EXCLUSIVENottingham Forest could turn to Fulham boss Marco Silva to replace Nuno Espirito Santo if he leaves this summer... as clubs from Portugal and Spain target the former Wolves and Tottenham manager

Nuno has only been at Forest for six months and helped them avoid relegation
He could move on this summer, and Silva is a surprise an option to replace him

Marco Silva could become a surprise managerial target for Nottingham Forest if Nuno Espirito Santo is prised away from the City Ground.

The Fulham boss signed a new deal last October, which runs to the end of the 2025-26 season and is believed to contain a release clause of about £9million.

Mail Sport reported in May that Nuno was on the list of clubs in Portugal and Spain after he steered Forest to survival last season, despite the club receiving a four-point deduction for breaking spending rules. Nuno has one year left on his contract, with an option for a further 12 months, but that has not deterred suitors.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has long admired Silva, who coached Olympiacos – another club owned by Marinakis – in 2015-16.

Though Silva has never worked for Marinakis since, the Greek shipping magnate has always followed his progress.

Marinakis had arguably his finest moment in football when Olympiacos beat Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League Final last month to lift their first European trophy.

It is unclear whether Silva would leave Fulham after three highly successful years at Craven Cottage.

He led the club to promotion in 2022 and guided them to 10th and 13th places respectively in the following two seasons, and there is greater stability at Fulham than Forest, who may to have to sell players this month to stay within profitability and sustainability regulations for the 2021-24 accounting period.

But Forest's rich history – they won the European Cup in 1979 and 1980 – passionate fanbase and ambitious plans for the future will make many managers sit up and take notice.

Silva was offered eye-watering terms by Saudi Pro League clubs Al Ahli and Al Hilal last summer but opted to stay in the Premier League. West Ham also held a long-standing interest in the Portuguese before moving instead for former Spain and Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui this summer.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have joined a host of clubs who may bid for Forest defender Murillo this month. The Brazilian is expected to depart for a sizeable profit on the £10.2million Forest paid Corinthians a year ago.

Forest would also listen to offers for forward Taiwo Awoniyi and will consider a move for their former forward Ben Brereton-Diaz, currently contracted to Villarreal, if they sell the Nigerian.

Forest fancy Silva as Nuno replacement
Nottingham Forest have shortlisted Fulham head coach Marco Silva as a potential replacement for their Nuno Espirito Santo, according to this morning's Daily Mail.

The former Wolves and Tottenham boss has only spent six months at the City Ground but guided Forest to safety after the sacking of Steve Cooper despite a four point deduction for breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules. Nuno is interesting several clubs in Spain and Portugal and has just twelve months remaining on his current Forest contract.

Forest have been busy drawing up contingency plans should they lose the 50 year-old this summer. Silva, who steered Fulham to promotion from the Championship in his first season at Craven Cottage and has since established the Whites in the top flight, is a favourite of owner Evangelos Marinakis. He won the Greek title with Olympiakos, who Marinakis also owns, in 2016 and the media mogul would be keen on a reunion with the Portuguese coach in the event of Nuno's departure.

But Silva is believed to be happy to stay with Fulham at present, having signed a two-year contract extension in October.

Aston Villa at risk of PSR breach as 'ridiculous' £40million transfer claim emerges
Bryan King claims Aston Villa are in no position to sign players amid a transfer update on Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira.

The ex-Villa scout believes the club could end up overspending to sign the Brazilian.

It comes after a report from Globo Esporte (5 June) shared that Villa have expressed an interest in Pereira, with super-agent Kia Joorabchian set to handle negotiations.

Villa are said to be at risk of breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (via Birmingham Live, 8 June), and King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has warned the club against trying to sign Pereira.

"How can Villa buy this player if they're at risk of a PSR breach," King said.

"This is why they're in this situation in the first place, overpaying for players and agreeing ridiculous fees.

Aston Villa must focus on outgoings before signing Andreas Pereira
If Pereira's agent will look to squeeze every last penny out of Villa, they're better off avoiding that deal.

The club's financial year ends on 30 June, and at this point, they will have a better understanding of their position.

With the risk of a PSR breach hanging over their heads, now is not the time for Unai Emery's side to get involved in any expensive transfer talks.

Vincent Kompany closing in on first signing for Bayern as talks reopen for £50 million Fulham star
HITC understands that Fulham are prepared to sell one key player this summer who remains of interest to Bayern Munich.

Last summer, Thomas Tuchel's Bayern Munich were keen on adding a defensive midfield signing to their ranks to try and cover for the loss of Ryan Gravenberch, who joined Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

Fulham star Joao Palhinha was the Bavarian's main target and a move could be reignited this summer with HITC understanding that the West London club would be open to selling the Portuguese star during the off-season.

Palhinha is set to feature heavily for Portugal during the European Championships in Germany this summer.

Bayern make contact
Sources have confirmed to HITC that Bayern Munich, who were pipped to the Bundesliga title by Bayer Leverkusen, have made contact with the Premier League club.

Palhinha almost joined Bayern on deadline day in the summer of 2023 but the deal fell through on the final day of the window.

Palhinha then signed a new deal at Fulham, but HITC understands that there was an understanding between the two parties that they would allow him to leave in the future, if an acceptable deal arrived.

Joshua Kimmich's future in Bavaria is uncertain with HITC previously reporting that Manchester City and Barcelona were interested in the German midfielder so a replacement could well be sought after.

Fulham's demand
HITC can confirm that lines of communication between Bayern and Fulham have now been reopened with Vincent Kompany's side making an approach.

The deal won't be a cheap one for Bayern with the Portuguese midfielder still having four years left on his contract at Craven Cottage.

We understand that the two clubs will need to hammer out a deal once again, but Fulham want a deal worth at least £50million – given he has only recently put pen to paper on a new deal in West London.

Palhinha will be hoping to excel at this summer's European Championship with a move to Bayern potentially on his radar.
