Chelsea eye Marco Silva as surprise replacement for Graham Potter after Fulham success

Fulham manager Marco Silva is reportedly amongst the candidates being considered by Chelsea as Todd Boehly looks to replace Graham Potter in the Stamford Bridge dugout

Chelsea are eyeing Marco Silva as a surprise candidate to replace Graham Potter after his success at Fulham.

The Fulham boss has emerged as one of the contenders to take over at Stamford Bridge after owner Todd Boehly sacked Potter on Sunday. Potter leaves Chelsea after just seven months in charge following Saturday's 2-0 loss to Aston Villa, which left the club 11th in the Premier League, one place below Silva's Fulham.

According to the Mirror, Silva is being considered by Chelsea to become the club's new head coach, along with current frontrunners Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Everton manager is enjoying an impressive first season back in the top flight at Craven Cottage, having guided Fulham to the Championship title last term.

His side now find themselves one place and one point above Chelsea, who have placed Bruno Saltor in interim charge following the decision to dismiss Potter.

In a club statement on Sunday, Chelsea announced: "Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition.

"In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future."

Potter had been Chelsea boss since September, having replaced former manager Thomas Tuchel earlier in the season, and took charge of 31 matches. Of those games, Potter tasted victory in 12 and lost 11.

His exit comes after the Blues were beaten by Villa on Saturday, with Potter taking responsibility for the club's poor form after the match.

Speaking to the BBC at full-time, he explained: "The most important number is the one that goes against us (the scoreline). We have to do better.

"In terms of the game, you can see the players gave everything, they took on the responsibility, they tried, they had lots of entries into the box and shots and attacks.

"After a defeat there is always a disappointment. There is always a feeling we have not moved forward, that's fair to say. We have to analyse the performance and look at the things we've done well and what we can do better.

"I don't like to blame anybody, I have to take responsibility. We are a team, we have to stay together, we are together. We win or lose together."

Bruno is set to take charge of Chelsea for Tuesday night's league clash with Liverpool as the search for a new permanent manager gets underway. The Blues also face Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League later this month.

Fulham: Cottagers make contact with Hakim Ziyech

The midfielder wants to leave Chelsea this summer.

Fulham are interested in signing Chelsea's Hakim Ziyech, and they have already made contact about a summer move, according to a recent report.

Who could Fulham sign this summer?
Despite a recent dip in form, losing their last four matches in all competitions, Fulham have still had a solid first season back in the top flight, but Marco Silva will still be keen to bring in additional reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

Given that Aleksandar Mitrovic has been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage, a new striker may be needed, and it was reported earlier this month that the west London club are ready to make a move for Olivier Giroud.

The Cottagers are also interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach defender Joe Scally, and they have recently received a boost with the news that he could be available for €12.5m (£10.5m) this summer.

Silva is keen to bring in new options all over the pitch, and a recent report from French outlet Jeunes Footeux states Ziyech is determined to leave Chelsea this summer, with Fulham being named as one of the clubs in contact about a move (via Sport Witness).

However, the Cottagers are not the only English side interested in the Moroccan, with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United also named as potential suitors, while a move abroad could also be on the cards, as Paris Saint-Germain are still in contact.

The report states it is "certain" the 30-year-old will not remain at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer, having already tried to leave in the January transfer window, which could make a deal easier to facilitate.

Will Hakim Ziyech join Fulham?
One potential stumbling block is the midfielder's huge wages, with the midfielder currently earning £100k-per-week at Chelsea, which could lead him to join a team playing in European competition, with more money to match his wage demands.

However, if Fulham are able to complete a deal, the former Ajax man could be an excellent addition to the squad, given that he has been lauded "world class" by teammate Mason Mount, who also dubbed him a "joy to play with".

The 2022/23 campaign has not been easy for the Dronten-born maestro, making just 13 appearances in the top flight, however, he achieved a 7.09 average Sofascore rating last season, which would make him the best-performing midfielder in the current Fulham squad. As such, Silva should continue to monitor Ziyech, as he would be a real upgrade on the Cottagers' current midfield options.

Manor: Game Of Two Halves

Manor Solomon was at a loss as to why Fulham's performance dropped in the second half at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Ahead through Andreas Pereira's early strike and in control of proceedings, the Whites struggled to match those levels after the restart, ultimately falling to a 2-1 loss.

"I have no idea why this happened," Solomon admitted. "We spoke about this after the game, the Gaffer spoke with us about this.

"We shouldn't play like this, especially after how we played first half. We should have continued the same way in the second half, so we are disappointed.

"We are really disappointed. We wanted to take much more from this game. We were 1-0 up and played really well first half. I don't know what happened in the second half.

"We're really disappointed with the result, and the performance in the second half."

The quality of the opening goal suggested we could be in for a great afternoon on the south coast, with Solomon heavily involved in the slick passing move.

"[Marco Silva] always wants us to play in behind, he asks for the wingers to get in behind," he explained. "When Vini got the ball, I saw a clean space, and then it was a great pass by Harrison Reed, and a great finish by Andreas.

"It was a lovely move, a team goal, a great goal by ourselves. And after this goal we played even better, we dominated the game, our build up was good, we were just missing the last part near the box.

"We should have played the same way in the second half, and I don't know why we didn't."

It's four consecutive defeats now for the lads, but Solomon knows his side have it in themselves to return to form for the final 10 fixtures of the campaign.

"It's been a great season by us, but the last few games weren't the best, so we want to continue the same way we did in the beginning and middle of the season, and not like in the last four games.

"We need to analyse what we've done wrong, we need to get better, to improve, and to play the same way we played a few weeks ago."

Fulham, Newcastle United, West Ham all keen on Burnley loan ace with Clarets also eyeing summer move

On loan Burnley defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis has garnered interest from Brentford, Fulham, Newcastle United, and West Ham, according to 90min.

Harwood-Bellis has been immense for Vincent Kompany so far this season after arriving on loan from Manchester City in the summer.

The 21-year-old has played 30 times for Burnley in all competitions this season and has been a key reason to why Burnley are the runaway leaders in the Championship. Harwood-Bellis had previously missed three months with a foot injury but returned to play the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Sunderland last time out.

With Burnley destined to return to the top flight next season, it's no surprise that Kompany would have wanted the centre-back to return, with the report from 90min claiming that Burnley are hoping to bring him back to Turf Moor next season either on loan or permanently.

But the Clarets look set to face a tough challenge with Brentford, Fulham, Newcastle United, and West Ham all reportedly considering a summer swoop for Harwood-Bellis too.

Harwood-Bellis' next move?
Harwood-Bellis' season at Turf Moor has grown his reputation in English football, with the England U21 captain impressing Premier League sides and doing his chances of succeeding at the Etihad Stadium no damage.

However, given City's defensive talent the Stockport-born youngster may find it tough winning a place under Pep Guardiola, but a second loan spell at Burnley next season could give him the Premier League experience that could improve his chances at City.

Harwood-Bellis returned on Friday night in place of January signing Hjalmar Ekdal who was left out of the starting line-up. The centre-back issues could cause problems for Kompany in the summer, with Jordan Beyer also only on loan although a permanent swoop has been reported.

Burnley travel to Middlesbrough on Friday, with kick-off at 8pm.

Fulham, Brentford and West Ham linked with summer transfer swoop for Man City defender

Latest news on the transfer front involving Fulham, West Ham and Brentford emerges

Fulham, West Ham and Brentford have been credited with an interest in Burnley loanee Taylor Harwood-Bellis. The centre-back has spent this season on loan at Turf Moor from Manchester City and has helped the Lancashire outfit rise to the top of the Championship.

According to a report by 90min, he is attracting interest from elsewhere this summer. The Clarets are keen to make his move permanent but they may have to face competition from elsewhere.

Newcastle United are said to be interested along with London trio Fulham, West Ham and Brentford. Harwood-Bellis, 21, has been on the books at the Etihad Stadium since the age of six.

The Stockport-born man has risen up through the academy at City and has made eight first-team appearances for Pep Guardiola's side to date. He has also gained experience out on loan at Blackburn Rovers, Anderlecht and Stoke City in the past.

Burnley came calling last year and he has since established himself as a key player for the second tier table toppers. They are well on their way to promotion but will have to see off other clubs if they are to snap up Harwood-Bellis on a long-term deal at the end of this term.

Fulham, Newcastle United keen on Lee Kang-in

Fulham and Newcastle United have been linked with a move for 22-year-old RCD Mallorca attacker Lee Kang-in.

A report from Fichajes claims that Newcastle United are keen on signing 22-year-old South Korean attacking midfielder Lee Kang-in from La Liga club Mallorca. But they will face competition from Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 22-year-old South Korean international has been in impressive form for La Liga club RCD Mallorca this season, scoring three goals and picking up five assists in the league. Lee Kang-in has the potential to develop into a top-class attacker, and Newcastle would certainly benefit from having a player like him at their disposal.

The South Korean international can operate as a winger on either flank and he can play as a central attacking midfielder as well. His versatility will be an added bonus for the Magpies if they manage to secure his services.

Newcastle need to add more depth to their attack, and the 22-year-old has been on their radar for a long time. The Magpies have drawn quite a few matches in the league this season, and they will be hoping to turn those draws into wins now. Signing a quality attacker who will add goals and creativity to the side will only help them win more matches next season.

Furthermore, Newcastle are well placed to secure Champions League qualification, and they will need a deeper squad to compete in the league as well as in Europe. The 22-year-old South Korean has proven his quality in La Liga, and he could be attracted to the idea of showcasing his qualities in the Premier League now. A move to Newcastle would be a step up in his career.

Newcastle have an ambitious project at their disposal, and they have the resources to compete with any club in world football. It remains to be seen whether they can fend off the competition from their Premier League rivals and agree on a deal with Mallorca.

Meanwhile, Fulham have done reasonably well this season, and they should be able to secure a top-half finish. The London club will be hoping to challenge for European qualification next season, and they need to add more quality to the squad. The South Korean would be a quality acquisition for them next season. Brighton could use more depth in their attack as well.

The Seagulls have put together a talented young squad, and the arrival of Lee Kang-in will only help from improve further. Brighton are currently pushing for European qualification, and it remains to be seen whether they can finish the season strongly.

Leeds and Fulham handed chance to sign defender – Club open to let him leave on one condition

About a month ago, reports from the French media first revealed the interest of Fulham and Leeds United in Paris Saint Germain youngster El Chadaille Bitshiabu.

Outlet Jeunes Footeux claimed the 17-year-old is 'very appreciated' by those clubs, who'd like to sign him in the summer window.

Now there's been quite a boost for Fulham and Leeds in this chase, because according to Foot Mercato, PSG are actually keen on letting Bitshiabu go.

It's said the French side have a 'specific' plan for him, which is to let him leave on a loan to gain more experience somewhere else.

The problem for Fulham and Leeds is that PSG are not interested in a permanent move. The idea is to let him go for one season, with no purchase option, and then have him back in the squad.

Foot Mercato claims interested clubs have 'already come forward', even though their names are not revealed. It's said this could be a 'win-win' situation, as long as the clubs are fine with this temporary spell.

Now it should be up to the Premier League sides to decide whether it's worth having the youngster for just one season, or whether they are better off looking elsewhere, since their plan was seemingly to make him a long-term project.

Josh Onomah impressing Preston North End boss after post-Fulham challenges

The midfielder came off the bench against Blackpool last weekend

Preston North End midfielder Josh Onomah has come in for praise from manager Ryan Lowe, given his work over the last few months.

The Lilywhites swooped in to sign the 25-year-old on a free transfer in January, following the cancellation of his contract at Premier League side Fulham. Onomah arrived with the challenge of improving his match fitness and sharpness, having barely kicked a ball in the first half of the season.

He has gone on to make six substitute appearances for PNE, along with getting some valuable minutes and goals under his belt in the Central League. His latest outing in Preston colours came off the bench against Blackpool - a brilliant day for North End, who won 3-1 against their arch-rivals. The progress of the former Tottenham Hotspur man, in recent weeks, has impressed the PNE boss.

"Yeah, he has been fantastic Josh," said Lowe. "He was going to come on a little bit earlier (vs Blackpool), but we were just a bit cautious of changing too early. Unfortunately, for Josh, he is six weeks too late in terms of his fitness. But, he knows that and he is going to keep giving himself the best possible chance to keep shining. And he is going to be used, again, over the next few weeks.

"The games are coming thick and fast and credit where credit is due, to Josh. He has been fantastic in his attitude and application, and now you can see what he has got. He is strong, he's powerful, he's lean and he's fitter. He just wasn't that when he came through the door; we've had to build him up."

Onomah's future is somewhat unclear, given that he only signed a short-term deal until the end of the season. The player spoke about making Deepdale a home following his arrival, and Lowe is focused on getting the best out of Onomah from now until the end of the current season.

"Yeah, it's like most of them isn't it?" said Lowe, when asked if he sees Onomah as someone who could be a big part of his plans moving forward. "You have just got to worry about the next one and the next week. But listen, Josh's quality is unquestionable. If you saw him in training, sometimes it is the 'wow factor'. We have got to get him up to speed and we are just doing that now. Hopefully, he can get a game in again pretty soon and we can showcase what he's got - because he has definitely got the talent."
