Newcastle United vs Fulham early injury news as 5 ruled out and 2 doubts for Carabao Cup clash
All the early injury news surrounding Fulham and Newcastle United as they prepare to face off in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Fulham return to action on Wednesday night when they face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. The Cottagers picked up a win in the Premier League over the weekend, seeing off Burnley, and they will be looking to book a spot in the last four here.

Carabao Cup holders Newcastle will have other ideas, and they will be desperate to bounce back after a painful derby defeat over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday. The Magpies fans will be demanding a response here, particularly being at home.

Here we round up the latest injury news surrounding both sides heading into this one.

Kieran Trippier - Out
Trippier will be out until January, with Howe confirming at the end of November: "Kieran had a scan on his hamstring, and we think it is roughly about a month, give or take."

Sven Botman - Doubt
Botman could have a chance to return, but he still looks unlikely to with Howe having said last week: "Sven has had an injection in his back, I believe, but I haven't seen him personally since the Tottenham game. We hope that will bring about his return quite quickly, but we think there's a timeframe of about a week for the injection to work."

Nick Pope - Doubt
Pope is due back from a groin injury but he missed out over the weekend, so he will remain a doubt here until confirmed otherwise.

Emil Krafth - Out
Krafth has been dealing with a knee injury since November and there is no news on his return at this stage.

William Osula - Out
Osula is another player who has been out since November, and there is no update on his condition. Howe said last month: "It's something he's been feeling for a little bit, but it's been functional. He's been able to train and play. It was getting to the stage when it was affecting him a little bit more. He had a scan, and it told us to pull back a bit. It's not a serious injury; we expect it to be weeks, not any longer." Osula is expected to remain out.

Rodrigo Muniz - Out
This one will come a little too early for Muniz, who is going to be out for another week yet. Silva said recently: "He's getting better. I was just speaking with him, and he's getting good feelings. He's doing individual work on the [training] pitch."

Ryan Sessegnon - Out
It will also come a little too soon for Sessegnon, who is hoping to return before Christmas. Silva said in his last update: "It's getting better, but [he is] not at the point that he is going to be in contention. It is the type of situation that we have to see day-to-day, and to see how he is going to react. It is not something very serious... Probably will take a little bit more time, but I don't think that it is going to be something very, very long."

Harry Wilson stars as Fulham crack the Turf Moor curse
Sammy looks back at Saturday's historic win at Turf Moor

Goodison Park, Stamford Bridge and now Turf Moor. Records are there to be broken and in recent years we've been lucky enough to see some very long ones fall. Finally on Saturday, after 74 years, Fulham picked up a win away at Burnley.

Given that the Clarets are 19th in the table and were on a run of six successive defeats, it probably should have been a bit simpler, but Turf Moor was never going to let its stranglehold over Fulham go without putting up a fight.

The 3-2 victory definitely has a wide range of positives and negatives. The best thing about Fulham on Saturday night was undoubtedly Harry Wilson who played a part in all three of our goals, including what ended up being the winning goal - a beautiful and precise finish in front of the travelling Fulham supporters (massive respect to those that went up on Saturday despite the terrible public transport options)

I tweeted after the game that keeping Harry Wilson is probably the best bit of business we did in the summer. He looks super sharp and it it's so great that he's finally realising the potential in the top flight that we all knew he had.

Harry always had raw talent, but it feels like his game intelligence has been dialled up a notch. The split-second he took to assess his options before his cross to Calvin Bassey was evidence of a player who has really matured at this level.

Tying Harry down to a new contract feels like a no-brainer really. At 28, he has plenty of years ahead of him and surely that should be one of the club's biggest priorities. If there was a Player of the Season vote today, I think H would be a landslide winner.

However, it would be foolish to ignore some of Fulham's gaping holes on Saturday. Our defending at times was woeful, especially for both of Burnley's goals. It was wonderful to see Antonee Robinson back from an attacking point of view, but the rustiness in defence was there for all to see. I know xG is a bit of a mug's stat, but it does prove that we were sloppy and fortunate to only concede twice.

If you haven't watched it yet, then Dan Cooke's Quick Take is definitely one you should consume on Monday morning. Dan was obviously delighted to break the 74 year curse, but also rightly worried about our leakiness at the back. Dan pointed to our lack of control when we were 3-1 up, Marco really needs to find ways for us to take the sting out of games when we have the ascendency because there shouldn't have been any need for a tense end.

In the Player Ratings, Stephen Sheldrake obviously named Harry Wilson as the MOTM, but he also had high praise for Marco Silva. He praised the team's "distinct intensity", which I can definitely agree with. There's no doubt that we were well set-up and that our Portuguese gaffer is streets above his cardigan wearing counterpart.

I'd also recommend reading Owen McDonald's brilliant assessment of proceedings, as he also looked ahead to Wednesday's massive quarter-final against Newcastle United. Can we take advantage of their low morale after losing the Wear-Tyne derby on Sunday?

We have a massive couple of weeks ahead. A chance to reach the final 4 of a major competition and two further games against sides below us in the Premier League table. Win all three of those, and it really will be a Whites Christmas.

Interest building in player after €30m Fulham offer rejected
Fulham's failed move for Danilo is now seen in Brazil as the start of a wider story, rather than an isolated attempt.

According to FogãoNET, citing journalist Wellington Arruda, the former Nottingham Forest midfielder remains in demand and could receive a new official proposal soon.

In September, we covered that Fulham had a €30m bid rejected by John Textor's Botafogo. The offer arrived in the final hours of the transfer window.

Botafogo turned it down because they had no time to replace another midfielder. The club had already lost options in the same area and did not want to take further risks.

That context helps explain why the deal collapsed quickly and why it did not resurface on deadline day. The Brazilian press only became aware of the approach later, once the window had closed.

The timing still stands out. Danilo had only arrived in Rio in July, after leaving Nottingham Forest in a €22m move. Fulham's interest therefore came just weeks after his return to Brazilian football, showing that Premier League clubs continued to monitor him closely.

Danilo struggled with some injury issues after joining Botafogo. Even so, he ended 2025 with 17 appearances, one goal and four assists. Brazilian outlets now suggest the club expect renewed interest, with more approaches likely in the near future.

Whether Fulham come back remains unclear. Still, in Brazil the message is consistent. Danilo's future appears open, even after Botafogo blocked his exit once already.

Eight Things We Learnt From Burnley 2–3 Fulham
Burnley 2–3 Fulham. 74 years of hurt is put to rest at Turf Moor with Fulham's second consecutive away win.

It wasn't vintage or inspiring, but it got the job done, and with Fulham's away form of late, that will certainly do.

Here's eight things we learnt from Burnley 2–3 Fulham:

Bernd Leno: Back to His Best
After a few weeks that have seen Bernd Leno produces a performance on Saturday evening that saw Bernd return to his super self.

Throughout much of the first 25 minutes Burnley were the team producing the more quality chances, and it was Bernd Leno that stopped the clarets turning the first half scoreline on its head.

Crucial saves immediately after Fulham's opener, when Lesley Ugochukwu went one on one, and a stretched save on the stroke of half time from another Lesley Ugochukwu effort alongside a top stop to deny Braun Larsen an equaliser after an errant ESR back pass were saves only a top keeper could make.

If Fulham want to reach another league cup semi final this week, we'll need more carabao cup quarter heroics from SBLIG.

Raul Jimenez: Complete Non Factor
I've stood by Raul Jimenez throughout the last weeks, and I remain steadfast in that position, you can't blame Raul for playing through injury, and not looking like himself, but he was a complete non factor at Turf Moor.

Do you remember one time Raul made the ball stick? Do you remember one time he brought teammates into play? Do you even remember one of the 21 touches Raul had Saturday evening?

Raul's legs are clearly shot to pieces.

As far back as the Sunderland game, Jimenez looked like he couldn't handle too many more minutes, that was three weeks ago, four games ago.

How will Raul look after starting again in midweek? It dosent bare thinking about.

While I understand the lack of options Marco Silva has at striker, it's now Marco's duty to protect his player. It's time to take him out the firing line.

While Jonah Kusi Asare hasn't set the world alight in his limited minutes, he looked a handful against Manchester City.

Jonah deserves a chance in midweek – if Marco Silva wants any resemblance of a focal point that is.

Antonee Robinson: Improved Over the Course of 90 Minutes
Antonee Robinson being able to play his first 90 minutes is a positive regardless if performance.

But, it's fair to say that Jedi needed time to ease himself into the game.

Robinson started slow. He was at fault for the home side's equaliser, after being caught in two minds between Ugochukwu and Lyle Foster, and looked uncomfortable in possession throughout the early periods of the first half.

Jedi got his mojo back as the game went on, though.

The American played a lovely lofted ball into Harry Wilson that saw the Welshman find Calvin Bassey in the box for the Whites' second goal and created plenty of real estate for Samuel Chukwueze to drive into, thanks to a trademark Robinson overlapping run.

With three key players departing to AFCON, getting a fully fit Jedi back in the mix in time for a massive game midweek is a major plus.

Harry Wilson: Proper Barclaysman
Barclaysman, streets won't forget, whatever way you want to describe a technically elite winger capable of moments of magic on a regular basis, thats 25/26 Harry Wilson.

What more can I say? This is the fifth consecutive week I've lumped praise Harry's way!

Two assists, a goal, direct, tricky, and creative. Harry Wilson is everything you want in a winger.

Every single time the Welshman came forward on Saturday evening, he looked like the world was his oyster.

Quilindschy Hartman, a rare bright spark in a seemingly doomed Burnley side, will be having nightmares about Fulham's No.8 for weeks to come.

Emile Smith Rowe & Samuel Chukwueze: Free Flowing Football
Another assist for Sammy today, a goal for Emile too. How Emile and Sammy interacted with each other in the North West was fascinating.

Neither were consigned to their natural position, they interchanged with each other throughout.

Chukwueze often conducted play centrally, where Fulham got their third goal, with Emile looked a real threat coming inside off the left.

It's safe to say Emile has arrived. In the past five games, we have seen the Emile we paid £30m+ for.

Five passes into the final third, a constant threat to arrive late in the box – that just what you want from your number ten. Two errant back passes in his last two games, though? Not as much.

Chukwueze will be a massive miss, he has revolutionised the way Fulham attack. It'll be massive shoes for Kevin to fill.

The Nigerian was fouled the most times in the match yesterday (4), that shows how tricky, yet polished, customer Chuky is for opposition defences to deal with.

A joy to watch.

Alex Iwobi: CM a January Priority
Centrally, Alex Iwobi has looked a different player to the we saw for much of the last year, in his last two games in the middle of midfield, Alex has proved that he is no more than a temporary fix for Fulham's central midfield shaped hole.

Not completing a single tackle or dribble is hardly the makeup of a scintillating central display.

The former Arsenal man was schooled by Lesley Ugochukwu, a man that I'd potentially earmark to compete for the 29 year old's No.8 role this summer.

Calvin Bassey: Consistently Inconsistent Over 90 Minutes
Burnley away was a perfect microcosm of Calvin Bassey.

Dazzling runs past half the clarets side and a tidy headed finish at the back post was partnered with lazadasixal defending for Scott Parker's men's opener and Lesley's Ugochukwu's one on one that forced a save from the top draw from Bernd Leno.

While well will never see Jorge Cuenca driving through the heart of the opposing defence, I don't think we'll see him ball watching when doing what should be his primary job – defending.

General Synopsis: Job Done, But Worrying Signs Persist
Saturday evening's trip to Turf Moor was a must win at all costs. The fact that Fulham didn't dazzle their way to a romping away win is completely secondary.

With that said, there were some worrying facets of Fulham's display in Lancashire.

In truth, Fulham were lucky to go ahead in the first half.

Burnley controlled much of the game throughout the first half hour.

Was that a tactical decision, knowing Parker's men lack the incision to cause catastrophe in the final third? Perhaps. You do need to dig in away from home, but I worry that if Fulham can't control the middle of the pitch against the Clarets, who can we control the midfield against?

With how revolutionary Samuel Chukwueze has been to this Fulham attack, I worry that Kevin's undeveloped, one dimensional approach may seem a decline in Fulham's recently wicked attacking football.

At striker too, Fulham look completely shot to pieces. How bad must Jonah Kusi Asare be in training if he can't get a start over Raul, who looks at 50% at best.

On a more positive note, an increased reliance on Emile Smith Rowe and Harry Wilson excites me, more than it worries me, and the reemergence of Antonee Robinson is a massive plus point for FFC.

The three points was the goal, three points was the outcome. The Turf Moor curse is over. That's all that matters.

Marco Silva says motivation is high in the Fulham camp, as we target a second Carabao Cup Semi-Final in three years.

A tough challenge stands in our way, though, as we head to holders Newcastle United on Wednesday night for our Quarter-Final showdown.

"It's a big game," Silva admitted. "From the first moment of this competition, I've been saying that we aim high. Now that we are playing Quarter-Finals, with the chance to be in the Semi-Finals, we are not going to hide ourselves.

"We go to play the game with the full ambition that we can be in the Semi-Finals, because it's our aim, it's our ambition to be there.

"We play against a tough side – we have been very strong against them, like they have been against us, the games have been very competitive against each other recently.

"Probably one of the toughest places to play in this country, but at the same time, probably one of the best places to play football and to enjoy a football match in this country as well.

"And we have to go full of ambition that the Semi-Finals are there for one team to take, and let's hope it can be ourselves."

Silva has made no secret of his desire to bring silverware to the Club, and he knows the cup competitions offer the best opportunity to do that.

"Nothing is impossible in football, but we have to be realistic," he said. "The best way to achieve something, the cups are the way.

Marco Silva says silverware is the club's goal as Fulham prepare for their Carabao Cup quarter-final against Newcastle.

Fulham reached the semi-final of the competition two years ago but were beaten by Liverpool over two legs.

The Whites have been a round away from a trip to Wembley in the past three seasons, falling short each time, but boss Silva is looking to his side to go one better.

He regards the cup competitions as a chance for clubs like Fulham to taste glory.

"Nothing is impossible in football, but we have to be realistic. The best way for you to achieve something, the cups are the way," he said.

Newcastle United injury blow comes as boost for Fulham star in 'unstoppable' form - opinion
Eddie Howe is set to be without a key defender in midweek action, which could have one Fulham man licking his lips.

When Fulham were handed an away trip to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup quarter final, Marco Silva's side may have feared their cup run would likely be coming to an end.

The holders welcome the Cottagers under the lights at St James' Park on Wednesday night and, while the visitors remain underdogs, recent form works in the favour of Fulham. The London outfit go into the match with three wins in their last five Premier League matches, including a 3-2 triumph at Burnley on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Magpies will have their tails between their legs following a painful 1-0 defeat at rivals Sunderland on Sunday night. Eddie Howe isn't helped by a fresh injury blow either.

Newcastle United handed fresh injury blow after Sunderland defeat
Newcastle United defender Dan Burn lasted just 42 minutes in that match having been injured in a challenge with Sunderland star Nordi Mukiele. The Daily Mail now report that Burn has sustained a rib fracture having been taken to hospital at half time with breathing difficulties.

The 33-year-old has started every league match for Newcastle United this season, except for the 2-1 win over Manchester City, which he sat out of due to suspension. Burn's absence comes with Sven Botman, Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth also sidelined.

Howe will have to rework his back four and that could be music to the ears of in-form Fulham winger Harry Wilson. The Welshman has been in unstoppable form lately with three goals and three assists in his last four league outings.

Harry Wilson in 'best moment of his career' at Fulham
Wilson is electric on the right wing at the moment and Burn - who can play left back or left centre-back - would have had a key role in quieting his influence. Instead, that could be down to Lewis Hall and Fabian Schar.

Speaking about Wilson after the 28-year-old picked up a goal and two assists in the win over Burnley, Fulham boss Silva said: "Clearly in my opinion, he's in the best moment of his career so far. Both assists were top and his goal was a top, top level. Off the ball, he's working very hard to help the team. What a night from him – decisive again."

Silva will be aware of managing the load put on Wilson over the busy festive fixture period. The winger played 88 minutes against Crystal Palace and 89 minutes against Burnley. Fulham do have five days to recover after facing Newcastle United before hosting Nottingham Forest at Craven Cottage on Monday 22.

A rest on Wednesday night for Wilson seems unlikely. With Newcastle United weakened and a place in the semi-final at stake, it's another chance for the tricky forward to prove himself a matchwinner.

Fulham's Rodrigo Muniz was sent racist messages by troll who called him a 'f****** slave' after he scored twice against Liverpool, court hears
An internet troll targeted Fulham footballer Rodrigo Muniz with vile abuse after he scored goals in home and away fixtures against Liverpool.

Harry Brown, aged 25, contacted the Brazil-born Premier League forward on Instagram, calling him a 'f****** slave', telling him 'hope your family dies' and sending a monkey emoji.

Mr Muniz described having no previous contact from the Instagram account and had screenshotted the criminal content.

In a statement, he said: 'I was disgusted and offended by these comments.'

The centre forward, who joined Fulham in 2001 from Brazilian club Flamengo, said he believed the monkey emoji and use of the term 'slave' had been sent in a racial context due to his heritage.

The 24-year-old added: 'It is my opinion that the monkey emoji and using the term slave was sent as a racial insult due to my heritage.

'Also, wishing for my family to be hurt or die is grossly offensive.'

Brown, of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, pleaded guilty to offences under the Malicious Communications Act.

At a hearing today, Carlisle Magistrates' Court heard he targeted Muniz last season, initially after he scored for Fulham in a 2-2 draw at Anfield on December 14.

Straight after the match, he received a direct message from Brown which stated 'f****** slave' and 'hope your family gets hurt', the court was told.

Less than four months later on April 6, Brown sent more shocking abuse in another direct message after Mr Muniz played again as Fulham beat Liverpool 3-2 in a return league fixture between the two sides.

Prosecutor George Shelley told Carlisle Magistrates Court: 'On that occasion the complainant had scored in the fixture... at the same time, the defendant sent a message on Instagram saying: 'hope your family dies'.'

Brown also sent a monkey emoji to the player during the second game.

At court today, Brown admitted sending an electronic communication to Mr Muniz on two separate occasions, for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the player.

The charges were brought under the Malicious Communications Act 1988.

Brown fully admitted his criminal conduct when interviewed by police, and had committed no previous offences.

No mitigation was offered by Brown's solicitor, Trystan Roberts, after a district judge concluded that the case should be adjourned for the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report.

Brown remains on bail and is due to be sentenced at the Carlisle court on 22nd January, 2026.

He remains subject to bail conditions which ban him from being inside designated geographical areas before after football matches involving both Barrow and England.

An application by Cumbria police for a football banning order is also due to be considered at the next court hearing.

Marco Silva laments Fulham transfer strategy as key trio depart for AFCON
Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze could be absent until late January due to winter tournament

Marco Silva believes Fulham should have better planned their summer transfer window to lessen the impact of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Fulham are set to lose Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze for up to a month after the trio were called up to Nigeria's squad for the biennial tournament.

Ahead of an intensive festive period, which includes a Carabao Cup quarter-final away to Newcastle on Wednesday, Silva is without three of his key players and the Fulham boss admits the club should have left themselves better equipped to deal with their departures.

"If you lose three players, it's tough, but we knew that from last July," Silva said ahead of the trip to Tyneside.

"When we signed Chukwueze, we knew it, we should have been prepared for that situation. We have to face the competitions with the players we have."

Silva, who is out of contract next summer, has publicly criticised Fulham's transfer business, with the club completing the bulk of their signings on Deadline Day.

However, he reaffirmed that while there were no fresh developments in negotiations over a new deal, he remained committed to the club.

"When it makes sense to announce something, we will do it," Silva continued.

"I'm here 100 per cent committed to the football club, for the fans, for the club. Let's do our maximum everyday. Can be difficult under circumstances, but on paper, it's very simple."

Chukwueze's departure, which comes just as the winger was starting to hit form, is a huge blow for Fulham and Silva admits that with AFCON held every two years he is wary of becoming too reliant on African players.

"We are very very pleased to have these players with us. We believed in Calvin. I took Iwobi from Arsenal to Everton, then to Fulham.

"We have to be careful, if we sign more (African) players. We have to have the right balance."

Both teams will view the Premier League as their number one priority this season, but Fulham have never won the League Cup, so the London outfit are chasing some history in 2025-26.

Newcastle, meanwhile, famously won the EFL Cup in 2024-25, beating Liverpool in the final to secure the trophy for the first time.

Newcastle United and Fulham have faced each other a total of 83 times across all competitions, with the Magpies just edging the head-to-head record having posted 35 wins to the Cottagers' 33, while there have also been 15 draws between these two teams.

Their very first meeting took place back in March 1908 when Newcastle thrashed Fulham 6-0 in the FA Cup semi-finals, almost two years before beating them by a 4-0 scoreline in the second round.

Between 1934 and 1984, Newcastle and Fulham regularly butted heads in Divisions One and Two, with the Cottagers claiming 15 wins compared to the Magpies' 13 across 38 league encounters. Newcastle did come out on top in three of their five domestic cup ties during this period, though.

In the Premier League era (since 1992-93), Newcastle have faced Fulham on 35 occasions in the top flight and have won 16 times compared to the Cottagers' 14 triumphs, while the spoils have been shared just four times.

Fulham initially got the better of Newcastle, winning 12 times between 2001 and 2014, while the Cottagers also won both home and away against the Magpies when they locked horns in the Championship in the 2016-17 campaign, winning 4-1 on aggregate.

However, since then, Newcastle have accumulated 20 points across their last 10 Premier League meetings with Fulham, winning six of those including 4-0 and 4-1 away successes in May 2019 and October 2022 respectively.

Fulham's nine-game winless run against Newcastle was ended when Marco Silva's side secured a 3-1 home victory in the Premier League in September 2024, and they completed the double over the Magpies courtesy of a 2-1 comeback victory at St James' Park almost five months later.

Newcastle had their revenge in October 2025, though, coming up trumps via the same scoreline thanks to a last-gasp Bruno Guimaraes winner.

In the League Cup, the pair have met on three occasions, with Fulham winning twice, but they have not locked horns in this competition since 1981.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has admitted that he is unable to provide an exact timeline on Ryan Sessegnon's injury recovery.

The Cottagers are turning their focus to the EFL Cup after recording a 3-2 Premier League victory over Burnley at the weekend.

Fulham will head into their last-eight tie against Newcastle with the clear objective of reaching the semi-final stage for the second time in three seasons.

However, they will enter Wednesday's fixture without five players, including Rodrigo Muniz and Sessegnon due to hamstring injuries.

Muniz has been out of action since November 8, while Sessegnon has missed the last two Premier League matches.

Fulham have emerged as serious suitors for Fiorentina striker Moise Kean, TEAMtalk understands, teeing up a sensational return to the Premier League for the ex-Everton man.

The 25-year-old Italian international, who endured a difficult spell with the Toffees earlier in his career, is keen on a move back to England amid a frustrating season in Serie A.

Despite a recent contract extension until 2029, sources suggest Kean is open to a winter exit to reignite his career ahead of the World Cup, in which he hopes to play for Italy, if they qualify for the competition via the play-offs.
