It's good to discuss when impressions are fresh.

Ground out a win, will take the two fortunate goals. Better movement today albeit it is Sheff Utd who are the whipping boys.

Plenty of balls whipped in today but still no striker anywhere to be seen.

Bassey in for Diop, Iwobi should start, and I would drop AP for TC

SP

Massive three points, onwards & upwards.

Sorry to jump the gun admins, maybe merge this

What other goal other than Cairney was fortunate?

Absolutely this. Bassey looked very strong, Iwobi has strength and direction we otherwise lack and we looked so much better with TC on for AP.

That said, I would rather try Iwobi instead of Andreas. I think Reed adds much needed defensive steel when we're not playing a likely relegation candidate.

Thames Bank 1

Put Andreas out on right, you cannot fault his effort.
We were spoilt by our achievements last season.

Just happy for the points. These are the type of fixtures which can turn a season for better or worse.

I think so,at least far more shots yesterday and proved the more you shoot even our midfield will score and just felt a whole lot better yesterday defensively we were sound midfield worked hard Vinny a Physical presence ,also substiutions in good time and game changers so well done Marco.

If the keeper dropped a clanger, it was because of power of Cairneys bullet.  So im still calling it a Cairney goal!

Id say we did what was expected of us. Pretty poor overall quality in the game, a bit too many technical mistakes from both sides. Sheffield are in for a real nightmare this season. They play five at the back essentially and are not getting the defensive benefits from it. We were getting run ins behind their defence, we were getting past them out on the wings. They pretty much relied on us not having a physical presence in the box so they could just clear all the crosses coming in. And if they arent a solid defensive side then 532/352 is just a liability as they werent getting enough players forward either

I think yet again, with a decent striker we would have ended this game before half time and not needing a Lucky Strike from Cairney to get ahead.

Don't think that was a lucky strike at all.
Think TC meant to chip and it was unlucky not to have gone straight in!

We were talking about Willian's goal not  Cairney

We did very well in creating so many chances against a packed defence, and it was just poor finishing, due, I think, to lack of composure, that stopped us being at least one goal ahead at half -time.

Some of those chances seemed easier to put away than miss, but it's great that we created them, and augurs well for the future .

Some bad luck there too, so we deserved a bit in the second half, though I don't think our goals were lucky - Cairney's, a great chip on target, and Willian's, great skill in creating the space for a shot, which was too hard for the keeper  to keep out.
