Has actually signed for us and the loan till end of season was just a way the deal could be done?

There is no way he would of played today if we hadn't agreed to sign him officially in the summer.

Fulham paid a fee for him and the contract was until the end of the season. Not sure the legal ins and out but I presume if we pick up his contract for a further deal we will owe Villa  another fee.

As clubs are only allowed 2 loan players per transfer window (4 in a season) this explains why we could have Gud and Kaka on loan.

I thought his contract was up at the end of the year and we signed him on a short term contract until then, for a small fee. Then, if we stay up he extends the deal.

No I think you are right. Either way we paid a fee so not a loan player.
