How are Bournemouth getting Zaniolo?! They seem to have had money appear from nowhere.

New owner. They didn't spend very much over the summer either

They didn't spend much because they essentially maxed out FFP last season - the new owner may have access to more money but if they spend all these millions and still go down then they're totally stuffed

I wonder if this means that there may be yet another midfielder coming in (assuming that Lukic is done), or that Onomah may stay this window. Because otherwise we would still be about one injury away from having only youngsters as cover in midfield (which I wouldn't mind per se, but players like Pajaziti has not even been on the bench this year which to me indicates that no one is deemed to be close to challenging yet).

Chalobah out. Onomah probably out too.

We only will sign one midfielder? lukic...

Palhinha, Reed, Lukic and Cairney.  I don't think is enough

Good business if he true, too nonchalant for top tier football and doesn't know what his best position is either.

Onomah and Chalobah would free some space up, and offload the books.

With Knocky out too, finally removing a lot of dead weight.

Probably is a bit light, but Andreas can play deeper if needed and Wilson plays CM for his country, so if stretched we can shuffle.

Main thing is clearing out excess players we don't need to allow the summer to go to plan and focused on incomings.

Pereira too. I wouldn't mind another midfielder, but it's not that necessary.

Palhinha-Lukic(when he settles in)- Pereira is a good starting midfield with Reed and Cairney proven backups. Pereira and Cairney can both cover 2 positions in the midfield, so can Harrison and Lukic can play in all three, while Solomon and Wilson could potentially play as a 10 as well.

Assuming Lukic is a done deal, get a rightback and wait for summer when we can spend more and get higher quality players imo.

Says spurs are his preferred destination and he rejected Bournemouth.

I'd rather play Diop in the DM role, alongside Reed and Pereira in their normal positions, than play Onomah in any position.

JimmyConway

How on earth does Diop suddenly become an defensive midfield player?  He looks possibly the least likely player in the squad who could play that role!

My (hamfisted) point being that I really don't think Onomah should play any role in this team.

That's my assumption. Chalobah is our only back up 6. By all accounts Lukic can cover 6, but is more of an 8/10.

It's also one of those things where, if we're a smartly run club, we should be looking to sign a young player to cover Palhinha with the expectation they will succeed him.

Bracken White

Good news re Chalobah, in the nicest possible way he really isn't good enough, from what I've seen. Still believe there's something about Onomah but really pastures new & 1st team football  must be better from his point of view.
Lukic appears a quality addition & Silva seems dead keen on Cedric - so that's fine & it'd be nice to get Shane Duffy on a permanent contract - good old warhorse to have in the wings.
All good ... lets get back to winning ways!

But neither one of Onomah and Chalobah played a lot this season. Lukic would certainly get much more minutes than both of them combined, so we would be able to rotate our squad more probably.

Also I feel like we have a similar problem with Palhinha that we have with Mitro. We're not likely to sign someone better than them who is a specialist in that position, so both of them are likely to play every match when available. I think Lukic and Reed are both capable of playing a few matches in which Palhinha isn't available (Lukic plays almost exclusively as a DM for our national team and Reed played there often in previous seasons).

I,m not sure that Sasa Lukic would pass a medical , currently out with a hamstring injury
If it wasn't for the medication I,d be chewing on your skin

humussapiens

But the club management decides whether he passes medical or not. Doctors just present the current findings. Otherwise, if doctors decide, Kongolo would never pass, maybe even Mawson would fail.

Pluto

We need to keep Onomah if Chalobah is leaving and Lukic is arriving injured. Otherwise we will be desperately thin.
