Fulham agree deal with Ajax for Bassey
According to Voetbal International, Fulham and Ajax have come to an agreement over defender Calvin Bassey.

The Premier League side has agreed to pay €21 million for the centre-back and Ajax have also negotiated a sell-on clause.

Bassey joined Ajax from Rangers last summer for around €24 million but he is set to leave a year later after failing to impress in Amsterdam.

It will now depend on personal terms between Fulham and Bassey as to whether the deal is completed. Bassey didn't want to leave Ajax last week but was told that he cannot count on minutes, meaning a departure is now on the cards.

Ajax fans seem to be over the moon about this, apparently been very poor for them.

However, i do trust silva to get the best out of him as he has with Diop

Yep, I remember Lyon fans being the same when we bought Tete, and look how that's gone!  ::scarf::

I hold Tony Khan to be completely responsible for this, should the player fail with us I will demand TK's head, on a pike, over the Cottage gates.

Should he be a success, I will hail the genius of our manager, whoever that is at the time.

That's all the bases covered, I think.
Any fool can criticise, condemn and complain, and most fools do.

@jolslover

Think it's a great signing. He was wanted by top clubs in Europe after his Europa league run with Rangers. Not had best spell at Ajax but I think he will do really well for us

We haven't got him yet, personal terms yet to be agreed.

Funny how sky aren't reporting this, but are quick to speculate when the Saudis are making offers

Haha so true. Sky are shocking though. I don't get excited (like I used to) when they report we're signing someone. As now I can see the source of their information, which is usually a 13 year old kid who's made up a rumour on twitter.

So there are a couple of possibilities here:

1. This is instead of Morato. Which would be a major disappointment. We can more or less safely say that this is not a smoke and mirror show to put pressure on Benfica.

2. This is Tosins replacement. Which isnt ideal considering Bassey is left footed and so are Morato and Ream, but that shouldnt be a deal breaker per se as we had 3 right footed cbs last season. It could -within this context - mean that our other right footed CB targets were unattainable but Bassey was a better choice than the right footed cbs that were also available to us. Who knows?

3. This is instead of FBT/Tosin. Bassey can also play full back. Having him as cover for two positions would justify the fee a bit more than in option 2. This option would however go against Marcos will of having 2 players in each position

I dont get this can cover 2 positions nowadays your allowed 57M subs and can change half the team. just get specialist in their roles

Hopefully he signs and perhaps it will have a domino effect as a result of the ongoing work behind the scenes to bring in key players.

Although he had a bad year at Ajax he is only 23 and looks like he was immense in Scotland so I'm hoping he comes good for us. Looks an absolute beast on this video from a year ago with pace and power and note all the comments underneath. Know it is the Scottish league but but did very well in the Europa as well. Ajax fans seem to think he's really poor on the ball but didn't look it before. They do seem to think he's good defensively however which is a real positive. Sure we've signed him for left centre back but a very good option at left back if say we need a goal as looks like he probably has better delivery than Robinson.

Seems a lot to pay for one good season for Rangers. I hope we're not in panic buy territory just to keep the fans happy.

Yes there are pros and cons about it sure. But in order for them to be on the bench means in our case that we have to buy them first. Or loan them, but id rather we try and not loan players. It just prolongs the issue

Having two players would mean us having to buy two players instead of one. If we are looking to spend money on other positions, bringing in versatile players is a good option. Its also good for the squad to have players capable of playing elsewhere on the pitch, its also good from a tactical point

The downside with having "specialists" are that they are more confined into one role and one position

Sammyffc

Reports coming out that his agent is fuming that ajax have accepted an offer and he doesn't actually want to leave.

Sigh.
