Fulham hoping to beat Chelsea to signing of versatile attacker

Fulham are set to rival Chelsea in the race for Club Brugge attacker Antonio Nusa.

That's according to a recent report from Football Insider, who claims the Cottagers are hopeful they can fend off long-term interest from Chelsea and bring the talented forward to Craven Cottage in January.

Nusa, 18, is a top talent. He joined Club Brugge two years ago and has already become one of Europe's hottest prospects. The talented teenager became the Champions League's youngest-ever goalscorer after he netted on his competition's debut in a 4-0 away win against Porto last year.

And having already caught the eye of Chelsea, who are thought to be long-time admirers of the Norway international, interest in Nusa is beginning to mount with Fulham the latest side to include him on their shortlist.

The Cottagers desperately need to replace Aleksandar Mitrovic, who recently joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, and Brugge's Nusa, who has scored two goals and provided three assists already this season, seems to be the player Marco Silva sees as the right fit for the job.

Currently valued at around £20 million (TM) but with four years left on his contract, Fulham will know they will need to lean on their financial power if they're to bring the 18-year-old to Craven Cottage during the mid-season window.

18 year old starlet drifts towards Fulham as circumstances change
Caughtoffside are today discussing reports that Fulham are trying to sign Club Brugge attacker Antonio Nusa.

We've seen the youngster linked to Chelsea many times, and there have been moments where a move to Stamford Bridge has seemed inevitable.

However struggling Fulham are desperate to bring some attacking quality in in January, and they can offer him a direct route to immediate first team football in the Premier League which may prove tempting.

For his part, Nusa has made his intentions to stay in Belgium and continue developing until at least the end of this season very clear. He's still only 18, after all. But if he feels there's a chance to step up to Premier League football and play right away, he might well take it.

Chelsea on the other hand may prefer to find out what they've got in their other youngsters signed over the last couple of years before they invest in yet another wonderkid.

Sources: Major update on Fulham and Timo Werner deal
Fulham are likely to pursue other options before turning to a move for reported striker target Timo Werner in January, sources have told Football Insider.

The Cottagers have been widely linked with a potential move for the RB Leizpig striker ahead of the mid-season window.

Marco Silva is keen to strengthen his attack and Werner, 27, is out of favour with the Bundesliga outfit.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Fulham are likely to find a deal for the Germany international "hard to do" in January.

It is believed the ex-Chelsea star is on wages in excess of £150,000-a-week at Leizpig.

The Bundesliga side would have to contribute heavily in a loan deal for Fulham to be able to sanction a move.

A straight loan with subsidised wages would be attractive for Fulham, sources say, but they are likely to pursue other options first before turning their attention to Werner.

One such option is Club Brugge attacking sensation Antonio Nusa, 18, with Football Insider revealing on Friday (17 November) that the Cottagers are planning to beat rivals Chelsea to the Norway international.

Werner has started just two of a possible 11 Bundesliga games this season and is clearly out of favour at Leipzig.

He has managed two goals and one assist in 13 appearances across all competitions this term.

The 57-cap Germany international returned to the club in 2022 after leaving Chelsea.

Werner, 27, managed 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 appearances across all competitions during his time at Stamford Bridge – and helped the Blues lift the Champions League.

Fulham sit 15th in the Premier League and are seven points clear of relegation danger – but are among the lowest scorers in the division this term.

Premier League side will find it hard to sign former Chelsea flop in January
Premier League outfit Fulham have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig's Timo Werner but the West London club will find it hard to sign the former Chelsea star in January.

Marco Silva is on the lookout for a new striker during the winter window and the German star could be a possible option as he is out of favour at Leipzig.

The 27-year-old has started just two out of a possible 11 Bundesliga games this season and is clearly down Marco Rose's pecking order.

This has caught the attention of Fulham but according to Football Insider, the Cottagers are likely to pursue other options in January due to the money involved in any potential deal.

The report states that Werner is on wages in excess of £150,000-a-week at Leipzig and that is a figure Fulham cannot afford. The Bundesliga side would have to contribute heavily to any potential loan deal in order to make it happen.

A straight loan with subsidised wages would interest Fulham but other options are more attractive at present.

Werner has already had a spell in England with Fulham's rivals Chelsea and it is fair to say the German forward flopped massively at Stamford Bridge.

The 27-year-old returned to Leipzig in the hope of rediscovering the form he showed at the German club during his first spell but that has not worked out either as the former Blues star has a crucial decision regarding his career ahead of him.

Fulham keen on Club Brugge attacker Antonio Nusa?
Fulham are reportedly interested in signing Club Brugge attacker Antonio Nusa.

After achieving a top-half finish last term, Fulham have struggled to match that success in the first three months of the 2023-24 campaign.

Having won just three of their 12 league games (D3, L6), the Cottagers are sitting in 15th place in the Premier League table.

Their inconsistency in the final third has been a key factor behind their poor form, having scored just 10 league goals this season.

As a result, they are currently the joint-second lowest scorers alongside newly-promoted Luton Town and Sheffield United.

Fulham's tally is a far cry from last season when they finished as the ninth-highest scorers with 55 goals, which was partly due to Aleksandar Mitrovic's 14-goal league tally.

However, Mitrovic's departure to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in the summer has left Fulham with a void they have been unable to fill.

With Fulham struggling in the final third, they are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements when the transfer window opens in January.

According to Football Insider, the West London club have identified highly-rated youngster Nusa as a potential transfer target.

While Nusa would not be a direct replacement for Mitrovic, he would help strengthen Marco Silva's attacking options.

The 18-year-old predominantly plays as a left winger, but he can also operate on the opposite flank as well as playing through the middle.

Nusa has made 17 competitive appearances for Club Brugge this season, registering two goals and three assists.

The teenager, who has also represented Norway on four occasions, scored on his international debut in a 6-0 victory over Jordan in September.

Fulham could face competition for Nusa's signature, as Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have all previously been linked with a move.

The Belgian side will be in a strong position if they decide to entertain a sale, with the Norwegian under contract until the summer of 2027.

Report: Spurs-linked striker could end up at Nottingham Forest or Fulham instead
Bild have named Nottingham Forest and Fulham as the two leading contenders to win the race for Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham over recent weeks.

Guirassy has been one of the most prolific strikers across Europe this season having found the back of the net 14 times in eight Bundesliga matches so far (Transfermarkt).

TEAMtalk last month that Spurs are one of several English clubs monitoring the Guinea international closely ahead of January.

Forest and Fulham front-runners for Guirassy
However, Bild have now named Forest and Fulham as the two clubs vying for Guirassy's signature and they make no mention of Spurs.

The outlet claims that both of the aforementioned clubs hold a strong interest in the player and 'have been keeping an eye on the attacker for a long time'.

The report backs up what we have heard from other sources by stating that the centre-forward has a release clause of €17.5m (£15.3m) in his contract.

The publication adds that Stuttgart expect the clause to be met in January, which is why they have already started looking for potential replacements for their number nine.

Spurs Web Opinion
The reason top clubs do not appear to be keen on Guirassy is that he might simply have a purple patch in front of goal as his record prior to his switch to Stuttgart is quite average. Having said that, at £15m, many clubs feel that it is worth taking a punt on the 27-year-old.

Sources: Tottenham and Chelsea in race to sign Nusa, £30m will seal deal
Tottenham and Chelsea also hold an ongoing interest in Fulham target Antonio Nusa, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (17 November) that Nusa is on the radar for Marco Silva's Fulham side – with the 18-year-old's versatility valued highly at Craven Cottage.

Both Spurs and Chelsea are also keen on the teenage attacker, who is making waves with Club Brugge in Belgium.

Nusa only signed a contract extension running until June 2027 earlier this year.

It is believed Club Brugge don't want to lose the attacking sensation in January as they are going well in both the Belgian Pro League and Europa League.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that they are likely to ask for a fee of around £30million to part with Nusa mid-season.

Brugge are hoping that Spurs and Chelsea's interest will materialise into an auction for the attacker's services, driving up his price tag.

Nusa has made 17 appearances across all competitions this term, notching two goals and three assists.

He has already racked up 53 appearances for the Belgian side and helped them win the Belgian Super Cup in the 2022-23 campaign.

The 18-year-old, who scored his first senior goal for Norway in September, can play on both flanks and as a centre-forward.

Tottenham are looking for attacking reinforcements in January following long-term injuries to Manor Solomon, Richarlison and Ivan Perisic.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (17 November) that Juventus sensation Samuel Iling-Junior is also a top target for Spurs.
