DERMOT SAYS: "I have had a lot of chances to look at this again and I did not think it was a red card at the time, and I still don't.
Robertson doesn't know he's coming, he mis-controls the ball and Wilson nicks the ball. Is he in control of the ball? No. Is he going to gain control of the ball? Very doubtful because the Liverpool player is going to get their first. Is he moving towards goal? No.
There's are too many variables and the 'O' [in DOGSO - Denying a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity] stands for obvious and not possible.
Then (Raul) Jimenez has a shot and the whistle actually goes when (Virgil) Van Dijk clears the ball so it adds a lot of complications to it.
"A more palatable decision would have been a yellow card.
"If you're going to give a red card then you whistle because once you whistle you're in control of the situation. If he thinks it's a red card then just blow.

"If the referee had whistled immediately then everyone would have accepted that."

And if you look at the tackle again firstly Robertson's foul stops Harry from keeping the ball closer. Secondly it's not a simple trip, it's a full blown hack at him...violent conduct ..so red either way..or on reflection two reds

Lineker was the same on MOTD. Having watched the longer Sky highlights they seem to suggest the ref blows his whistle before Raul takes his shot. He should have just buried it either way though.

I think the ref is actually trying to help Robertson out to see how it plays out . If raul scores , just a yellow for Robertson and it's good refereeing .  If Wilson isn't fouled there are so many permutations . I.e he gets in on goal himself , if Raul gets it he can pass it back to Wilson for a tap in . It's a poor tackle, I think ref got it right .

On referees, did anyone spot the comment by the former ref during the man utd game? I felt it was a Freudian slip, the challenge on Hauland and Neville was saying pen and then the former ref said, 'no, not enough in a match like this'

What's that suppose to mean? So if it's a lowly team like Everton or Southampton then it's a pen but if it's man city then it's not?

That's a perfect example,ple of the mindset of these so called officials.

It's a blatant example of how their brains work.

Like the goal kick pick up by arsenal in champions league.

Ref says I'm not giving a pen for a child's mistake in the champions league. WTF! If anything it's suppose to start at the top and work down, the kids can be given the benefit of the doubt but full grown adults in th3 champions league should absolutely know better!

ray just let me point out control of the ball or having the ball has nothing to do with the decision . Play can be firmly in one part of the pitch with the ball there also . If a player decides to trip or bring Down an opponent at the other end of the pitch ( and of course it's noticed by the ref ) it's a free kick where it happened regardless of where the ball is . However the ball was present on this occasion thus possibly denying a goal scoring opportunity , hence the red card .

But as Liverpool were cruelly victimised by the cruel and heartless referee. The more I can see the brown envelopes piling up. Dermot is an idiot. He usually always backs referees no matter how poor their decision was, not sure why he picked such an obvious red as the situation in which he'll go against the decision of the referee.

Tete was absolutely assaulted by Gomez- you had shocked liverpool players genuinely asking the ref why they hadn't been given a penalty. It's laughable, but these teams seem to get away with it.

Andreas Pereira had his customary self-sabotage moment, which could have ended badly for him, but the ref/VAR also allowed it.
Kenny Tete's unintentional challenge could have also been bad for us, but the ref took a practical and sympathetic view.
I honestly look at the refs performance and can't see any kind of conspiracy against us, regardless of ref watch.
If I was a Liverpool fan on the other hand, I'd feel a little aggrieved that the big calls all went our way.
