Our crossing

We actually got in good positions down both wings with our players having many clear opportunities to cross.

But our crossing was diabolical - 90% of the time crosses were not going to our players.

Robinson has always been a poor crosser, but today Castagne was even worse.

Wish we had invested in some genuine wingers.

It's the inverted wingers most of the time , it's killing us .

It would be nice to see a winger cut out side get to the byline. And put in crosses ,but it seems unlikely.

what we need is a couple of players making the runs in close to the goal to take the defenders with them and then the wingers cutting the ball back to other players just inside the penalty box. We used to do this so well under Jankovich but it doesn't seem to be a tactic of ours now. I think it was Brighton the other day scored all three goals in a game by doing this. I honestly believe our lack of goals is more to do with tactics than not having a good enough number 9,after all one player will only score you so many goals, it needs everyone to contribute.

And people wonder why Jimenez isn't scoring any goals. His confidence might be low but we at least need to give him the opportunity to score.

Though Robinson has a history of poor crossing, I do think he has improved a bit so far this season in the early going.  Has put in a few decent balls, IMHO

Crossing the ball has to be plan jedi is good for this, why Wilson doesn't do it often in a game choosing to cut in has to be team orders willian seems to cut inside a lot as well as we all have seen Silva expects crosses from jedi and Tate.
Raul needs crosses we can all see that if he is to be effective and score goals ,vini it seems feeds on mistakes or balls played in from all over the pitch.

Holders

We need a Les Barrett. He could dribble down the touchline to the corner flag and cross at right angles onto Earle or Halom's head.

Our striker situation needs Silva to think outside his comfort zone  to may be try a 442 system at least until January. Partner Raul & Vinicius up front have Tete & Robinson as full backs but have Castane and Willian wide  Lukic /Iwobi,& Palhinha central mid.

1 goal in 3x home games came from Willian getting to the byeline & crossing. Yes the keeper fumbled it but at least he had a cross to deal with & the ball did not end up back with Diop, Ream & Leno.

Robinson's crossing was really poor on Monday until the latter stages of the game. He couldn't get it past the 1st defender on a number of occasions. I am not having a go at Robinson, just remarking that he and Castagne both had poor crossing performances.

I do think it could cause our oponents bother if our inverted wingers were simply to change wings for short spells during a match.

Although our crossing isn't great, at the moment we don't seem to have the instinctive strikers who opponents see as a constant threat.
Bobby DeCordova Reid always seemed to have instinctive positioning and reactions but rarely got a chance. May be Silva could turn him into a Jermain Defoe striker.

Silva needs to do something with our strikers, non of them are scoring goals. If he has a magic wand he should spend time on each of them and turn them into average goals corers.

Are the strikers the issue or is it the tactics ? Jiminez is getting some stick but I'm not convinced it's all down to him. Give the guy some service and then we may see an end product.

May be we need a partnership up front instead of just one. Go 442 and try to make a Partnership upfront between Raul & Vini a bit like we had with Zamora and Johnson. Or try Reid, which ever one clicks, at least to January.

Let's hope that Marco has something planned for tomorrow because Sheffield will probably be playing with nine around the area and quick breaks. It will work for them sometime!

Jims Dentist

Would like to see Jiminez in the Pereira role.
Couldn't be any worse and it should mean we get more bodies in the box when attacking, something sadly missing today before the changes.
