"Of course, it's nice" – Player on Everton and Fulham's interest, 'absolutely aiming' for PL move

Coventry City's Viktor Gyökeres scored 17 goals and registered five assists in the league last season and his fine displays reportedly drew interest from Everton and Fulham in the summer.

Claims coming out of Sweden in August had dismissed the suggestion of the Toffees' interest in the striker, while there was no mention of Marco Silva's side.

The 24-year-old stayed at Coventry in the last window and has started the season with two goals from seven matches.

The player's form has seen him receive a call up from Janne Andersson for the ongoing international break. This gave Fotbollskanalen an opportunity to interview the attacker and ask him about reports linking him to Everton and Fulham.

"Of course, it's nice to have interest. But now it didn't happen and I'm still at Coventry," he said.

When asked whether it was the Championship side who 'put a stop' to his exit in the summer, Gyökeres said: "Well, I don't know... there were a few different factors."

The Swede arrived in England for the first time when Brighton & Hove Albion signed him from IF Brommapojkarna in 2018.

Gyökeres didn't make an appearance for the Seagulls and made a permanent switch to Coventry in the summer of 2021. The player has admitted he remains keen to return to the Premier League.

"Yes, absolutely. I've been in England for a long time and that would be nice. But I'm also open to other leagues. I've been to Brighton before, so obviously you're aiming for the Premier League," Gyökeres explained.

Player in 'bizarre' situation – Has been holding Wolves and Fulham off ahead of imminent transfer

Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham and other clubs have tried to sign Jason Denayer in the summer and even outside the transfer window.

The defender is currently without a club since leaving Lyon as a free agent.

Fulham wanted him in the last window, while Wolves have made contact to take him to Molineux this month.

On September 13th, Het Nieuwsblad reported the defender is in contact with Bruno Lage's side, but a move remains difficult due to his attitude towards a new club.

The Belgium international's failure to find a new club so far has left the media, at least in his own country, puzzled. De Morgen take a look at his 'bizarre' situation and why he's refused a few clubs so far.

It's claimed the centre-back's stubbornness drove him away from Lyon. The same issue has stopped him finding a new club.

Denayer didn't entertain multiple sides because he was waiting for a top club, which will give him opportunities to win trophies. That never happened and the more offers he ignores, the fewer options he is now left with.

The newspaper states: 'Denayer's reputation has also taken a dent in the meantime. It's like a fresh load of fish at the Friday market. You get the highest amount for it in the morning. But too long in the sun and it starts to smell. Bad for demand and price.'

His current situation has not stopped Roberto Martínez from including the 27-year-old in the Belgium squad for September's international's break.

Both the player and Martínez are represented by the same agency. This led to suggestions the former Everton boss is helping Denayer find a new club, but it has been dismissed by the agency, the Belgian football association, and the defender himself.

Either way, Denayer needs to play, and it won't be long before he finds a new club. With claims of Wolves, Fulham and others showing interest, it needs to be seen where the Belgian will end up.

Fifer Kieron Bowie proves to be star man after scoring on first start for Scotland under-21s
Former Raith Rovers forward Kieron Bowie marked his first start for Scotland's under-21 side with a goal last night, September 22.

The Kirkcaldy-born 20-year-old, picking up his second age-grade cap, opened the scoring for gaffer Scot Gemmill's team in the first instalment of a friendly double-header against Northern Ireland at Belfast's Blanchflower Stadium with 35 minutes on the clock.

Bowie proved to be a star man as he got his head to a Connor Smith free-kick to direct the ball past home goalkeeper Dermott Mee.

The Scots' other goals were scored by Ben Doak two minutes later, after being put through by Michael Craig, and Josh Mulligan on 57 minutes, firing in the rebound after a Tommy Conway shot hit the woodwork.

Chris McKee got one back for the hosts on 73 minutes but that concluded the evening's scoring.

Gemmill's side continue their preparations for next year's European championship qualifying campaign with another friendly against the Northern Irish on Sunday at Paisley's St Mirren Park, also known as the SMiSA Stadium, with kick-off at 2pm.

Tickets cost £8 for adults and £3 for concessions. For details, go to https://www.stmirren.com/

Bowie, previously at Glenrothes Strollers and with the old Fife Elite Football Academy, joined Raith, the team he supports, at the age of 16 in 2019, making four appearances towards the end of the 2018-19 season and 35 in all competitions the following campaign, scoring ten goals ast the Fifers secured the League 1 title and promotion to the Scottish Championship.

He moved south of the border to English Premier League side Fulham in July 2020, going out on a season-long loan to English Football League 2 outfit Northampton Town in July this year.

The former Kirkcaldy High School pupul made his debut for Scotland's under-21s in June last year in Dumbarton, also against Northern Ireland.

Fitzdares partners with Fulham FC
Fulham FC has named bookmaker Fitzdares as the club's official betting partner.

Under the terms of the agreement, the new partners intend to launch a messaging campaign that "will bring a sense of fun into the game."

Fitzdares allows players to place bets in numerous ways, including online, through text and by phone. It also operates a private club in Mayfair, where members can watch live sport.

"This partnership has its roots in the 19th century and we are bursting with excitement to finally join up with London's original football club, said Fitzdares CEO William Woodhams.

"Dare I say, the only place better to watch football than The Fitzdares Club is at the Cottage. We will be adding a Craven Cottage Pie to our menu immediately to bring a taste of West London royalty to Mayfair."

Fulham sales director Jon Don-Carolis added: "We are delighted to welcome Fitzdares as Fulham FC's Official UK Betting Partner."

"Our organisations are proud of our heritage and embrace innovation whilst providing a closer and more personal experience for our fans and audiences."

"An aligned partnership between the world's oldest bookmakers and London's original football club is poised to deliver a range of exciting and creative initiatives throughout the season."

This is the latest betting operator partnership that Fulham has announced. In July, Fulham agreed to a sponsorship deal with Asian-facing operator W88.

Fitzdares, which is the world's oldest bookmaker, joined the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) in August.

"As a medium-sized independent and boutique business, we wanted our voice heard," said Woodhams at the time. "The BGC gives us the opportunity to be at the table where the key decisions are being made in UK gaming."

Allan Saint-Maximin back in Newcastle United kit with encouraging injury update ahead of Fulham
Allan Saint-Maximin is back in light training away from Newcastle United as he steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The 25-year-old winger has missed Newcastle's last three Premier League matches since he netted his goal of the month winning equaliser against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

He remains a doubt for The Magpies' next match away to Fulham on October 1 but continues to work hard during the international break.

Saint-Maximin has been spending time in Monaco, working with physiotherapist Alexandre Baccili. And the Frenchman has posted some encouraging videos of himself back on the grass (or rather 3G pitch) taking part in light running and shooting drills all while sporting his full Newcastle United white and green away kit.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe expects Saint-Maximin to be back available for selection soon but revealed the player did suffer a slight setback last week.

"He's had a very minor setback with the physios," Howe said following the 1-1 draw with AFC Bournemouth last time out.

"So, whether or not after the international break, he'll be fit, is slightly unclear, but it's certainly not long-term. But not clear if he'll be fit for our next game [against Fulham on October 1] yet."

Saint-Maximin went on to reassure supporters with an Instagram post following Howe's comments which read: "Back soon."

In spite of the encouraging Instagram updates, the most likely return date for Saint-Maximin is Newcastle's home match against Brentford at St James's Park on Saturday, October 8 (3pm kick-off).

Fulham man makes full recovery from injury in boost to loan club

The full-back will be looking to get plenty of game time under his belt now

Fulham's Steven Sessegnon has recovered from injury.

He is now back available for his loan club Charlton Athletic.

The right-back joined the fellow London club on a season-long loan over the summer but has been out with a hamstring injury since mid-August.

However, his boss Ben Garner has confirmed to the Addicks' official club website that he is back fit ahead of their clash against Barnsley this weekend.

Fulham situation
Fulham will have a decision to make on Sessegnon's future at Craven Cottage when he is due to return next year.

His contract expires at the end of next June and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

The former England youth international, 22, has risen up through the academy of the Premier League club and has made 19 appearances in all competitions.

His chances of breaking into their first-team over recent years have been limited so he has been loaned out to Bristol City and Plymouth Argyle to get some minutes.

Charlton came calling in early July and he was allowed to move to The Valley on a temporary basis. Injuries have affected his time in South London so far but he is back now which is good news for them and Fulham.

Newcastle United fans won't be able to get to Fulham by train due to rail strike
Newcastle United fans won't be able to get to the club's game at Fulham by train on the day.

A planned strike by train drivers, which was called off as a mark of respect following the death of the Queen, has been rearranged for October 1. Newcastle take on Fulham in London that day.

United have sold out their 2,300-ticket allocation at Craven Cottage, and LNER today announced that no trains will run north of York, in either direction, on the strike day.

A statement from the rail operator said: "A strike has been announced for this date. LNER is running an extremely limited train service on 1 October. Do not travel to and from stations north of York. No trains will run north of York in either direction. An extremely limited number of trains will run between London King's Cross and York, in both directions. Only travel unless absolutely necessary.

"There will be an extremely limited train service each way between Doncaster and Leeds."

LNER say people who booked tickets for October 1 can travel on different days – or apply for a refund.

Newcastle are yet to make any comment.

A rail strike coincided with United game away to Brighton and Hove Albion in August. The club was backed by 2,925 fans at the Amex Stadium.

Meanwhile, last weekend's game between Brighton and Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium was postponed before the death of the Queen due to a rail strike on the London to Brighton line.

Former Premier League defender heaps praise on Fulham after impressive start to the season

Fulham picked out for high praise after recent results

Pundit Jamie Carragher has hailed the impact Fulham have had on the Premier League so far this season.

Marco Silva's side have adapted well to the step up a division after winning the Championship title last term.

The Cottagers are currently sat in 6th place after the first seven games and are two points off the top four.

'Refreshing'...
Ex-Liverpool favourite Carragher has praised the London club for their work so far, as per Sky Sports:

"I think the biggest surprise, although I do think he's a really good manager, is Marco Silva and Fulham. You know, people always looking at the promoted teams and go 'will they get off to a good start or find it difficult?'

"And Bournemouth as well, obviously a new manager (Gary O'Neil) has come in. They have done really well as well but I think the impact Fulham have had on the Premier League has been refreshing.

"We don't want to see the same teams come up and the same go down so it is always nice when the promoted sides start well."

Fulham are back in action after the international break at home to Newcastle United and will be eager to carry on their momentum.

It is never easy coming up from the second tier, as they have found out the past couple of times they have played at this level, but something feels different this time around.

Silva's team are causing problems for their opponents and their recruitment over the summer was shrewd with new signings like Joao Palhinhina and Andreas Pereira slotting in nicely into the side.
