Nottingham Forest have reignited their interest in Burnley's Maxwel Cornet
Everton and Fulham are also eyeing up the Ivory Coast forward from the Clarets
Forest have decided not to pursue forward Emmanuel Dennis from Watford

Nottingham Forest have revived their bid to sign Maxwel Cornet from Burnley.

The Ivory Coast international has a £17.5million release clause but Everton and Fulham have been proposing loans or £5m up front with £20m next summer.

Despite Burnley's relegation, Cornet impressed at the club, scoring nine goals across the season.

Forest are pressing ahead with their offer but a deal for Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis now looks to be off.

Dennis scored ten goals for Watford during the season, but was unable to save them from relegation either.

The Nigerian international joined the Hornets last summer from Belgian side Bruges for a transfer fee of £3m.

Mark Hughes 'regrets leaving Fulham'

There's a wide-ranging interview with Mark Hughes in today's Daily Mail. 'Sparky,' now looking forward to a first full season in charge of Bradford City, became known as 'Mr Ambition' amongst the Fulham fanbase having walked out on the Whites in June 2011 search of the Chelsea or Aston Villa job after a single season at Craven Cottage. His side started slowly, before going on a fine run to finish eighth. He now admits that was an error:

"They signed a striker for £10million a week after I left,' he smiles."
    Daily Mail, 23 July 2022

Mark's command of facts might be as faulty as his decision-making. Bryan Ruiz, who nobody would realistically describe as a striker, did arrive for closer to £11m than the figure he quotes – but not until transfer deadline day at the end of August. Still, it's nice to hear a hint of contrition for a man who was so preoccupied with his status at Motspur Park that he demanded a bigger desk to work from.

Fulham open talks with Barcelona goalkeeper Neto

Newly-promoted Premier League club Fulham have opened talks with Barcelona goalkeeper Neto over a summer move.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Fulham have emerged as a likely destination for Barcelona goalkeeper Neto. The newly-promoted Premier League outfit have made the 33-year-old shot-stopper one of their priority signings as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The Brazilian goalkeeper joined Barcelona from Valencia in 2019 and has played second fiddle to Marc-Andre ter Stegen since then. With just a year remaining on his contract, Barcelona are eager to offload the 33-year-old this summer rather than risk losing him on a free next year.

Neto was reportedly offered to Napoli and has his heart set on a move to Serie A, but the Italian club are yet to make an official approach. The out-of-favour Barcelona goalkeeper recently turned down the opportunity to join Celta Vigo, leaving Fulham in a direct race with Napoli for the goalkeeper's signature.

With the Blaugrana eager to find a club for Neto soon in the hope of completing the move before they return from their pre-season tour of the USA, Napoli will need to make a decision soon if they wish to land the Barcelona shot-stopper.

The Serie A giants are said to be exploring other options as well, whereas Fulham have identified him as among their top targets. Therefore, the London club could have a free run at the shot-stopper if Napoli further delay their operations. Barcelona want to close the deal this week or the next.

Fulham have contacted the player's entourage in the hope of agreeing on personal terms, but he is still said to be waiting for an offer from Napoli. An exit for Neto, however, seems imminent, and Barcelona should also have no problem in getting the out-of-favour Brazilian goalkeeper off their roster.

The Catalan giants have already completed four signings in the ongoing summer transfer window. Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen have all joined Barcelona, while Ousmane Dembele has been re-signed on a fresh contract. They must now focus on offloading players, with Neto on top of the list.

With claims of Fulham wanting to sign player, club make stance on summer move clear

Fulham are in the market for a new goalkeeper and have been credited with an interest in Arsenal's Bernd Leno for the past few weeks.

The newly promoted Premier League side have not been able to agree a deal to sign the Gunners keeper.

This has forced Fulham to look at other options in the market and Sergio Rico is among the players identified as a target by the English club, according to reports.

Rico knows Fulham well from his loan spell at the London club during the 2018/19 season. Sevilla let him move on loan to Paris Saint-Germain the following campaign, and his stay at PSG was made permanent in 2020.

AS have relayed claims made in England about Marco Silva's side wanting the Spaniard on a loan deal, and they also give an update on his future in Paris.

It's claimed PSG will not allow the former Sevilla man to leave this summer despite receiving several offers for him. Christophe Galtier currently has Rico, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Keylor Navas as the three keepers at his disposal.

It's expected the Costa Rican will leave PSG in the current window, and the former two will compete against each other for the No.1 spot at Parc des Princes. That should rule out Fulham's chances of bringing Rico back to the club this summer.

Sources: Stoke City open talks to sign Alfie Mawson after Fulham exit

Stoke City are in talks to sign defender Alfie Mawson, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old is a free agent after leaving Fulham earlier this summer when his contract expired.

Stoke boss Michael O'Neill is keen to bring in another centre-back before the close of the transfer window after losing out to Rangers for Ben Davies.

O'Neill held talks with Mawson this week and the former Swansea defender fits the bill for what the Stoke boss wants to add to his squad.

He joined Fulham in 2018 for a reported initial fee of £15million but made just 52 appearances for the Cottagers.

Mawson made just eight appearances for the Londoners last season as they earned promotion to the Premier League as champions.

The serial loanee has played across all four English divisions in a career spanning 266 games – and even earned a call-up to the England senior squad in March 2018.

He had a temporary spell at Bristol City during the 2020-21 season but made just 14 appearances after suffering two long-term knee injuries.

Stoke City have already completed the signing of one experienced Championship star this week – with Dwight Gayle joining the club from Newcastle on a two-year deal.

The Potters have already bolstered their centre-back ranks with the signings of Aden Flint and Harry Clarke this summer.

O'Neil's side will be targeting a top-half berth in the 2022-23 campaign after a disappointing 14th-place finish last season.

Fulham 'negotiating' move for La Liga man as hunt to bolster key position takes fresh twist

The latest Fulham news emerges on Saturday.

Fulham are being linked with a new name as they hunt for a goalkeeping addition.

The Cottagers are reportedly trying to sign Barcelona stopper Neto.

He has been on the books of the Spanish giants since 2019 but could now be poised for a departure this summer.

According to SPORT, Fulham are 'negotiating' with his representatives about a potential switch to the Premier League.

Who is Neto?

Neto joined Barcelona three years ago but has mainly been used as a back-up during his time at the Camp Nou.

He has made 21 appearances in all competitions, with 12 coming in La Liga.

The once-capped Brazil international started his career at Athletico Paranaense in his native country before moving over to Europe as a youngster.

He has since played for Fiorentina, Juventus and Valencia and a new chapter in his career in England isn't beyond the realms of possibility now.

It is no secret that Fulham are after another 'keeper to compete with Marek Rodak and Paulo Gazzaniga for their number one spot and Neto could fit the bill for Marco Silva's side.

Fulham edging closer to new signing as latest update emerges

The latest Fulham news this weekend.

Fulham are edging closer to the signing of defender Kevin Mbabu from Wolfsburg.

The former Newcastle United full-back is heading back to the Premier League.

He is having the 'second part' of his medical in Portugal today and will return to England with his new teammates on Monday, as reported by Sky Sports (live transfer blog, 23.07.22, 13.00).

What will Mbabu bring to Fulham?

Mbabu will provide Fulham with more competition and depth in their defensive department.

There is no doubt that Marco Silva needs a few more signings through the door over the next couple of weeks to ensure his squad can be competitive next term in the top flight.

The Switzerland international has been a key player for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga since joining them in 2019 from Young Boys, making 82 appearances in all competitions.

Mbabu was on the books at Newcastle from 2013 to 2017 but only played five times for their first-team.

He will compete with Kenny Tete at right-back in the next campaign, assuming the deal gets over the line.

Muniz set for Middlesbrough loan

Fulham are set to loan their Brazilian forward Rodrigo Muniz to Middlesbrough, according to a Sun report tonight, but only after they have completed a deal to sign a replacement striker.

The 21 year-old striker is poised to move to the Riverside Stadium a year after picking Craven Cottage over Middlesbrough when he finalised a switch to England on a permanent basis from Flamengo. Muniz, who was persuaded by the prospect of working under Marco Silva, scored five goals in fifteen appearances last year for the Whites, where he was back up to first choice forward Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Fulham are now keen for the raw Brazilian to get regular first-team football in order to aid his development and Boro boss Chris Wilder has identified Muniz as the ideal candidate to supplement his striking options in the Championship next season. Crucially, Wilder is prepared to wait – possibly beyond Middlesbrough's first league fixture at home to fellow promotion favourites West Brom on Saturday evening – for Fulham to add another forward of their own before sealing the switch.

Silva and Fulham's recruitment team are casting a wide net in the search for another striker, with teenage forward Jay Stansfield – who has impressed the head coach this summer – the only other deputy to Mitrovic, who scored a remarkable 43 goals in 44 league appearances last term, at present.

Update emerges in Fulham forward's situation amidst Middlesbrough interest

Fulham will allow striker Rodrigo Muniz to depart on loan this summer once they have welcomed another forward into the club, as per a report from The Sun.

The 21-year-old is currently being watched by Chris Wilder at Middlesbrough, with the Boro boss keen to add two new forwards to his side ahead of the new season.

The 2022/23 Championship campaign begins next weekend, and whilst the Teessiders are still actively looking to bolster options, they have enjoyed a productive month or so with their preparations.

Fulham are still away in Portugal as they continue their pre-season, with Marco Silva's side a week behind the EFL in their preparations given that the Premier League season kicks off a week later.

Muniz featured 25 times in the league for the Cottagers last time out, however, that only equates to 488 minutes of Championship action, netting five goals in the process.

The verdict

A player that probably needs to play regular second-tier football before he can expect frequent game time with Fulham, a move to Middlesbrough would be an excellent next step.

Boro's seeming need for a forward means that if Muniz was to arrive at the Riverside Stadium this summer, then he would have an excellent shot of playing lots of minutes.

A powerful, athletic forward, the 21-year-old has also shown glimpses of his attacking intelligence and ability to score goals early on in his career in England.

Muniz has every chance of succeeding with Fulham in the Premier League but he just needs a productive loan spell to help bridge the gap from where he currently is at to England's top-flight.
