How do Fulham get anything against Man City?

Jack Stroudley looks at the near-impossible task at hand this Saturday as the Whites take on the champions.

I don't like using the term "free hit" for a game of football, but unfortunately, this weekend is one of the few times it could be valid. Fulham head up to Manchester City this weekend for their final away game before the World Cup, a nearly guaranteed defeat along which, along with train strikes effecting the country, will probably result in fewer fans going up than usual.

I've been to the Etihad three times and seen Fulham lose a combined 11-1. However, is there any way that Fulham can come away with a Diomansy Kamara-esque smash and grab over the Premier League holders?

Our opponents
Where to even begin with Manchester City? Their squad is arguably the most stacked in the world with quality and depth in every position. That said, it only feels right to start with a certain Norwegian cheat code Erling Haaland. He's already managed to bag 17 goals this season in just 11 appearances; there's a question mark in regards to his fitness, but even if he doesn't play his backup is the more-than-capable Julian Alvarez who has settled into Premier League life well.

I've attached Manchester City's average positions for their game against Leicester last weekend and it truly is grim viewing for Fulham. Every single outfield player bar Aymeric Laporte spent more time in the opposition half last weekend than their own (and even the Spaniard is on the border!) Every attacking threat City have is frightening with De Bruyne, an enthused and in-form Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez and Bernando Silva all at Pep's disposal this weekend.

I don't want to sit here and just talk about how good Manchester City are, but it's impossible not to; they're yet to drop a point at home all season scoring a combined 27 goals in those six game. Is there anyway Fulham can cause a shock?

How do we prepare?
I've cast my mind back to last season during the FA Cup fixture, throughout the first half we were very much in the game and even took the lead through Fabio Carvalho. I remember thinking at half time if we can keep it at 2-1 we are very much in this (we all know what happened next). After the game City fans tweeted about how impressed they'd been with Fulham's first-half display. The way we approached that game was the same as we approached every game last season – with no fear.

We pressed City when possible, tried to play out from the back, created opportunities when given the chance and overall gave City a good test for 45 minutes. If we want any luck of getting a shock result from this game then we need to do the same again.

In terms of attacking personnel, it's a shame Bobby De Cordova-Reid is absent for this one as I think him and Tete doubling up would've been our best chance on the right-hand side to both create chances and try and limit Manchester City. Because of that, I'm going to go with Harry Wilson on the right and Willian on the left. While Willian may not offer us a lot of defensive stability and tracking back, he offers us an unpredictability. He's been impressive over the last month or so and his dribbling ability, the way he can drag a man to offer space as well as quality from set pieces is something we will need if we want any chance.

Wilson has had a slow start this season, he's obviously had to deal with an injury and maybe is trying to regain match fitness and sharpness. But, he is a talented player with lots of ability, knows Mitrovic well and can always pop up with a goal or an assist. Similarly to Willian, we'll need him at his best if we want any chance of getting a result.

The final verdict
It's going to be tough, we all know that. City's tenacity and relentless nature going forward are just two reasons why people claim they are the best team in the world. But Silva and his side showed in patches last season at the Etihad that we can compete against the best on our day. This season has exceeded expectations so far. We couldn't.... could we?

The Story So Far: Liam Rosenior

An in-depth look at the career of our new head coach, Liam Rosenior...

Born in Wandsworth, South London, Liam Rosenior is the son of former player and manager Leroy Rosenior. Beginning his playing career at Bristol City, scoring twice in 23 appearances and winning the Football League Trophy, the 38-year-old then spent five seasons on the books of Fulham.

Making 92 appearances for the Cottagers, as well as spending time on loan at Torquay United and representing England at Under-20 and Under-21 levels, Rosenior's next move was Reading in August 2007, making 69 appearances. He also spent the majority of the 2009/10 season on loan at Ipswich Town.

The full-back joined Hull City on a free transfer in October 2010 on an original short-term contract until January, making his debut a day later in a 1-1 draw away at Barnsley. Penning a two-and-a-half-year deal in December 2010, Rosenior stayed with the Tigers for five years.

Helping the club achieve promotion to the Premier League, reach their first-ever FA Cup final, as well as featuring in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League, Rosenior made 161 appearances for Hull City, scoring his only goal in a 2-0 home victory over West Bromwich Albion in March 2014.

While at the Tigers, he began his coaching badges, completing his UEFA B Coaching badge by taking coaching sessions with the Under-21s.

Spending three years at Brighton & Hove Albion as a player before retiring, he remained with the Seagulls as assistant coach to Simon Rusk of their Under-23 team. Rosenior spent a year in the post before being appointed specialist first-team coach to Phillip Cocu at Derby County.

In January 2021, Rosenior was promoted to assistant manager following the appointment of Wayne Rooney as manager.

Following the resignation of Rooney in June 2022, the 38-year-old was appointed interim manager of Derby County. Looking to steer Derby towards the League One promotion places, Rosenior managed 12 games, winning seven games, drawing two and losing three, leaving him with a win percentage of 58.33%.

Preview: Manchester City vs. Fulham - prediction, team news, lineups

Seeking to extend their winning run at the Etihad Stadium to 15 games across all competitions, Manchester City play host to Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Citizens currently sit second in the table and two points adrift of leaders Arsenal, while the Cottagers are flying high in seventh place, five points behind the top four.

Match preview
After securing a slender 1-0 victory away at Leicester City last weekend, courtesy of a stunning Kevin De Bruyne free kick, Man City capped off their Champions League group-stage campaign with a 3-1 success at home against Sevilla on Wednesday.

In what was a dead rubber fixture for the Citizens, who had already qualified for the last 16 as Group A winners, Rafa Mir headed the visitors in front before half time, but 17-year-old Rico Lewis equalised on his full debut – breaking a Champions League record in the process – before Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez completed the comeback to keep the Sky Blues unbeaten in this season's competition.

Indeed, City's win over Sevilla is the first of four successive matches at the Etihad before the World Cup break, with Saturday's clash against Fulham followed by next Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round tie with Chelsea and a Premier League encounter against Brentford.

Guardiola's men have put together an impressive 14-game winning streak on home soil in all competitions – scoring at least three goals in all but one of those fixtures – and they are unbeaten in their last 18 matches at the Etihad since a 3-2 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur back in February.

City have already scored 10 goals at home against two newly-promoted teams this season, beating Bournemouth 4-0 and Nottingham Forest 6-0 in August, and they will be confident of more success against Fulham this weekend.

The Citizens have won each of their last 12 meetings in all competitions against the Cottagers, and claiming another victory would see Guardiola's side momentarily climb to the Premier League summit before leaders Arsenal travel to Chelsea on Sunday.

Fulham were unable to claim a third successive Premier League victory last weekend as they were forced to play out a goalless draw at home against Everton.

The Cottagers registered just six of their 24 shots on target and head coach Marco Silva was left ruing several missed opportunities to win the match against a resilient Toffees outfit, who had an inspired Jordan Pickford to thank between the sticks.

Nevertheless, after winning the Championship title last season, Fulham fans will be delighted to see their side sitting seventh in the Premier League table, eight points clear of the relegation zone and above the likes of Liverpool, West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City who all finished the previous campaign in the top half.

Fulham have already accumulated more points this season (19) after 13 games than they managed at this stage of the 2018-19 (eight) and 2020-21 (nine) campaigns combined, but adding more points to their tally could prove challenging this weekend.

The West Londoners have lost each of their last nine Premier League meetings against Man City, failing to score in their last five, and they have also won just two of their 15 top-flight away matches against reigning champions, although they did secure a 1-0 win in their most recent such meeting against Liverpool in March 2021.

In addition, three of Fulham's four Premier League victories against Man City have come at the Etihad – most recently a 3-1 win in April 2009 – which bodes well for Silva and co heading into Saturday's contest.

Team News
Guardiola is hopeful that Erling Braut Haaland will be fit to lead the line for Man City on Saturday; the Norwegian striker has missed the last two games with ankle ligament damage and will be assessed ahead of kickoff.

Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips both remain sidelined as they continue to recover from respective groin and shoulder surgeries, but there is optimism around both players in their quest to return before the World Cup.

After making seven changes against Sevilla, Guardiola is expected to recall a number of his first-team regulars, with De Bruyne, Rodri and Bernardo Silva all set to start in midfield.

Centre-back Manuel Akanji missed training earlier this week and was not involved on Wednesday, but he is expected to be fit for Saturday's game and could return to the back four along with Joao Cancelo, John Stones and Nathan Ake, who were all benched in midweek.

As for Fulham, Silva is forced to make at least two changes to his starting lineup, as makeshift right-back Bobby Decordova-Reid is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards, while Neeskens Kebano is ruled out for "several months" with a ruptured Achilles.

Kenny Tete recovered from injury to feature as a substitute last weekend and the Dutchman is the most likely candidate to replace Decordova-Reid at right-back, joining Issa Diop, Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson in the back four.

The absence of Kebano could see either Daniel James or Harry Wilson handed a start on the right flank, joining Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic in attack – only Haaland (17) and Harry Kane (10) have scored more Premier League goals than Mitrovic (nine) so far this season.

Manchester City possible starting lineup:
Ederson; Stones, Akanji, Ake, Cancelo; De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo; Foden, Haaland, Grealish

Fulham possible starting lineup:
Leno; Tete, Diop, Ream, Robinson; Reed, Palhinha; James, Pereira, Willian; Mitrovic

We say: Manchester City 4-1 Fulham
Teams visiting the Etihad Stadium have found it difficult to keep Man City quiet in front of goal so far this season, and even if Haaland is not fit to feature, the Citizens still possess an attacking threat capable of breaching Fulham's backline.

The Cottagers will fancy their chances in the final third, having already scored against Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle United this term, but we expect the hosts to outscore their opponents and secure their 10th league win of the season.

Kebano faces long spell out with Achilles injury

Fulham winger Neeskens Kebano is set for a long spell on the sidelines after rupturing his Achilles in training.

The 30-year-old is set to undergo treatment from a specialist but is expected to be out for several months.

Kebano has played a key part in Fulham's strong start to the season, making 12 Premier League appearances so far this campaign while recording three assists.

"It is sad news for us as a group and me and as a manager," Fulham boss Marco Silva said.

"He is a top guy and everybody loves him in this football club we now need to support him and make him feel better again.

"In terms of football we are stronger with him, but it is the chance for others now.

"He has started so well this season and now I have to support him as well as I can."

Kebano 'ruptures Achilles' in training
Fulham winger Neeskens Kebano will miss several months of football after rupturing his Achilles during a training session at Motspur Park.

A club statement this confirmed that the Democratic Republic of Congo international will undergo 'specialist consultation' to determine the appropriate course of action for the 30 year-old. Kebano's injury is a bitter blow as the popular winger has been rejuvenated by the coaching of Marco Silva and Luis Boa Morte since the Portuguese pair arrived at Fulham last summer, with the former PSG man producing the best form of his Cottagers' career as a result.

Kebano proved pivotal in Fulham's Championship-winning campaign last season, scoring nine goals and adding seven assists in 44 appearances in all competitions. The former Charleroi and Genk winger – shipped out on loan to Middlesbrough during Fulham's last Premier League campaign by Scott Parker – has made twelve top-flight appearances this term, supplying three assists, with the most recent teeing up Andreas Pereira for the Brazilian's first goal for his new club at West Ham last month.

Fulham's statement said:

"The club can confirm that Neeskens Kebano has unfortunately suffered a ruptured Achilles in training this week. He will now undergo specialist consultation and will be out of action for several months. Everyone at Fulham will be supporting Neeskens throughout his rehabilitation process, and we all wish him a speedy and successful recovery."

Vote For Bernd!

Bernd Leno has been nominated for the Premier League's Castrol Save of the Month award.

It was the second of his double save in our 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in the middle of October.

After keeping out Jefferson Lerma's initial effort from a corner, Leno got to his feet quickly to put himself in a position to push over Adam Smith's header from just four yards out.

Speaking about the remarkable reflex save, Leno said:  "It came across after a corner to the back post, short distance, low, I could only parry the ball.

"Then the second ball came and I behaved a little bit like a handball goalkeeper! It was a reflex, instinctive save.

"Even when I touched it, I wasn't sure where the ball was. When I saw it was behind the goal I was very happy because it was 2-1 for Bournemouth. I think if it was 3-1 it would be very difficult to come back, so I was very happy to save that."

His competition comes from Kepa Arrizabalaga (versus Aston Villa), Ederson (versus Liverpool), Hugo Lloris (versus Manchester United), Dean Henderson (versus Liverpool), and David De Gea (versus Manchester United).

Vote for Bernd

Voting closes at 12pm on Monday, and the winner will be announced at 2pm on Friday 11th November.

Soccer-Fulham's Kebano out for several months with Achilles injury

Nov 3 (Reuters) - Fulham winger Neeskens Kebano faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a ruptured Achilles in training this week, the Premier League club said on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Democratic Republic of Congo international has been a regular for Fulham this season, with three assists in 12 league appearances.

"He will now undergo specialist consultation and will be out of action for several months," Fulham said in a statement.

Marco Silva's promoted side, seventh in the standings with 19 points from 13 games, travel to champions Manchester City on Saturday.

Leno nominated for save of the month
Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno is contention for the Premier League's save of the month of the award after his incredible heroics against Bournemouth.

The German goalkeeper produced a superb double stop to prevent Jefferson Lerma and then Adam Smith putting the Cherries' 3-1 up on the stroke of half time at Craven Cottage last month. The Whites came back to equalise in the second half through an Aleksandar Mitrovic spot-kick and could count themselves unfortunate not to emerge from an end-to-end encounter with all three points.

Leno gave his recollection of the game's turning point to Fulham's official website this afternoon:

It came across after a corner to the back post, short distance, low, I could only parry the ball. Then the second ball came and I behaved a little bit like a handball goalkeeper! It was a reflex, instinctive save. Even when I touched it, I wasn't sure where the ball was. When I saw it was behind the goal I was very happy because it was 2-1 for Bournemouth. I think if it was 3-1 it would be very difficult to come back, so I was very happy to save that."

Leno has been nominated for Castrol's save of the month accolade alongside Kepa Arizzabalaga, Ederson, David de Gea, Hugo Lloris and Dean Henderson. The winner is decided by public vote. You can cast your vote for Leno here until noon at Monday – and the result will be announced next Friday afternoon.

Neeskens Kebano is set to miss several MONTHS of action after the Fulham star ruptured his Achilles in training, with the winger due to see a specialist after enjoying an impressive start to the season for Marco Silva's side

Kebano had been enjoying an impressive season for the high-flying Cottagers

Fulham winger Neeskens Kebano faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a ruptured Achilles in training.

The 30-year-old has been a key part of Marco Silva's Fulham side this season, playing 12 times so far in the Premier League, laying on three assists.

Kebano has made 155 appearances for the Cottagers since joining from Genk in 2016, scoring 24 goals in total.

Fulham have exceeded all expectations during the first part of the season, and currently sit in seventh place, above Liverpool and just two points behind Chelsea.

However, the Cottagers will be without Kebano for a number of months, the club said in a statement, with the player due to undergo specialist consultation.

'Everyone at Fulham will be supporting Neeskens throughout his rehabilitation process, and we all wish him a speedy and successful recovery,' Fulham said.

Kebano has been revitalised since Silva took over as Fulham boss at the start of last season

Kebano, a DR Congo international, is enjoying his third taste of the Premier League but this is the first time he has really been able to showcase his talent.

During Fulham's two previous stints in the top flight, the winger made just a combined 13 appearances in total and was farmed out on loan to Middlesbrough during the 2020-21 season when he fell out-of-favour under Scott Parker.

He has been revitalised since Silva arrived in the Craven Cottage hot seat last summer as he enjoyed his most productive campaign.

In 40 Championship games Kebano scored nine times and added a further six assists as Fulham romped to the league title, netting 106 goals in the process.

Fulham have already scored 22 goals in just 13 games so far this season and they face league games against Manchester City and Manchester United before the World Cup break.

West Ham and Fulham scouting Lorient ace along with Premier League rivals

Latest transfer news involving both West Ham and Fulham

West Ham and Fulham are both reportedly keeping tabs on FC Lorient midfielder Enzo Le Fee. The Frenchman has caught the eye playing in Ligue 1 over the past few years.

90min claim scouts from both the Hammers and the Cottagers have watched him this season. They aren't the only two clubs in the frame though, with Leicester City, Newcastle United, Lazio, Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund mentioned as potential suitors as well.

West Ham and Fulham target
West Ham and Fulham will both be keeping a tentative eye on the upcoming January transfer window. The World Cup break gives the London pair a chance to assess their options in their squad and decide whether they need any additions this winter.

Lo Fee, 22, has been on the books at Lorient for his whole career to date and rose up through their academy. He was a regular for them at various youth levels before breaking into the first-team in 2019 after a couple of years with the reserves.

The former France youth international, who represented the Olympic team for his country last year, has since established himself as one of his club's most prized assets. He has made 119 appearances in all competitions to date and has chipped in with four goals and 12 assists.

West Ham and Fulham are being linked with a swoop for him now but are likely to face competition for his signature if they pursue a deal for him. His current contract expires in 2024.

Team News: Marco's Kebano Reaction

Marco Silva was gutted to lose the services of Neeskens Kebano, after it was announced that the winger had suffered a ruptured Achilles in training this week.

A popular member of the group, Kebano has been playing the best football of his career under Silva, who will be giving his full support to our number seven as he undergoes his rehabilitation.

"Sad, sad news for us as a football club, for us as a group, and personally for me as a manager," Silva said. "Top, top guy, top lad, great professional, and a happy guy.

"He's a strong character inside our dressing room, everyone loves him in this football club. I've been really pleased to have him these last 15 months under me.

"Now we have just one way to deal with the situation: support him as much as we can in everything to make him feel better again and feel happy again.

"I know that Neeskens is happy when he is in our dressing room and on the pitch as well, and this is the main thing for us. Apart from that, in terms of football and our team, of course we are stronger with him.

"Now we don't have him, it's a moment for some of the others to pop up because I think it was enjoyable to see how Neeskens performed since I joined this football club last season.

"When everyone was saying that probably nothing more will come from Neeskens, last season he proved himself. Then, the beginning of this season, everyone was saying, 'okay, Premier League is too much for him,' but the reality was that he started the season so well and he kept showing his quality. I was really pleased for that.

"Now I have to support him in every way I can, as much as I can, to make him feel better again and happy, and back on the pitch after some months."

In addition to Kebano, Bobby De Cordova-Reid will also miss Saturday's trip to Manchester City having picked up his fifth booking of the season against Everton last weekend.

Layvin Kurzawa has returned to training, though, while Silva also revealed that we could see Manor Solomon back in action in January.

Fulham winger Neeskens Kebano ruled out for 'several months'

Fulham have been dealt a blow by the news that Neeskens Kebano will be absent until at least the spring with an Achilles injury.

The Cottagers are enjoying a strong first season back in the Premier League, collecting 19 points from their opening 13 fixtures.

While Aleksandar Mitrovic has been credited as a pivotal figure for Fulham, Kebano has also held down a regular spot in the starting lineup.

Despite the influx of higher-profile arrivals during the summer, the 30-year-old has made nine starts and three substitute appearances in the top flight.

Kebano was also part of the team which earned a goalless draw against Everton last time out, the DR Congo international featuring for 67 minutes.

However, it was announced on Thursday that Kebano faces a prolonged period on the sidelines after suffering a ruptured Achilles in training.

A club statement read: "The club can confirm that Neeskens Kebano has unfortunately suffered a ruptured Achilles in training this week.

"He will now undergo specialist consultation and will be out of action for several months.

"Everyone at Fulham will be supporting Neeskens throughout his rehabilitation process, and we all wish him a speedy and successful recovery."

The injury to Kebano is the latest significant issue to a creative player this campaign with Harry Wilson and Manor Solomon also spending time on the sidelines.

While Wilson returned in October and has been building up his fitness, Solomon remains out in the long term with a serious knee injury.

Fulham have just two fixtures to play before the upcoming World Cup, facing Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday before hosting Manchester United on October 13.

Fulham boss Marco Silva insists his side ARE preparing to face Erling Haaland this weekend... after the Norwegian striker missed Man City's last two games with a foot problem

Fulham have been preparing to face Man City with Erling Haaland included
The Norwegian forward has missed their last two games with a foot injury
Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm with 17 goals in 11 games
It is still unclear whether or not he will be fit enough to play the Cottagers

Fulham have prepared to face Manchester City assuming that in-form striker Erling Haaland will be fit to play, according to boss Marco Silva.

The Norwegian forward sustained a foot injury during City's Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund on October 25 and missed wins at Leicester last weekend and Sevilla on Wednesday.

Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm since his summer arrival, scoring 17 goals in just 11 top-flight matches, but it remains to be seen whether he has recovered in sufficient time to face the Cottagers this weekend.

Silva has been preparing his Fulham players to go up against the 22-year-old, and said: '(He is) a top, top striker. You know the impact that he made in the squad and in the Premier League as well, we know they are really, really tough when they play at home.

'Of course, Haaland is a key player for them. Let's see, it's more for Pep (Guardiola) and for them (questions on Haaland's fitness), but we are preparing for the game thinking that he will play and we will have to wait for some time before the kick-off to know.'

Fulham have their own striker in impressive form, with Aleksandar Mitrovic grabbing nine goals from 12 top-flight matches.

However, Silva was unwilling to get drawn into comparisons between the two.

'It is unfair for me to compare,' Silva added. 'You know that I am delighted to have Mitrovic with us and I'm sure that Pep is delighted to have Haaland with them as well.

'All the other things we cannot compare, they are different profiles as strikers. I am delighted to have Mitro with us.'

Fulham have exceeded all expectations in the first part of the season and currently sit seventh, above Liverpool and just two points behind Chelsea.

But they have been dealt an injury blow with news that winger Neeskens Kebano will be out for a number of months after rupturing an Achilles in training.

The 30-year-old had been a key part of the team, playing 12 times so far in all competitions, and Silva hailed his character.

'It's sad, sad news for us as a football club, for us as a group and for me personally as a manager,' Silva said.

'He's a top, top guy, a top lad, a great professional and a happy guy - if I can say a happy footballer - and a strong character inside our dressing room and everyone loves him in this football club.

I am really happy to have (had him here) the last 15 months under me and of course there is just one way to deal with the situation - support him in every way you can about everything to make him feel better again and feel happy again.'

Pre-Man City Press Conference

Marco Silva acknowledged that fixtures don't come much trickier than Manchester City away, but wants Fulham to try and imprint themselves on the match.

Saturday will be our second trip to the Etihad this calendar year, having flown out of the blocks in an FA Cup tie there in February.

A fourth minute strike from Fabio Carvalho put us in front that day before we ultimately slipped to defeat, but Silva is keen for a similarly positive mindset at the weekend.

"The next one will be probably one of the most difficult ones at this level, in my opinion, against the best team in this competition, probably one of the best in the world as well," he explained.

"Top, top quality all over the pitch, with a philosophy that is really difficult to play against, with one of the best, if not the best, manager in the world as well.

"It means that the target and the challenge is really tough for us, but we have to embrace it. We had a good example last season when we played against them in the FA Cup.

"Our first half was really, really good, and if we could repeat that first half I will be delighted because the way we played was really impressive, impressive for me as a manager, and we will try to replicate the same thing again.

"When we have the ball, we have to express ourselves, we have to attack them. If you don't attack them, if you don't try to score, your chances to get a good result will be really low.

"They are aware of our quality for sure, I know that, but we have to try to attack them."

Asked if facing City is a unique proposition compared to any other side, Silva replied: "They are different to all the others, and we have to be realistic.

"We have top, top teams in this competition, and they are not even in the top of the table. I don't want to be unfair with the team that is in the top right now, that is Arsenal, but of course [City] are different.

"They are the most difficult one to play against, in my opinion. They have the quality, but for sure some teams can compete and can beat them, and let's hope we can.

"It will be really difficult for us, but it's our obligation to try."

Erling Haaland has just the 22 goals to his name after joining City in the summer, but he has not featured since being withdrawn at half-time in the Champions League on October 25th.

Silva, though, is working on the assumption that the Norwegian will be fit.

"Top, top striker, with the impact that he made in that squad," he said. "We know they are really tough to beat when they play at home.

"Their average goals scored this season is impressive in the Premier League, more than four goals per game when playing at home.

"It's an impressive number at this level, and of course Haaland is a key player for them. Let's see, [his involvement] is more for Pep than for us.

"We prepare for the game thinking that he will play."

Silva wants Fulham to 'embrace' daunting trip to Man City

Marco Silva admits Fulham face a daunting prospect taking on Manchester City on Saturday, but wants his players to relish the challenge.

Pep Guardiola's team can go top of the Premier League with victory, and boast an outstanding home record, with 11 successive wins on home soil dating back to April 10 last season when they drew with Liverpool.

City last tasted defeat at the Etihad Stadium in February against Tottenham, and on Fulham's most recent visit in last season's FA Cup fourth round they were beaten 4-1 despite taking an early lead.

However, Whites boss Silva insists they will head to the north west with nothing to lose.

And he is preparing for the hosts to be with Erling Haaland, despite the outstanding Norwegian nursing a foot problem that could keep him out.

"The challenge for us is really tough but we have to embrace it," Silva said.

"A good example was in last season in the FA Cup where in the first half we were really good.

"If we can repeat that first-half performance I will be delighted, because the way we played that day was really impressive and we will try to replicate that again.

"Haaland is a top striker and the impact he has made on that squad in the Premier League is very big.

"We know they really tough when they play at home and the are averaging more than four goals a game at home and Haaland is a key player for them."
