Nicolo Zaniolo must not start for Aston Villa again after anonymous display against AZ Alkmaar
Aston Villa came from behind to win their Europa League clash against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday 9 November, thanks to goals from Diego Carlos and Ollie Watkins.

It was far from plain sailing for Unai Emery's side as they fell behind early in the second period courtesy of a goal from Evangelos Pavlidis, but ultimately they had enough quality to bounce back from their defeat to Nottingham Forest.

One player that was introduced late in the contest by Emery as he looked to salvage a result was Nicolo Zaniolo, with the Italian replacing Moussa Diaby with just over 15 minutes left in the match and it was a night to forget for the 24-year-old.

In his brief cameo, Zaniolo only managed to complete two accurate passes from his 14 touches and failed to carry any sort of goal threat as he saw his only shot comfortably saved from the edge of the penalty area by Mathew Ryan [Fotmob].

The Italian is known for his technical ability on the ball and is a very technically gifted dribbler, but only completed one of his three attempted efforts at Villa Park as he was dispossessed four times, more than any other attacker playing in claret and blue.

In total, the Villa midfielder lost possession six times in the match, meaning he was losing the ball more than once every three minutes as Emery's side desperately searched for a crucial winning goal.

Zaniolo was unable to provide a defensive presence from the right wing either, as he failed to win his only tackle, while he also lost both of his aerial duels in the match. Perhaps most worryingly for Emery and Aston Villa supporters, the 24-year-old only won two of his eight ground battles.

Sadly, this sloppiness is by no means a new issue for the Italian international. Over the last year, he has placed in the bottom two per cent of Europe's attacking midfielders in terms of passes attempted and pass completion percentage per 90 minutes [Fbref].

Despite his tendency to attempt to run at defenders with the ball at his feet, he's only successful with 1.27 take-ons per game, a figure that places him in the 28th percentile of his positional peers in Europe's top five leagues.

Given the immense attacking talent at the disposal of Emery, Zaniolo cannot start for Aston Villa against Fulham on Sunday (12 November) especially ahead of the likes of Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby. Too often he has been far too wasteful both in and out of possession.

The Italian didn't fare much better against Forest last time out in the Premier League, losing the most duels in the match and you have to wonder if he spurned his chance to return to the starting XI with his anonymous cameo against AZ Alkmaar.

Jay Stansfield receives Young Lions selection
Men's international call-up: Jay Stansfield

Jay Stansfield has been called up for England's Elite League squad.
Blues' on-loan frontman, the scorer of five goals since arriving from Fulham in August including a winner on his debut against Plymouth Argyle, has been rewarded for his fine start to life in the Sky Bet Championship with deserved international recognition.

Ben Futcher's Young Lions are set to play Italy Under-20s at the Eco Power Stadium in Doncaster on Thursday 16 November, kick-off 7pm, before facing Germany on Monday 20 November, kick-off 5pm, at the Continental Arena in Regensburg.

Stansfield has previously represented England at both Under-18s and Under-20s level, most recently playing for the latter - newly titled Elite League squad - in March 2022.

Good luck, Jay!

Aston Villa v Fulham injury news as four out and five doubts - gallery
Latest injury and team news ahead of Aston Villa vs Fulham in the Premier League

Aston Villa hope to round off a good week as they host Fulham at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday, November 12.

The Villains have put themselves in a good position to progress to the UEFA Europa Conference League knock-out rounds after defeating AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night. Villa fell behind to Vangelis Pavlidis effort but Diego Carlos equalised and then Ollie Watkins won it 10 minutes from time. Villa remain in second behind Legia Warszawa but are six points clear of Zrinjski and Alkmaar, and a win next time out would confirm their place into the next phase.

Fulham are hoping to make the most of any tiring legs from Thursday, and come into the game off the back of a late defeat to Manchester United. Bruno Fernandes scored in stoppage time at Craven Cottage to leave the Cottagers empty handed having been under the cosh for most of the game.

Ten places and 10 points separate the two sides going in to the match with Villa in fifth and Fulham in 15th. Marco Silva's side are six points above safety, whilst Villa are just two points off of a Champions League spot. Last weeks defeat to Nottingham Forest derailed Villa's progress a slight bit, but after winning in midweek they should be in good spirits, as they aim to finish on a high going into the November international break.

The last time the two sides met there were wins apiece in the 2022/23 campaign. Fulham won 3-0 back in October 2022 when Steven Gerrard was in charge and then Tyrone Mings scored the only goal as Villa beat Fulham in the most recent meeting in April 2023.

Are there any knocks to consider from Villa's win against Alkmaar? Are any Fulham players nursing any injuries having missed the United defeat? Without any further ado, here's the latest injury and team news from both the Aston Villa and Fulham camps ahead of kick-off on Sunday.

1. Jacob Ramsey - out

Jacob Ramsey has suffered a recurrence of that broken metatarsal injury he suffered whilst on duty with the England under-21's in the summer.

2. Jacob Ramsey - out (continued)

Unai Emery said on November 8: "After the next international break, I think he's going to be available to start training with the players and to be close to being in the squad for the matches."

3. Diego Carlos

Scored in the 2-1 win against Alkmaar but was replaced in stoppage time by Pau Torres which seemed to be an enforced change. He's already had a brief spell out this season in September, missing three games.

4. Diego Carlos - doubtful

Unai Emery said on November 10: "He was telling us a small problem but I don't have any more information. "Hopefully small injury, we have to check tomorrow to see his injury."

5. Issa Diop - out (continued)

Centre-back Issa Diop is set to miss out. He has missed the last three matches with a foot/ankle injury. Marco Silva said on October 27: "Issa will take more time.'

6. Tosin Adarabioyo - doubtful

The centre-back has played just one minute of Premier League football this season, and that came as a substitute against Arsenal. He's missed 10 games in total having required surgery on his groin, and he's a major doubt for this weekend. He's been given a 25% chance of playing according to the Premier League's Fantasy Football game.

7. Tosin Adarabioyo - doubtful (continued)

Marco Silva said on October 27: "Good to see him back on the grass. Of course, not fully involved with the team. "I think in one or two weeks, he is going to be fully involved with the squad."

8. Tyrone Mings - out

Likely to be out for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign after suffering a serious knee injury.

9. Emiliano Buendia - out

Buendia is out for the season after undergoing surgery on a serious knee injury.

10. Adama Traore - doubtful

Adama Traore has been sidelined for an extended period with a hamstring injury. He hasn't played since the start of September, and has missed nine games in total. Marco Silva put him in to contention last week but he didn't feature in the squad against Manchester United.

11. Adama Traore - doubtful

Marco Silva said on November 3: Adama is in the last steps of [his] recovery. I'm going to make a decision on whether [he] will be involved in the squad.'"

12. Kenny Tete - doubtful

The 28-year-old right-back has missed the last two months with a groin problem. His last match was in the middle of September against Luton Town, and since then he's been sidelined for eight games.

13. Kenny Tete - doubtful (continued)

Marco Silva said on November 3: "Kenny is in the last steps of [his] recovery. "I'm going to make a decision on whether [he] will be involved in the squad."

14. Rodrigo Muniz - doubtful

Came off in the 76th minute in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in what was his first start of the Premier League season. He cut an emotional figure when he was replaced but was able to walk off without any assistance.

15. Rodrigo Muniz - doubtful (continued)

Marco Silva said on November 4: "We don't know yet. "It's too soon. I hope it's nothing serious. "His debut in the Premier League in the starting XI, and he did very well.'

"Important" - Fulham ready to pay release clause for "unbelievable" player
It seems fairly affordable in today's market.

Fulham are now willing to pay one club's release clause to sign one of manager Marco Silva's "unbelievable" transfer targets, according to reports.

Fulham rumours heading into January
Over the last month, there have been rumours of some names that could come in and bolster Silva's ranks at Craven Cottage. The gossip mill continues to spin as we head towards the January window, and recent claims suggest that the Whites are keen on signing a striker, centre-back and midfield player.

Most worryingly, only Burnley have scored less goals than Fulham so far this season, with the likes of Carlos Vinicius and Raul Jimenez bagging just one between them over their Premier League appearances.

A new forward could be seen as a major priority for the winter, with both Gent striker Gift Orban and in-form Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy linked with moves to west London. Meanwhile, defender Tosin Adarabioyo is attracting interest from the likes of Tottenham again, prompting Fulham to reportedly look at Sebastien Cacares as an alternative from Club America.

In central midfield, Southampton star Carlos Alcaraz is a player who allegedly has admirers at Fulham, while Fluminese star Andre is name that refuses to go away.

Fulham willing to pay Andre price
According to journalist Emmanuel Luiz, speaking to The Redmen TV YouTube channel this week, Fulham are "ready" to pay Andre's release clause of £40 million. There may be a caveat, as the Brazilian reporter claims Andre himself is far more interested in joining Liverpool, but it is believed that the "unbelievable" 22-year-old (Nathan Joyes) will play for any club that makes the best offer to Fluminese.

"So I'm going to be loud and clear for you guys. We already talked about £40m being the release clause," said Luiz on Andre's future.

"Fulham and Liverpool were in the race, Andre really wanted Liverpool in the middle of the year, it remains really clear, Andre wants Liverpool, but the most important thing right now, Andre wants Liverpool, but Fulham, and I confirmed this, I spoke to some guys at the club and they said that Andre will play for the club that makes the best offer to Fluminense.

"He wants Liverpool, and Liverpool wants to pay like £30m, but what Fulham did, they said to Fluminense, he has a £40m release clause, what we want to do as Fulham is to pay the release clause and have some sort of add-on clause."

Andre praised
The South American starlet has been starring for his club in the Brazilian Serie A over these last 12 months, and if Fulham want to sign a new midfielder, they could do far worse than Andre.

As per journalist Fernando Campos, writing on X, the player is standing out as the "best midfielder" in his country right now.

"Pressure and playing with the confidence of someone who knows they are different. Get out of the way and make the team work. André Trindade is the best midfielder in the country and is a monster of a player."

Stansfield starts, 4-2-3-1: The predicted Birmingham City XI to face Sunderland
Here's how we think the Blues will line-up against Sunderland

Birmingham City, under manager Wayne Rooney, are still looking for their first win but came close against Ipswich Town last weekend.
Their next match is against promotion-chasing Sunderland, who have an experienced squad and high ambitions.
FLW expects Birmingham City's starting XI to include key players like John Ruddy, Ethan Laird, and Jay Stansfield, who have been performing well for the team.

Birmingham City face another big test under Wayne Rooney when they take on Sunderland on Saturday.

The Blues are still winless under their new boss, but they came very close to beating one of the top sides in the division last weekend in Ipswich Town. Goals in the 79th and 89th minutes by Marcus Harness denied Rooney his first three points as Birmingham manager.

Their games don't get any easier as they face another promotion-chasing team in the form of the Black Cats. Tony Mowbray got his young crop of players into the playoffs this season, and, with some reinforcements that Blues fans will be all too familiar with, Sunderland are hoping for more again this year.

After a good performance against Ipswich, this is how FLW expects Birmingham City's starting XI to look against Sunderland.

GK: John Ruddy
The veteran between the sticks provides everything you'd want from a goalkeeper of his profile. He's a dependable and solid option. That reliability is a very useful thing to have when results aren't going your way.

RB: Ethan Laird
Getting Laird back from injury was such a big boost for the Blues. The Ipswich match was his first game since the middle of August.

He's a quality full-back, arguably one of the best in the league on his day, and he will help the new boss further integrate the attacking football that he was brought in to implement.

CB: Dion Sanderson
The captain may have not been at the same level since John Eustace's departure, but Sanderson has more than proven his worth to this team.

The 23-year-old is strong in the tackle, and in the air, he rarely ever gets dribbled past, and is more than capable when on the ball.

CB: Emmanuel Aiwu
The loanee has come into favour with the new boss over the last couple of games, with Kevin Long taking to the bench in recent weeks.

Aiwu appears to be a bit more comfortable taking up a slightly wider position when in possession, and this looks to be better suited to how Rooney wants his side to play.

LB: Cody Drameh
Drameh is another example of the potential and the quality that is in this squad. The 21-year-old, who helped Luton Town to promotion last season, filled in well for Laird during his absence.

Luckily for Birmingham, he's looked pretty comfortable on the left-hand flank too.

CDM: Jordan James
Having Krystian Bielik missing until after the international break, due to suspension, will be frustrating for Blues.

James is a capable replacement, however, and his performance against Ipswich showed that.

CDM: Ivan Šunjič
Similarly to Bielik, the Croatian midfielder has proven himself to be a worthy candidate for the starting XI most weeks.

He's not featured in just two league games; one was a draw with QPR, and the other was a loss to Hull City.

RM: Koji Miyoshi
The Japanese winger was part of the exciting summer recruitment that Birmingham embarked upon.

He's been one of the club's best and most consistent performers this season, with two goals and two assists in the Championship.

LM: Juninho Bacuna
Bacuna missed the loss against Southampton due to a yellow card suspension but his return against Kieran McKenna's side showed the quality and creativity he can bring to this team.

He forced the Cameron Burgess own goal and he showed a decent defensive work rate.

AM: Oliver Burke
With the usual tendency of Birmingham's young striker Jay Stansfield to be to drift out to the wings, having someone like Burke through the middle allows his forward partner to do what he does best.

The Scotsman offers a physical presence through the middle that compliments the skills of the team's number nine.

ST: Jay Stansfield
The young Fulham loanee has shown that he belongs in this league.

Five goals in 12 games is a brilliant start and there are no signs of Stansfield slowing down.

Chris Sutton makes 'surprising' Aston Villa point ahead of Fulham clash
Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Chris Sutton has his say on the Villans' clash against Fulham on Sunday

Aston Villa will go in search of a 13th consecutive home league win when they host Fulham on Sunday.

Unai Emery's side have made Villa Park a fortress this season as they chase a top four finish, although those hopes were dented last weekend when they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

However, pundit Chris Sutton has backed the Villans to bounce back from their disappointing defeat at the City Ground as they return to home comforts when they host Marco Silva's team on Sunday. He's gone with a 2-0 win for Villa.

"Fulham were only beaten by a stoppage-time goal against Manchester United last weekend but I'm still not convinced by them, especially in attack," he told BBC Sport.

"I was surprised to see Aston Villa lose at Nottingham Forest, but we all know how good they are at home, where they have won five out of five this season, scoring 20 goals.

"Villa need to get back on track if they are going to keep pushing for the top four, and that's what I think will happen."

Fulham's Muniz faces spell out with knee injury
Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz is expected to be sidelined for up to a month after injuring his knee is last Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Manchester United.

The Brazilian has struggled for game time since joining the club in 2021 and spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough.

He kept his place in the side following an impressive cameo from the bench at Brighton and a fine display in the Carabao Cup win over Ipswich.

However, he limped off in tears at Craven Cottage after slipping in the second half against United, and Whites boss Marco Silva admits it's a bitter blow given the club's struggles in front of goal this season.

"It's not really serious but it is going to take him out of the next few games," Silva said.

"It's an injury you need to be careful with, but it is going to be a few games out.

"The international break is going to help us and although it is difficult to give an accurate time frame, I would say he will miss three or four weeks. It is tough for a young lad He is so disappointed.

"It is big blow for us. The boy was growing and even in pre-season he looked so sharp but got another little injury. He took his time, waited for his chance and he was ready."

"Unfortunately it is another injury to an important player. But I am here to find solutions how to win a football match."

Silva's side are away to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Before The Whistle: Aston Villa v Fulham

It's a tough one this weekend against one of the league's in-form sides. Everything seems to be falling into place at Villa Park – and they're looking for their 13th straight win there. Unlucky for some – but will it be unlucky for us?

One man who's certainly unlucky is Rodrigo Muniz. Silva says the Brazillian will be out of action for three-to-four weeks after her came off last weekend. It remains to be seen who'll replace him up top.

There was a slightly different make-up to our midfield against Man United; Silva must decide whether he wants Lukic or Reed to return alongside Joao Palhinha, or whether Iwobi will continue in that role. Regardless, the Nigerian international must retain a place in the XI.

Elsewhere, Kenny Tete was pictured in training this week and Silva hinted he might make the squad, but it's doubtful he dislodges Castagne, who has impressed in his absence. In a welcome boost, Silva also said Adama and Tosin may also be nearing returns.

This is the last fixture before yet another international break. Bar trips to Anfield and St. James' Park, our December fixtures are looking more forgiving – but the pressure is on to gather some points, or the complexion of this season starts to look very different.

Team News: Muniz Sidelined

Rodrigo Muniz is set for a spell on the sidelines after injuring his knee against Manchester United last weekend.

The striker was visibly distressed after his full Premier League debut came to a premature end, but the timing of the impending international break hopefully means he won't miss too many fixtures.

"It's not really, really serious, but it's going to prevent him from being involved in the next few games," Marco Silva revealed.

"Injuring the knee, you have to be careful. We assessed him and the feedback that I got from the medical staff is that he's going to be a few games out.

"Of course, the international break is going to help us. Probably after the international break, maybe one or two weeks and he's going to be back.

"It's difficult to give a really clear timeline to you about his situation, but let's talk about three or four weeks for him to be back, let's hope."

There was optimism that at least one of Tosin, Kenny Tete or Adama Traoré could be in the matchday squad for the meeting with United. That did not transpire, but Silva will make a decision on each of the trio ahead of Sunday's trip to Aston Villa.

"We have another session [on Saturday] and I'm going to decide," he explained. "If you ask me if they are ready for 90 minutes, no, but I can decide for them to be involved in the squad list at least, to start to be part of it.

"I believe after the international break, all three are going to be ready to start. The good thing is that they are fully involved with the team in the sessions.

"It's been a long break for all of them, the situation is that they need more time to be ready for the 90, if that's what I decide.

"Another player that is going to need more time is Issa Diop."

The press conference: Emery previews Fulham
Unai Emery spoke to media at Bodymoor Heath on Friday afternoon as he looked ahead to Sunday's Premier League encounter against Fulham.

Aston Villa's head coach discussed Thursday night's Europa Conference League victory over AZ Alkmaar, responding to last weekend's defeat at Nottingham Forest, our home form at Villa Park, what he expects from the Cottagers and provided an update on the latest team news.

Here's what he had to say...

On bouncing back from Forest and analysis meetings...
"I am always trying to be consistent with my plan and trying to be better today than yesterday, and tomorrow better than today.

"These messages are always in my mind and I'm repeating them to the players.

"And then we try to practice and analyse deeply each match and, of course, we have to try to be consistent about why we are not being consistent away, why we are not winning or close to winning the match we played in Nottingham.

"Firstly, analyse this because we have to respect the opponent and we have to try and stop the gameplan the opponent is trying to impose.

"And we have to accept we can't win every match and we can lose some matches, but we have to try to win more matches than we lose. And move on.

"We were analysing the match against AZ Alkmaar at the beginning and we finished this morning speaking about it. We're going to add the two matches against Legia Warszawa and Zrinjski.

"But now is Fulham and I'm going to analyse Fulham with the players, but my analysis is always two deductions.

"Firstly, try to analyse ourselves and how we can face the match on Sunday. Secondly, try to analyse the opponent and how we can adapt to them and try to impose our idea with their gameplan."

On Fulham...
"I respect Fulham a lot. The history of Fulham, the players of Fulham and the coach, who is a very good coach, experienced coach.

"They're a very organised team, competitive team, they're playing well.

"They lost against Manchester United at home in their last match but they deserved more. They drew against Arsenal one month ago at the Emirates and everything they were doing, everything we're analysing of them, really is to be admired and to respect them a lot.

"On Sunday, I know it's going to be a very difficult match and the players always have to be confident, have to practice trying to feel confident like we are playing.

"And very focused and very demanding in 90 minutes.

"We have to use the starting XI players and we have to take some players on the bench and be really demanding when we need to impact with them."

On team news...
"Diego Carlos, I don't know exactly, he's not going to be available for Sunday. Maybe it's a small injury, maybe, but it'll be difficult to be available for Sunday.

"Jacob Ramsey is progressing very well, he's close to being with us in training sessions every day. But not yet.

"And Álex Moreno is progressing very good, he's available to be in the squad and he's available to be ready to play Sunday.

"Other players, they are available and ready to play."

Aston Villa v Fulham

TEAM NEWS
Central defender Diego Carlos is a doubt for Aston Villa, having been substituted with a minor injury during Thursday's European win over AZ.

Fit-again left-back Alex Moreno awaits his first outing since suffering a serious hamstring problem in May.

Rodrigo Muniz faces several weeks out for Fulham after injuring his knee against Manchester United last weekend.

Tosin Adarabioyo, Kenny Tete and Adama Traore could return to the matchday squad but are unlikely to start.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head

Fulham's only league victory in their past 19 visits to Villa Park came in April 2014 (D7, L11). They have lost on all four subsequent trips.
Aston Villa are on a run of four straight home wins against Fulham: two in the Premier League and two in the Championship.

Aston Villa

Villa are vying to win a 13th top-flight home game in a row for the first time in 40 years.
Unai Emery's side can equal the club record of 21 Premier League victories in a calendar year, set in 1998. Only Manchester City have won more often in 2023.
They could also start a season with six straight home league wins for the first time since 1959. They last managed this in the top flight in 1932.
Aston Villa have scored three goals or more in each of their five Premier League home matches in 2023-24. The only side to do so in six successive home fixtures from the beginning of a season is Manchester City last year.
The Villans are unbeaten in the past 19 Premier League games in which they took the lead, including seven wins out of seven this season .
A sixth league win in a row against London opposition would be an unprecedented feat for Aston Villa.
Douglas Luiz has provided a goal or assist in each of Villa's seven home league matches since the 1-0 win against Fulham in April. It's the longest run ever by an Aston Villa player in the Premier League.

Fulham

Fulham have only won five of their 85 Premier League away fixtures against sides starting the day in the top six (D22, L58).
All three of their league victories this season were against teams who start the weekend below them in the table.
However, the Cottagers are yet to suffer consecutive league defeats in 2023-24.
They only have nine league goals this season and are on a run of seven successive games without scoring in the first half.
Raul Jimenez has gone 33 Premier League appearances without a goal since scoring in Wolves' 4-0 home win against Watford in March 2022.
Timothy Castagne is one short of making 100 Premier League appearances.

Marco Silva fires Aston Villa warning and explains Fulham demand
Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Marco Silva determined to get win at Villa Park ahead of Premier League encounter

Fulham boss Marco Silva has demanded his side be the first team to take points from Aston Villa at Villa Park this weekend.

Unai Emery's side are yet to lose at Villa Park since February as they host Fulham on Sunday (2pm). Nottingham Forest ended Villa's six-game unbeaten run last weekend, but a win could see them claim their 13th straight home win.

As for Fulham, they will be keen to put a stop to a three-game winless run, having last beat Sheffield United last month. Silva is keen for his side to cause an upset at B6 and put a stop to Villa's form.

Silva said: "They have been so dominant and achieved such good results, it's impressive. They haven't lost any points (at home), we want to be the first ones to do it."

Striker Rodrigo Muniz will miss the game through a knee injury but Silva has asked his players to step up in his absence. "Some details are going against us," he added.

"We have to score more goals and the goals have to come from all the team."

Pre-Aston Villa Press Conference
Marco Silva's respect for Unai Emery means that he has not been surprised by Aston Villa's start to the season.

Their home form has been flawless, with their five games at Villa Park yielding 15 points and 20 goals – in fact, you have to go back to February for the last time they dropped points on their own patch.

"Impressive, impressive," was Silva's assessment of their campaign to date. "I'm not surprised, because I know [Emery] very well, I know his quality, I know what he's been doing so far in all his career.

"I remember him from Seville, when it was the first time I played against him. Of course, the impact has been huge in that football club.

"All the results they have been achieving have been great for them. At home, it's been impressive the way they have been so dominant and the way they have been playing against many, many sides, and different types of sides – so dominant and achieving some very good results, it's been impressive.

"12 [home wins] in a row, this season five in a row as well. They haven't lost points until now – we want to be the first ones to do it.

"If you have five games at home and you score 20 goals, the numbers speak for themselves. It means they have been creating, they have been scoring, they're being really effective, ruthless in that type of situation.

"It's up to us to keep our good organisation, to be aggressive off the ball. On the ball we have to express ourselves and to deliver what we are going to plan to do.

"It's a challenge ahead of us, clearly. That's the feedback that we are sharing with the players, and the players are sharing with us that we want to be the first ones.

"They want the opposite, they want to keep the same form, and it's going to be a great challenge for us."

Asked if the opportunity to end Villa's home run can be an incentive for the Fulham players, Silva replied: "100 per cent, and we like this type of challenge, to be honest.

"The first time we met after Man United, straightaway [the players] got my feedback, what was going to be our week, what is going to be our goal, what we want for the weekend as well. And we really enjoy this type of challenge.

"When you look on paper, of course you see Villa at Villa Park are amazing. A great atmosphere to play football, home support is going to be great, we know all these situations, but it's a great place to go and to enjoy the challenge.

"We know their home form has been impressive, has been really good, but it's a perfect challenge to test ourselves. To be at the level that we want to be, you have to play these type of games."

Injury Expert drops Douglas Luiz fitness view ahead of Aston Villa v Fulham
We're delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he'll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa...

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has been working tremendously hard behind the scenes to keep himself fit, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that a lot goes into keeping a footballer away from setbacks and things like mitigating stress and hours of sleep also play a huge role.

A stat emerged at the end of October, showing just how impressive his record is – not missing a single game through injury since 2019.

Speaking about his injury, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:

"Luiz has been impeccable with his availability, making more appearances than any other Villa player since joining.

"What typically leads to a remarkable fitness record is great health habits and discipline off the pitch – including strength and conditioning work, nutrition, sleep, mitigating stress and so on.

"Even for the Fulham game he's fit and expected to play."

Unai Emery will undoubtedly be fortunate to have the Brazilian on his books and he appears to be the model professional in training as well.

This season, he has started in all 11 Premier League games and despite being a deep-lying midfielder, has found the back of the net on five occasions.

He's also provided an assist and it's fair to say that he's among the first names on the team sheet for Emery and the Spaniard can rely him not just to deliver on the field but also in terms of his fitness.

He's likely to start in the 12 November game against Fulham as well.

'Watch out' – Fulham interest in player has club rubbing their hands, 'sensational capital gain on horizon'
Fulham are one of the clubs who are interested in Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson, according to reports.

The information is brought by Italian newspaper Tuttosport, who today have a big story on the player's good season in Serie A.

The outlet claims that in case he continues doing so well, the chase for him is set to be quite big next summer.

Fulham are one of the clubs who are interested in him for some time, with the piece claiming they should 'watch out' for the Whites, with Nottingham Forest and Juventus also keeping an eye on the player.

Bologna only spent €3.5m to sign Ferguson from Aberdeen in the summer of 2022, and as he's now valued by Transfermarkt at €12m, Tuttosport talks about the 'sensational capital gain on horizon'.

The midfielder is happy at Bologna for now, but it's made clear that an opportunity to get back to the UK could end up attracting him.

Now we shall see whether Fulham and others will actually place bids for his signing in the coming months.

Fulham given "major lift" in transfer race for "quick" star
There pathway has opened up.

A report this week has suggested that Fulham may have been given a "major lift" in their pursuit of a Marco Silva transfer target.

Ambitious Fulham seek to climb
The Whites have been making some serious strides off-the-field recently as they aim to climb up the Premier League table and potentially challenge in cup competitions. Last month, Fulham secured a real boost in this respect by tying down head coach Silva with a brand new contract which will run until 2026.

The Portuguese was attracting rumoured interest from the likes of Spurs, before they appointed Ange Postecoglou, but now any interested side won't have the leverage of an expiring contract to try and sway him away from Craven Cottage.

"It's what I would like to leave one day when I leave the club, everyone is going to remember ourselves and our work," said Silva on his ambition at Fulham.

"I would like to leave a legacy. With titles it's going to be much better, it's going to be perfect, but you know our reality, you know that we are Fulham, for us to fight for titles you have two chances, they are going to be the cups, you have to be realistic.

"And even the cups, you know that you have probably a big number of clubs more favourite than us to get that title. But to know that [we go] game-by-game and we have to look for it with full ambition."

Fulham also managed to keep star midfielder Joao Palhinha out of Bayern Munich's clutches in the summer window, again showcasing their determination to improve as a club.

The west Londoners currently have gaps in quality across the striking position, midfield and defence, but Silva is apparently looking to rectify that with potential moves for Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy and Fluminese star Andre.

Fulham given "major lift" in race for Andre
According to a report by TEAMtalk this week, sharing an update on the latter target, Fulham may have been handed a "major lift" in pursuit of the 22-year-old.

Andre was being chased by Liverpool, but the outlet backs that Jurgen Klopp's side have now completely pulled out, giving Fulham a clearer pathway to sign Andre.

The race was allegedly becoming too crowded for Liverpool's liking, and it now looks likely that they will take their business elsewhere in a boost for Fulham and Silva. Speaking to Sky Sports in the summer, South American football expert Tim Vickery explained he is in no doubt that Andre could do a job in the Premier League.

"There's a reason that he's probably at the top of many club's wish lists from South America at the moment," said Vickery on Andre.

"He's a defensive midfielder. The way that Fluminense play, they're very, very front loaded. They're a very unorthodox side. The way that they play means they leave a huge amount of space to cover, and he's the man who has to cover that space.

"So, he's quick. He's quick around the field, he's quick running back. They also pass out from the back in an almost suicidal manner, which means he's continually having to receive the ball close to his own goal under pressure. So these are really honed skills that are useful."
