Tottenham full 20-man squad vs Fulham revealed with Yves Bissouma replacement and Johnson update
Tottenham news as Ange Postecoglou has a strong group of players to pick from against Fulham despite Brennan Johnson injury worry

The international break had pretty much the perfect effect for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou. After ending on a positive note, heading to the top of the table and staying their for the past fortnight, the manager was not able to spend time with some of his injured players but also to watch and see how those that went away fared.

After a red card at the end of a frustrating first half against Luton Town before the break it would have been easy for things to take a turn for the worse but the new feeling at the club and some immense quality helped them pull through. Even without Yves Bissouma Spurs were able to fight their way to another victory.

Now they have dropped in the table slightly and know that anything but a win will leave them behind the front runners on goal difference only. Luckily for Postecoglu he is set to strengthen his squad once more. The suspended Bissouma will be out and needs replacing for the match with Fulham on Monday, there's a group already in place to take his spot though.

"It's been a pretty positive international break for us.," Postecoglou admitted to reporters before the game. "In terms of availability I'll address the international players first. Everyone is kind of back and medical reports seem to be good so no real issues around the guys from a fitness perspective."

This comes as a positive after both Cristian Romero and Son Heung-Min had minor injury scares whilst in action for their country. Romero was taken off for Argentina shortly after half-time in their second fixture of the break against Peru whilst Son was rested for South Korea before playing through a knock in the second half.

None of this is to be worried about for Spurs though as the Australian manager added: "Gio Lo Celso played for Argentina as well which was great, so those guys all came through it well. With Brennan [Johnson] he has had a good, solid couple of weeks of training which is good for him with the guys who have been left alongside [Rodrigo] Bentancur, [Bryan] Gil. They're all good.

"Monday night helps us in terms of that respect. All the international players should be available and Brennan we'll see how he goes in the next couple of days." Unlike Liverpool, who had Argentine international Alexis Mac Allister called into action less than three days after featuring for his country, Lo Celso and Richarlison both had an extra few days to rest and reover for this clash.

It leaves both players in a position to keep their spot in the squad. Lo Celso is yet to start a league game for Tottenham but could come into the thinking here. Alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the pair are two of the most senior replacement options for Bissouma and Postecoglou hinted at his involvement here.

"He has also been very important in a lot of the games that we've won late or had to shore up late," the boss explained. "He has been one of the people who has helped us do it and it is not like he hasn't contributed at all. He's been a really important part for us."

Postecoglou added: "With Pierre he is a professional and very determined to win a spot in the team. He presents himself well every day and over a 38-game season all of these guys will get an opportunity at some point and what they do with that is up to them. In the meantime what is important is if they want to keep getting opportunities, they have to train well and when they do play, whether they start or not, they contribute to the team."

It is still too soon for Rodrigo Bentancur to return to the squad though. "He has just started training, so we will take our time with him," the manager said. "He's missed a lot of football and we'll have a look at the next few weeks, the games we've got and when we've seen enough in training and he feels comfortable, we'll slowly reintegrate him back into the team."

Elsewhere Dejan Kulusevski is in position to have a role in the London derby just days after he was part of the Belgium vs Sweden clash that was abandoned due to a shooting in Brussels. "No, he is fine. I had a chat with him," said Postecoglou. "Like everyone else we shake our heads at these things where you go to a football game and these kind of things happen.

"It is sad and kind of confronting how close it comes to your own world, but Deki is fine. He trained yesterday with the team and is ready to go." This leaves the new manager with almost a fully fit squad to choose from even with the absences of Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon through long-term injury. There has also been no sign of Ryan Sessegnon yet as he attempts to get back to business.

Here is the 20-man group that football.london expects Postecoglou to pick for the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday.

Goalkeepers: Guglielmo Vicario, Fraser Forster

Defenders: Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Emerson Royal

Midfielders: Pape Matar Sarr, James Maddison, Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp

Attackers: Richarlison, Aleoi Veliz, Son Heung-Min, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson

Fulham team news: Calvin Bassey to start against Tottenham amid defensive injury woes
Marco Silva takes his team across the capital without both Issa Diop and Tosin Adarabioyo

Fulham are set to hand £18.5million summer signing Calvin Bassey just his second Premier League start tonight, with Marco Silva facing a defensive shortage for the trip to Tottenham.

Issa Diop is out with a foot injury and Tosin Adarabioyo is still missing with a long-term groin problem, leaving Fulham without a recognised right-sided centre-back.

It means Bassey and Tim Ream - two left-footed players - are expected to line up at the heart of the Fulham defence.

Bassey's only previous Premier League start came in a 2-2 draw at Arsenal in August.

Fulham are still without regular right-back Kenny Tete due to a groin injury, so Timothy Castagne will continue to deputise in a makeshift back four.

Silva says Antonee Robinson is fit to start at left-back, despite being left out of the United States squad due to a groin issue.

"Robinson in the last few seasons has been playing week in week out", Silva explained. "No breaks with international duty, and in the summer with tournaments as well. He's not stopped. With us, apart from small spells, he's always played."

Silva added: "It's not something serious. We have to take care of him and it was a good moment to do that with friendly games [against Germany and Ghana]. He worked with us here. He had his time to rest [and] recover."

Fulham knocked Tottenham out of the Carabao Cup on penalties in August and are the only team to beat Ange Postecoglou's side this season.

But Silva expects a much stronger Spurs display on Monday evening.

"Tottenham have had an amazing start to the season — it's clear why", he said. "Not just results, but the way they're achieving them. They had [one] bad result and that was against us. Different scenario, different game. It will be a great challenge."

Latest Tottenham injury news as four miss Fulham with Brennan Johnson update and Kulusevski talk
Tottenham injury news with the latest updates on Ange Postecoglou's squad ahead of the clash with Fulham on Monday

Ange Postecoglou has had an extra two days to work with his Tottenham squad after the international break and he isn't set to let it go. With a cohort of South American stars returning to Hotspur Way less than three full days before the Premier League restarted, Spurs have a big advantage.

Although some of that comes at the cost of then having to play against on Friday with less rest, given the relative lack of depth to the squad compared to some of their top four and current title rivals, it is a marginal gain that they won't want to give up. Postecoglou and his squad know that only a win against London rivals Fulham will see them return as outright leaders at the top of the table and they could be five points clear before any of their closest contenders play again.

That is getting too far ahead though and for this match, hosting Fulham on Monday, Spurs have the chance to respond to Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool. With the extra few days to work things are in good order. "It's been a pretty positive international break for us," the boss admitted.

"In terms of availability I'll address the international players first. Everyone is kind of back and medical reports seem to be good so no real issues around the guys from a fitness perspective." Given the long-term injuries already littering the group this a big boost. Both Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic remain out and will do for some time longer while Ryan Sessegnon is also sidelined.

This has left a big hole in the wide attacking spots of the squad but luckily things didn't get any worse over the past fortnight. "With Brennan [Johnson] he's has had a good, solid couple of weeks of training which is good for him with the guys who have been left alongside [Rodrigo] Bentancur, [Bryan] Gil," Postecoglou added. "They're all good. Monday night helps us in terms of that respect. All the international players should be available and Brennan we'll see how he goes in the next couple of days."

Johnson has only played twice so far since signing for Spurs from Nottingham Forest on deadline day. Arriving with a knock and struggling to overcome his fitness troubles, not being picked for Wales' most recent squad has only gone to help the 22-year-old and he is now back in contention to play once more.

After Son Heung-min was seen limping off for South Korea in their dominany 6-0 win over Vietnam at half-time there was a worry that the club captain was putting his place in doubt but that does not seem to be the case. Also in attack and Postecoglou has revealed conversations with Dejan Kulusevski this week following his involvement in the Belgium vs Sweden match that was abonded due to a shooting in Brussels.

The winger is one of Tottenham's most important players and is set to play despite being involved close to the incident. "No, he is fine," the boss said. "I had a chat with him. Like everyone else we shake our heads at these things where you go to a football game and these kind of things happen.

"It is sad and kind of confronting how close it comes to your own world, but Deki is fine. He trained yesterday with the team and is ready to go." While the Swedish ace is good to go, there is still a wait for Bentancur to be fit. "We'll be careful with him," the managfer explained.

"Now he's sort of fully training, so that means he's into the whole session. We've drip-fed him into training the last month and he's coped pretty well with that. Now he's into full training.

"We've got to be mindful that he's missed a fair bit of football, but I think the more he trains with the first team over the next few weeks we'll sort of pick our moment. He's looking good at training and it was great to have him for the last couple of weeks to fully integrate with the guys who are here and we're looking forward to having him back."

For now, games remain a step too far for the Uruguay international but while he is slowly intergrated back into the first team mix, Gil has taken another step towards being a genuine option. The Spaniard also struggled to find any rhythm during pre-season and had a damaging injury but was back in the squad to play Luton.

"He can be really important for us. He's one like I said the last couple of weeks it has been great to have him just working really hard at training," his Australian head coach said. "He's missed all of this season so far and it's well chronicled that we lost Ivan and Manor who play in that left-wing position. Having Bryan fit and available again is great for us.

"He's, I guess, in the same boat as everyone else because at some point he'll be forwarded an opportunity and then it's up to him. He certainly has all the criteria and credentials to play in that position for us and, like I said, his training is getting stronger now, he's part of the group and I'm sure he'll get an opportunity.

"We've got a Monday night game and then we back it up with a Friday night game, so we'll probably need a good deal of the squad to do those two games in the next five or six days." Although it would be a surprise to see Gil in the starting XI on Monday there could be a shock to the team named.

With Yves Bissouma out through suspension there is a midfield slot open. It looks set to be Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who takes it but should Postecoglou want to mix things up then the return of Giovani Lo Celso certainly helps. The Argentine was picked for his country once more but is yet to start a league game for Spurs this season and has been struggling with form and fitness for a while.

"He is obviously very highly regarded with the Argentinian set-up because they always call him up and he played in both games," explained Lo Celso's club manager. "He didn't play significant minutes but he played in both and played 15-20 in the second game. It is great for him and his confidence.

"Unfortunately he has a disrupted early part of the season for us but again another player we haven't had a contribution from and that's a pleasing thing for us. As good as we've been, there are still a few players like Brennan, Bentancur, Gil and Lo Celso who haven't really played at all for us yet.

"Having them back, even in terms of training and raising the level, they are the things that will give us the focus to maintain and keep improving the performances. When there is competitiveness around the squad in training and playing, that guards against any complacency or anyone feeling comfortable about things."

It once more hints at the growing depth rather than immediate first team changes that comes with the latest injury updates from Hotspur Way. The starting team is settled and in form, only changing through fitness, minor tweaks or suspension, but it is the back-up and rotational options available that has lead to many to surpress their title cries for Postecoglou and his team.

However, with Lo Celso, Gil, soon Bentancur and Johnson all on their way back there is more freedom and choice as well as reduced pressure and workload on those starting near enough every game.

Spurs vs Fulham | Rob's tactical analysis, Ben's one to watch...
We're back in action for the first time in 16 days - and back home for the first time this month - and here's the thoughts of Club commentator and pundit Rob Daly and Ben Haines, presenter of Inside Spurs, The Warm Up and The Review Show on SPURSPLAY ahead of tonight's Premier League clash against Fulham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (8pm).

Rob's tactical analysis
"Spurs have a great record against Fulham in the Premier League - it's 13 wins in the last 15 top flight meetings. Of course, the teams have already met this season in the Carabao Cup, Fulham beating Spurs, although it's hard to take too much from the game as both teams rotated, Ange Postecoglou made nine changes and it was eventually won on spot-kicks. Fulham have had an up and down start to the season. They've lost home games that were a little surprising, drew at Arsenal, weren't great in a home loss to Chelsea but beat Sheffield United before the international break. They are still adapting to life without Aleksandar Mitrovic, who left in the summer. Carlos Vinicius and Raul Jimenez have taken turns in leading the line. They've a couple of issues at centre-back because Issa Diop and Tosin Adarabioyo are injured, so I expect it will be Calvin Bassey and Tim Ream at centre-back. They are very strong in central midfield with Joao Palhinha, he's so key, superb in the Carabao Cup against Spurs, no-one has made more tackles in the Premier League since his debut last season and he's coming up against a Spurs midfield missing Yves Bissmoua through suspension. I suppose this is the big team selection dilemma for Ange, who takes Bissouma's place? You would imagine it would be Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, having done so well and earned praise from Ange for his performance off the bench against Luton when Bissouma was sent off last time out. Rodrigo Bentancur is back in full training as well, great news, but this game comes too early for him. Of course, Spurs fans will be delighted Heung-Min Son and Cristian Romero, who appeared to have knocks on international duty, are both fine. Spirits are high at the moment, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie have both made full debuts for Holland and Italy respectively, James Maddison has also started again for England, so you'd imagine for a team top of the table (ahead of the weekend's fixtures) that the mood is really good. On Maddison, he could well end his wait for a goal or assist at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - two goals and five assists so far have all come on the road, including that moment of magic to set up van de Ven last time out at Luton - I suspect he might just get that first goal on Monday evening."

Ben's one to watch
"Two big things for me. All eyes on us as we play on Monday night, but I think that's really nice and nothing changes, we play in the way that we've played all season, hopefully no niggles in the international break, and it's another chance to celebrate how well things are going at the moment. In terms of Fulham, Issa Diop is out, a big blow for them, he's played very well in defence, so I'll pick out Jaoa Palhinha, central midfielder, box to box, can score goals, can break up play, very good passer. The midfield battles this season have been very interesting and he's a phenomenal player, a real engine in the heart of Fulham's team. For Spurs, I'll go for Alejo Veliz, who Ange Postecoglou has spoken very well of in recent weeks. He got some game time against Liverpool and Luton, and I wonder if we may see some more of him off the bench tonight. Every time you bring a striker in with his attributes, a player who never gives a defender a second off, constantly at it, running off the shoulder, running into channels, really good hold-up play, aerial ability as well, I think that's really exciting for this team, to know if we need a goal or an extra element of pressure, he's someone we can bring off the bench. Great news also that Rodrigo Bentancur is full back in training, Bryan Gil as well, maybe we'll see him back in action over the next couple of games."

'Not business as usual' - Postecoglou on Tottenham's duty to provide escapism
Ange Postecoglou has admitted that it will not be business as usual for Tottenham against Fulham as the team has an added responsibility to bring joy to the fans who are distressed by the events in the Middle East.

There has been a lot said and written about the relatively muted response from all Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, about the conflict (Guardian).

Spurs, in particular, are in a difficult position, given that they have a diverse fan base but also a historic connection to the lowest Jewish community (The Athletic).

The Times revealed over the weekend that Tottenham have sent a message to fans, explaining that no political flags, including the Israeli one, would be allowed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the clash against Fulham.

The club flag policy is in line with the directive handed to the club by the Premier League ahead of matchweek 9.

When asked if it would be business as usual for his side against the Cottagers, Postecoglou has now told Football.London: "Well, it's not business as usual. That is not how we see our role. Our role, like I said, is to provide our supporters with something that you know they want to see in their football team.

"When we go out there on Monday night there will be 60,000 out there – and hundreds of thousands around the world – who just want to see their football team play some exciting football and win a game and give them that joy that only football can bring.

"Because, you know, when you score in that last minute to win a game of football, you don't care who is next to you. Do you? You don't care where they come from, what they think or what they believe. You are united as one for that moment.

"That's what football provides. It can provide. And I think that's our role. It is always our role, irrespective of what the current climate is or what the climate might be next week or in weeks to come.

"Football, like I said, maybe I am not using the right term, but it is a form of escapism for a lot of people for those moments, providing some comfort, feeling like you are part of something bigger. That's always our role as a football club."

Spurs have a duty to provide some escapism for fans
When asked about how he processes the events of the past two weeks, the Australian explained: "I've always felt that I'm not a custodian of any football club.

"I have the responsibility of being a football manager like everyone else, I'm a human being and you struggle with these things, and you understand that other people will struggle with them.

"My life experience has taught me not to judge or come to any strong conclusions. I'll let the people who are affected by it be the guide in these kinds of things. Because it's very easy for others to cast judgement but in all these things, you are guided by people who are directly affected.

"And all I can do as a football manager within our football club is try and provide support, advice, and guidance in the best way I can and the best way a football club can to anyone who's struggling with these things.

"Again, I've always felt football – in sport, in general, especially football, the greatest role I can play is just that – and it sounds trivial at times – but it is, it can be a form of escapism.

"Ninety, 95 minutes where you can take people who are struggling with wherever they are in life just away from it, just for a little while, waiting for that period of time that you know you're around supporting their football club.

"And maybe within that context, we can provide some sort of small solace or comfort or, or even a little bit of joy that takes them away from whatever they're going through. But yeah, that's where I've gone.

"I don't try and sort of interject myself into these things because, you know, there are things I do know about, my own sort of upbringing. And, you know, I know about what it feels like to be an immigrant and I can talk strongly about those kinds of things.

"But my family's never been involved in the war. So it's not for me to cast judgement on it."

Spurs Web Opinion
Postecoglou obviously cannot give his opinion on the conflict, given how divisive the issue is and had to toe the diplomatic line, which he has done, while also making it clear that the team has an extra responsibility to bring fans joy following the tragic developments.

Tottenham's next five fixtures compared to Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City in title race
Tottenham news - Ange Postecoglou's side face a number of challenging fixtures over the next month in comparison to Arsenal and Liverpool

Tottenham make their Premier League return this evening in a London derby against Fulham. Ange Postecoglou's side had spent the last few weeks at the top of the table but Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool have all gone above them having picked up points from their respective games over the weekend.

However, the Lilywhites can make an immediate return if they beat Fulham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight. Postecoglou will have to do without Yves Bissouma though, as he was sent off for two yellow cards in the 1-0 win over Luton Town before the international break.

Spurs can go a maximum of five points clear at the top of the table before any of their rivals play with another London derby against Crystal Palace to come this Friday. Picking up six points this week will certainly be important as Liverpool and Arsenal face favourable fixture run-ins, while Man City could drop some points over the next month as they take on Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all before facing Spurs.

With that said, football.london has compiled all of the upcoming fixtures for Spurs' Premier League title rivals and compared them to the ones facing Postecoglou and his players.

Fulham (H) - Monday, October 23
Tottenham end Premier League the ninth matchweek with a home clash against Fulham, attempting to avenge their Carabao Cup defeat. Postecoglou has thus far won all of the games he has managed at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and he will be hoping to keep that record entact.

While he has found a settled team, one key change must be made this evening with Bissouma suspended and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg as his likely replacement.

Crystal Palace (A) - Friday, October 27

Another London derby awaits Tottenham just a few days later with a trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. In the same fixture last season, the Lilywhites eased to a 4-0 win and they will be hoping to take advantage of the Eagles' injury concerns to inflict a similar defeat.

Newcastle beat Roy Hodgson's side by that margin over the weekend and Spurs certainly have the attacking players to do the same.

Chelsea (H) - Monday, November 6

To some, Tottenham's biggest game of the season thus far arrives in November when they take on Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea. The former Spurs boss enjoyed a successful four-and-a-half-years in north London before he was sacked in 2019 with his return to the Premier League coming this past summer at Stamford Bridge.

Not only is Pochettino heading back to his old club but it is also a London derby for Spurs where their barren run at home to the Blues was ended last season with a 2-0 victory.

Wolves (A) - Saturday, November 11

Tottenham's final fixture before the November international break comes at Molineux against Wolves. Gary O'Neill's side have hit form in recent weeks with Pedro Neto inspiring them to an impressive points total.

Spurs have struggled against low-block teams under Postecoglou and therefore could be set for a tough encounter especially with how they used counter-attacks to beat Manchester City.

Aston Villa (H) - Sunday, November 26

A real test of Tottenham's Premier League title credentials arrives at the end of November with a clash against Aston Villa. Unai Emery guided the Villains to European football last season and they have continued at an upward trajectory into this season with Ollie Watkins in scintillating form.

On the final day last season, Villa prevented Spurs from finishing in a Europa Conference League spot having also done the double over the Lilywhites and they will therefore be out for revenge.

Arsenal's next five fixtures:
Sheffield United (H) - Saturday, October 28

Newcastle (A) - Saturday, November 4

Burnley (H) - Saturday, November 11

Brentford (A) - Saturday, November 25

Wolves (H) - Saturday, December 2

Manchester City
Manchester United (A) - Sunday, October 29

AFC Bournemouth (H) - Saturday, November 4

Chelsea (A) - Sunday, November 12

Liverpool (H) - Saturday, November 25

Tottenham (H) - Sunday, December 3

Liverpool
Nottingham Forest (H) - Sunday October 29

Luton Town (A) - Sunday, November 5

Brentford (H) - Sunday, November 12

Manchester City (A) - Saturday, November 26

Fulham (H) - Sunday, December 3

Ange Postecoglou now likely to start 26-year-old over £45m Tottenham player vs Fulham
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is reportedly likely to stick with Richarlison over Brennan Johnson against Fulham tonight.

That's according to The Evening Standard, with the outlet claiming Johnson could return to the squad after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.

Brennan Johnson hasn't featured for Tottenham since the North London Derby last month in what was his first start under Postecoglou.

The 22-year-old arrived for a £45 million fee on deadline day and looked bright against Arsenal before being forced off with an injury.

Richarlison has come back into the side in his absence and registered an assist in the 2-1 win over Liverpool.

But the 26-year-old was hooked at half-time in the 1-0 win at Luton after wasting some brilliant opportunities in front of goal.

Yet, a fresh report claims that Ange Postecoglou is 'more likely' to stick with Richarlison over Johnson tonight.

Postecoglou likely to start Richarlison over Johnson
The Evening Standard reports that Postecoglou faces a choice between Richarlison and Johnson for the spot on the left wing tonight.

It's noted that Johnson was due to be assessed over the weekend after missing Spurs' last two games with a hamstring injury.

As a result, Richarlison is more likely to keep his place off the left alongside Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski.

It's fair to say that Richarlison has largely struggled this season, despite some promising moments.

The Brazil star has been wasteful in front of goal and lost his place as Spurs' No9 to Son earlier in the season.

He's had a bit more joy off the left-hand side though and did put in a brilliant display from the bench against Sheffield United last month.

As for Johnson, he looked bright at the Emirates Stadium but Postecoglou will probably be wary of rushing him back from injury too soon.

What Tottenham need to do vs Fulham to go top of the Premier League again
Tottenham Hotspur go into their London derby against Fulham this evening fourth in the Premier League table, despite leading the way at the start of the weekend.

Wins for Liverpool and Man City took them above the Lilywhites, while Arsenal came from two goals down to rescue a draw away to Chelsea, thus keeping their unbeaten record intact.

That means, we currently have the Citizens at the top of the table with 21 points and a goal difference of 12, followed by Arsenal on the same tally but a goal difference of 10.

Liverpool and Spurs are both one point behind the leaders on 20, with goal differences of 11 and 10 respectively heading into Monday Night Football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What do Spurs need to do to go top again?
While a draw at home to Fulham would take Spurs joint top on points with Man City and Arsenal, they would fall short on goal difference.

A score draw would take Spurs up into second, above Arsenal on goals scored. However, a 0-0 result would see the two North London sides both have 21 points, 10 goal difference, and 18 goals scored.

Normally, it would go down to head-to-head, but the clubs played out a 2-2 draw at the Emirates earlier this season. Therefore, it would go down to away goals in that fixture, inching Spurs ahead.

A win, of course, would take Tottenham back to the summit of the table and two points clear of both Man City and Arsenal, three clear of Liverpool.

Tottenham have dream Premier League title scenario with huge advantage over Man City and Arsenal
Tottenham news - Ange Postecoglou could Spurs secure a major Premier League title advantage over Manchester City and Arsenal

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham will be aiming for an immediate return to the top of the Premier League table as they face Fulham on Monday evening. The Lilywhites currently find themselves in fourth with Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal all picking up points over the weekend with Spurs closing out the first gameweek back from the October international break.

At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Postecoglou has seen his side pick up maximum points from games against Manchester United, Sheffield United and Liverpool as he seeks to avenge the only blemish on his Spurs managerial record. The north Londoners are unbeaten in league action, however they lost to Fulham in the Carabao Cup in August.

Numerous changes were made to the starting team for the clash at Craven Cottage with that remaining as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's start of the season, although that is likely to change. Yves Bissouma picked up a red card in the victory over Luton Town and is therefore suspended with the Dane as the "ready-made" replacement according to Postecoglou.

"We've got some options, certainly Pierre is a ready-made replacement," he said when asked about his thoughts regarding Bissouma's replacement. "He's been training really hard, he's obviously probably wanted to be playing more because he's pretty much been a constant for the last two/three years. But when he has come on for us he's done really well, for me he's the logical one to come in but we've got a couple of sessions to go."

While the Hojbjerg selection seems rather simple, Postecoglou faces a slight dilemma involving Richarlison and Brennan Johnson. The Brazil international has been deployed on the left in place of Johnson since his hamstring injury suffered on his debut against Arsenal and the decision is certainly an important one given the chance Spurs have to give themselves a huge Premier League title advantage.

Although Spurs have been forced to watch their rivals in action, a victory against Fulham will move them back to the summit. The TV selections also mean Tottenham kick off the next weekend of action with a trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace.

Raúl 'desperate to help the team'
Marco Silva isn't worried about Raúl Jiménez's reaction to being dropped from Fulham's starting eleven – insisting that the Mexican international is still 'desperate to help the team'.

Silva selected Carlos Vinicius instead of the former Wolves forward for the win over Sheffield United a fortnight ago after the 32 year-old had gone eight games without a goal since his summer move from Molineux. Jiménez was an unused substitute as the Whites returned to winning ways before the international break – but Silva is confident that the striker has not been adversely affected by being left out.

Speaking ahead of tonight's trip to Tottenham Hotspur, Silva said:

"I don't think Raúl needs a manager to put him on the bench to take the pressure off him. Of course when there are so many games where you haven't scored a goal I understand why people ask the question, but it is never good for a player when they sit on the bench. Players need to feel that pressure is a privilege, because if you start the game it should be a privilege because you have worked so hard to be there.

He wasn't the only change, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Alex Iwobi also started the game. We made changes because we knew that was not going to be too much space in behind. The way we knew Sheffield [United] would approach the game, we decided to use a different profile of a number nine."

All the players need the people, the staff and the management to speak to them. Some need more than others and sometimes this type of conversations make them better. I am the type of manager that has this type of relationship with my players. I am speaking to Raúl and Vinicius as well but I don't think Raúl is desperate to have conversations with me. He is working hard and desperate to help the team and that is the most important thing for me."

Fulham player says he rubs Kaka's shorts on his legs for good luck – No, really, he does
Ahead of tonight's match between Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, ESPN Brasil managed to hold an interview with Whites' midfielder Andreas Pereira.

During the conversation, the player spoke to journalist João Castelo-Branco about a specific idol he has... Brazilian legend Kaka.

Pereira recalled that the first time he met Kaka was long before he joined Fulham, as he was still part of Manchester United's academy.

"It was a Champions League match between Manchester and Real Madrid and I was a ball boy. Alex Ferguson asked the U21 and U18 players if they wanted to be ball boys, because he needed the ball quicker and so on. After the game, I waited and saw Kaká. I asked for his shirt, but he said he'd already changed. Then I said: anything then, a sock, shorts, I don't know," Andreas Pereira told ESPN Brasil.

"He said he had a pair of shorts, I said it would do. He gave it to me, it was incredible, and the shorts are still in a safe to this day. Every now and then, before an important game, I go and get it to give me confidence, to rub it on my leg."

Pereira then revealed a recent episode where he could speak to Kaka again. That happened with his Fulham teammate Willian, who happens to know the former AC Milan and Real Madrid star.

"Two weeks ago, I was at Willian's house and he asked me who I really admired. I said I'd always liked Kaka a lot, because of his style of play, he was an example to me. He said he knew Kaka and said he was going to ring him. I thought: he must be joking. I kept quiet, it put me off. He called, I heard his voice and I couldn't stand it, I cried. I spoke to him, to this day I can't believe I spoke to Kaka. Everyone was in shock.

"Kaka even said that when he came here we were going to do something, and I joked with Willian: don't even call me, I'll freeze at the table. He's always been an idol to me, I've always liked his style. A very special person."

Castelo-Branco then asked if he's taking the shorts to tonight's game against Tottenham for luck against Ange Postecoglou's side, and he doesn't think so.

"I don't know if I will, no. Something might happen to the shorts. I'll leave it at home (laughs)."

Featuring for Fulham this season, Pereira has one goal and one assist in nine appearances, always holding a starting place in Marco Silva's side.

Now in case he has a great game against Tottenham tonight, we may know the big secret for a good individual performance.

Spurs v Fulham | Ange's preview: "I'm looking forward to a cracking atmosphere again on Monday night"
There's a sense of 'home sweet home' for Ange Postecoglou as the team returns to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time in over three weeks as Fulham come to N17 for Monday Night Football in the Premier League this evening (8pm).

Five of our eight unbeaten matches so far in the Premier League have been on the road - Brentford, Bournemouth, Burnley, Arsenal and Luton - with only three home matches since 2023/24 kicked off on 13 August, three wins against United, Sheffield United and Liverpool. By comparison, by this time last season, we'd had eight. It's also Ange's first game in charge under the lights at the stadium.

What's really important is we've got a real tough game on Monday night against a strong Premier League opponent - we have to be ready
Ange Postecoglou

Fulham arrive here sitting 13th with decent away displays so far - they won at Everton and took points at Arsenal and Palace. "They've been really consistent, as they were last season," said Ange, the Premier League's Manager of the Month for August and September. "Marco is an outstanding Premier League manager, and this will be a good test for us.

"We've only had three home games so far, five away from home, so that's been a challenge in itself because we've seen, particularly at our stadium this year, we've had three cracking games and the supporters have helped us in that.

"Whatever the challenge is before you, multiple away games or three in London (our next three are Fulham, Palace and Chelsea), that's the challenge. We just have to maintain real focus around the challenge we have and that we don't allow ourselves to think about what's gone before us and, more importantly, what's too far ahead of us.

"What's really important is we've got a real tough game on Monday night against a strong Premier League opponent. We have to be ready. I'm looking forward to a cracking atmosphere again on Monday night, you know the atmosphere will be super at the stadium and I'm sure the boys are looking forward to it."

Marco Silva now set to hand 23-year-old Fulham player his second league start vs Tottenham
Fulham manager Marco Silva is set to hand defender Calvin Bassey just his second league start for the club against Tottenham Hotspur this evening.

A report from the Standard has shared some early team news from the Whites ahead of a tough trip to North London.

Fulham's record away to Tottenham is nothing to write home about as is generally the case whenever they face any of the Premier League's biggest sides.

Last season's visit ended in a 2-1 defeat and Fulham were outplayed for much of the game before Aleksandar Mitrovic nearly rescued a point late in the match.

He scored a consolation goal before his deflected looping effort was remarkably clawed away by Hugo Lloris.

Both teams will be missing key players going into tonight's match.

Tottenham are missing Yves Bissouma after he was sent off against Luton and has been a revelation this season.

This should give Joao Palhinha the advantage in the middle of the pitch, although his likely replacement Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored in this fixture last season.

Fulham are without both Issa Diop and Tosin Adarabioyo tonight so Calvin Bassey is set to line up alongside Tim Ream against Tottenham tonight.

The £19m defender has looked bright in the few appearances he's made so far this season.

His sending off against Arsenal is the only blemish on his short Fulham career thus far.

Bassey set to start for Fulham vs. Tottenham
The report from the Standard says Fulham are 'set to hand' Bassey a start tonight although Silva doesn't have many other options.

Some fans will be calling for Luc de Fougerolles to be involved in the squad tonight after his impressive performances during pre-season.

The youngster was called up by the Canadian national team during the most recent international break but asking him to step up to play against Tottenham is another matter.

Silva also has to decide whether Ream or Bassey will play on the right-hand side of Fulham's defence against Tottenham tonight.

Ream has formed a fantastic partnership with Antonee Robinson on the left over the years and it's hard to see that being disrupted.

It means Bassey will be working alongside fellow new signing Timothy Castagne who has looked very bright in the absence of Kenny Tete.

Pundits haven't Fulham much hope tonight and history suggests tonight will be a difficult tie.

However, Marco Silva has pulled off some brilliant results during his time at Fulham and is the only manager to have defeated Ange Postecoglou during his tenure so far.

Tottenham post early team news hint for Fulham clash with Yves Bissouma replacement 'confirmed'
Tottenham news - Ange Postecoglou faces a number of team selection decisions for Fulham with one of those appearing to be confirmed

Tottenham take on Fulham on Monday evening where a win will see them return to the top of the Premier League table. Ange Postecoglou and his players have had to watch Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal all pick up points with their last game, the 1-0 win over Luton Town, coming over two weeks ago.

Heading into the October international break, Spurs sat at the summit above the Gunners on goals scored, however wins for Liverpool and Man City, along with a draw for Mikel Arteta's side against Chelsea, now means Spurs are fourth.

However in just four days time, the best-case scenario would see Spurs top by five points as they play Crystal Palace on Friday before all of their Premier League rivals player their tenth game of the season. Picking up six points will be an impressive return in the space of four days given the lack of squad depth Postecoglou has at his disposal.

To help overcome that challenge, Postecoglou will need to rely on the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil, Oliver Skipp and the returning duo of Brennan Johnson and Rodrigo Bentancur with the latter getting closer to his first minutes since February.

In the meantime, Postecoglou is expected to name the same nine players who, minus Pape Matar Sarr and Pedro Porro, that have all started every league game this season. The two spots up for grabs will be left wing and holding midfield with Yves Bissouma suspended, although it is very likely Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg fills in for the latter.

Brennan Johnson and Richarlison meanwhile, will be competing for a spot in the front three with the latter coming in over the last few weeks for Johnson after he picked up a hamstring injury against Arsenal. Ahead of the game, Spurs posted a pre-match graphic which included four regular starters suggesting they will all be in action, despite some injury worries.

Pictured in the post is Destiny Udogie, Sarr, Cristian Romero and James Maddison with the latter two as recent fitness concerns, however Postecoglou has confirmed that no fresh injuries are prominent. While Hojbjerg is expected to be Bissouma's replacement in the starting XI, the player coming into the matchday squad for the Mali international may have been revealed.

In some recent training pictures posted to Instagram, academy starlet Yaya Santiago is shown in action with the senior team at Hotspur Way. While academy stars joining in sessions to make up the numbers is not uncommon, the Spain international is pictured wearing a green bib with Bryan Gil and Oliver Skipp also wearing that colour.

In recent weeks both Skipp and Gil have been on the bench which suggest Santiago could be joining them in the vacant spot left by Bissouma who will have to watch on from the stands.

Former Man United star Andreas Pereira reveals his bizarre pre-match leg-rubbing superstition... and it's all linked to his love for Brazil icon Kaka

Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira has revealed a bizarre pre-match superstition
The former Man United star admitted he keeps a pair of Kaka's shorts in a safe

Andreas Pereira might be able to boast the most bizarre pre-match ritual out of any footballer after revealing he rubs a pair of another player's shorts on his legs before important games.

The Brazilian came through the youth ranks at Manchester United but struggled to cement a regular first-team place and subsequently joined Fulham in a £10m deal last year.

However, his time at the Red Devils gave him the chance to rub shoulders with some of the sport's greatest names and a rare childhood meeting with Brazil icon Kakahas had a lasting impact on the midfielder.

Like many rising stars at clubs, academy youngsters often work pitch-side as ball boys at matches.

Pereira was called on by legendary Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson prior to a Champions League clash against Kaka's Real Madrid side and asked his fellow countryman for a pair of shorts at the end of the game.

Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira has revealed a bizarre pre-match superstition

Pereira explained how he will rub a pair of shorts from Brazil legend Kaka on his legs

Pereira revealed he got the shorts of Kaka while deployed as a ball boy during his Manchester United youth

Now at the age of 27, the Fulham star told ESPN Brasil how he keeps the shorts in a safe but takes them out for important matches and rubs them over his legs to give him confidence.

'It was a Champions League match between Manchester and Real Madrid and I was a ball boy,' explained Pereiera.

Alex Ferguson asked the U21 and U18 players if they wanted to be ball boys, because he needed the ball quicker and so on.

'After the game, I waited and saw Kaka. I asked for his shirt, but he said he'd already changed.

'Then I said: anything then, a sock, shorts, I don't know,' Andreas Pereira told ESPN Brasil.

'He said he had a pair of shorts, I said it would do. He gave it to me, it was incredible, and the shorts are still in a safe to this day.

'Every now and then, before an important game, I go and get them to give me confidence, to rub on my leg.'

Kaka is an idol in Brazil after winning the World Cup at 20-years-old with the South American nation in 2002. He starred for Real Madrid and AC Milan during an established career before retiring at the age of 35.

Pereira further explained how he started crying when his Fulham team-mate Willian (pictured) called Kaka so they could speak

However, his star status still has Pereira feeling like a child after the Fulham midfielder further explained he started crying after his club team-mate Willian called Kaka while the pair were relaxing together.

'Two weeks ago, I was at Willian's house and he asked me who I really admired,' added Pereira.

'I said I'd always liked Kaka a lot, because of his style of play, he was an example to me. He said he knew Kaka and said he was going to ring him. I thought: he must be joking.

'I kept quiet, it put me off. He called, I heard his voice and I couldn't stand it, I cried. I spoke to him, to this day I can't believe I spoke to Kaka. Everyone was in shock,' he said.

Up next: Tottenham Hotspur (a)
Fulham will look to end their woeful winless streak in London derbies by surprising Tottenham Hotspur for the second time this season in front of the Sky cameras in N17 this evening. Marco Silva has insisted that the August penalty shoot-out victory over Ange Postecoglou's side in the League Cup will have no bearing on this evening's encounter – which is the correct assessment given how many changes both sides made – but it should offer a confidence boost ahead of what the Fulham head coach describes as 'a tough challenge' for his team.

That lively evening under the lights at Craven Cottage remains Postecoglou's only defeat since he moved south having beaten all comers in a superb season with Celtic and the Australian has adjusted seamlessly to the task of Premier League management – adjusting to the lose of Harry Kane in exemplary fashion. Spurs sit top of the table after winning six of their opening eight games, boasting an identical record to lauded local rivals Arsenal, and have earned Postecoglou, whose suitably for Old Firm management was questioned after his appointment by the Bhoys, a pair of manager of the month awards.

There will be no immediate reunion with Manor Solomon, who had to have knee surgery before the international break, whilst teenage sensation Ryan Sessegnon suffered an ACL injury in the summer. The hosts will also be without Rodrigo Bentancur, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma with the latter missing this evening after being sent off in the win at Luton a fortnight ago. Postecoglou can call upon the services of the superb Son Hueng-Min and defender Cristian Romero whilst former Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson is available for selection having had a spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring complaint.

The task for Fulham is clear – preventing free-scoring Spurs from playing with the style and vibrancy that has characterised their flawless early-season form. Quietening Son and the in-form James Maddison would help, but the hosts have an array of creativity talent as well as demonstrating an ability to conjure up crucial goals, such as the ones that saw them come from behind to beat break Sheffield United's hearts in stoppage time last month. The assignment is made all the trickier by the fact that Silva will be missing a host of central defenders. Issa Diop's foot problem, that rendered him unable to continue against the Blades, will keep him out for some time and Tosin Adarabioyo is still some way away from returning from a groin problem.

That will mean a reorganisation at the heart of Fulham's usual defence with Calvin Bassey likely to be paired with Tim Ream. The Nigerian international has only made a single league start since his £18m move from Ajax in the summer – and that saw him harshly sent off at Arsenal in August. Bassey, like Ream a decidedly left-footed centre half, impressed with a forward-thinking display against the Blades but his Premier League credentials will be sorely tested against a team as talented as Tottenham. The Whites will also be without the League Cup penalty hero with Kenny Tete still making his way back from a groin injury, with Timmy Castagne set to deputise at right back.

Silva will have something of a conundrum to solve in central midfield. Alex Iwobi added vitality and dynamism to the engine room when paired with Joao Palhinha against Sheffield United before the international break – and Fulham's midfield depth looks strong with Tom Cairney, who came off the bench to clinch a crucial win over Paul Heckingbottom's outfit, Harrison Reed and fit-again Sasa Lukic battling for a start. Iwobi, who made his name in the red half of north London, might even be a natural fit for the number ten role where Andreas Pereira has flattered to deceive for much of this campaign but the Brazilian's brilliant ball to Bobby De Cordova-Reid a fortnight ago showed just what an asset the attacking midfielder can be.

De Cordova-Reid should keep his place after an outstanding return to the starting line-up before the international break. Harry Wilson's brilliant brace helped keep Wales' European Championship qualifying hopes alive last week, but the winger hasn't hit the heights of how he finished last season in a Fulham shirt yet this term. Silva has suggested he is likely to keep faith with former Tottenham forward Carlos Vinicius up front – but the Fulham boss views the Brazilian duo of Vinicius and Rodrigo Muniz, a lively substitute against Sheffield United, as competing with Raul Jimenez on a game-by-game basis even if the Mexican has failed to find the net since his summer move from Wolves.

The Whites head into this contest as distinctly second favourites on account of Spurs' blistering start to the new season – but they have already demonstrated that it is possible to pose problems for Postecoglou and you feel that this version of Fulham, who haven't won a derby since the departed Aleksandar Mitrovic's stoppage time header beat Brentford last August, are likely to be more effective away from home against opponents who take risks. They posed Arsenal plenty of problems in adversity earlier this season – and won't lack belief despite it being ten years since the Whites won at Tottenham courtesy of a predatory finish from former Spurs superstar Dimitar Berbatov. A repeat showing this evening would be some statement.

MY FULHAM XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Castagne, A. Robinson, Ream, Bassey; Palhinha, Iwobi; De Cordova-Reid, Willian, Pereira; Vinicus. Subs: Rodak, Ballo-Toure, de Fougerolles, Lukic, Reed, Cairney, Wilson, Jimenez, Muniz.

Ange Postecoglou told he has three Tottenham undroppables in quest to win Premier League title
Ange Postecoglou told he has three Tottenham undroppables in quest to win Premier League title

Tottenham return to Premier League action tonight after more than two weeks without a game due to the international break. Spurs welcome Fulham to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, knowing a victory will take them back to the top of the Premier League table.

And, after results at the weekend, Spurs can go two points clear of their rivals with a win over the Cottagers. Spurs play first next weekend too, a Friday night trip across the capital to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace makes it a busy few days, but back-to-back wins will see them open up a five-point gap at the top of the table, albeit then having played a game more than the rest.

New boss Ange Postecoglou has enjoyed an almost faultless start to life in England thus far, but knows he is working with a relatively thin squad compared to others. Injuries or suspensions to key players could end any hopes of a title charge before it has begun.

Spurs will no doubt be busy in the January transfer window, with the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Son Heung-min all due to be missing due to the African Cup of Nations and the Asian Cup taking place in January and early February.

Former Tottenham man Jamie O'Hara believes injuries to certain players could end any hopes of the Premier League trophy finally making its way to N17. And O'Hara named the most important trio of them all.

He told Grosvenor Sport: "If Spurs can stay in touch with Manchester City and Arsenal until January, Daniel Levy may look at the situation and realise that they actually have half a chance of challenging for the title. That could make him go out and spend some money on solid reinforcements. Then I think Spurs would have a chance of winning the league.

"They have a similar situation to Arsenal last season in that if they lose a couple of key players to injury they'll be in a lot of trouble. If they lose James Maddison to injury, they're finished. Similarly, if they lose Son Heung-min or Cristian Romero, they're finished. The good thing for Spurs is that they don't have any European football so there is a good chance that everyone will stay fit."

Andreas Pereira reveals bizarre pre-match ritual which involves rubbing object on his leg
Fulham star Andreas Pereira revealed a bizarre pre-match ritual which he undergoes ahead of important games.

Tottenham host Fulham in the Premier League on Monday evening, hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Ange Postecoglou's men went into the international break top of the Premier League table after claiming six wins and two draws from their opening eight encounters.

Meanwhile, Fulham have endured an inconsistent season so far, though did knock Spurs out of the Carabao Cup on penalties earlier this season.

Should Pereira feature in Marco Silva's line-up for the Monday evening kick-off, he may undergo his pre-match routine of rubbing Brazil legend Kaka's shorts on his legs.

Indeed, speaking to ESPN Brazil ahead of the game Pereira recalled meeting the iconic midfielder, and how it led to one of the more peculiar pre-match routines.

Pereira said: "It was a Champions League match between Manchester and Real Madrid and I was a ball boy.

"Alex Ferguson asked the U21 and U18 players if they wanted to be ball boys because he needed the ball quicker and so on. After the game, I waited and saw Kaka. I asked for his shirt, but he said he'd already changed. Then I said: anything then, a sock, shorts, I don't know.

Pereira also opened up about a recent episode where he was able to speak to Kaka once more, thanks to Fulham team-mate and compatriot Willian.

He said: "Two weeks ago, I was at Willian's house and he asked me who I really admired. I said I'd always liked Kaka a lot, because of his style of play, he was an example to me.

"He said he knew Kaka and said he was going to ring him.

When asked if he's taking the shorts to the game against Tottenham, Pereira said: "I don't know if I will, no. Something might happen to the shorts. I'll leave them at home."
