Duffy joins Norwich

Shane Duffy, who played once for Burnley against Ipswich Town while on loan from Everton, has left Fulham and signed a three-year contract with Championship club Norwich City.

It's over twelve years since that one appearance for the Clarets. He arrived on loan from Everton and went straight into the home game against Ipswich when he partnered Andre Bikey at the back. We lost 2-1; Duffy didn't play again in Eddie Howe's team. Michael Duff replaced him for the next game at Leicester which ended in a 4-0 defeat.

That was Duffy's introduction to league football. Prior to that, he'd played in two Europa League games for Everton in the previous season. Further loans at Scunthorpe and Yeovil followed and he lined up for Yeovil on the day we beat them at Huish Park in January 2014.

The following summer saw him make a permanent move to Blackburn. He was there for just over two years and left with some dramatic performances early in a season that saw our local rivals managed by Owen Coyle on their march to League One. In his final two games for them, Duffy scoed three times, all of them own goals, and got himself two yellow and one red card.

By the time the summer window closed he moved to Brighton who he finally left at the beginning of this calendar year. Surplus to requirements under their last two managers, he spent the entire 2021/22 season on loan at Celtic and last summer moved to Fulham on a season long loan.

By January, Fulham were keen to get the loan terminated. He'd made just three substitute appearances in the Premier League and no longer required. Brighton didn't recall him and so Fulham, who needed the loan slot to bring in Cedric Soares from Arsenal, were forced to make his move to Craven Cottage a permanent one to allow the Soares loan signing.

He made one more appearance, coming on as a 77th minute substitute against Leicester. Fulham won 5-3 but they led 5-1 at the time he came on.

Yesterday, he left Fulham and signed for Norwich on a three-year deal from 1st July. As was the case at Blackburn, he is expected to partner Grant Hanley in defence.

Fulham looking to lure Gray from Everton?
Fulham are contemplating a close-season move for Everton winger Demarai Gray, according to a Sky Sports report this morning.

The Whites have apparently made an enquiry about the availability of the 26 year-old, whose current contract at Goodison Park expires next summer. Everton do hold an option to trigger a twelve-month extension but it remains to be seen whether the former Leicester wide man in Sean Dyche's long-term plans after the Toffees narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League month.

Gray arrived at Everton from Bayer Leverkusen in a £1.7m deal in July 2021. He has scored twelve goals in 75 appearances for Everton, six of them coming in 36 games last term as the Blues battled against relegation. The Birmingham-born winger came through the St. Andrew's youth set up, making 78 appearances and scoring eight goals for Blues before signing for Midlands rivals Leicester for a £3.7m in January 2016.

He made fourteen appearances as Claudio Ranieri's side won the Premier League in his first season at the King Power Stadium and scored thirteen goals in 169 appearances before falling out of favour with Brendan Rodgers and not being offered a new deal. He spent six months in Germany with Leverkusen, scoring once in twelve appearances, and could be on the move again this summer with a number of Premier League sides reportedly interested in his services.

Fulham have been linked with a number of wingers since finishing tenth on their return to the top flight as Dan James is set to return to Leeds United following his loan spell at Craven Cottage and there is uncertainty surrounding the futures of Manor Solomon, currently on a short-term contract with Fulham from Shakhtar Donestsk, and Neeskens Kebano, whose contract expires at the end of June.

Fulham eyeing Fiorentina defender
Fulham are readying an offer for Fiorentina defender Igor Julio after the Brazilian was told he could leave the Viola this summer, according to reports from Italy.

Corriere dello Sport carries a report this weekend on how Vincenzo Italiano will reshape his squad after their agonising Europa Conference League defeat at the hands of West Ham United. The newspaper says that several stalwarts will leave and Julio, who has spent three seasons at the Artemio Franci, is one of the them. The 25 year-old centre half is about to enter the final year of his current contract and Fulham's persistent interest means he is likely to head to the Premier League.

Julio has made 110 appearances for Fiorentina since initially joining on loan from SPAL on a two-year loan in January 2020. He played thirty league games as finished eighth in Serie A and appeared eleven times in the Conference League, although he was only a late substitute in Prague last week. He made three appearances in the Coppa Italia as Italiano's men reached the final but was an unused substitute as they were beaten by Inter Milan.

Julio, who came through the Red Bull set-up starting in the academy of Red Bull Bragantino II before moving to Red Bull Leipzig, is rumoured to be valued at around £9.5m by I Gigliati but Fulham appear confident of concluding a cheaper deal. The Whites are seeking swift central defensive reinforcements with Tim Ream recovering from a fractured arm and Shane Duffy set to join Norwich City next month.

Kieran's Fulham summer shortlist: Defenders
Kieran turns his attention to who may help Marco Silva supplement his defensive resources as Fulham prepare for their second season in the top flight for the first time in more than a decade.

Right Back

The Whites will be looking for a right back with the potential to break into the first team after the rather disastrous acquisition of Kevin Mbabu, even if the Swiss international did provide a peach of cross for Aleksandar Mitrovic to beat Brentford back in August. Here are five possibilities to push King Kenny Tete all the way.

Matheuzinho
Age: 22
Nationality: Brazilian
Club: Flamengo
Value: £6.5m

A brilliant Brazilian full back who appears cut from the same cloth as Tete. Offensively minded, Matheuzinho is an excellent creator of chances along the right flank and has the rapid pace required to fly up and down the wing. He seems tailor-made to thrive under Silva if Fulham can lure another young talent away from Flamengo.

Playing style:
* Attacking full-back who loves to get into the opposition's final third

Strengths;
+ Crossing
+ Pace
+ Quick feet
+ Heading
+ Tackling
+ Awareness

Weaknesses:
– Can overplay at times
– Aggression.

Sergiño Dest
Age: 22
Nationality: American
Club: FC Barcelona
Value: £10m

How about two American international full backs at Craven Cottage rather than just Mr. Robinson? Dest appears destined to leave Barcelona this summer but the Catalonians have yet to receive an offer for the 22 year-old, who endured a desperately disappointing loan stint at AC Milan – making only fourteen appearances – last term. The former Jong Ajax graduate has pedigree and Champions' League experience and could be a cut-price option with Barcelona looking to raise funds.

Playing style:
* Likes to dribble
* Plays short passes

Strengths:
+ Keeping hold of possession
+ Passing
+ Dribbling
+ Concentration

Weaknesses:
– Crossing
– Aerial duels
– Finishing
– Defensive diligence

Gonzalo Montiel

Age: 26.
Nationality: Argentinian
Club: Sevilla.
Value: £10m

This is an ambitious one as Sevilla would require some persuading to part with the spot-kick specialist who helped his country win the World Cup and his club claim another Europa League title from twelve yards in the past seven months. The Argentinian international has been heavily linked with a move to England in the past and was the subject of several attempts to lure him to Serie A after his World Cup success. Sevilla usually move on at least one star each summer – so it could be worth an optimistic enquiry.

Playing style:

* Plays short passes
* Stays on his feet

Strengths:
+ Key passes
+ Blocking the ball

Weaknesses;
– Tackling
– Discipline

Matt Doherty

Age: 31.
Nationality: Irish.
Club: Atletico Madrid.
Value: Free

The former Wolves wing-back would welcome a return to England after being released by Atletico Madrid, having failed to impress Diego Simeone. Doherty, who also struggled at Spurs after leaving Molineux, played just sixteen minutes in Spain and is now seeking to revive his career. Fulham have had success with experienced free agents in recent times (think Willian) and appear to have dropped the no new signings aged 28 rule that used to govern their recruitment. The Irish international was a forward-thinking right back at Wolves and could provide real competition for Tottenham.

Playing style:

Playing style:

* Attacking full back who doesn't dive into tackles

Strengths:

+ Aerial Duels
+ Passing
+ Key passes
+ Interceptions

Weaknesses:

– One-on-ones

Central defenders

The Whites will need at least two centre backs with Tim Ream recovering from his fractured arm and doubts about Tosin Adarabioyo's future. Further cover could even be necessary after the departure of Shane Duffy at the end of his short-term deal. Balance will be vital as Issa Diop looked more than a little uncomfortable deputising for Ream on the left side of central defence.

Gonçalo Inácio
Age: 21
Nationality: Portuguese
Club: Sporting CP
Value: £20m

Could Marco Silva raid Sporting for a second successive summer? Inácio has already amassed extraordinary experience for a 21 year-old and enjoyed a dream breakthrough in the first team as the Lions ended their nineteen year title drought by winning the Primeira Liga in 2021. The left-footed centre half helped Sporting to back-to-back Taca de Liga trophies and has made 119 senior appearances for the club. He made his senior debut for Portugal in Roberto Martinez's first game in charge – a comfortable win over Liechtenstein in March, where he was paired with a certain Joao Palhinha in central defence during the second half. Plenty of clubs covet the ball-playing youngster, who has spoken before of a desire to test himself in England.

Playing style:
* Ball-playing centre back

Strengths:
+ Passing
+ Concentration

Weaknesses:
– Aerial Duels

Mario Hermoso

Age: 27
Nationality: Spanish
Club: Atletico Madrid,
Value: £16m

Hermoso was apparently close to joining Nottingham Forest on loan in January and could well be on the move this summer as he enters the final year of his current contract at the Wanda Metropolitano. A cultured graduate of the Real Madrid academy, the 27 year-old left-sided defender has made 129 appearances since joining Atleti from Espanyol four years ago. He was an integral part of Diego Simeone's La Liga winning side in 2019/20 but has dropped down the pecking order since – although he featured far more regularly in the second half of last season. A reliable centre half with the ability to deputise at left back, the Spanish international could prove an excellent addition.

Playing style
* Can play raking forward balls
* Comfortable with the ball at his feet
* Penchant for dribbling

Strengths:
+ Keeping possession
+ Passing

Weaknesses:
– Crossing
– Discipline

Igor Zubeldia

Age: 25
Nationality: Spanish,
Club: Real Sociedad
Value: £20m

Any side seeking to tempt Zubeldia away from the Anoeta will need to show La Real the money after the 25 year-old put pen to paper on a new deal last summer. The Sociedad academy graduate, who signed for the White and Blues aged eleven, initially broke into the senior squad as a defensive midfielder but has become a fixture at centre back. Zubeldia, who won the European under-21 championship with Spain four years ago, has passed 200 senior appearances for the club and was a key part of the side that won the Copa del Ray in 2020. Interestingly, the Azkoitia native has been learning English to prepare for a potential move.

Playing style:
* Plays short passes
* Will commit tactical fouls

Strengths;
+ Concentration

Weaknesses;
– Can over play at the back on occasion

Nino
Age: 26
Nationality: Brazilian,
Club: Fluminense,
Value: £7m

Perhaps Nino is the archetypal Brazilian centre back, with a penchant for passing, and excellent reading of the game. He has been a key figure for Fluminese, whom he joined initially on loan from Criciúma in 2019 before signing permanently the following year. He assumed the club captaincy last season and has won consecutive Carioca championships. He played every minute of Brazil's Olympic Games success in 2020 – helping his country win their second gold medal – and was on standby for the senior side before last year's World Cup.

Playing style:
* Plays out from the back – preferring short passes

Strengths:
+ Passing
+ Concentration

Weaknesses:
– None

Vitão
Age: 23, Foot: Right, Nationality: Brazilian, Club: Shakhtar Donetsk, Value: €7 Million

This Brazilian centre back could be on the move this summer as he is in a similar situation to Manor Solomon. Vitão returned to his homeland to join Internacional on loan from Shakhtar following the FIFA ruling and will be an attractive proposition to plenty of suitors this summer given his attributes as versatility as the 23 year-old is comfortable in central defence, at right back or as a defensive midfielder. He mixes excellent reading of the game with real physicality and several English sides have been scouting him this year.

Playing style:

* Keen on clearing the ball from defence.

Strengths;
+ Passing
+ Tackling
+ Pace
+ Concentration
+ Marking
+ Natural fitness
+ Aggression
+ Interceptions
+ Aerial duels.

Weaknesses;
– No significant weaknesses

Tiago Djaló
Age: 23
Nationality: Portuguese
Club: Lille
Value: £13.75m

Marco Silva will know Djaló well from his time with Sporting, where he was a highly-rated member of the Lions' youth set up when the Fulham boss was in charge of the senior side. The 23 year-old started seventeen games as Lille landed the Ligue 1 for the first time a decade and then starred as they beat Paris Saint-Germain to win the Trophee des Champions in Tel Aviv the following August. The Amadora-born defender scored twice in 25 league appearances this season and is reportedly on the radar of a number of continental clubs as heads into the final year of his contract.

Playing style
* Confident in possession

Strengths:
+ Passing
+ Tackling

Weaknesses:
– Aerial duels

Edgar Gonzalez
Age: 26,
Nationality: Spanish
Club: Real Betis
Value: £8.5m

I believe the Spanish enforcer Edgar Gonzalez would be a real Marco Silva type signing as a no-nonsense sort of centre half.
Part of Los Verdiblancos side that won the Copa del Ray last season, the right-sided centre back got his footballing education at Cornelia and Espanyol before joining Betis five years ago. He has become a first team regular since a strong loan spell in the second tier with Real Oviedo and can also operate as a defensive midfielder.

Playstyle;
* Likes to play short passes
* Clears the ball out of defence often

Strengths;
+ Passing
+ Tackling

Weaknesses;
– None

Igor Julio

Age: 25
Nationality: Brazilian
Club: Fiorentina
Value: £10m

The cultured Brazilian centre back has been a star since being brought into the Fiorentina starting line-up by Vincenzo Italiano after the World Cup. Julio starred as I Viola reached the Europa Conference League final and has already been linked with a possible move to Craven Cottage. He has been told he can leave Fiorentina this weekend and the Whites are the front runners for his signature.

Playing style:

* Comfortable in possession

Strengths:

+ Physically strong
+ Dribbling
+ Long-range passing

Weaknesses:

– Awareness
– Positioning
– Occasional over-confidence

Left back

Confirmation yesterday that Joe Bryan will be leaving the club at the end of the month means Fulham will be seeking cover for Antonee Robinson at left back. The new arrival will need to prove more successful that the injury-prone Layvin Kurzawa.

Nuno Tavares

Age: 23
Nationality: Portugal
Club: Arsenal
Value: £15.5m

The Portuguese link means Silva would be aware of ex-Benfica left back and he could be a low-cost squad filler potentially on loan, but I prefer some of the other names on the list as a possible challenger to Antonee Robinson. The former Portuguese under-21 international enjoyed an encouraging loan spell at Marseille last season and could be available again.

Playing style:
* Likes to dribble along the left flank

Strengths;
+ Dribbling

Weaknesses;
– Concentration
– Aerial duels
– Retaining possession
– Tackling

Angelino
Age: 26
Nationality: Spanish
Club: RB Leipzig
Value: £11.5m

Plenty of Premier League sides are reportedly keen on bringing the former Manchester City youngster back to England. Angelino would qualify as a homegrown player under both the Premier League and UEFA rules and has shone in Germany, with his adventurous play from left back allied with excellent crossing ability. The Spaniard could also slot in as a winger as well.

Playing style:
* Loves to get crosses in
* Plays lofted, forward balls
* Stays on his feet

Strengths;
+ Crossing
+ Key passes
+ Set-piece specialist

Weaknesses;
– Aerial duels
– Tackling

Alfonso Pedraza
Age: 27
Nationality: Spanish
Club: Villarreal
Value: £12.7m

Pedraza is every inch the modern full back: he began his career as a winger and still relishes going forward from left back and can whip in a good cross. He's developed into a diligent defender and has experience of English football, having made seventeen appearances during a 2017 loan spell with Leeds. Pedraza, who helped Villarreal win the Europa League in 2021, had loan stints with Alaves and Betis in recent campaigns but made 29 appearances in all competitions as El Submarino Amarillo finished fifth in La Liga last term.

Playing style:
* A keen dribbler
* Looks for short passes
* Loves to cross
* Stays on his feet

Strengths:
+ Key passes
+ Dribbling
+ Interceptions

Weaknesses:

– Retaining possession under pressure

Zaidu Sanusi
Age: 25
Nationality: Nigerian
Club: FC Porto
Value: £8.7m

Fulham failed to meet Porto's valuation for the Nigerian international last summer but they could try again this year as the Financial Fair Play picture is far brighter now that the 2018 spending splurge has disappeared from the calculations. The cultured left back has spent his entire senior career in Portugal, winning the league and Cup double with Porto in 2022, but he made only eighteen league appearances under Sérgio Conceição this season as the Dragons were pipped to the title by Benfica.

Playing style:
* Looks for options on the ball

Strengths:
+ Passing
+ Keeping possession
+ Concentration

Weaknesses;
– Tackling

Borna Sosa
Age: 25
Nationality: Croatian
Club: VfB Stuttgart
Value: £12m

The Croatian international has a host of English admirers having been linked with Leeds United, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Arsenal over the past year. Sosa, once again one of the most consistent crossers in the Bundesliga last season, looks set to leave Stuttgart this summer having reportedly said goodbye to his team-mates last week amid rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham before the appointment of Ange Postecoglou. He would be a serious signing as he is much more consistent with his deliveries than Robinson.

Playing style:
* Loves to cross
* Favours a long-range shot
* Doesn't dive into tackles

Strengths:
+ Crossing
+ Key passes
+ Set-piece specialist
+ Passing
+ Keeping possession

Weaknesses:
– Finishing
– Defensive decision-making
– Tackling

Caio Henrique

Age: 25
Nationality: Brazilian
Club: AS Monaco
Value: £18m

I'm not afraid to admit that Caio Henrique is a firm favourite of mine. I'd have him as one of the most underrated left backs in world football, even though he contributed ten assists with Monaco last term. He managed 13 assists in 49 games in 2021/2022 and fits the profile of an adventurous full-back who comes alive in the final third. Aleksandar Mitrovic would thrive on Henrique's quality of service, but the problem will be winning the race for the Brazilian's signature.

Playing style:

* Loves to get forward
* Lofts in consistently high-quality crosses

Strengths:

+ Key passes
+ Set-piece specialist
+ Crossing
+ Keeping possession
+ Passing
+ Blocking the ball
+ Concentration

Leeds: Scott Parker may emerge as dark horse contender
Leeds United are looking for a new manager and former Fulham boss Scott Parker has emerged as a contender for the position.

Leeds United are on the lookout for a new manager and Scott Parker is a name that people are 'continuing to link' to the vacancy at Elland Road, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest news involving Leeds United's hunt for a new manager?
According to Phil Hay, who is a journalist for The Athletic, Parker has been 'internally discussed' at Leeds United in connection with their managerial position.

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Jones thinks that despite doubts over his long-term suitability as Leeds United's potential new manager, Parker will continue to remain among the leading contenders for the role.

Jones told FFC: "There's some dark horses that have recently been mentioned, like Scott Parker. I think that Leeds would be reticent about Parker because perhaps they saw what he did in the Premier League and wonder whether he's the right long-term name and has enough experience and pedigree, but he's nonetheless a name that people are continuing to link."

Who is the right man to take Leeds United forward?
Realistically, it is difficult to guess who Leeds United chiefs may fancy to take on the challenge of guiding them out of the Sky Bet Championship at the first time of asking, which has prompted a list of candidates from wide-ranging backgrounds that has circulated among the media.

Brendan Rodgers has emerged as a contender for the job and it is believed that he is on the shortlist to take over at Elland Road, as per The Daily Star.

Daniel Farke has also come into the conversation and is among the bookmakers favourites to land the role; however, it is unclear whether he would be genuinely considered by Leeds United, as per The Yorkshire Post.

Whoever Leeds United turn to will have a lot on their plate as they gear their new side up for 2023/24, with much change expected at the Yorkshire outfit on and off the pitch.

Fulham showing interest in player, good chance of deal – Contract situation would 'favour a transfer'

Fulham are showing interest in Fiorentina defender Igor, who is keen to leave the Italian side this summer.

That's according to Corriere dello Sport, relayed by Calciomercato, who say the Brazilian is 'one of the first candidates' to leave the Europa Conference League finalists.

They explain that the defender is keen to find a new experience outside of Italy, having been in the country since 2019 since a move to SPAL from RB Salzburg.

He joined Fiorentina in 2020, initially on loan before the move was made permanent for €6m in July 2021 and has been a regular for them in the last three years, making 110 appearances in total.

The last of those was in the Europa Conference League final defeat to West Ham after which the player left directly for Brazil from Prague rather than travelling back to Florence.

He is now keen to move on from the club and 'there is interest' from Fulham, with the player's contract situation working in their favour.

His current deal expires in 2024 so Fiorentina need to sell this summer rather than lose him on a free and this would 'favour a transfer'.

There is no mention of what Fulham would have to pay to get a deal over the line, but their interest in the 25-year-old is there nonetheless as they look to strengthen Marco Silva's squad.

Former Chelsea and Fulham prospect joins Europa Conference League outfit

Haverfordwest County have recruited two new players ahead of their Europa Conference League campaign.

The Bluebirds have signed up Martell Taylor-Crossdale and Tyrese Owen for the 2023/24 campaign. Both players had been playing in the non-league of England last season but will now look forward to joining the West Wales side for the upcoming season after both penning one-year deals.

Taylor-Crossdale was at Metropolitan Police last year, having also been at Weymouth and Gloucester City, Hendon. The 23-year-old was previously on the books of Chelsea and Fulham and was an FA Youth Cup winner, as well as a two-time Under-18 winner with the Blues.

The former QPR trialist has already had experience of playing in Europe having scored two goals in six appearances in the UEFA Youth League. He made one senior appearance for Fulham in August 2019 and was a former teammate of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Reiss Nelson, and Japhet Tanganga.

"We're extremely pleased to get Martell signed," said first-team manager Tony Pennock on the official club website.

"We had talks this time last season, however, it didn't quite work out for one reason or another, but we managed to work things out this time around.

"He's a player who has a fantastic record right the way through the England age groups, but for one reason or another had lost his way slightly in recent years.

"We're hoping we can kickstart his career again with us, and allow him to show the potential he certainly has."

Midfielder Tyrese Owen is also heading to the Bridge Meadow, having spent time with Slough Town last year. The 23-year-old made 33 appearances for Kingstonian and got 10 goals last season before signing dual terms with the National League South outfit.

His other clubs include Hemel Hempstead, Haringey Borough, and Carshalton Athletic, and in December 2022 he was a reported transfer target for Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday.

Pennock added: "His path into football was slightly different, he didn't come through an academy system as such. But, he has spent time out in Sweden, which speaks volumes of his attitude and commitment.

"Height is an area we aren't particularly blessed in, so Tyrese will certainly help the team out in that regard.

"Having lost some experience this summer, it was important we went some way to rectifying this, and Tyrese coming in will help to do just that."

Joao Palhinha could replace Arsenal target Declan Rice at West Ham

West Ham have reportedly identified Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha as a potential replacement for Declan Rice, who could soon be on his way to London rivals Arsenal

West Ham are ready to raid Fulham as they prepare for life without inspirational captain Declan Rice.

Just hours after the midfielder lifted the Europa Conference League trophy in Prague, Hammers chairman David Sullivan confirmed Rice had played his final game for the club.

 Sullivan told talkSPORT: "I think it has to be [his final game]. We promised him he could go. He set his heart on going. You can't ask for a man who has committed more to us this season.

"In due course, he has to get on and we have to get a replacement - or several replacements. It's not something we want to happen. We offered him £200,000-a-week 18 months ago. He turned it down.

"It's cost him £10million to stay at West Ham in that time [in lost wages]. And he wants to go. You can't keep a player who doesn't want to be there."

Arsenal are thought to be Rice's most likely destination, while Manchester United and Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest. The fee, which could be a British transfer record, will allow the Hammers to strengthen significantly.

 And they have identified Fulham's Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to talkSPORT. The Portugal international, 27, is believed to have a release clause, which was inserted in his contract when he arrived in London from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

However, the Hammers could face competition for Palhinha's signature, with both United and Liverpool being credited with an interest earlier this year. The latter's interest may have cooled following their acquisition of Brighton's World Cup-winning midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister.

It is unclear what Palhinha's release fee is, but the sale of Rice will leave the Hammers' in a strong position financially as they look to build on their first major trophy in 43 years and improve on their disappointing 14th-placed finish in the Premier League.

O'Neill heads home to Fulham
Ollie O'Neill has completed a successful loan spell with League of Ireland outfit Derry City and will head back to Fulham in time for pre-season training after linking up with the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad this week.

The intelligent midfielder, who skippered Steve Wigley's under-21 side last term, scored once in nineteen games with the Candystripes and signed off with a substitute appearance in a scoreless stalemate with Bohemians on Friday evening. The 20 year-old will join Jim Crawford's squad for three summer international friendlies in Austria before a brief break ahead of reporting for duty at Motspur Park ahead of the new season.

The Ealing-born attacking midfielder is regarded as one of Fulham's brightest prospects and turned down interest from a number of leading English sides to sign a professional contract with the Whites last summer. Derry boss Ruaidhri Higgins hailed his impact at Brandywell after the frustrating draw with Bohs, which saw the home side denied a clear penalty in stoppage time, and it remains to be seen whether O'Neill will gain further experience of senior football on loan in the coming campaign.

Fulham will make Igor Julio offer imminently
Fulham have held positive discussions with the representatives of Fiorentina centre back Igor Julio and will make an offer for the Brazilian centre back shortly, according to reports in Italy.

The 25 year-old has been told he can leave the Europa Conference League finalists this summer and Italian sports daily Corriere dello Sport claims that Julio is keen to move to England having spent the last four years in Italy. Journalist Lorenzo Lepore revealed earlier this evening that the Whites remain the most concrete option for Julio, with Villarreal and Nice apparently tracking the centre half's availability.

Fiorentina are keen to cash in on Fulham's interest with Julio about to enter the final twelve months of his contract at the Viola. The Minas Gerais-born defender has made 110 appearances for Fiorentina since signing from SPAL, initially on loan, in January 2020. He had fallen down Vincenzo Italiano's pecking order but finished the season strongly at the Artemio Franci, making 44 appearances in all competitions as I Gigliati finished eighth in Serie A and were beaten both by West Ham in the Conference League final and Inter in the Coppa Italia final.

Marco Silva has spoken of the need to make swift summer signings as he looks to built on the momentum Fulham generated by finishing tenth on their return to the Premier League and the Cottagers head coach is eager to strengthen at centre back.

Crystal Palace, Fulham to battle for Viktor Gyokeres?

 Crystal Palace and Fulham are reportedly set to battle it out for the signature of Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international is attracting interest from the Premier League after enjoying a successful campaign with the Sky Blues.

Gyokeres scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 46 Championship appearances, helping his side finish in fifth place.

The Sky Blues progressed to the playoff final, but they missed out on promotion, losing to Luton Town in the final on penalties.

After failing to win promotion to the top flight with Coventry, Gyokeres is believed to be eyeing a move to a Premier League club this summer.

According to Football Insider, Palace and Fulham are both preparing to submit offers for the striker during the summer transfer window.

After ending the 2022-23 campaign in 11th and 10th place respectively, Palace and Fulham are looking to build upon their midtable finishes.

Palace can already call upon Odsonne Edouard and Jordan Ayew, but there is uncertainty surrounding the futures of Wilfried Zaha and Jean-Phillipe Mateta.

Zaha is out of contract at the end of June and is yet to make a decision on his future, while Mateta is reportedly seeking a summer departure after starting just six games last term.

Fulham, meanwhile, are short of alternatives to first-choice striker Aleksandr Mitrovic, who racked up 14 goals in 24 league games in the 2022-23 season.

Carlos Vinicius and Rodrigo Muniz are also on Fulham's books, but the latter recently returned from a loan spell with Middlesbrough, and it remains to be seen if he features in Marco Silva's plans.

Palace and Fulham could face further competition for Gyokeres, with Everton, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers all said to be among his admirers.

A recent report also claimed that Rangers and Sporting Lisbon are showing an interest in the striker, who has 12 months left on his contract.

During his time with Coventry, Gyokeres has featured in 116 games across all competitions, scoring 43 goals and providing 17 assists.

'No release clause' in Palhinha's contract
Fulham vice chairman and director of football Tony Khan has taken to Twitter to quash Talksport's breathless reporting of a potential release clause in Joao Palhinha's contract.

The Wireless ownership group radio station quickened pulses amongst the Fulham fanbase this afternoon by claiming that the Portuguese international had a clause in his Craven Cottage contract that would make it easier for West Ham to sign the defensive midfielder, who starred in his first campaign in the Premier League after his £17m switch from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

Palhinha had publicly spoken of his intention to stay with the Whites last weekend but several English outlets, including the Daily Mail and the Guardian, ran stories last week suggesting that the Hammers' Europa Conference League triumph would make it easier for the Hammers to lure their 'top target' to the London Stadium. The Whites are preparing to play hardball with any suitors for their key players over the summer with their only intention being to strengthen Marco Silva's squad for their second season in the top flight.

Palhinha has another four years to run on his Fulham deal, with the Cottagers holding an option to trigger a further twelve-month extension. The 27 year-old was the leading tackler in the English top flight last season and scored four goals in forty appearances as the Whites surpassed the pre-season predictions of a fight against relegation to finish tenth.

No Palhinha release clause, Fulham chief insists
Fulham chief Tony Khan has dismissed reports of a release clause in João Palhinha's contract.

It comes amid speculation that West Ham could target the Whites midfielder as a replacement for Declan Rice.

England midfielder Rice is set to leave the east London club this summer.

Portugal international Palhinha, 27, was outstanding for Fulham last season following his move from Sporting Lisbon.

His performances have led to him being touted for a possible move – and West Ham have been linked with him in recent weeks.

However, Khan took to Twitter after Talksport suggested that the Hammers were keen on Palhinha and that there is a release clause.

"There is no release clause," Khan stated.

Fulham ahead of Leicester in fight for Fiorentina's Igor

Fiorentina are reportedly gearing up to sell defender Igor this summer, attracting serious attention from both Fulham and Leicester City.

The 25-year-old Brazilian centre back has been with the Viola since January 2020, initially joining on loan from SPAL before making a permanent move in the summer of 2021. He's featured prominently in Florence since his arrival, making 110 appearances across all competitions.

Igor was seemingly at fault for Jarrod Bowen's winner for West Ham in their Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina. He was openly reprimanded by coach Vincenzo Italiano on the pitch after the full time whistle.

As reported by TMW, Fiorentina are not planning to renew Igor's contract, making this summer the right time to sell the 25-year-old as his current deal expires in June 2024.

Fulham and Leicester are both aiming to snap up the defender this summer and the former are seemingly leading the race for his signature.

Fiorentina are now probing the market, looking for a replacement for the Brazilian centre back, who played over 3100 minutes of action under Italiano this season.

Fulham 2022/2023 season review: A new hope!

Despite losing to Manchester United in the last game of the season, it has been an incredible return to the Premier League for Fulham.

The Cottagers not only beat relegation odds, they did it with ease, finishing 10th in the table with 52 points, just one short of their best record under Roy Hodgson in the 2008/2009 season.

The impressive 2-2 draw in the opening game at home to Liverpool set the tone for what was to come, as the team scored their highest number of goals in a first-division campaign since the 1967/1968 season.

Fulham beat Chelsea in the Battle of West London
The Marco Silva-coached side has exceeded expectations in many metrics this season, but for fans, perhaps the sweetest conclusion to the last ten months will be finishing above West London rivals Chelsea for the first time in 40 years.

Fulham finished with a comfortable eight-point lead over 12th-placed Chelsea, as well as taking four points from the 2021 European champions, which included a raucous 2-1 win at Craven Cottage in January.

Another great achievement was a double Premier League win over Brighton, particularly the second game at the Amex Stadium, where a Fulham side had just 34% possession but still managed to score the only goal of the game in the 88th minute.

Fulham took on the role of "managerial executioner"
Marco Silva and his team also took on the role of managerial executioners in October when a resounding 3-0 win against Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa saw the English manager sacked just 90 minutes after the final whistle.

And three days later, a 3-2 win at Elland Road increased the pressure on then Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, who struggled for a while before finally being replaced by Javi Gracia, who also failed to stop Fulham subsequently.

Joao Palhinha and Aleksandar Mitrovic, keys to success
Joao Palhinha is probably Fulham's player of the year and has certainly been one of the signings of the season; his ability to shoot from long range was first revealed in a September away win against Nottingham Forest, the third team to be beaten by Fulham both at home and away.

Elsewhere, Aleksandar Mitrovic has had another season to remember, showing that he can do it in a big way with 14 league goals despite an eight-match ban and injury problems.

After two highly successful seasons, it's hard not to feel like Marco Silva is up to something good at Craven Cottage.

Fulham are interested in a Spanish striker Fran Navarro from Gil Vicente

According to recent reports, Fulham is evaluating the situation of Gil Vicente striker Fran Navarro. The Spanish player shone this season in Portugal's Primeira Liga.

Cottagers manager Marco Silva has capped off a successful debut Premier League campaign, with Fulham comfortably avoiding relegation and even finishing above West London rivals Chelsea.

The Craven Cottage resident team secured one of their highest-ever league results last season with a top-half-place finish and even competed for European football for a period.

Porto midfielder Mateus Uribe has been mentioned in recent months, potentially as an alternative to Joao Palhinha should the latter leave, and Manchester United duo Fred and Harry Maguire are also rumoured to be on the look at Fulham.

Now, according to The Evening Standard and journalist Dom Smith, it appears that Fulham has other potential attacking additions in mind, despite there being no indication that Aleksandar Mitrovic or Carlos Vinicius are leaving.

In fact, Fulham is believed to be considering a move for Fran Navarro from Gil Vicente ahead of this summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old has been in exceptional form in the Primeira Liga, which could generate interest from the London club, and it will be imperative for them to build on what has been a solid season.

Who is Fran Navarro?
The Spaniard 'graduated' from Valencia's academy and scored a host of goals at youth level with them, but he failed to break into the first team and eventually signed for Gil Vicente in Portugal.

He scored 21 goals in all competitions during the 2022/2023 season, standing out as their star striker and perhaps justifying why both Liverpool and Real Madrid had an interest in 2016.

The then 18-year-old was on Madrid's and Jurgen Klopp's radar as a promising youngster, according to a Super Deporte report, but Navarro's value has now risen significantly after a brilliant season.

Daniel James: Leeds and Wales winger 'a Premier League player', says Rob Page

Daniel James scored three goals during his loan spell at Fulham

Euro 2024 Qualifying - Group D: Wales v Armenia
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium Date: Friday, 16 June June Kick-off: 19:45 BST
Coverage: Live on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Radio 5 sports extra, the BBC Sport website & app; live text commentary on BBC Sport website & app. Highlights on Match of the Day Wales.

Wales manager Rob Page says Daniel James is good enough to win a move back to the Premier League following Leeds United's relegation to the Championship.

Winger James, 25, is due to return to Leeds having spent the majority of last season on loan at Fulham.

But Page believes the former Manchester United player has the quality to return to the top flight.

"I do think DJ (James) is a Premier League player," Page said.

"If I'm a Premier League manager and I find out he's available, personally I'd take him.

"I'm bound to say that because I'm his Welsh manager, but for me he always poses a threat.

"He still has things to work on, but with the pace he's got it is a brave team that plays a high line against him. I think he could easily play in the Premier League again."

James made five Leeds appearances in the opening stages of last season before joining Fulham before the summer transfer window closed.

He played 23 games for the Cottagers - although only six of those were starts - as they enjoyed an impressive campaign under Marco Silva.

But James, who signed a five-year contract when he joined Leeds from Manchester United in 2021, is currently in line for a return to the Championship with the Elland Road club.

Former Swansea City youngster James has been a regular for Page's Wales, and can expect to be involved when they face Armenia and Turkey in Euro 2024 qualifiers later this month.

The likelihood is James will operate on the left flank for his country, having been used in a more central role at times.

"It was a frustrating few months for him when I played him at centre-forward with Gareth [Bale]," Page said.

"Now we've changed and he is back out in his natural position. He likes playing wide left and the way we play now, that suits us because he gives us the width on the left.

"He's that option in behind and when you've got a tool like that in your armoury, it really is effective. At the top level in the Premier League, and at international level, he poses a threat."

Kieran's Fulham summer shortlist: Midfielders
Midfielders:

Fulham are definitely in need of reinforcements in the engine room. Harrison Reed had an outstanding season at the heart of Marco Silva's midfield, but he's still not a fully fledged creator to carve open defences. Sasa Lukic should be better next term for the experience of playing in the Premier League, but aside from Tom Cairney and Luke Harris, the Whites have little depth in the centre of midfield. Perhaps that's why social media was set abuzz when Silva was seen in prolonged conversation with Fred following our defeat at Old Trafford last month.

Whether the Brazilian makes his way to SW6 or not remains to be seen and I've conjured my own wishlist for Hammyend readers to take a look at.

Defensive midfielders:

Unai Vencedor
Age: 22
Nationality: Spanish
Position: Defensive midfielder
Club: Athletic Club
Value: £13.5m

Bilbao's golden boy might not totally fit the Silva mould but he's a classy operator as a midfield anchor. Hand-picked for the academy after starring for Santutxu FC, Vencedor has made well over a hundred appearances for Athletic, helping them win the Supercopa and reach consecutive Copa del Ray finals and won admirers right across Europe. The 22 year-old is under contract at the San Mamés until 2027 unless somebody triggers his £34.25m release clause.

Playing style:
* Hits lofted balls forward
* Likes a long-range shot
* Stays on his feet in the tackle

Strengths:
+ Blocking the ball

Weaknesses;
– Aerial duels
– Tackling

Manuel Ugarte
Age: 22
Nationality: Uruguay
Position: Defensive midfielder
Club: Sporting CP
Value: £21m

The tenacious Uruguayan looked as if he might be calling SW6 home next season, only for Paris Saint-Germain to blow Chelsea out of the water with a big offer for Ugarte. The latest tough tackler set to move on from Sporting, he will be an asset to whoever emerges with his signature this summer.

Playing style:
* Pulls the trigger from long range
* Brings the ball forward
* Draws fouls cleverly
* Prefers to play short passes
* Loves a tackle
* Commits fouls often

Strengths:
+ Tackling
+ Passing
+ Dribbling
+ Interceptions

Weaknesses:
– Difficult to find any

Nicolo Rovella
Age: 21
Nationality: Italian
Position: Defensive midfielder
Club: Juventus
Value: £10.5m

Another gem to emerge from the Juve youth set-up, Rovella reminds many seasoned observers of a young Andrea Pirlo, which is probably one of the hardest comparisons to live up to in Italian football. He has gained senior experience at Genoa and Monza and has demonstrated an exceptional ability to read the game as well as dictate play from a deep-lying midfield position. It remains to be seen what Rovella's next move is but he has been lauded as 'the future of the national team' by Monza manager Raffaele Palladino and the Turin giants could sanction a loan move if they aren't still sour after Clint Dempsey's famous chip.

Playing style:
* Hits raking passes forward
* Shoots from distance
* A tenacious tackler

Strengths:
+ Passing
+ Unlocking a defence with a through ball
+ Set-piece specialist
+ Making interceptions

Weaknesses;
– Aerial duels
– Discipline

Wilfred Ndidi

Age: 26
Nationality: Nigerian
Position: Defensive midfielder
Club: Leicester City
Value: £25m

Powerful Nigerian international Ndidi appeared destined for a big move at point, with rumours linking him to Manchester United as well as a coterie of European clubs. Now, he's looking for a new club after dropping into the Championship with Leicester City after a nightmare season. He shone against Newcastle to show he's still got it, but those types of performances were too few and far between when the Foxes badly needed their big players to stand up. Would he be worth a punt this summer?

He was a big player who had multiple interests with one of the clubs, Manchester United at one point. I do believe he can get back to his best under a proper manager in Marco Silva, Ndidi x Palihina partnership is mouthwatering.

Playing style:

* Likes to shoot from distance

* Prefers to play short passes

* A strong tackler, who can commit frequent fouls

Strengths:

+ Reading the game and interceptions
+ Winning aerial duels
+ Blocking the ball
+ Tackling

Weaknesses:

– Concentration

Tyler Adams

Age: 24
Nationality: American
Club: Leeds United
Value: £17.5m

The American international had a chastening first taste of the Premier League, struggling to impose himself on proceedings for a struggling Leeds side after the departure of Jesse Marsch at Elland Road. He has been linked with moves to Newcastle and Manchester United this summer, but will need to improve on his discipline as he is partial to a card or two with his occasionally over-zealous tackling. That makes him one to avoid for me, ultimately.

Playing style:

* Shoots from long range
* Picks out a short pass
* Tough tackler who can find himself in the book regularly

Strengths:
+ Passing
+ Aerial duels
+ Tackling
+ Interceptions

Weaknesses:
– Discipline
– Concentration

Ibrahim Sangare

Age: 25
Nationality: Ivorian
Position: Defensive midfielder
Club: PSV Eindhoven
Value: £29.5m

A dominant figure at the heart of the PSV Eindhoven midfield, the Ivorian international has been linked with a move to England for years – reportedly coming close to joining Leicester City on a couple of occasions. Genuinely world class in my view and could be considering his future after the shock of Ruud van Nistelrooy's resignation, when he apparently stormed to his car in fury.

A world class player in my opinion was linked with Leicester City in recent years but never made the move is now the time for a move to English football.

Playing style:

* Insatiable appetite to win the ball back

Strengths:

+ Tackling
+ Through balls
+ Aerial Duels
+ Passing
+ Dribbling
+ Interceptions
+ Blocks

Weaknesses;

– Concentration

Central midfielders:

Exequiel Palacios
Age: 24
Nationality: Argentinian
Position: Central midfielder
Club: Bayer Leverkusen
Value: £13.5m

The Argentinian playmaker appears to have gone a little under the radar despite being a consistent performer of late for Leverkusen. Palacios possesses an excellent range of passing and would probably be a stronger weapon in the final third than Reed, even though the special one Iniesta has been remodelled magnificently under Silva.

Playstyle;
* Lines up shots from long range
* Lays the ball off for team-mates
* Wins fouls
* Plays short passes
* Loves a tackle

Strengths:
+ Passing
+ Interceptions
+ Long shots
+ Tackling

Weaknesses:
– Concentration

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
Age: 28
Nationality: Serbian
Position: Central midfielder; attacking midfielder
Club: Lazio
Value: £30m

I had to include him for the Serbian connection that has seen Lukic team-up with Mitrovic. Milinkovic-Savic would be an audacious coup, but he is probably destined for a bigger move than to Craven Cottage. He is set to enter the final year of his deal with Lazio and the Italian giants are rumoured to be ready to accept something in the region of £25m-30m rather than lose him for nothing.

Playing style:
* Wins fouls regularly
* Lays the ball off for team-mates
* Serious set-piece threat

Strengths:
+ Aerial duels
+ Key passes
+ Passing
+ Concentration

Weaknesses;
– None

Nicolas De la Cruz
Age: 25
Nationality: Uruguay
Position: Central midfielder; attacking midfielder
Club: River Plate
Value: £10.5m

Arguably something of a hidden gem plying his trade in Argentina, de la Cruz has helped River Plate win the Copa Argentina, Supercopa, the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericana in recent seasons whilst making over 180 appearances for Los Millonarios. Tipped as a talent from an early age, the classy playmaker captained Uruguay to under-20 South American Cup success in 2017 and has gone on to win nineteen caps for his country, scoring two goals.

Playing style:
* Wins fouls frequently
* Prefers to play short passes
* Cuts inside frequently
* Likes to get a foot in

Strengths:
+ Passing
+ Keeping hold of the ball
+ Finishing
+ Key passes
+ Dribbling
+ Long shots
+ Crossing
+ Defensive contribution
+ Tackling

Weaknesses:
– Few and far between

Wendel

Age: 25
Nationality: Brazilian
Position: Central midfielder; attacking midfield; left midfield
Club: Zenit St. Petersburg
Value: £19m

Opting for the Brazilian might seem as if it comes from left field, but Wendel has been a star for Zenit St. Petersburg in recent years, racking up goals and assists – even if the Russian league has become something of a procession of late. Wendel, whose versatility could prove valuable, was also part of the Sporting Lisbon side who ended their title drought in 2021 to cap a strong three years in Portugal.

Playstyle;
* Gets fouled often
* Likes to play short passes
* Does not dive into tackles

Strengths;
+ Passing
+ Through balls
+ Dribbling
+ Holding on to the ball

Weaknesses;
– Aerial Duels
– Finishing
– Tackling

Sources: Fulham planning to let go two big-name stars

Fulham are open to offers for forward duo Carlos Vinicius and Rodrigo Muniz, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has revealed that the Cottagers are trying to raise funds and clear space in the squad for the signing of Coventry City star Viktor Gyokeres.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (9 June) that Fulham and Crystal Palace are preparing bids for Gyokeres after the Sky Blues' failure to secure promotion to the Premier League.

It is believed Everton, Burnley and Wolves are also admirers of the Sweden international.

He has just 12 months left to run on his contract at Coventry – and it is believed that his priority is to secure a move to England's top flight, despite links with Portuguese giants Sporting CP.

Fulham are keen to add Gyokeres to their ranks in order to ease the burden on star man Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serbia international notched 15 goals and four assists in 28 appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.

Marco Silva's side hit a blip during his eight-game ban earlier this year – picking up nine of a possible 24 points and effectively ending their challenge for European qualification.

Vinicius was Mitrovic's replacement during that ban – and notched five goals and three assists in 34 appearances in all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.

His contract runs until June 2025 after joining the Craven Cottage outfit from PSV last year (2022).

Meanwhile, Muniz spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Championship Middlesbrough.

The Brazillian made just nine starts in 17 total appearances for the Teessiders, scoring twice.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (9 June) that West Ham have made Fulham star Joao Palhinha their top summer target.

The Cottagers are hopeful of securing a huge profit on the midfielder after signing him from Sporting CP for a reported £20million in 2022.
