Out of French Open 2nd round.
How did she manage to win that American Open.
Was it all fixed?
Never known a player to win something  like that and then get nowhere near to winning another tournament.

Actually laughing aside,I was talking to someone who stated that a few weeks ago.
A few top players didn't take part in US Open, and it was set up for her and the 18yo Canadian(who hasn't done anything else since either) to be in final.

Conspiracy  Theories.🤔..Contact Mel Gibson and Julie Roberts.

Of course it wasn't fixed,
She just had a purple patch that lasted a whole tournament, never to be repeated.

She had the unknown factor at the US Open which helped as not many of them knew her game. They do now, so it's got much harder for her. Also she's not done a full year on Tour yet and has only just played her first matches on clay, for example, so it's a learning curve.

Also she's had a lot of niggling injuries since the US Open. Expert opinion seems to be that her tennis skill is way ahead of her body's capacity at the moment and as she gets fitter - and she's apparently caning it in the gym at the moment - things should pick up again. Assuming the injuries clear up as she gets fitter, they reckon she'll be at the very top in a year's time. Let's hope so.

Stoneleigh Loyalist

The British love a winner and the expectations of her are great. We complain about footballers pay but the rush of sponsors to pour money in her direction has been quite obscene considering her experience.
We all thought that Laura Robson would be a champion but she faded into obscurity by way of the treatment room and let's hope that Miss Raducanu does not go the same way.

"She just had a purple patch that lasted a whole tournament, never to be repeated."

The first part is undoubtedly right, but the last way too pessimistic.

She obviously has a lot of talent. But since that win imo she has got caught up in the externals and she also clearly has a "dad knows best" father.

If she concentrated on her tennis, cut back on the nonsense that surrounds many young and successful sportsmen and women, and got herself a level-headed, experienced coach and didn't sack him or her after three months, we may yet see another British Wimbledon champion.

Sadly, too many similarities with promising young footballers, most of whom never fulfil their promise. I think maybe one has just left us for Liverpool. Who knows, in four years he may be well on his way to becoming a Liverpool legend. Or maybe glad to be on the bench at Birmingham City.

Carborundum

By remarkable good fortune, Mrs Carborundum and I had courtside seats for her third round win at Wimbledon last year.  Based on that showing, the answer to the question "How did she win the US Open?" is "By being bloody good"

Let youngsters be youngsters. Ryan Sessegnon was bloody good for us, broadened his experience without delivering such dazzling results, then guess what, he's bloody good again.  He turned 22 a week ago.  Emma Raducanu is 19 and this was her first French Open.

Very few tennis players go on to win a Grand Slam. The fact she has already done it means we cannot say she has not fulfilled her promise. If that is the peak of her achievements, it is still monumental.

WE love a winner, but we also love to knock people off their perch.
The media builds  people up, then knocks them down - it all sells papers.

Raducanu may have had a rush of sponsorships after being a darling of the media - after her  magnificent success, but the sponsors will soon   leave if she is unable to maintain her success.

Give her a chance - she's just started a pro career - which hopefully will be a long and successful one.

Laura Robson has very recently announced her retirement.  In the world top 50 at 19, she's finally called it a day at 28 after about 8 years plagued by injury.
The world is made up of electrons, protons, neurons, possibly muons and, definitely, morons.

Not talking about grand slams.
She been in run of the mill Tournaments since US,and was beaten in one by a girl ranked 65,000 and a half😆
Who had to borrow rackets to play her.

Hope she comes good though.

Radacanu will never win a French Open. Totally different game on clay. It is a one horse race . They might as well give Iga Swiatek the trophy now as she is completely different class to the rest.

Dont say that....I've backed Simona Halep at 16/1.

Oh Well,money down the drain.😒

Fulham1959

She has fierce determination and I think she will win more tournaments, but she needs time to gain experience and nous.

If you look at the US Open, things fell her way. A few top ranking players withdraw. There was also some 'gamesmanship'.

To be fair if I had to put up one danger it would be Simona Halep and 16/1 would have been a great each way bet if she was not in Swiateks quarter of the draw. Thats said Simon Halep at her best would be what ? 8/1 max ? so I like your bet even though paroxically think it wont land but genuingly hope I am wrong for the sake of your bet . Be a good quarter final to watch but I truly believe Swiatek is the womens Nadal and will win at least 5 French Opens.
