Looks to me like that's where he's been asked to play. I can understand a bit of safety first from TC in the absence of Periera (and even more so given how accident prone Reed is looking). But I agree that he also needs opportunities to influence the game more.

I mean, he's in Palhinha's position, not really his fault.

He isn't, Reed is sitting deepest with Pereira and TC in front of him. Even if that was the case, Pereira is coming deeper to get the ball and drive forward, Cairney is just sitting kind of in the middle of the pitch not really affecting the game
