So how are the mob down the road able to spend £460m and still conform to FFP?  :022:

There was an article on the BBC sport pages the other day that suggests they are well within FFP.

They're not and it's a total sham, in the same way that Manchester City have the highest revenue in football somehow despite not having the biggest fan base by a mile, and several "sponsors" who upon closer inspection have no CEO or board. People got arsey with us having a dodgy sponsor but most of City's aren't real or dubious and exist purely to circumvent FFP, this is the modern world of football we're trying to compete in sadly

Where do we stand with FFP and how much do we realistically have to spend on transfers?

davew

Simple really, get rid of your Russian owner and the slate is wiped clean. Let them spend what they like, we could beneift by taking a few of their lesser lights!

"Fair" nothings fair in football. Spurs get till Monday night to recover from tonight's match. We got till Sunday lunch for the Newcastle game. Why the difference?

FFP basically doesn't exist unless a club is relegated.

It'll be interesting to see how Everton survive if they go down, because they have a huge wage bill, tons of unsellable dross and a mountain of unservicable debt without Premier League income streams.

Well its quite simple. Transfer fees are amortised over the life of the contract. They're signing people to 6,7 even 8 year deals, which brings the FFP impact waaaay down.

On top of that player sales are instantly recognised in FFP terms, and they regularly sell about 100m worth of players most years.

Generally the smart thing to do FFP wise is exactly what they're doing now. Signing young players on long deals, selling players that arent quite good enough for inflated transfer fees. They'll probably end up selling Gallagher and RLC in the summer for 80 odd million aswell. That tactic only works if you have no threat of relegation. Southampton tried to do exactly the same thing in the summer (at a lower level of quality) and they're probably going down

What if Forest get relegated.... they've spent bundle's

It wouldn't look very good if a US based outfit failed to resurrect an outfit made to measure for the PL big six by a Russian oligarch would it?
