Liverpool battle Manchester United for Joao Palhinha

Liverpool are all set to battle it out with Manchester United for the signature of Portuguese defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha.

According to The Sun, Liverpool and Manchester United are set to enter a transfer tussle for the services of Joao Palhinha. The 27-year-old Portuguese midfielder has been sensational in the ongoing season. His performances have not gone unnoticed and a lot of clubs are keen on acquiring him ahead of next season. And a fee of £40 million might be enough to sign him.

Palhinha came through the ranks at Sporting CP before making a move to Premier League club Fulham ahead of the 2022/23 season. Initially, he was subject to quite a few loan moves during his time in Portugal. However, he managed to break into the Portuguese club's first team in the 2020/21 season.

After two incredible years for Sporting CP, Fulham came calling, and the 27-year-old decided to move to England. He joined the Cottagers for £17 million in the summer and has been sensational since making the move.

The Portugal international has made 28 appearances in the ongoing season and has four goals to his name. Fulham has enjoyed a great season so far, as they are eighth in the league. And Palhinha has surely played a big part in it.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, and a lot of clubs are ready to spend big in the summer for his services. The 27-year-old has a contract with the Cottagers that runs until the summer of 2027. But, he might be on his way out just a year after joining them because of the amount of interest from across the globe.

Manchester United and Liverpool are keen on signing the defensive midfielder. Manchester United are looking for further reinforcement in the centre of the park. While they did sign Casemiro ahead of the ongoing season, the Red Devils are still in search of another defensive midfielder to rotate the Brazilian midfielder. It will also allow Erik ten Hag to play Casemiro and Palhinha in a double pivot role.

However, Liverpool are ready to battle with United for the 27-year-old's services. Liverpool are keen on a midfield overhaul, and their main target is Jude Bellingham. While they will go all out for Bellingham, Jurgen Klopp's team are also looking to sign Palhinha.

They are need a new defensive midfielder. And, the Portugal international surely fits the bill having already proved himself in the Premier League. The 27-year-old is currently valued at £40 million. And, it will be interesting to see which of the clubs manage to price him away from the Cottagers.

What Richarlison once said about Tottenham manager target Marco Silva

One Tottenham Hotspur player may be very happy to see Marco Silva become the club's new manager in the summer, with Richarlison previously working under the Portuguese.

Doubts persist over the future of Antonio Conte beyond this season. And The Sun has reported this week that Silva has emerged as the top target after an outstanding time with Fulham.

Silva has rebuilt his reputation at Craven Cottage. He needed that after a difficult time at Everton. However, the work he did at Goodison Park is arguably looking a lot better with the benefit of hindsight.

Richarlison may welcome Marco Silva at Tottenham
Of course, one player who may be pleased to see Silva appointed is Richarlison. The forward's relationship with Conte has been under the microscope in recent days. And he may be one player who may not mind if the Italian leaves in the summer.

And Silva is someone he clearly has a lot of respect for. He signed for him at Watford and Everton. And in 2021, he explained just how much he appreciates the Portuguese.

"Marco Silva was the one who brought me here to England. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here today," he said, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

"It was his request to sign me for Watford and he brought me here to Everton as well when he became manager. I remember it like it was yesterday, I was the first signing he asked for.

"I owe a great deal to Marco Silva, he trusted me and I trusted him, I think we had a great relationship and I was able to help him at both clubs."

Daniel Levy is unlikely to make a decision on the club's new manager just on the basis of who Richarlison may like. But there is no question that Conte has not got anything like enough out of the Brazilian since his arrival.

Conte is not entirely to blame, but neither is Richarlison.

Silva has got a proven track record for getting performances out of the 25-year-old. And Richarlison went on to vindicate the Toffees' decision to spend up to £50 million on him in 2018.

He looks a long way off proving to be good value for money right now at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But the potential is definitely there.

And Silva is someone who knows that better than most.

The price for a Brighton full back is 60m and Aston villa sold their best player Grealish for 100m so Palhinha must be worth 80m with such a long contract and if Liverpool come knocking add on another 40m for what they ripped us off on the Carvalho and Elliot deals. Not to mention the Neco Williams price tag. Out of our starting eleven the last two players I would want to sell is Palhinha and Leno.

A man after my own heart Mick. They've ripped us of so often it's payback time if they want him, although why he would go there and play Sunday League style football heaven only knows.

I am surprised that Spurs are considering Silva as their manager. Sure we all love Silva at the Cottage, in his short time he has worked wonders for us although at this moment we are struggling for good performances..Come the end of the season we could finish mid table and this may be Silva's best ever premier league record, he hasn't been with any premier league club for a long period.
Surely there are managers with better records than this for Spurs to consider

Well he finished 8th with Everton. Pochettino hadn't done much notable in his career before he went to Spurs and he was a great success, whereas Mourinho had achieved a lot and that didn't end well. That being said, I obviously hope they aren't seriously considering him.
