Silva wants Willian to stay
Fulham head coach Marco Silva has made keeping Brazilian winger Willian at Craven Cottage 'a priority' ahead of the summer.

The 34 year-old former Chelsea and Arsenal wide man signed for the Whites on a short-term deal in September after cancelling his contract with Corinthians and has rolled back the years with consistently excellent displays that have made a regular as Fulham have thrived in the top flight. The Brazilian international, who told UOL yesterday that wants to end his career in England, has attracted the attention of major European sides since shining in SW6 but Silva was adamant that he wants to retain Willian's services for next season.

The Fulham boss told his pre-match press conference before Monday's meeting with Leicester City:

"I definitely want him to stay. He is a priority for us to renew. Of course he has been pleased with this season, like I have been with him, as we as a club have been with him. He has been an important part of our squad and I know that he is pleased and happy here.

He feels really good. He knows that he has helped us but at the same time we have helped him to be at his best level again and enjoy football again and to be an important part of the squad like he has been. He has been fantastic, he has been brilliant for us this season. It has been so, so good to see him perform at his level, home or away it does not matter.

Sometimes like in the last match against Liverpool he did not have the ball so much, but the way he has an impact on some moments of the match, creating some dangerous moments, one of our biggest chances for us, on the counter-attack. He is a top player, a class player. We are pleased to have him with us. Every single day he works so hard to perform at that level and it is really important in every match to have him at his best level because we are stronger with him."

The wily winger has scored three goals – and made four more – in 26 appearances since signing for Fulham.

Leno eyes three more wins
Bernd Leno wants to Fulham to finish their fine first campaign back in the top flight in style by breaking the club's record Premier League points haul.

The German international has targeted three wins from Fulham's final four fixtures in order to reach Marco Silva's target of overhauling the 53 points earned by Roy Hodgson's 2008/09 side.

Leno told Fulham's official website:

"The head coach said after the Liverpool game that we've got four finals to go. You could see against City, against Liverpool, we are not preparing for holidays or whatever, we want to give something back to the fans because their support was amazing. Also, there's still the Club record to beat. We need three wins, which is ambitious but not impossible. We have two home games, we play at Old Trafford and we know what happened at Old Trafford a couple of months ago.

Good challenges and we are looking forward to it, and let's see what will happen at the end of the season. I think it's been a great season, from all of us. For me personally as well, I'm very happy with my performances. We can be happy, we can be proud with what we've achieved this season. We were not even close to the relegation battle, that was the main target. The way we played was very impressive, but we still have four games to go. We'll try to win all of them to give the fans something back, because they've been amazing."

Leno knows that getting the first win of those three wins will not be easy against Leicester City, who are battling against the drop, on Bank Holiday Monday.

"It's two completely different situations but we had that the other week against Leeds. They are fighting for their lives, but we still beat them 2-1, we dominated them, so we will prepare the same as we did against Leeds. It will probably be a similar game, and we're playing for the three points because we want to win. We're playing at home, where we deserved more in the last game. We have to get the win, nothing else."

Marco Silva delighted to prove Fulham's doubters wrong with fine campaign

Fulham boss Marco Silva is feeling smug about his side's Premier League position after recalling pre-season predictions that they were destined for relegation.

This might be one of the closest survival battles in recent memory, but last season's Championship winners are not one of the teams worrying about a potentially heart-breaking end to the campaign.

Instead, Silva's men are 10th, maintaining their top-half status despite picking up just seven points in their last 10 league contests.

He said: "You have to be pleased. You have to be really proud, because I knew what everyone was saying at the beginning of the season about Fulham. I knew we were the favourites (to be relegated).

"Some people even without a doubt said we will be the first ones to get relegated, and of course we have to be pleased. Not because of what the people said, because they have to comment, they have to give their opinions, but much more for ourselves.

"Firstly for our fans because the last two seasons in the Premier League they were really tough for them, and they deserve much more, and the other because I believe, and I said from the last days of last season that I felt that this football club belongs in the Premier League and we showed that during the season."

In Leicester, Fulham face an opponent in a very different fight from leaders Manchester City and Europe-chasing Liverpool, who got the better of Silva's side in their most recent meetings, but the Portuguese intends to approach Monday's meeting with the same overall philosophy.

He said: "In terms of preparation nothing is different. We always prepare ourselves the same way, with different strategies, of course.

"Against City we knew that we probably wouldn't have the ball as often as we would like, Liverpool more or less the same thing even if they are slightly different.

"And against Leicester of course playing at the Cottage we are going to try to have control of the game even though you know you are going to face a team with a lot of quality around the pitch.

"It will be a different game definitely than the previous two matches but it will be a tough game in the same way. The approach will be the same. We are going to prepare ourselves to be at our best level."

How do Fulham do the double over Leicester City?

Jack Stroudley looks ahead to our Bank Holiday fixture against the Foxes.

Another week, another dubious penalty decision, and another defeat for Fulham, which now makes it three losses on the bounce. Despite all of that though, we still find ourselves comfortably in the top half and are now heading into the final month of the season with a decent run of games (on paper). The first of those come on Monday when we welcome Leicester City, a side who despite having quality across the board, only sit outside the relegation zone on goal difference. We narrowly beat the Foxes back in January, but how do we go about it again?

The opposition
As mentioned previously, Leicester are blessed with some quality talent with the likes of Youri Tielemans, Jamie Vardy and James Maddison all playing under the newly-appointed Dean Smith. Since replacing Brendan Rodgers, Dean Smith has picked up five points out of a possible nine with results against Wolves, Leeds and Everton.

Statistically, Leicester have been quite good going forward in those three games, with an overall xG in those games of 8.39 scored while also being relatively sloppy at the back with an xG of 6.18 conceded. The former Premier League champions will be strengthened further with the return of Ricardo Pereira.

How do we prepare?
Marco rotated slightly in midweek bringing in the likes of Cedric Soares and Sasa Lukic, given our admirable performance at Anfield (despite the narrow loss) here's how I'd start on Monday.

The first change would be in defence bringing in Kenny Tete to replace Cedric Soares and while the Portuguese defender played OK in midweek, we are always stronger with Kenny Tete.

I would also keep with Vinicius, who has been relatively impressive over the last week with solid performances against Manchester City and Liverpool, Leicester aren't the most aggressive of sides so the Brazilian could cause some issues.

The main change is in midfield where Harrison Reed comes in for Tom Cairney. This is nothing against Cairney; he has been very good over the course of the season, but I don't think he's got the legs to play a full 90. Lukic was OK in midweek and a few more starts will do him the world of good and allowing him to play in a midfield with two other workhorses (Palhinha and Reed) will enable him to shine brighter. Furthermore, Cairney is going to be more effective off the bench than either Reed or Lukic and could give some needed creativity later on in the game.

The final verdict
I'm actually very confident going into this one. Leicester's xG has indicated that despite being good going forward they are quite wasteful and Bernd Leno has proven once already this season he has Leicester's number. Vinicius seems to be finding his feet with a run of games and the return of Willian boosts us going forward even more. The Foxes have a lot more to play for and while they'll be up for it, I think this will be a routine day at the office. Fulham 2-0 Leicester.

Liverpool told £60m target's 'head could be turned' by transfer as Reds battle five teams for midfielder

Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha could reportedly have his "head turned" if Liverpool pursue a move for the Premier League breakout star.

The Portugal international was one of the players who joined Fulham last summer ahead of their return to the Premier League. They paid around £20m to sign him from Sporting Lisbon.

Fulham have surpassed expectations this season as they have spent much of the campaign in the top half and Palhinha has been a sensation at Craven Cottage.

The 27-year-old has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this term and his performances have caught the attention of Fulham's rivals.

Liverpool are in the market for new midfielders and they are among the clubs interested in him. Journalist Dean Jones thinks Palhinha will need to be "guaranteed games" in order for his "head to be turned".

"Links with Palhinha began when Liverpool started to show a bit of interest and now the list of clubs linked to him is growing. I have spoken to contacts around Fulham about the threat of him leaving and they are relaxed," Jones told Give Me Sport.

"There has been no contact so far for them to be concerned about and actually they seem confident he will stick around for next season. I guess that is going to depend on who actually comes forward with an offer though.

"He really is extremely good in the centre of midfield and if there's a spot at a big club where he is guaranteed games then his head could be turned.

"I don't think he would settle for being a squad player, not after the impact he has had in the Premier League so far. Also we should bear in mind that a lot of his success has been down to his relationship with Marco Silva and the trust that is put in him by the manager.

"He breaks up play and gets across the park as well as anyone I have seen in the league all season, so I do expect more speculation when we get to the summer. But if we are going to guess a price it is going to take for him to be bought I think we are looking at the £50-£60 million mark."

A separate report from Football Insider claims 'Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Palhinha'.

'Tottenham, Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all interested' in the 27-year-old but Villa are 'confident that they can financially compete with the Premier League's Big Six and match any offers put forward for him'. The report adds.

'Unai Emery is understood to be a huge fan of Palhinha, and while central midfield isn't necessarily a top priority for Villa this summer, the Spaniard sees the Fulham star as a direct upgrade to his starting XI.'

'Villa owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are keen to back Emery's ambitious transfer plans in an attempt to help the club become regular challengers for the top six Premier League spots.'

Aston Villa join race to sign Joao Palhinha
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, a target for Manchester United and Tottenham.

Joao Palhinha has made an instant impact in the Premier League since his move from Sporting CP. And his performances have attracted the attention of clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur as well. A report from Football Insider claims that Aston Villa are confident of winning the race for his signature.

Palhinha has been a key player for Fulham and the London outfit will not want to sell him easily. However, Aston Villa have the financial resources to tempt them. Furthermore, a move to the West Midlands club would be a step up in the player's career.

Aston Villa have shown impressive form under new manager Unai Emery, and they are currently pushing for European qualification. Palhinha wants to play at a higher level and a move to Aston Villa would be a step up in his career.

Villa need to find a quality partner for Douglas Luiz, and the Portuguese international would be a superb acquisition. He will add defensive cover and drive to the Aston Villa midfield. The 27-year-old is one of the best tacklers in the league and he has more successful tackles than any other midfielder in the Premier League this season.

Emery is looking to put together a squad capable of challenging for major trophies, and Palhinha would certainly help Villa improve. Meanwhile, Manchester United are also looking to bring in a quality partner for Brazilian international Casemiro. And the Portuguese has been identified as a potential option.

Manchester United are certainly a far bigger club compared to Aston Villa. And the opportunity to play for them could prove to be hard to turn down for the midfielder. On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on the midfielder as well.

It seems that Palhinha could be spoilt for choice this summer, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually. Fulham are likely to demand a premium for him because of his contract situation. He has a long-term contract at the London club. It remains to be seen whether Aston Villa prepared to break the bank to secure his services.

Fulham interested in Porto's Mateus Uribe?

Fulham are reportedly interested in signing Porto midfielder Mateus Uribe.

The Cottagers may be forced to strengthen in the middle of the park this summer, with Joao Palhinha currently linked with a move away from West London.

Palhinha joined Fulham from Sporting Lisbon for an estimated £20m fee last summer, and he has gone on to establish himself as a key member of Marco Silva's side.

The Portugal international has started 31 of Fulham's 34 league games this season, chipping in with three goals.

Despite having a contract until June 2027, Palhinha is expected to attract offers during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have all been linked with the 27-year-old, who is reportedly valued at £50m by Fulham.

If Palhinha does leave the club at the end of the season then Fulham could turn to Portugal once again to find his replacement.

According to Football Insider, the West London club have identified Uribe as a potential transfer target for the summer window.

The experienced midfielder has made 47 competitive appearances for Porto this season, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

Although he is playing regularly for Sergio Conceicao's side, Uribe could leave the Portuguese giants this summer.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and as it stands, he will be available on a free transfer.

Uribe, who is comfortable playing in central and defensive midfield, would bring a wealth of top-level experience to Fulham, having competed in the Champions League and Europa League during his time with Porto.

Since joining the Portuguese club in the summer of 2019, Uribe has registered 15 goals and eight assists in 172 competitive games.

Fulham, meanwhile, are set to end the 2022-23 campaign in a respectable midtable position, and they are currently preparing for Monday's home meeting with Leicester City.

West Ham transfer news: David Moyes targets £25m Bournemouth star

West Ham United are now in a nine-way fight to secure the free transfer of AFC Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma this summer.

That is according to TEAMtalk, which reports that clubs around Europe are interested in a move for Lerma. The Bournemouth star is also now exploring his options for the future.

The 28-year-old has attracted widespread interest with his contract at Dean Court due to expire on June 30. But the Cherries are yet to give up hope of retaining the Colombian.

West Ham are in a nine-way fight to secure Jefferson Lerma's free transfer
Bournemouth are keen to convince Lerma to stay having been a virtual ever-present since his £25m arrival from Levante. But he has at least nine clubs pursuing his signature.

Signed under Eddie Howe in August 2018, the 33-cap international has played 181 games with the south coast side. He has made 34 of those appearances so far this season.

West Ham are among a clutch of Premier League clubs keen to target Lerma's transfer if he indeed leaves Bournemouth. But the Irons will face competition from two London rivals.

Crystal Palace and Fulham are monitoring Lerma's situation in case Gary O'Neil convinces the Colombian to stay put. While Leicester City and Nottingham Forest are also keen.

The Foxes' and Reds' interest will hinge on the two clubs securing their top-flight status for another year. While Lerma could look to return to La Liga with Real Betis or Villarreal.

OGC Nice and LOSC Lille would also like to try and lure Lerma to Ligue 1 should he become a free agent. It would add a new league to his CV following spells in Colombia and Spain.

Jefferson Lerma would be a huge loss for Bournemouth
Lerma would offer any potential suitor a quality defensive presence in the engine room. He can also even add a creative threat when allowed to roam in a greater box-to-box capacity.

Goals are not what makes Lerma, though, and West Ham would be pursuing the transfer of a defensive midfielder above all should David Moyes eye a deal for the Bournemouth star.

"I don't judge Jeff on goals," ex-Cherries coach Jonathan Woodgate told the Bournemouth Echo in May 2021. "You know how I feel about Jeff, I'm his biggest fan.

"I think he's unbelievable. If I can describe a six to anyone, he's my favourite. He's a six and he's magnificent.

"He gives you absolutely everything every single game – heads it, runs, tackles, passes. He's a special player for me."

Mark Lawrenson makes 'upsurge' remark in Fulham vs Leicester City prediction

Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive brings you Mark Lawrenson's prediction ahead of Premier League clash with Fulham

Leicester City are faced with another massive clash when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

Dean Smith's side will head to the capital on the back of two successive draws to relegation rivals Leeds United and Everton respectively. City are just outside the relegation zone level on 30 points with 18th placed Nottingham Forest.

A victory against the Whites would bring confidence to the Foxes ahead of fixtures against Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham on the final day. As for Fulham, they are winless in their last three games as they target a top-10 finish.

Ahead of the encounter, Mark Lawrenson has delivered his verdict, predicting City to fall short in a 2-1 defeat. "Fulham have done very well this season, and have some good players who other clubs will want," Lawrenson wrote in his Paddy Power column.

"They're a big, formidable team too and I like the way they play. Joao Palhinha in particular impressed me against Liverpool and I think a lot of clubs would take him in a heartbeat if they got the chance.

"Leicester have had bit of an upsurge with their new management structure recently. They probably thought at 2-1 up against Everton that they were going to get a vital three points, but it wasn't to be and they only drew.

"There'll be more disappointment for them this Monday I think as I fancy Fulham to win here."

Lawrenson's prediction: Fulham 2-1 Leicester City.

Fulham manager Marco Silva admits Aleksandar Mitrovic's eight game ban for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh has been 'really tough' for the striker, who will be available for the first time since March when the Cottagers travel to Southampton on Saturday

Aleksandar Mitrovic was banned for eight games after pushing Chris Kavanagh
He has still scored twice as many goals as any other Fulham player this season
Marco Silva admitted the ban had been 'really tough' for the Serbian striker

Fulham boss Marco Silva admits Aleksandar Mitrovic's spell out of the team due to a ban has been 'really tough' on the forward but is looking forward to welcoming him back after Monday's game against Leicester.

Mitrovic was banned for eight games after pushing referee Chris Kavanagh in Fulham's FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Old Trafford in March.

Fulham's game against Leicester on Monday will be the striker's final game out after his lengthy suspension, with the forward set to return to the squad for the following game against Southampton.

And Silva, who was also sent off and handed a two-game touchline ban for his response towards the officials in Fulham's FA Cup defeat, says it has been a difficult period for the Serbian international.

'It has been a tough period for him. He has been working hard, it has to be like that,' Silva explained.

When available, Aleksandar Mitrovic has been an important presence for Fulham this season

He picked up an eight game ban in March after pushing referee Chris Kavanagh during an FA Cup quarter final against Manchester United

Fulham boss Marco Silva admitted the ban had been 'really tough' for his star striker

'The mood on some days is a little bit better than the others because he knew a month-and-a-half ago he was going to be out for eight games which is really tough for any player.

'The way it has come for us, the way everything happened as well, and the treatment behind the whole scenario, it was really tough. Not just for Mitro, but for our football club. We felt something that was not good.

'We are here to support Mitro and it is up to him to keep working hard, to be the best he can be from a physical point of view. It will be good to have him again.'

Fulham host a Leicester team who are locked in a relegation battle, with the Foxes hoping to build on their point against Everton at the King Power Stadium last time out.

Silva: Suspension has been 'really tough' for Mitrovic
Marco Silva says Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic has found his eight match suspension 'really tough' to handle.

The Serbian striker will serve the final game of his ban for his Old Trafford altercation with referee Chris Kavanagh when the Whites face relegation-threatened Leicester City at Craven Cottage tomorrow afternoon before making his return at Southampton on Saturday.

Silva outlined just how hard it has been been for Fulham's top scorer to be ruled out of a critical part of the club's campaign.

"It has been a tough period for him. He has been working hard, it has to be like that. The mood on some days is a little bit better than the others because he knew a month-and-a-half ago he was going to be out for eight games which is really tough for any player.

Joao going to Villa to further his career - who writes this nonsense.  ::angry::

So pleased to read that Silva wants Willian to be at the Cottage next season ,I think most of us fans will feel the same/
Problem is other clubs will have eyes on him and be prepared to tempt him with a bigger salary  than we are paying him.
Just hope everything is being done to make him feel at home at the Cottage so that he will think twice before leaving.

I'm not sure that he is motivated by money, let's face it he probably has enough, for him now I would think it's more of can he help anymore at Fulham, he loves living in Fulham, so if he is getting satisfaction from staying he will.
