Report: Nottingham Forest could suffer hammer blow as Premier League set to make huge call

Nottingham Forest could see their game against Fulham postponed on Friday night, with the Premier League set to make another huge call.

The Reds are due to face the Cottagers at the City Ground on Friday night as they bid to get back to winning ways.

But, The Queen's death has left the world reeling and plans are in place for the state funeral which happens one week today.

As a result, policing resources will remain tight and that could see the Premier League suspended for another week.

If that is the case, top-flight football won't return until October, with Forest set to face Leicester on the third day of the month.

Following the Fulham match, some players were due to head out on international duty and those games should still go ahead.

Forest were beaten 3-2 by Bournemouth the last time out, with the Cherries stunning the Reds to come from two goals behind.

Now, the Reds might have to stew for a few more weeks on the back of that result with another week of fixtures in jeopardy.

Forest will hope that they get the go-ahead to play on Friday but right now, according to The Times, it looks unlikely.

Forest could see Fulham game postponed
This would be a shame but completely understandable given the circumstances.

The Queen's funeral should take precedence, although it is a shame that football won't get their chance to pay their respects to the icon.

The vast majority of football fans would love to be in stadiums signing the national anthem and observing a moment of silence for The Queen.

Ultimately, this latest report suggests that another weekend of the Premier League could be postponed as the country mourns.

Forest will have a few weeks to work on things in training if that is to be the case and hopefully that can help the Reds return to winning ways.

Willian tore up Corinthians contract after calling police over 'threats to daughters'

Fulham signed former Chelsea star Willian on a free transfer after his spell at Brazilian outfit Corinthians came to an early end lasting just one year like his time at Arsenal

(Image: SIPA USA/PA Images)

Fulham summer signing Willian has revealed that part of his reason to end his Corinthians dream return was down to abuse that was suffered by his daughters.

The Brazilian made the move back to the Neo Quimica Arena - where he began his career as a 10-year-old. After leaving in 2007 for Shakhtar, his grand return in 2021 was heralded as a major coup - 14 years after his departure.

But it became quickly evident that neither party were happy with each other with fans getting on the winger's back for what was perceived as a number of poor performances. After one year, Willian had managed just one goal in 35 outings.

Eventually, the irritation turned into fury and the 34-year-old - who has two young daughters - started receiving some horrific online abuse. It even led to the police being called after threats being made to his family.

"I left because of the threats to me and my family," he told Globo. "The threats never stopped. Whenever Corinthians lost, and if I hadn't played well, my family would receive threats and insults online.

"My wife, my daughters... after a while they even started to attack my dad and my sister. When I came back to Brazil, I knew there would be pressure and that I would be criticised.

Willian has joined Fulham this summer

"But I didn't come back to Brazil to be threatened. I know it's a minority but it has a really big impact. It leaves a mental scar, particularly on my daughters."

In August, Willian ripped up his contract - much like he did after just one year at Arsenal - and moved back to London where he began training with Fulham.

After two weeks, the Cottagers snapped him up on a free transfer where the winger will play in the Premier League for his third London club after Chelsea and the Gunners.

Corwen FC unveil new Harry Wilson-inspired shirt

Corwen FC's fancy new shirt in tribute to (inset) Harry Wilson.

CORWEN Football Club has unveiled a brand new football shirt in tribute to one of the town's finest players who has gone on to star for Wales.

Born in Wrexham, Harry Wilson went on to attend Ysgol Dinas Bran school in Llangollen and was brought up in the Denbighshire town of Corwen.

From a young age, his footballing talents were clear to see and the family made national headlines when he made his international debut for Wales aged just 16 years and 207 days old v Belgium in October 2013.

That is because his grandfather, Peter Edwards, netted £125,000 as a result of having placed a bet of £50 with bookies William Hill on Harry to someday go on and play for Wales when he was just 18-months old.

Now, his local football team - who he still regularly pays visits to - has released a football shirt in his honour.

The white and blue Macron shirt features a graphic of 25-year-old Wilson on the back, as well as his initials.

Sponsored by the Blue Lion, it also features the words 'Born To Play For Wales' next to the Wilson picture.

It will be worn as an away shirt for the 22/23 season in the Ardal North East League in which Corwen play.

PICS by Ian Evans show the new kit in tribute to Harry Wilson.
Corwen FC's Ian Evans said: "Corwen FC are proud to release the Harry Wilson collaboration away kit for season 22/23.

"This really is a stunning bespoke kit and one we are all really proud of.

"We are taking orders now for this stunner and it's on sale for £40 for all adult, sizes, kids sizes also available on request."

To order yours, contact Ian on 07794438680 or [email protected].

Dubbed the 'King of Corwen', Wilson has so far earned 39 caps for Wales, scoring five goals.

The winger has also starred in the Premier League with Bournemouth and is now currently playing for top-flight side Fulham.

Down the years, he has also had impressive spells with Cardiff City, Derby County and Hull City at EFL Championship level having started out at Liverpool FC.

Now a regular in the Wales national team set up, he is expected to be part of the team which will travel to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in November.

Neymar, Haaland, Messi, Mbappe: 12 most in-form footballers ranked

Who are the most in-form players in the world right now?

We've seen some big starts to the season across Europe from many of the game's biggest stars.

Erling Haaland is currently on course to smash every Premier League goal record under the sun in his debut Manchester City campaign.

Whereas Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have been lighting up the French top-flight as part of Paris Saint-Germain's scintillating attacking arsenal.

But they represent just a handful of the best examples when it comes to players that have been doing the business in the early stages of this campaign.

So, with that in mind, we've ranked the 12 most in-form players in the world right now.

(All match rating data used was collected from WhoScored).

12. Ivan Toney
The Brentford man has kicked-off the new Premier League season in style and after scoring a hat-trick against Leeds the other weekend, has now recorded five goals and two assists from his opening six games.

His average WhoScored match rating of 7.76 isn't too shabby, either.

11. Gabriel Jesus
The Arsenal star has wasted no time in getting amongst it under Mikel Arteta and has been the form player for the Gunners so far this season.

Three goals and three assists mark an impressive return from the Brazilian, but he's contributed so much more than that through his intelligence and dogged work rate on the pitch.

What a signing for the London club.

10. Jamal Musiala
The 19-year-old Bayern Munich sensation enjoyed an exceptional breakout season in 2021/22 and it looks as though he'll be continuing on the same upward trajectory based on his performances so far.

Six goals and two assists in all competitions for the German makes him one of Bayern's most in-form stars – and certainly there most potent, even after the addition of Sadio Mane.

9. Vinicius Jr
Vinicius has formed quite the partnership with teammate Karim Benzema in recent times – and although the Frenchman narrowly misses out on this list, the duo have both started the new season in epic fashion.

The 22-year-old Brazilian scored 17 La Liga goals last term and enjoyed his best campaign to date, but he's already rocketed in four this time around and looks set to take his goalscoring to a whole new level in perfect time for the upcoming World Cup.

8. Aleksandar Mitrovic
Who said the big Serbian couldn't do it in the Premier League? Anyone that did is now being served up a rather enormous portion of humble pie because Mitrovic is proving the real deal.

He single-handedly tore Liverpool down on the opening day of the season, scoring two in the process. Whilst he's also notched another four times across his remaining four appearances.

It's Mitrovic's world, we're simply living it.

7. Florian Sotoca
From one big forward to another then and this time we're heading RC Lens' very own Sotoca.

The relatively unknown Frenchman has racked up a rather impressive five goals and three assists from his opening seven appearances.

6. Joshua Kimmich
Ah, what a talent. Kimmich has been in fine form so far in 2022/23, statistically proving Bayern's best player with his average match rating of 8.05.

Two goals and two assists outline his creative potential despite the more reserved role he often plays, however, we all know Kimmich is brilliant in every department by this point.

5. Kylian Mbappe
The first prong in PSG's lethal attacking trident, it's purely a testament to how well some other stars are performing right now that Mbappe can manage just fifth on this list.

The Frenchman has averaged more than a goal-per-game for the Parisians so far after scoring seven across his first six matches.

4. Robert Lewandowski
The Polish hitman barely even broke stride as he effortlessly transitioned to life in Barcelona.

It doesn't seem to matter where he goes, goals will duly follow.

Six in a mere four matches for Lewandowski so far, not to mention a further two assists.

3. Erling Haaland
Third?! Yep, Haaland might have scored 10 times already in the division that was supposedly going to be a real wake up call for him, but the form of the top two is simply too strong.

But back to Haaland, is it possible that this seemingly unstoppable force could summit the 40-goal mark in a Premier League season?

It's a crazy prospect to consider but, if he stays injury free, you wouldn't put it past him.

2. Lionel Messi
Messi might have come under fire at stages last year, and there can be no denying that he was finding it difficult to adapt to life in France.

Those critics are now being answered, though, and in truly epic fashion with the iconic Argentine having racked up three goals and a brilliant seven assists from the opening portion of this season.

1. Neymar Jr
Do you know where most of Messi's assists went? Well, that would be to this man.

Neymar heard the World Cup was on this year and has decided to turn on the style as he bids to lead his country to glory – eight goals and six assists across his first seven league matches is an absolutely outrageous return.

If he keeps that kind of form up, don't be too surprised if you see him lifting the Ballon d'Or over his head come October 2023.

Barnsley FC complete signing of French junior international Ziyad Larkeche from Fulham after getting green light from EFL
BARNSLEY have confirmed the signing of left-sided defender Ziyad Larkeche on loan from Premier League side Fulham after receiving confirmation from the English Football League.

The Reds agreed a deal with the Premier League club right at the end of business on transfer deadline day on September 1, but faced a race against time to get the move approved with the authorities.

It had been thought that all the relevant paperwork did not go through in time, with Barnsley resigned to the move not getting the green light.

But the governing body informed the club late last week that all the relevant documentation was in order and the 19-year-old, a junior international in France, has completed his move to South Yorkshire.

Larkeche featured 22 times for the Cottagers in Premier League 2 last term, scoring two goals and providing six assists.

The teenager started his career with Paris Saint-Germain and became the youngest player in the club's hustory to play in the UEFA Youth League.

He will stay with Barnsley for the rest of the season.

Reds CEO Khaled El-Ahmad said: "We are pleased to get the deal for Ziyad over the line.

"He is a player with great potential and we welcome him to Oakwell."

Larkeche added: "I'm really happy to he here. It's a great club, a great history, so I'm really happy and excited to start."

The Reds also brought in Stoke City defender Tom Edwards and Burnley midfielder Adam Phillips at the end of the summer window.

Corwen launch Harry Wilson inspired away kit
Corwen Football Club have launched a new shirt that pays homage to Fulham winger Harry Wilson, who started his career with the Denbighshire club.

Wilson was brought up in the town and his outstanding young talent saw him snapped up by Liverpool's academy as a youngster. Wilson's international debut at the age of sixteen in 2007 sparked national headlines after his grandad Peter Edwards scooped a staggering £125,000 having put £50 on Harry to play international football at his local William Hill bookmakers when the little was just eighteen months old.

Corwen's new away shirt features a graphic of Wilson on the back as well as his initials and the inscription 'Born to Play for Wales'. Wilson, who has yet to play for Fulham this term after suffering a knee injury in a behind-closed-doors friendly, was inspirational for club and country last season helping Marco Silva's side storm to the Championship title and inspiring Wales to qualify for this winter's World Cup.

Wilson, whose Corwen heritage is the subject of a popular song amongst the Welsh fans, has scored five goals in 39 caps for the senior side and is expected to be a key member of Rob Page's side, who face England in the group stages of the tournament later this year.

Corwen FC's Ian Evans said:

"Corwen FC are proud to release the Harry Wilson collaboration away kit for season 22/23. This really is a stunning bespoke kit and one we are all really proud of. We are taking orders now for this stunner and it's on sale for £40 for all adult, sizes, kids sizes also available on request."

Fulham's trip to Nottingham Forest on Friday IS set to go ahead following Premier League meeting... with police and stewards not raising objections to match between promoted sides taking place ahead of Queen's funeral

Last weekend;'s fixtures were postponed following death of Queen Elizabeth II
Premier League held a meeting on Monday afternoon to discuss their next steps
Nottingham Forest are due to face Fulham on Friday at the City Ground at 8pm
The Premier League wish for the game to proceed and a statement is expected

Nottingham Forest's Premier League fixture with Fulham on Friday is set to go ahead.

The Premier League held a meeting on Monday afternoon to discuss their next steps over scheduling games after last weekend's fixtures were postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Forest are due to face Fulham on Friday at the City Ground with an 8pm kick off and police have not raised any objections to the game going ahead while stewards have also cleared the way.

The Premier League also wish for the game to proceed and a statement is expected over the coming hours.

Only East Midlands rivals Leicester City sit below Forest in the table, with defeat against Bournemouth resulting a fourth loss of the campaign for Steve Cooper's men following their promotion to the top flight.

Last season's Championship winners Fulham meanwhile sit in the top half having won two games and drawn the same amount, but were beaten last time out at Tottenham.

And while their Premier League fixture looks set to take place, a number of games in London and elsewhere across the country over the weekend are at risk with police forces stretched with the Queen's funeral set to be held on Monday.

Nottingham Forest's Premier League fixture with Fulham on Friday is set to go ahead

Forest are due to face Fulham on Friday at the City Ground with an 8pm kick off

Police officers from forces across the country will be drafted in to support the Metropolitan Police with hundreds of thousands of people set to descend on London for the historic events.

Other Premier League games set to be staged in the city over the weekend include Chelsea vs Liverpool and Brentford vs Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, plus Tottenham vs Leicester City on Saturday evening.

The other high-risk Premier League game is between Manchester United and Leeds United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Arsenal have also seen their Europa League tie against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven postponed due to 'insufficient police personnel',  but Chelsea's Champions League fixture against Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday will be played.

Police officers are set to be drafted in from across the country for the Queen's funeral

The Queen's funeral, set for Monday, could lead to the postponement of more football games

The EFL also announced its full programme of games set for Tuesday and Wednesday this week will go ahead as planned.

But there will be serious Premier League concerns over when any postponed games can be rescheduled for amid an already packed calendar because of November's World Cup in Qatar.

All six group matches in the three European competitions are being squeezed into two months ahead of the start of the tournament.

There are no free midweek or weekend slots to rearrange the games already postponed  for the rest of the year.

It came after Sportsmail revealed that another complicating factor is a lack of TV broadcast trucks at the disposal of Sky Sports because of the blanket coverage of the Queen's death on Sky News.

WHICH FOOTBALL FIXTURES COULD BE AFFECTED THIS WEEK?
Football on a wide scale is set to recommence on Tuesday following the postponement of last weekend's fixtures, but policing concerns mean games will be assessed on a match-by-match basis.

The strain on police resources is the biggest obstacle to Premier League games taking place as planned next weekend, as up to 10,000 police officers will be deployed in London to manage what has been described as an unprecedented security operation in the capital ahead of the Queen's funeral.

Here is how things stand at the moment and which fixtures are most likely to be affected:

Tuesday

Liverpool are due to host Ajax in the Champions League. As it stands, this game is still on.

In the same group, Rangers' tie with Napoli has been put back a day to Wednesday. This was due to 'severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues'. Away fans have also been banned.

The EFL announced on Monday that their fixture programme will return as scheduled from Tuesday.

Wednesday

Chelsea's clash with Red Bull Salzburg is to go ahead as planned.

Manchester City are also in Champions League action - against Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad.

Celtic are playing Shakhtar Donetsk, but this game is away from home so is unlikely to be affected.

The EFL announced on Monday that their fixture programme will return as scheduled from Tuesday.

Thursday

Arsenal's Europa League clash with PSV Eindhoven has been postponed

Manchester United have confirmed on their official website that their trip to FC Sheriff will go ahead as planned.

West Ham are due to play Swedish side Silkeborg away, Hearts will travel to RFS and Shamrock Rovers go to Gent in the Europa Conference League. There appears to be no reason why these games won't go ahead.

Friday

The Premier League is due to resume on Friday night, when Aston Villa host Southampton and Fulham travel to Nottingham Forest.

Villa vs Southampton is due to be broadcast on Sky Sports but, as Sportsmail reported on Monday morning, the broadcaster is running out of the outside broadcast trucks required to deliver live coverage as many are being used by their sister channel, Sky News.

Women's Super League, National League and grassroots games should be able to take place as planned.

Saturday

In London, Tottenham take on Leicester on Saturday evening but this again depends on policing levels and the availability of Sky's TV trucks.

Wolves are due to host Manchester City at 12:30pm and Newcastle welcome Bournemouth in the only 3pm game.

Brighton vs Crystal Palace was already postponed because of the scheduled train strike, which has now been cancelled. However there is no indication that the match will take place.

The EFL announced on Monday that their fixture programme will return as scheduled from Tuesday.

Women's Super League, National League and grassroots games should be able to take place as planned.

Scottish football leagues will also resume with the caveat that any fixtures under the professional banner be rescheduled if they fall on Monday September 19, the day of the Queen's funeral.

Sunday

Brentford play Arsenal and Chelsea are at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

With both matches in London, this again depends on policing levels in the capital just a day before the Queen's funeral. It also again depends on the availability of Sky's TV trucks.

Sportsmail understands that the football's authorities are struggling to get a green light for Chelsea vs Liverpool.

There are also major doubts over whether Leeds' trip to Manchester United will take place next Sunday as a large police presence will be required at Old Trafford.

Everton are also scheduled to host West Ham at Goodison Park.

Women's Super League, National League and grassroots games should be able to take place as planned.

Scottish football leagues will also resume with the caveat that any fixtures under the professional banner be rescheduled if they fall on Monday September 19, the day of the Queen's funeral.

Knockaert on verge of Volos loan
Fulham winger Anthony Knockaert is on his way to Greece today to complete a loan move to Volos.

The 30 year-old former Brighton and Leicester wide man has not featured for the Whites this season having been deemed surplus to requirements by Marco Silva. Knockaert, a £15m signing after an underwhelming loan spell from the Seagulls, made just seven appearances last term and has been training by himself at Motspur Park – even after Fulham's plans were disrupted by serious injuries to Harry Wilson and Manor Solomon.

Knockaert is expected to finalise his season-long loan switch to the Panthessaliko Stadium within the next 24 hours.

Everton FC v  West Ham United FC, kick off 14:15 (Sky Sports)

Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.

The Premier League would like to thank the UK Football Policing Unit and other police forces across the country, as well as our broadcast partners, for their support during this process, and will continue to liaise with them ahead of the weekend.

For the matches being played during the period of National Mourning, tributes will be paid to The Queen at Premier League stadiums.

New dates for the postponed matches will be announced in due course.

Larkeche loaned to Barnsley
Fulham's promising French left back Ziyad Larkeche has signed for League One Barnsley on loan until the end of the season.

The 19 year-old attacking full back will be hoping to boost the Reds' hopes of figuring in the promotion shake up, with the Oakwell outfit currently sitting in tenth place following a tough start to the season. Larkeche, a key component of Fulham's PL2 Division 2 winning under 23 team last term, missed Fulham's first few under 21 fixtures through injury and will now be targeting a senior debut.

Larkeche, the youngest player in Paris Saint Germain history to feature in the UEFA Youth League, created five goals and scored two more at under-23 level last term and the confident Frenchman will relishing his chance to make a mark in the EFL.

Leeds: Dean Jones says Whites want rid of Dan James

Leeds United have loaned out Dan James because they want to 'get him out' of the club, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The lowdown
The Whites paid £25m to sign James from Manchester United during the 2021 summer transfer window.

He is the third-most expensive signing in their history, trailing only Brenden Aaronson and Rodrigo. However, only a year after his arrival at Elland Road, Leeds opted to send him on loan to Fulham for the 2022/23 season.

The Athletic's Phil Hay said that he has received no indication that the loan agreement includes an obligation to buy.

The latest
Jones told GiveMeSport that Leeds have little interest in whether or not James improves at Craven Cottage, and that the loan is a prelude to a permanent sale.

The transfer insider said: "This isn't looking for him to improve. This is looking to get him out of the squad, so I think Dan James and Leeds, that story seems to be over now."

The verdict
Leeds may feel that, up to this point, the return on their investment has been underwhelming. James has played 40 matches for the club in all competitions but only managed to score four goals, whilst also providing just five assists.

Former Whites defender Ian Harte has been critical of the Welshman, arguing that 'he doesn't have the knowledge or the know-how'; while sports journalist Tom Dutton has gone further still, deriding the 24-year-old as a 'pace merchant' with a 'poor final ball' and 'awful decision-making'.

That tallies with data from FBRef showing that James ranks in just the fifth percentile for pass completion among positional peers in Europe's top five leagues over the last 12 months.

Last season, he was thought to be the third-highest earner at the club on a salary of £50,000 per week, so maybe Leeds want those wages off the books too.

Jesse Marsch has already explained that selling James could also free up space and funds for the Whites to add another attacker to their squad, so Jones could well be right in hinting that the Welshman might already have played his last match in a Leeds shirt.

Bowie wins Scottish U21 call up
Fulham forward Kieron Bowie has been rewarded for his fine form on loan at Northampton with a call-up to the Scottish under-21 squad.

The nineteen year-old, who has made a real impression since breaking into the Cobblers' starting line-up, will miss Northampton's meeting with Stockport County at Sixfields on September 24 – and could also be absent for a Football League Trophy clash against Cambridge United on Saturday 20 September.

The former Raith Rovers forward will hope to make the most of his first call-up to Scott Gemmill's squad. The Scots will face Northern Ireland in their opening European Championship qualifier at the Danny Blanchflower before a return fixture in Paisley is played on September 25.

Silva up for manager of the month
Marco Silva has been rewarded for Fulham's fine start to the new season with a nomination for the Premier League's manager of the month award.
