Games at Wolves

Whatever your views on the relevance of past league records, our league record at Wolves is pretty poor. Since our 4-2 win there in April 1985, we have gone 13 away games against Wolves without a win.

Our overall away record in the league makes dismal reading: P42 W5 D12 L25 GF42 GA84, so scoring an average of one goal per game but conceding an average of two goals per game. Top flight games at Wolves don't make for better reading either: P16 W2 D5 L9 GF17 GA34. And those top flight games include our heaviest ever league defeat, home or away (0-9 in September 1959).

Time for a good away win!

Under Slav we were 0-3 but ended up grabbing an late equaliser in a 4-4!  :003: Er don't mention 1959.... :022: :016:

I came across the highlights of the 4-4 draw on Youtube, and it was actually 1-3 that we got to (Wolves scored the first goal), we were never 3 goals ahead. Considering we went from 1-3 to 4-3, 4-4 was a decent save. A couple of great goals from SJ and Cairney.

That shut me up! I was sure it was 0-3. It's an age thing.   :022:

It's quite poor. But we hadn't won at Goodison since the 16th century and won there last time we were in the PL so there's a chance.

I get the feeling we'll see in the first 5 mins whether we are on the front foot like we were against Liverpool. Hopefully that will be the case.

I was at that mid week game. We had beaten them 3-1, a week earlier. It was our first season back in the first division and I believe we finished 10th

What the 9-0? I was in December '67 when we lost 3-2 but played them off the park. Bobby Moss scored one of his three goals for the club that long gone day.

I remember both 3-1 and 0-9. Wolves were one of the top teams then let's hope today is a 3-1 type.

We played Wolves at the Cottage in 1950 and it was our first ever match in the topflight. From memory our team that day was

                                                                              Doug Flack
                                Harry Freeman                                                        Joe Bacuzzi
Len Quested                   Jim Taylor                Pat Beasly
                                                           Bob Thomas               Beddy Jezzard
Arthur Stevens                Arthur Rowley                    Jack Mcdonald

Man for man I would prefer most of those players in our team today, the midfield was very strong.

Funny how easily I can recall that team but when I got to the Co-op this morning I couldn't remember whether or not I had buttoned my flies.

I think our last win there was the last game in 1961/62. 2-4 Mo Cook3 and Brian O'Connell. 60 years, em.

Yes...I was there that night, unfortunately. We lived in Birmingham and luckily saw us win 4-2 at both Birmingham City and West Brom., in 1959-60.
Incidentally, the following season we won 4-2 at Wolves and West Brom (again).

Did you seriously recall that line-up from memory without looking it up? If so ... 👏
