Recap: Bassey's blunders compound Fulham's miserable month
Sammy looks back at Fulham's defeat in the North-East

Ah Fulham do know how to ruin a weekend. A valiant point against Newcastle chucked away in stoppage time following a careless pass to Ryan Sessegnon by Calvin Bassey.

Nobody could deny that the magpies were value for their victory, but sometimes it's nice to scrape a point in adversity. Fulham's equaliser was just reward for dragging their way back into the match, Newcastle's winner was the consequence of ceding that control.

Whilst Marco's half-time substitute bringing on Kevin and moving Iwobi centrally worked wonders, his other subs, bringing on Tom Cairney and Josh King were so ineffective they were actually detrimental.

A see-saw game became a one-way barrage and Bruno's goal was fully deserved. Bassey may have been culpable for the goal, but the team and Marco must shoulder the responsibility for the direction of the match.

After the weekend's results, we are down in 17th place and all of a sudden our promising start is looking bleak. Four defeats in a row is never pretty, and trailing all three promoted clubs in the league is not where any of us hoped to be at the end of October.

The fact that the teams who came up are more competitive is great for the neutral, but not for a team like Fulham. Burnley and Leeds will still be in the mix to go down, but you'd imagine that Sunderland's fast start will keep them at an arm's length from the mess at the bottom. The hope has to be that the respective crises at Wolves, West Ham and Forest continue indefinitely.

However, I do still believe that our results have tracked exactly what you'd expect on paper. Three tough away games sandwiched around a home game against the league leaders. Liverpool are proof that any team can lose four in a row at this level.

After nine games last season, the team 17th in the table were an injury-hit Crystal Palace. Their season turned out ok in the end.

So no, it's not a crisis by any stretch of the imagination. However, a crisis is right around the corner. This comment from Sam in the Fulhamish Telegram sums up the situation we find ourselves in ahead of (winless) Wolves next week. Lose that, and I think we can start to panic.

After yesterday's game I took on the Quick Take, normally we like to record these from the game, but the lack of trains meant this one was done from home. I tried my best to mix the emotion of the painful defeat with the fact that there's no need to sound the alarm just yet.

Elsewhere, Owen Macdonald described the next two matches as "must-wins" and it's hard to disagree. Whilst I'm sure we'd all probably reluctantly trade our place in the Carabao Cup for a win against Wolves, we really have to win both.

A victory against Wycombe on Tuesday will not only put us in the quarter-finals of a major competition, but hopefully it'll restore a winning feeling to a side that must be feeling like little has gone their way of late.

Nottingham Forest Could Replace Sean Dyche in 'Shock' Move
Nottingham Forest are keeping a close eye on Fulham manager Marco Silva despite only recently appointing Sean Dyche, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed.

The City Ground side considered hiring the Portuguese tactician before moving for Dyche earlier this month, appointing the former Everton and Burnley boss on a contract until the summer of 2027.

Forest are said to be long-term admirers of Silva and could have a chance of appointing the 48-year-old after the season, when his contract with Fulham expires.

While the Craven Cottage hierarchy remain very keen on extending Silva's stay in West London and are 'doing everything' to retain him, Forest's 'shock' move for the manager has not been ruled out.

Marco Silva Linked with Nottingham Forest
According to Bailey, Forest weighed up a move for Silva before they opted for Dyche earlier this month and could revisit their interest if he leaves Fulham in 2026:

"Obviously, Fulham are very keen to extend Silva's contract. They don't want to see him walk away in the summer, because he will be a hard act to replace.

"They've finished 10th, 13th and 11th, and got a club record points tally last season, so he's continually making improvement and progress at Craven Cottage.

"Fulham will be doing everything they can to extend the Portuguese contract.

"Obviously he was in the reckoning for this Nottingham Forest job before they appointed Sean Dyche as well.

"Let's see what happens there with Forest and Dyche because he hasn't signed a new contract at Fulham and is available on a free, who's not to say that Forest could renew their interest in Marco Silva there as well."

As GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs previously reported, Forest opted against pursuing Silva mid-season due to his £15m release clause, as well as the Portuguese coach's reluctance to leave at this stage of the campaign.

Silva took charge at Craven Cottage in the summer of 2021 and led Fulham to the Championship title in his first season.

The Big Match Preview: Wycombe vs Fulham
Tuesday 28th October (k.o. 7.45pm)
Carabao Cup Fourth Round
Adams Park
Referee: Robert Madley

The Blues are bouncing off the back of their strongest performance of the season so far against Huddersfield to host Premier League opponents, Fulham, in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup under the Adams Park lights. The fixture marks only the second time in the club's history that they've reached the fourth round of the competiton, having not done so since their run to the semi-finals back in the 2006/07 season.

The Chairboys effectively capitalised on the Terriers dropping to 10 men at the weekend to execute their best league result of the season so far, as Cauley Woodrow and Fred Onyedinma both found the back of the net before Dan Harvie's cross was turned in by Huddersfields' Daniel Vost to make it three.

Michael Duff's side made it to this stage of the Cup following a strong performance away to Wigan where Caolan Boyd-Munce and Donnell McNeilly both scored in stunning fashion to hoist the Blues to a win in Duff's second game in charge. It's now only one loss from eight under Duff, as the Blues will look to progress to the quarter-finals of the Carabao EFL Cup for the second time in history.

The evening's top-flight opponents have had a tough start to the season as they currently sit towards the bottom of the Premier League table and enter the bout having suffered four losses on the bounce. The Lilywhites' last win came from a narrow 1-0 victory over League Two's Cambridge, which saw them advance to this stage of the Carabao Cup.

It's set to be a rocking night under the lights at Our House, so make sure to secure your tickets here, and get behind the Blues as they seek out advancement to the quarter-finals.

Ticket News
The terrace is now sold out for the fixture against Fulham, but there are still tickets available elsewhere around the stadium which can be purchased here.

Tickets can also be purchased on the day subject to availability.

Fulham will play in their white strip, with the keeper in orange.

A number of independent car parks are in operation along the approach to the stadium.

Temporary Traffic Regulation Order
Wycombe Wanderers are pleased to have been granted a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) which will enable the club to take over the management of Hillbottom Road on home matchdays.

The TTRO will give the club more control over the flow of pedestrians and vehicles both before and after games, with a new checkpoint for parking permits to be introduced further down Hillbottom Road, reducing congestion at the gate on arrival.

To prioritise the safety of pedestrians at full-time, the road will be closed to vehicles once the clock hits 90 minutes and reopened once the majority of the pedestrian crowd has dispersed.

The new TTRO also provides the opportunity for the matchday buses to drop off and collect passengers closer to the Adams Park gates. Businesses situated along Hillbottom Road will still have access as usual to their properties and will still be able to operate matchday parking initiatives as before.

Please note
Please note that multi-way signals have been set up on Lane End Road near the junction to Hillbottom Road, so please make sure to arrive early as to prevent traffic build-up.

Bus Services
Wycombe Wanderers are delighted to confirm the new matchday bus services operated by Carousel which will now bring supporters to Adams Park from Aylesbury, Thame and Maidenhead as well as the existing bus from High Wycombe railway station.

The club is committed to growing attendances at Adams Park and is pleased to work with Carousel to make it easier for fans to travel to the stadium by bus on matchdays, alleviating the pressure on car parks surrounding the stadium.

See here for the full routes and timetables.

A return fare of £5 will be charged on all services regardless of pick-up point.

You can view the timetable online at carouselbuses.co.uk, and track the bus's live route via their app (App Store and Google Play).

Local Carousel buses on route 32/32A will also be in operation on matchdays. Buses drop off at The Hour Glass Pub. Please check your journey before you travel via the website.

And Bodger's Box Meal is available from the two Family Stand kiosks, priced at £6.50, including a sandwich, juice, chocolate bar and popcorn.

What Else?

We would advise for fans to arrive to the ground early as to avoid any traffic coming into the stadium

Wycombe Wanderers Supporters Trust will be collecting tinned food donations for One Can Trust

In the Middle
It will be Robert Madley's 10th game refereed this season and he has shown 33 yellows and two reds in his previous nine games.

Tuesday will mark the ninth time Madley has been in the middle of a Chairboys fixture, with the previous eight resulting in three wins, two draws and three losses for the Blues.

League Cup – 28/10
We travel to Adams Park to take on Wycombe Wanderers in the fourth round of the League Cup
After 4 losses hopefully we can stop that sequence against Wycombe, but this is a cup game so nothing is guaranteed.
Wycombe are unbeaten in their last 4 League One games however they have lost six games so far this season and currently are in 17th, as are Fulham!

Team selection is going to be interesting as Emile Smith Rowe has been added to the injury list alongside Antonee Robinson, Joachim Andersen, Rodrigo Muniz, Harry Wilson and Samuel Chukwueze.

I'd go for a strong starting 11, with a mixture of youth and experience on the bench, after all the quarter finals await the victor...

So my squad would be...

Pre-Wycombe Press Conference
Marco Silva says attentions were already on this week's matches while he was debriefing his squad at St James' Park.

A gutting end to that game made it four consecutive defeats for Fulham, but with a Carabao Cup Quarter-Final berth up for grabs on Tuesday when we travel to Wycombe Wanderers, motivation remains high in the camp.

"We started to speak about this game straightaway after the Newcastle game, when – as you expect – the mood was down," our Head Coach explained.

"And the end of my speech with the players, went in the direction of the Carabao Cup and the weekend's game [against Wolves].

"First of all, here, no one underestimates the opposition at all. We know what these competitions mean for us, and for our opposition it's always an opportunity.

"For us it's an opportunity, to go through in the competition, to arrive in certain stages, and the final stages of this competition. For our opposition, it's always a big chance the next day to be in the spotlight, to be in all the TV shows and newspapers and all that stuff.

"We know that, and we have to be very serious. But nothing different than the last games we have played in the competition. We prepare ourselves like we prepare for the Premier League games, and we have to go there and show our quality.

"Their enthusiasm is going to be top, and we have to have the same enthusiasm as well. The same will, the same desire, and after show why we are playing and competing in the Premier League."

Smith Rowe joins Fulham's injury list ahead of cup tie
Marco Silva has confirmed that Emile Smith Rowe is the latest Fulham player to pick up an injury.

Smith Rowe was substituted at half-time at Newcastle on Saturday, when the Whites suffered a fourth Premier League loss in a row.

He has a hamstring problem, albeit seemingly a minor one, and is unavailable for Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie along with the likes of Antonee Robinson, Joachim Andersen, Rodrigo Muniz, Harry Wilson and Samuel Chukwueze.

On Smith-Rowe's injury, boss Silva said on Monday morning: "It was a knock from the last game – a knock that doesn't look like something very, very serious. and I think the next few days he's going to react, but for tomorrow it's not very good.

Antonee Robinson, Joachim Andersen, Emile Smith Rowe, Rodrigo Muniz, Harry Wilson and Samuel Chukwueze

"It was the muscle – the hamstring. It doesn't look serious really, but we have to be careful."

A win at Wycombe would give Fulham a place in the quarter-final for the second time in three years.

Fulham injury news: Marco Silva confirms fresh fitness blow ahead of EFL Cup clash
Fulham manager Marco Silva has ruled Emile Smith Rowe out of Tuesday's EFL Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers.

The Cottagers may be relishing the distraction of a cup match after suffering a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat in Saturday's clash with Newcastle United.

Sasa Lukic's second-half equaliser put Fulham on course for a point, only for Bruno Guimaraes to net a 90th-minute winner to condemn Silva's side to a 2-1 loss at St James' Park.

To compound the disappointing result, attacking midfielder Smith Rowe had to be replaced at half time due to an injury issue.

Silva confirms Smith Rowe injury setback
Silva has now revealed that Smith Rowe will not feature in Tuesday's fourth-round tie at Adams Park due to a hamstring problem.

However, Silva is hopeful that the 25-year-old has avoided any serious injury, suggesting that he could return to action in the near future.

"It was a knock from the last game," Silva said as per West London Sport. "A knock that doesn't look like something very, very serious, and I think the next few days he's going to react, but for tomorrow, he's not going to be good."

The injury setback will frustrate Smith Rowe after he had waited until Saturday's defeat to make his first Premier League start of the season.

Smith Rowe had settled for substitute appearances in Fulham's opening five Premier League games, although he started the first two EFL Cup matches against Bristol City and Cambridge United.

Who else is on Fulham's injury list?
Smith Rowe has become the latest name to join a growing injury list, which includes Samuel Chukwueze, Antonee Robinson and Rodrigo Muniz.

Defender Joachim Andersen and attacker Harry Wilson are also set to miss a second successive game after they sat out the trip to St James' Park through injury.

Silva's squad should still be strong enough to see off League One Wycombe on Tuesday, but he will want the injured players back as soon as possible to help spark an upturn in fortunes in the Premier League.

Fulham will face basement side Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, before they take on Everton in their final game before the November international break.

Wycombe Wanderers vs Fulham: Preview and Prediction
Fulham will travel to the Adams Park Stadium to take on Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Cup fourth round, eager to progress to the quarter-finals.

Fulham are going through a dreadful run of form right now, with four defeats in a row in the Premier League ahead of the EFL Cup tie vs Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday. The Cottagers will look to bounce back strongly against a weaker opposition.

The West London outfit have an impressive record against Wycombe Wanderers, amassing four wins from their last six meetings. It will be interesting to see if they can get their season on track with a victory here.

Marco Silva's men will be under a lot of pressure after their recent performances. Losing four matches in a row will have sucked their confidence out of the game, and they will need to rebuild once again. Meanwhile, Wycombe Wanderers are unbeaten in the last five matches in all competitions.

The hosts are coming into this game on the back of three wins from the last four outings, and they will be reasonably confident at home. They will look to take advantage of Fulham's vulnerability and pile further misery on them. The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at the encounter ahead of the latest meeting between the two sides.

Team News & Tactics
Wycombe Wanderers
The homs side will be without Josh Scowen and George Abbott due to injury concerns. Wycombe Wanderers will shape up in their usual 4-2-3-1 formation vs Fulham, with Will Norris in goal.

Daniel Harvie and captain Jack Grimmer will start in the full-back areas. They will look to keep things tight defensively and hit him on the break. At the heart of the defence, Connor Taylor will start alongside Taylor Allen.

As for the midfield unit, Luke Leahy will start alongside Ewan Henderson in the double pivot in the middle of the park. They will look to protect the central defenders and win the ball back for their side. Alex Lowry will start as the attacking midfielder here, and he will look to create opportunities for his teammates in the final third with his passing and vision.

Sam Bell and Fred Onyedinma will add pace, flair and unpredictability from the wide areas. They will look to create opportunities during transitions. Finally, Cauley Woodrow will lead the line for Wycombe Wanderers vs Fulham on Tuesday.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Norris; Grimmer, Taylor, Allen, Harvie; Leahy, Henderson; Bell, Lowry, Onyedinma; Woodrow

Fulham
Harry Wilson, Antonee Robinson, Joachim Andersen, Rodrigo Muniz, and Samuel Chukwueze are all expected to miss out through injury. Fulham will shape up in a 4-2-3-1 formation vs Wycombe Wanderers, with Bernd Leno in goal.

Kenny Tete and Ryan Sessegnon will start as the full-backs here, and they will look to help the team at both ends of the pitch. Issa Diop will form the central defensive partnership alongside Calvin Bassey.

As for the midfield unit, Sander Berge and Sasa Lukic will add defensive cover and physicality in the middle of the park. They will look to break up the opposition's attacking moves and set up transitions for their team.

Joshua King will be the attacking midfielder here, and he will look to link the midfield with the attack. Adama Traore and Alex Iwobi will start on the flanks. They will look to add pace and flair to the side. Finally, Jonah Kusi-Asare will spearhead the Fulham attack vs Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Leno, Tete, Diop, Bassey, Sessegnon, Berge, Lukic; Traore, King, Iwobi, Kusi-Asare.

Key Stats

Fulham have picked up four wins from the last six matches against Wycombe Wanderers.
Wycombe Wanderers are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions.
14 goals have been scored in the last six meetings between these two teams.
Fulham have lost their last four matches in all competitions.

Player to Watch
Joshua King
The Fulham prodigy is the key player to watch out for, and they will need him to step up and produce a strong performance. The youngster is undoubtedly the best attacker at the club after the injured Muniz, and Marco Silva will need him to dismantle the Wycombe defence.

King will need to create opportunities for his teammates and find the back of the net. It will be interesting to see if he can make a defining impact and help his team progress through to the next round of the competition.

Prediction
Wycombe Wanderers 1-2 Fulham
Both teams will be fighting for a victory here, and it should be a cracking contest. On paper, Fulham are the far better team, and they should be able to grind out a comfortable victory. However, the Cottagers are completely lacking in confidence and momentum right now. This will be a potential banana-skin fixture for them.

The away side will need to step up and produce a thoroughly professional performance. Wycombe Wanderers will look to make life difficult for them, and both sides are likely to get on the scoresheet.

However, Fulham have more experience and quality in the attacking unit, and they should be able to edge this one. A narrow victory for the away team is likely. The Hard Tackle predicts a 2-1 win for Marco Silva and his charges.

Michael Duff wants Wycombe's to 'create history' against Fulham
Wycombe Wanderers head coach Michael Duff has revealed his players have an 'opportunity to create their own history' when they play Fulham in the Carabao Cup.

The Premier League outfit travel to Adams Park for the last 16 clash, with the Chairboys being one of two League One teams to be in the fourth round.

It is the furthest the Light and Dark Blue Army have reached in the competition since getting to the semi-finals in 2006/07, and with Wycombe winning five of their last eight since Duff took over, he thinks his team should be 'full of confidence'.

Speaking ahead of the tie on October 28, Duff said: "It's an opportunity to test ourselves against a Premier League team, and sometimes it's good, even if you don't win.

"I want our players to express themselves.

"The players should be full of confidence as it's an opportunity for them to create their own history.

"It's a really good game [the cup tie against Fulham] off the back of that [the 3-0 home win against Huddersfield Town], along with the performance.

"If we got beaten heavily, you're thinking you've got a Premier League team at home, so you don't want another hiding.

"We're one of two League One teams in the last 16 of a national competition [the other being Cardiff City], so there is a chance to get the furthest from our league.

"There have been games in the past that people still talk about now, and the players have an opportunity to create their own history like the players did back then [in 2006/07]."

Including matches against the under 21s, there have been 16 matches between the two sides since the first meeting back in August 1997.

Versus the first team, Wycombe have won two of the 12 matches, drawing four times and losing on six occasions.

It's easier reading against the young Cottages, as Wanderers have played them four times, winning three and losing once.

All of these games have come in the EFL Trophy, one of which was earlier this month, which the Chairboys won 3-1.

Duff continued: "Every training session and game is an opportunity, and there will be a couple of changes based on fatigue and it being a three-game week.

"It's a free hit and you don't get many of them.

"We'll pick what we think is the best team as we might change shape and players, and it will be a good opportunity to rotate."

Confirmed team news: Chukwueze ruled out of Fulham's trip to Wycombe Wanderers
Fulham manager Marco Silva has confirmed that Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze will miss Tuesday's Carabao Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers due to injury.

The Nigerian international picked up an injury during the Super Eagles' 4-0 win over Benin's Cheetahs at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Chukwueze impressed in the first half of that encounter, providing two assists before being replaced at the start of the second half by Olakunle Olusegun.

Since sustaining the injury, the 26-year-old winger has missed Fulham's last two Premier League fixtures against Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Silva revealed that the Cottagers will be without several key players, including Chukwueze, for the midweek encounter.

"In terms of numbers I think we are going to have around six to seven players out again," Silva said to Fulham's official webpage.

"To be more clear, Antonee Robinson, Joachim Andersen, Emile Smith-Rowe, Rodrigo Muniz, Harry Wilson and Samuel Chukwueze."

Chukwueze joined Fulham on loan from AC Milan on deadline day, aiming to rediscover his best form in the Premier League.

He made an encouraging start to the season, registering one assist in his first two league appearances against Aston Villa and Bournemouth.

Chukwueze will now focus on making a swift recovery from his injury as he looks to regain fitness and continue his promising form for the Cottagers.

"Dr Efficiency" – Player having best career spell after Fulham exit
Carlos Vinícius is living one of the best spells of his career, following his permanent Fulham exit. The 30-year-old is making headlines in Brazil after scoring a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Juventude last weekend. It means he now has six goals in just seven games for Grêmio, as highlighted by outlet Terra.

The Brazilian's form has even caught the attention of his old club Tottenham. The club reacted to his latest performance with a light-hearted post on their Portuguese social media channel, writing "You're welcome, Grêmio".

Speaking after his hat-trick, Carlos Vinícius couldn't hide his joy at how things have clicked for him and the team in recent weeks. "You can tell when the team is doing well. Everything starts to flow," he said to Zero Hora, reflecting the confidence and happiness surrounding his new chapter in Brazil.

Vinícius spent the 2020/21 season with Spurs, where he netted ten goals in 22 appearances under José Mourinho. His most memorable outing came in the FA Cup, with hat-trick against non-league Marine. It was his last hat-trick until this weekend's heroics in Brazil.

After leaving Tottenham, Vinícius joined Fulham, where he played 49 games and scored eight goals in the Premier League. His poor spell at Craven Cottage ended in 2024. Since returning to Brazil, he has rediscovered his sharpness in front of goal.

Grêmio manager Mano Menezes praised the striker's attitude and work ethic,as told by Zero Hora. He revealed that the club's staff "felt something special" in their first meeting back in July. "He's the face of Grêmio," the coach said. "The players love him, they'll work for him if needed, and he works for them too."

Local pundits have been equally impressed. Globo Esporte's Maurício Saraiva called him "Dr. Efficiency", adding: "A centre-forward who shoots four times and scores three... where do I sign?"

Carlos Vinícius's turnaround since leaving England has been remarkable, and his current form suggests that his story still has several chapters to be written.

Marco Silva previews Carabao Cup clash with Wycombe
Fulham look to progress in the cup.

Marco Silva spoke about the preparation from Fulham for the Carabao Cup in midweek.

The Cottagers continued to suffer in the Premier League on the weekend as they conceded a last gasp winner from Bruno Guimaraes in a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United. The team are competitive, but the fine margins are not going their way. Their respite could be through the domestic cups.

With a triumph against Wycombe Wanderers, Fulham can get to the quarter-finals of this tournament and keep the hope of a major honour alive for a little longer. However, Silva has stressed that the attitude has to be correct from the get-go.

"We started to speak about this game straightaway after the Newcastle game, when – as you expect – the mood was down. And the end of my speech with the players, went in the direction of the Carabao Cup and the weekend's game [against Wolves].

EFL Cup: Super Eagles star out of contention as Fulham prepare for Wycombe Wanderers
Alex Iwobi reached 300 English Premier League games in Fulham's 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday...

Super Eagles and Fulham loanee Samuel Chukwueze has been ruled out of the Cottagers' fourth-round Carabao Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers this evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old moved to Craven Cottage on loan from Milan after a tough start to life at the San Siro.

However, the move to Fulham hasn't exactly gone great either. Chukwueze has played just 63 minutes of football, largely due to his struggles with injuries.

Chukwueze to miss Fulham's game against Wycombe
Prior to Fulham's 1-2 loss to Newcastle United over the weekend, the club coach, Marco Silva, already revealed the former Villarreal winger was a doubt to feature at St. James Park.

Upon further checks, Chukwueze was sanctioned from travelling with the team to Tyneside, and will now miss a chance to get more minutes at Adams Park tonight.

"In terms of numbers, I think we're going to have around six to seven players out of the squad again.

"To be clear, Joaching Anderson, Antonee Robinson, Emile Smith-Rowe, Rodrigo Muniz, Harry Wilson and Chukwueze," the former Watford coach said in his pre-game preview.

Despite the long injury list, the Portuguese coach wants his side to go further in the League Cup, and spurred them to make the most of the opportunity.

"First of all, here, no one underestimates the opposition at all. We know what these competitions mean for us, and for our opposition, it's always an opportunity.

"For us, it's an opportunity to go through in the competition, to arrive in certain stages, and the final stages of this competition.

"For our opposition, it's always a big chance the next day to be in the spotlight, to be in all the TV shows and newspapers and all that stuff.

"We know that, and we have to be very serious. But nothing different from the last games we have played in the competition.

"We prepare ourselves like we prepare for the Premier League games, and we have to go there and show our quality.

"Their enthusiasm is going to be top, and we have to have the same enthusiasm as well. The same will, the same desire, and after show why we are playing and competing in the Premier League," Marco Silva concluded.

Fulham haven't been in the best form this season; they've won just one game from their previous five, suffering four consecutive losses.

'I Regret': Steve Bruce sends Fulham and Brentford important Carabao Cup message
Brentford and Fulham could find themselves one step closer to Wembley Stadium after Tuesday night.

Former Premier League manager Steve Bruce has urged Fulham and Brentford to prioritise a strong cup run this week to avoid feeling the disappointment he felt during his career.

Fulham travel to League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday evening while Brentford make the journey to League Two side Grimsby Town with a place in the quarter final up for grabs. On paper, the Premier League sides should win those fixtures and then find themselves just three wins away from silverware.

As always, there will be a temptation for Marco Silva and Keith Andrews to rotate their squads against opposition from further down the football pyramid. Fulham have the visit of Wolves to think about on Saturday with Brentford making the short trip to Crystal Palace.

Steve Bruce sends Fulham and Brentford Carabao Cup message
Speaking on talkSPORT, Bruce reflected on his time at Hull City and admitted that a trip to Wembley cannot be overlooked by Brentford and Fulham. He said: "I can only go through experience and the type of club that Fulham or Brentford are, of course everyone wants to be in the Premier League, that's a given. I remember being in charge of Hull a few years ago and, all of a sudden, we had a little bit of momentum in the FA Cup.

"It gets to the fifth and sixth round and I thought, I'm going to forget about the Premier League for a moment here. We've got a chance because everyone else was rotating. We were playing Sunderland in the quarter final of the FA Cup, who put out a reserve team and thankfully we went on to beat them. When I look back on it now, if you're a supporter of Hull, Fulham, Brentford... your biggest day out is going to Wembley and trying to compete for a trophy.

"Back then I thought I had to rotate, and I did it with Hull in Europe when we went to Europe, which probably I regret now. When I look back at my time with all these clubs, getting to a final is probably the biggest day of fans' lives. It doesn't come around very often."

Last season, both Newcastle United and Crystal Palace broke trophy droughts with triumphs in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, which could serve as belief that Brentford or Fulham could taste underdog success.

Marco Silva aware of Wycombe Wanderers threat
Speaking ahead of facing Wycombe Wanderers, Fulham boss Silva said: "First of all, here, no one underestimates the opposition at all.

"Their enthusiasm is going to be top, and we have to have the same enthusiasm as well. The same will, the same desire, and after show why we are playing and competing in the Premier League."

Meanwhile, when asked about Grimsby Town, Brentford boss Andrews said: "To get to this point in the competition is significant for them. They have achieved a lot this season and are a very well-coached team. We have to be very respectful of them but we will be ready."
