Five Goals or more

Yesterday saw only the seventh occasion we have managed 5 goals or more in a PL game out of 605 PL games played (so just over 1%). Previous canings have been against Norwich (6-0 in 2004/05 and 5-0 in 2012/13, the last and first games of the season respectively); Wolves (5-0 in 2011/12); WBA (6-1 in 2005/06); Newcastle (5-2 in 2011/12); and of course QPR (6-0 in 2011/12). All seven wins were at home (I've been fortunate enough to see six of them, missing only the WBA game).

In old Division 1 days we fared rather better with scoring 5 goals or more, managing this 14 times in 504 games (including a 5-2 against the unfortunate Leicester in 1964/65 and the 10-1 v Ipswich in 1963/64). Our time in the old top flight also included the only two occasions we have managed 5 goals away from home in a top flight game (Blackpool away in 1960/61 and Villa away in 1965/66).

And one curious stat. We have still to win a top flight game (home or away) 4-0. I briefly got my hopes up yesterday but that didn't last too long.......
