Perfectly summed up

Have to say I was incredibly impressed with some of their play in the first half. Aggressive pressing, vertical, direct football that was causing us nightmares.

Can't believe we ended up winning that one.

They definitely got away with one with Wissa staying on, and penalty was undeserved.

I quite like Thomas Frank, seems a good egg.

RE:Brentford's playstyle, I don't like it either, but I actually prefer it Palace's for example.

Hilarious that we won there on their last home game of the season. Think there were about 5 people who stuck around for their lap of honour  ::wine::

As for the game, the substitutes obviously made the difference. Josh King needs more game time, nuff said.

I read on the match day thread how poor our defence was today. Watching the highlights now, I think it was the Bees defence that went missing not ours? Particularly the two unchallenged headers for our first two goals.

Quote from: LC on May 18, 2025, 05:12:54 PMJosh King looks like a real talent. I expect to see a lot more of him next season for us. Hopefully we get him on a long term contract soon.

Rumour is that his ambitions will take him elsewhere rather than signing for us.
Maybe Sess can advise him or put him in touch with Fabio!!

I wasn't able to follow it because I was out mackerel fishing on a kayak off Seaford. I almost burst a blood vessel when I heard the result driving home. I'm about to bbq the silvery beauties and wash them  down with some fine Sussex beer. COYW!

Sounds great. I've filleted a rainbow and popped it into the freezer.

Really hope getting game time today and promise of more next season will keep him with us. I had heard it was not money, but minutes that was the issue.

Looks a class player.

The 'Crap Lap Of Appreciation' on the Hounslow fan site is a good read just to cap the day off nicely  :sla :slap:  ::beer:: p:

Never been on their board before but I looked in & it's hilarious. I still don't see them as bitter local rivals, more a temporary irritant that will likely return to the Championship at some stage.

I laughed when I read about the poxy FFC fans OTT celebrations - this criticism from a team that released a full match DVD & framed picture of one of their victories over us.

It was a good laugh, but I have to admit that some of the points they made about how long it takes for the players to go back to the dressing room then come out again and the families and the random people that accompany them on the pitch rang true even for our year-end appreciation laps - I guess it's the same at most clubs.

Quote from: hopper on May 18, 2025, 05:24:59 PMWhat a bizarre season, but definitely a huge positive for us is that we've had some unbelievable moments in local derbies that mean the most.

Harry in particular has really written his name into folklore.

God it's nice to upset those Bees fans on a big day for them on their final home match of the season.

What a bizarre season indeed, getting our most points ever in the PL but we're joint first for most points lost in winning position and I'm pretty sure we're top 3 for most points gained in a losing position. Anywho, Wilson has some shot in him. Glad we are keeping him for another season.

Points gained from a losing position: 21.

Points lost from a winning position: 28.

Funny old game yesterday. They were by far more dominant in the first half that's for sure. For me our midfield balance with Berge & Lukic is just not working. The only thing it offers is lots of running around in circles. I do see why they have been picked together and I have said before certain games where backs to the wall you go horses for courses but it's offering next to nothing going forward let alone any vision or threat.
Difficult game for our full backs but both did extremely well all told. Good substitutions at last? Jiminez worked tireless up top and showed how intelligent a footballer he is.
We were a lot better second half a looked far more a threat in our build up and on the break. Was our second half performance better than there first half? probably not but we've been dealt similar results and yesterday we got the rub of the green with a win. Thought the team had more cohesion than Brentford last 20-25mins and though Cairney coming on moved us more forward the Wilson substitution was tactically good.
Not just the win yesterday but good character shown considering recent results as it was looking like season was petering out slowly considering three quarters of this season has been good. If the manager stays and I do not see any reason why he won't unless he was offered perhaps Spurs job! might be to tempting to turn down? then if board back him financially I would look at another Top 10 finish next year.

Leno-I'll start with the only negative, I thought he should have done much better for their first goal. Apart from that it was a perfect performance. His penalty save was absolutely superb, and the save he made in the second half was even better. Made some good saves in the first half too. Probably my MOTM.
Tete-rough first half. Was perhaps lucky to stay on the pitch after he nade that foul when he was already on a yellow. I thought he was superb in the second half though.
Andersen-don't get why he got criticised by some people online for his performance today. I thought he was one of our best players. I don't think that the penalty they got was a penalty either.
Bassey-weaker of the two, especially in the first half. Improved in the second.
Robinson-looked rusty. His touch was very heavy in the first half and he lost the ball often because of that. Also improved in the second.
Lukic-also looked a bit rusty in the beginning, but grew in to the game. Our midfield pretty much always looks much better with him on the pitch as he does a lot of work that goes unnoticed and I think that was the case yesterday too.
Berge-I thought he was pretty good, but I get why Marco subbed him off. As shown in the Chelsea game, having both Cairney and Berge on the pitch doesn't work as our midfield becomes too slow against energetic teams, so because Marco thought Cairney could help us in this game, Berge was realistically the only option.
ESR-I don't agree with those who say he doesn't try. I think he tried his best. The problem today was that he just didn't have his best performance on the ball.
Traore-games like this are the reason why I'd always start Adama when he's in good form, and he has been for a few games now. When on form, he is almost unstoppable. I do acknowledge that he was one of the main culprits for the first goal we conceded, however, he's also one of the main reasons we scored our first and third goal. Yes, they were both brilliant finishes, particularly Wilson's goal, but Adama did a lot of hard work before both those goals.
Iwobi-pretty poor performance from him, especially by his standards. I think Marco overplayed him in the first half of the season. He had some good performances (and a few great performances) in the second half of the season too, but unlike in the first half of the season, he had more than a few subpar performances.
Raul-great performance. That header was perfect. Apart from that, he might not have done much in attack, but he really emptied the tank yesterday, he tracked back and helped defensively until the final second of the game.

Subs:
Cairney-made a really positive impact. Moved the ball faster than Berge which allowed us to take more control in the game. His header was excellent. I was actually a bit surprised by how well he took that chance, as that was a really really good header. Loved his celebration too.
King-his best game in a Fulham shirt(I mean for the senior team of course). Didn't look out of place at all. He seemed to struggle with the physicality of the PL at times in his previous appearances, but not yesterday. His decision making was great too and obviously we all know how talented he is on the ball. Would love to see more from him and hats off to Marco for being brave and putting him on the pitch ahead of Pereirs, Sess and Willian.
Wilson-great performance. The goal he scored was one of my favourite goals he scored in a Fulham shirt. Incredible shot. He gave his all defensively too and some nice touches in thr final third.
Sess-wasn't on the pitch long, but he did fine.
Cuenca-was on the pitch for even less time than Sess. He did fine too.

Quote from: Somerset Fulham on May 18, 2025, 06:23:00 PMI thought that Andersen and Raul were both outstanding today too.

Agree about Jimenez.  Thought Andersens' achilles heel is really starting to show.  Seems in recent games, players are always getting past/behind him, and he's always chasing.  Again v Brentford, drawing the PK.  I think we all know he's not the quickest of foot, so maybe his anticipation and positioning need to be looked at.  He's getting beat quite frequently......
