Fabrizio Romano: Fulham in Talks to Sign 'Extraordinary' Man City Star in £35m Deal
Fulham are in talks to sign Manchester City forward Oscar Bobb in a £35m deal, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Craven Cottage side have reportedly submitted a transfer offer for the Norway international and are awaiting a response from their Premier League rivals.

Bobb is expected to depart Pep Guardiola's squad this month following Antoine Semenyo's arrival from Bournemouth in a £62.5m deal, having made only five league starts this season.

Borussia Dortmund are also reportedly keen on signing the 22-year-old and are expected to make a decision on a potential move soon.

Fulham Make Oscar Bobb Bid
According to Romano, Fulham are in ongoing negotiations with Man City over Bobb's arrival in January, while Dortmund continue to monitor the situation closely.

https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/2013551879691612555

Bobb has not featured for Man City since coming off with an injury in the League Cup win over Brentford in December and did not travel with the squad for their clash with Bodo/Glimt in Norway on Tuesday.

Guardiola remained coy when asked about the winger's continued absence, only saying: "He says he's not fit, so he's not fit."

Bobb has made 15 appearances, including nine starts, for City this season, and was substituted at half-time when given a rare opportunity to impress in the 2-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in November.

The 'extraordinary' Norway international, who joined City from Norwegian side Valerenga in 2019, has scored just once in 26 Premier League appearances to date.

Manchester City make £30m attacker available as Fulham in pole position to complete signing: report
Manchester City have a surplus of attacking talent following the purchase of Antoine Semenyo

When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here's how it works.

Manchester City have reportedly made one of their attackers available for sale this January, with fellow Premier League clubs said to be interested.

It follows the club's £65m move for former Bournemouth man Antoine Semenyo, who has started each of the Sky Blues' three games since joining the club.

That signing took their count of attackers who can play behind or around Erling Haaland to eight, with spaces limited in Pep Guardiola's XI.

Fulham in pole position to make Manchester City signing
The Catalan coach is known to prefer a smaller squad to avoid creating disharmony among his players, so it stands to reason that one may need to make way for Semenyo.

Reports are now surfacing as to who that man could be, but there may be some haggling to be done over the price City want.

According to transfers journalist David Ornstein in The Athletic, the Etihad Stadium outfit are open to selling young winger Oscar Bobb. The 22-year-old was a hot topic of conversation at the start of last season, but a leg break at the beginning of the campaign curtailed his season.

He started this term promisingly, making five Premier League starts, but between selection issues and fitness concerns, hasn't played a league game since November.

Now with the addition of Semenyo, who favours the same right-wing berth as Bobb, his access to first-team minutes looks even more difficult.

City are said to be looking for around £30m, according to Ornstein, with interest from the Premier League, Germany and Portugal, but he is valued at just under £22m on Transfermarkt, meaning some work may be required to find a price that works for both parties.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bobb is in talks with Fulham about a permanent switch to Craven Cottage, which could set the West Londoners back £35m.

In FourFourTwo's opinion, now would be a good time to move for Bobb.

Not only is he competing for minutes against Semenyo, one of the league's best forwards, he's also got the likes of Jeremy Doku, Omar Marmoush, Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki for company.

That's a lot of competition, and he's undoubtedly the junior party in that circle, so a more prominent place elsewhere would likely suit his career now.

His price is also unlikely to rise from this point, with the amount of football he's playing, so it'd be sensible for City to cash in now.

Calvin Bassey should slot straight back into Fulham's XI
Jorge Cuenca has performed admirably, but our 2024/25 POTS should return from AFCON as our starting centre-back.

The AFCON boys are back! And, boy, did we... cope so well without them.

Bar the debacle at Elland Road on the weekend, our time without Messrs Iwobi, Chukwueze and Bassey has been almost flawless - something no one (except Dan Cooke) could have predicted.

Jorge Cuenca has certainly played his part in that. The summer was punctuated by cries of #FreeCuenca from his adoring fans, all fuming that the Spanish centre-back wasn't getting a look in at the Cottage.

Even then, we'd all seen enough of the man brought in from Villareal to know those calls were justified; every time he comes in, he shows he's a top-level defender, and this period's been no different.

All that being said, for me (Clive), Calvin Bassey has got to come back in, if not for the visit of Brighton this Saturday, then certainly for our trip to Old Trafford.

Calvin wasn't rotated out for tactical reasons. He's not been on the treatment table. He's been arguably Nigeria's best player as they marched towards the AFCON semi-finals, ultimately finishing third.

The tournament (shambolic though it's been in places) has been Calvin's coming out party and he's been considered by many as the tournament's best defender. Neutrals have tuned in and been impressed his performances. His stock's never been higher, leading to the likes of Inter Milan casting their eye over him.

I mentioned the "use him or lose him" ultimatum from the Cuencaholics earlier - and the same is certainly true for Bassey.

Contract length isn't an issue; Calvin has a deal to the summer of 2027, with the club having an option which they'll obviously take, so we have him for at least another two-and-a-half years. But we'd be foolish to have last year's player of the season become disenchanted.

Cuenca is the same age as Bassey and has a tremendous upside. He has an authority and a calmness on the ball that gives us all a certain serenity in the stands, but I personally find Bassey the more exciting player. His ability to bring the ball forwards out of defence - and his penchant for popping up with a goal or two - make him more enjoyable to watch.

All that came home to roost last season with his POTS-winning campaign - and, lest we forget, he came second in the voting in his first season at the club. But it's not all been plain sailing. A rare dip in form earlier this season (when, let's be honest, most were playing below-par) drew calls for Cuenca to come in, but Bassey rallied and left for AFCON fresh off a curse-busting win at Turf Moor, during which he scored our second.

Ultimately, we're in a wonderful position whatever happens. We're blessed in central defence, especially when you factor in how capably Issa Diop has performed when called on. Player for player, we probably have the best centre-back quartet outside the top six. But, I think there's a clear hierarchy between first and second choice, so it shouldn't be too long before Calvin slots back in and picks up where he left off.

'Offer Sent': Fulham poised to beat Tottenham and Crystal Palace to 'incredible' £35m transfer
Manchester City are believed to have had interest from several Premier League clubs

Fulham are reportedly expected to beat Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace to the signing of in-demand Manchester City winger Oscar Bobb.

The highly-rated 22-year-old has only made five league starts under Pep Guardiola this season and has fallen even further down the pecking order after the arrival of Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth. Bobb has made a total of 47 appearances for the City first team, having graduated from the academy.

Bobb has not featured for the club since coming off with an injury in the Carabao Cup win over Brentford in December. He has not travelled with the squad for the Champions League clash with Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday amid transfer talk.

Fulham in talks with Man City over £35m transfer
There has been plenty of interest in the player, both from Premier League rivals and on the continent. However, it appears to be Fulham who are leading the race.

In his latest update on Tuesday morning, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote: "EXCLUSIVE: Fulham in talks to sign Oscar Bobb on permanent deal from Man City. Proposal around £35m on the table and being negotiated with #MCFC. Borussia Dortmund remain keen since December, set to decide about bidding or not soon."

That would suggest that Fulham are poised to win the race with a lack of decisive action from rivals. The Daily Mail had named Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace as potential suitors ahead of the January window with regular reports of those clubs still being linked to the winger since.

Tottenham and Crystal Palace also linked with 'incredible' winger
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has remained tight-lipped about the player's future and current absence from the squad. He recently said: "He says he's not fit, so he's not fit."

Bobb would offer Fulham versatility, being able to play on either flank and through the middle. His arrival would come at an important time with Adama Traore linked with West Ham and Harry Wilson's long-term future at Craven Cottage still up in the air.

In October, Guardiola heaped praise on Bobb and his workrate, in words that will be music to the ears of potential suitors. After a win over Brentford, Guardiola said: "Oscar defensively is a machine, he helped us a lot and in the final third. His one-v-one is really good and he made good decisions. I'm really pleased he played good.

"I will encourage him to be more incisive and when he goes one on one, two v two, he can create really big situations. He made an incredible pass to Phil which was a clear chance on the penalty spot that he should have got on target. In general, he was really, really good in that 1st half and defensively, offensively - in all aspects and he is a player we trust a lot."

Fabrizio Romano: Fulham in talks to sign Man City star in potential £35m deal
Fulham step up talks for City winger

Fulham have moved decisively in the market, opening talks to sign Oscar Bobb on a permanent deal from Manchester City. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, a proposal worth around £35m is on the table and currently being negotiated with City.

There is competition. Borussia Dortmund have remained keen since December and are expected to decide soon whether to formalise their interest. That looming decision adds urgency to Fulham's approach, but also underlines how highly Bobb is rated across Europe.

For Fulham, this is an assertive signal of intent. Moving early, setting a clear valuation and engaging City directly suggests a club confident in its trajectory and recruitment strategy.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis
Putting £35m on the table for a Manchester City player is not something Fulham fans would have imagined even a few seasons ago.

Bobb represents ambition and flair. Supporters crave players who can lift the mood at Craven Cottage, players you turn up early to watch warm up. The thought of beating Borussia Dortmund to a signing like this adds an extra thrill. It feels like Fulham are no longer shopping in the margins but stepping into genuine European level conversations.

There is also trust in the environment. Fans believe Fulham can offer something City cannot right now, regular minutes, responsibility and a team built to maximise attacking talent. The idea of Bobb becoming a focal point rather than a rotation option is hugely appealing.

Of course there is risk. £35m is serious money, and supporters know transfers are never guarantees. But this feels like a calculated leap rather than a reckless one. If Fulham pull this off, it would send a message to the league that progress is not theoretical anymore, it is happening.

For an excited fanbase, this is the sort of news that fuels belief well beyond one signing.

Fulham need just €5m more – Marco Silva's side almost there for transfer
Earlier in January, Messaggero Veneto reported a Fulham offer for Udinese midfielder Arthur Atta.

The London club were believed to have put forward €20m but this wasn't enough for the Italian side.

This was later confirmed by the Pozzo family's group sporting director Gianluca Nani, who ended up comparing Atta to Zinedine Zidane. That was one way of increasing his valuation, even if the Italian did go over the top.

Udinese are no strangers to that, as they are a classic selling club in Italy and know all the tactics.

Calciomercato IT take a closer look at the midfielder, who has risen in stature this season. He's played 16 times in Serie A, scoring once and assisting three times.

Juventus and Napoli have been keeping an eye on the Frenchman for a while, which is added to the Fulham interest. Despite that, the Italian giants 'both have other priorities' and this makes a move abroad the most likely possibility.

Fulham will have to shell out €25m to sign Atta, with the report confirming their previous offer. It is believed that Silva is pushing for him, with Udinese nearing a major capital gain.

The Friulian side paid €8m to sign him from Metz in 2025 after an initial loan. His value has risen because of impressive performances and Fulham have a chance of signing him in the middle of the season.

Fulham submit club-record £35m offer for "incredible" Premier League forward
Fulham have now submitted a £35m offer for an "incredible" new forward, who is in line to become their club-record signing.

Cottagers could be set to break transfer record again
The Cottagers smashed their transfer record in the summer transfer window, signing Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk in a £34.6m deal, but the Brazilian hasn't exactly made a flying start to life in the Premier League.

The forward is yet to open his account in the top flight, registering just two assists in his opening 18 matches, although he did manage to get on the scoresheet in the 3-1 FA Cup victory against Middlesbrough, which is an encouraging sign.

Marco Silva's side have risen to 11th in the Premier League table, having lost just one of their last seven games, which came against Leeds United last time out, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at Elland Road.

Despite the west Londoners' form, they remain keen on strengthening their squad this month, and bringing in fresh options in attack is on the agenda, with Deportivo La Coruna star Yeremay Hernandez being named as a target earlier in January.

However, there is also an option from much closer to home, with Fabrizio Romano revealing Fulham have now made a £35m offer for Manchester City forward Oscar Bobb, and talks over a deal for the Norwegian are currently ongoing.

The Cottagers are eager to secure Bobb's signature on a permanent basis, but there could be competition for his signature, as Borussia Dortmund are also keen, and the German club are set to decide whether they will make a bid in the near future.

Bobb could be "incredible" long-term signing for Fulham
With Kevin not exactly flourishing in the Premier League, it could make sense to bring in a new winger this month, and there are indications the Man City ace could be worth shelling out a club-record transfer fee to sign.

Lauded as "incredible" by City boss Pep Guardiola, the 22-year-old is a remarkable dribbler of the ball, averaging 3.39 successful take-ons per 90 over the past year, which ranks him in the top 1%, compared to his positional peers.

The 16-cap Norway international has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium, as a result of breaking his leg, which meant he missed almost the entirety of the 2024-25 campaign.

However, the 22-year-old has impressed when given the opportunity this season, grabbing an assist in a 4-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening day, before going on to set up Erling Haaland's goal in Norway's 4-1 win against Italy in November.

With Antoine Semenyo joining Man City, however, Bobb's game time could become even more limited, so he needs to move on this month, and given his age, the winger could be a fantastic signing for Fulham.

Fulham lead Troy Parrott race as three clubs target Republic of Ireland hero
The AZ Alkmaar striker has impressed in the Eredivisie and hit five goals against Portugal and Hungary to guide the Republic of Ireland into a World Cup 2026 play-off

Fulham are battling Wolfsburg and Real Betis in the race to sign Troy Parrott following his huge impact in the Republic of Ireland's quest to qualify for the World Cup 2026.

So far, the trio are the clubs that have gone in strongest in what is expected to be a wide race for the AZ Alkmaar forward over the next few months.

The 23-year-old's profile exploded after the five goals against Portugal and Hungary that sent Heimir Hallgrimsson's side into a World Cup play-off.

But that was only on the back of burgeoning development that had made a series of clubs around the Premier League and European football take note of his impact in the Netherlands.

Wolfsburg have talked about a €20m (£17.4m) deal, but it is understood that AZ would want even more. Fulham have so far shown the strongest interest from the Premier League.

Having energised his career at AZ, though, Parrott is understood to want to be very considerate about his next steps. While the forward does want to return to the Premier League at some point - he initially came through the Tottenham Hotspur system - any English move would have to fully make sense for both his current position and future prospects, which is why he is happy to stay in Europe.

The Bundesliga is an appealing option, particularly with the way the competition has proven so successful in developing young talent.

Away from his prolific run for his country, Parrott has hit nine goals in 13 Eredivisie games, with 10 more goals this term in Conference League qualifiers and the KNVB Cup.

Parrott is tied fourth in the Eredivisie top scorer standings, with Ayase Ueda clear with 18 goals in as many games for Feyenoord.

Now or never for Tottenham to sign Man City winger after Fulham near £35m agreement
Tottenham hold interest in signing Manchester City attacker Oscar Bobb, though with Fulham closing on a £35m agreement, it's now or never for Spurs.

Tottenham have tried and failed to sign two Man City forwards over the past two windows – Savinho last summer and Omar Marmoush in the current window.

Spurs also lost out to Pep Guardiola's side for Antoine Semenyo, while Fabrizio Romano has confirmed an audacious move for RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande has come to nothing.

However, Football Insider recently confirmed Tottenham had begun to explore a move that once again involved Man City.

It was claimed Spurs were showing interest in 22-year-old Oscar Bobb, who is the player Man City will sacrifice on the back of landing Semenyo.

The left-footer can play on either flank and according to David Ornstein when reporting on Tuesday morning, Bobb can go for around £30m.

A subsequent update from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano suggested the actual price Man City are demanding is slightly higher.

That came in an update on X in which Romano revealed Fulham have bid for the Norwegian. The package they've put forward verbally is worth £35m in total.

Club-to-club talks are progressing, though when adding further details on his YouTube channel, Romano stressed Fulham still have work to do on the player side.

That leaves the door ajar for suitors to strike, one of which is Borussia Dortmund. But of far greater interest to Tottenham fans will be whether their own club bites the bullet and makes a move.

Clearly, a deal is there to be made if bidding in the region of £35m. Tottenham would appear to be a sexier option than Fulham even despite their current turmoil.

The question now is do Spurs truly believe Bobb is the answer to their bluntness in attack? If the answer is yes, the time to act by hijacking Fulham's move is now.

One potential wrinkle in this story is the fact Bobb is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.

While that wouldn't result in him failing a medical, it would mean any buying club would be signing a player who isn't available to play straight away.

Sterling open to Serie A move despite Fulham and West Ham offers
Fabrizio Romano reports that Raheem Sterling remains an option for Napoli in the January transfer window as the English winger is tempted to try a new challenge abroad.

Chelsea winger Sterling would consider a move to Serie A in the winter transfer window, and Napoli are making their assessments regarding a possible deal.

Sterling must take pay cut to join Napoli
Sterling is no longer part of Chelsea's plans, so his transfer fee would not be an issue for Napoli, contrary to the player's salary.

Fabrizio Romano reports on YouTube that the 31-year-old would need to take a pay cut to move to the Stadio Maradona, but the opportunity to play abroad is appealing to the Chelsea player.

Sterling has reportedly received offers from Fulham and West Ham, but his priority is to try a new experience abroad and Napoli are aware of this opportunity.

Sterling a late transfer opportunity for Napoli
The defending Serie A champions, however, won't decide on Sterling shortly, as they must make financial assessments.

Much like the Noah Okafor deal in January 2025, Sterling is considered by Napoli as a potential late opportunity in the final days of the transfer window.

Fulham in talks to sign Man City winger Bobb
Fulham are in talks to sign winger Oscar Bobb from fellow Premier League side Manchester City.

The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola following the £62.5m signing of forward Antoine Semenyo this month.

Sources have told BBC Sport talks have taken place between the two clubs, but the Cottagers have yet to make a formal offer.

Bobb, who has also had interest from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, has featured 15 times for City this season without scoring.

He last played on 17 December against Brentford in the Carabao Cup, when he hobbled off injured inside the opening 20 minutes.

City face Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League group phase on Tuesday and when asked about Bobb's injury, Guardiola replied: "He says he is not fit, so he is not fit."

Semenyo's signing adds competition on the right wing, where Brazilian Savinho also plays, meaning Bobb may well be allowed to leave this month either on loan or a permanent transfer.

Fulham have lost only one of their past seven games under Marco Silva, sitting 11th in the table and progressing into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Bobb has featured six times for Norway this year, helping them qualify for this summer's World Cup, and would unite with compatriot Sander Berge at Craven Cottage.

He missed almost the whole of last season after fracturing a bone in his leg during training in August 2024.

Fulham offers £35m for signature of Norwegian international
Oscar Bobb is now approaching a departure from Manchester City, with the Premier League set to remain his next destination if negotiations proceed as expected. The arrival of Antoine Semenyo has accelerated Bobb's exit, as playing opportunities at the Etihad have become increasingly limited since the start of 2026. Prior to Semenyo's signing, it had already been anticipated that Bobb would seek more game time elsewhere, yet the Ghanaian forward's arrival has made his exit almost inevitable.

Interest from across Europe
Several clubs have expressed interest in securing Bobb's signature, with Borussia Dortmund initially appearing to be the frontrunners. The German side had been widely expected to complete a deal, offering him the prospect of a fresh challenge abroad. However, developments in recent days have suggested that another option is emerging, potentially keeping the Norwegian midfielder in England.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fulham have submitted a £35 million offer for Bobb, signalling a serious intent to bring him to Craven Cottage. The Premier League club have been monitoring his situation for some time and has now taken concrete steps to finalise a transfer before the current window closes. With just over a week remaining, urgency is mounting on all sides to complete the deal promptly.

A mutually beneficial move
For Bobb, a swift transfer would provide the opportunity for regular playing time and a new challenge, while Manchester City are understood to be content with facilitating his departure. If he agrees to join Fulham, all parties are expected to proceed quickly, allowing the player to integrate into his new squad ahead of the remainder of the season. The move would reflect a pragmatic approach by City to balance squad depth with player development, while offering Bobb a chance to reignite his career at a Premier League club where opportunities are more readily available.

Marco Silva all set for revenge on Everton as Fulham now favourites to sign £17m target
Everton sacked Marco Silva back in December 2019 as the Toffees sat 18th in the Premier League.

Despite a respectable record overall involving 24 wins and 12 draws from 60 games, the man born in Lisbon received his P45 at Everton directly after a humiliating 5-2 defeat against Liverpool.

Silva may have felt slightly aggrieved by that decision – made by Farhad Moshiri – and he could now get revenge on the Toffees by beating David Moyes to Troy Parrott.

Fulham now ahead of Everton in race to sign Troy Parrott
The Independent now state that Fulham are favourites to sign the Republic of Ireland international from AZ Alkmaar this month, despite interest from The Friedkin Group.

Wolfsburg have held talks over a £17.4m deal while Real Betis are interested as well, but the Cottagers are described as those in pole position and showing the "strongest" desire to strike an agreement.

It comes after Everton News learned that Parrott has been monitored since the start of this season, and The Friedkin Group remain alert to the Irishman as he sits on 19 goals in 25 appearances for AZ Alkmaar so far this term.

While it would undoubtedly be a blow for Everton to miss out on such a prolific striker to a direct rival, Moyes could benefit from a departure at Fulham.

Harry Wilson is a target – and Fulham are all of a sudden close to signing a very similar forward from Manchester City in Oscar Bobb, suggesting they could be about to cash in on the Welshman before his contract ends in July.

The Independent add that Parrott does plan to return to the Premier League at some point, having previously spent time with Tottenham, but is open to a move abroad too, with the Bundesliga particularly attractive to the 23-year-old.

Two other striker targets also seem to be moving away from Everton
The hunt for a new striker is not exactly going to plan this month.

Everton looked at Callum Wilson as the England international held talks about terminating his contract at West Ham, but he now looks set to remain with Nuno Espirito Santo after scoring a late winner against Tottenham on Saturday.

Everton initially wanted Youssef En-Nesyri on loan from Fenerbahce before looking at Wilson, but the Moroccan prefers a move to Italy over England as Napoli and Juventus also chase his signature.

Fortunately, Thierno Barry has started to shine with three goals in his last four Premier League appearances, but the search for another striker to compete with the Frenchman is clearly proving difficult.

Fulham close to completing signing of Bobb
Fulham are close to completing the signing of Oscar Bobb from Manchester City.

The Norwegian winger, 22, could be set to move to Craven Cottage in a deal that could be worth up to £35m.

He has featured in 15 games in all competitions so far this season, nine of which have been in the Premier League.

Bobb has been sidelined since last month with a hamstring injury.

Whites boss Marco Silva is keen to bolster his squad this month, and Bobb could be Fulham's first signing of the January window.

Fulham are also exploring a deal for PSV striker Ricardo Pepi.

Fulham in talks to sign Manchester City's Oscar Bobb - sources
Fulham are in talks with Manchester City over a move for winger Oscar Bobb, sources have told ESPN.

Bobb has been available this month after City signed Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth in a deal worth £64 million ($86m).

Fulham have made contact to assess the financial conditions necessary to bring the 22-year-old to Craven Cottage before the January transfer deadline.

Sources have told ESPN that City value the Norway international at around £30m ($40m) and would prefer a permanent deal in January rather than an initial loan with an obligation to make the move permanent in the summer.

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund have also shown interest in Bobb, but it is Fulham who lead the race for his signature.

One potential complication is that Bobb is sidelined with a muscle injury.

He was forced off early in the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Brentford in December and hasn't featured since.

Bobb was not part of the City squad which travelled to Norway for the Champions League clash with Bodo/Glimt on Wednesday. It's the latest set-back for Bobb, who missed almost the whole of last season with a broken leg.

He made six appearances last season and has appeared nine times in the current campaign, mostly from the bench.

Everton's first January signing could be a lightning-fast winger – if Fulham don't get there first
Everton have been linked with a bid for a hard-working winger from the Bundesliga - but Fulham are also said to be sniffing around this January.

Everton haven't yet made any moves in the January transfer window, but it seems unlikely that it stays that way. They've already been widely linked with both full-backs and forwards and seem set to dip their toes into the market very soon – but it could perhaps be for a very different kind of player, if a new report is to be believed.

According to transfer journalist Rudy Galetti, Everton are among a few different Premier League teams who have enquired about the availability of VfL Wolfsburg and Austria winger Patrick Wimmer – but who is Wimmer, would he suit David Moyes' system, and will they win the battle to sign him over a side like Fulham?

Why Everton might want to sign Patrick Wimmer this January
Wimmer, whose upbringing in rural Austria gives him a rather more bucolic origin story than most footballers, became a breakthrough star in the Bundesliga back in the 2021/22 season, when he found a vein of scintillating form for Arminia Bielefeld and earned himself a move to VfL Wolfsburg. For a couple of seasons, he was earmarked as one of the brightest stars in the league.

Now 24 years old, Wimmer hasn't quite become the superstar that many expected and he has never scored or assisted as many goals as he did in his first year with Wolfsburg, but he's still established himself as a regular starter for club and country – and earned himself a reputation as a versatile, hard-working player.

For most of his career, Wimmer has operated as a winger but he can play on either flank, up front or in midfield. This season, Wolfsburg have used him almost entirely down the left. The year before, he was more often deployed as a midfielder or supporting striker. Wherever he plays, however, he is endlessly industrious and impressively quick.

Few wingers force as many turnovers or press as effectively, and not that many are faster across the ground than Wimmer, who has been clocked at around 21mph. Certainly very few can plug as many other holes on a teamsheet if required, and his combination of pace and pressing quality should make him a natural fit for Moyes' direct playing style. The question is whether he produces enough in the final third.

Across the 2021/22 and 2022/23 season, Wimmer scored seven goals and produced 14 assists in the Bundesliga. In the two-and-a-half seasons since, he has scored at a similar rate but created half as many goals. In total, he has created 3.8xG's worth of chances in the league since the summer of 2023, less than in either of the two campaigns before.

A knee ligament injury in 2023 offers one possible explanation, but theirs is also a sense that Wimmer never quite refined his technique as well as he might have done. He is quick across the ground but his close control and passing leave a little to be desired. Precision is perhaps not his strong suit.

Still he's found a relatively rich vein of form lately, suggesting that he might be living up to some of his potential – he scored three and created two across a run of just three games in December, which may serve to explain the uptick of apparent interest from other teams. There us untapped talent, a strong suite of physical traits, and a work ethic that would shame most players. It's easy enough to see why Moyes might be keen on him, then, but how likely are the Toffees to get a deal done this January?

Will Everton make Wimmer their first winter signing?
According to Galetti's reporting, Wimmer has been "attracting strong interest" from both Italy and England – Lazio, Bologna and Fiorentina are all said to be keen, while four Premier League sides are allegedly asking after the Austrian, although only one is named.

Fulham are Everton's supposed rivals for Wimmer, and not only does his profile make sense for Marco Silva's methods too, they're certainly in the market for a winger this winter, especially since their first-choice target (PSV's Richardo Pepi) broke his arm. It wouldn't be a surprise, then, if Everton had company when the bidding begins.

Wolfsburg, for their part, are unlikely to stand in Wimmer's way if a fair offer comes in. He is under contract for 18 months more, and this may be the last chance for them to get a healthy transfer fee for him anyway.

Galetti doesn't claim to know how much Wolfsburg might demand for Wimmer, but Transfermarkt estimate his value at €15m (£13m) and that is already around three times more than they paid for him when he signed from Bielefeld. It should still be an amount that's well within the budget of sides like Everton and Fulham, too, so it's relatively unlikely that the finances of a deal present an insurmountable barrier.

Nor are Wolfsburg in a position in which they may get jittery about selling a reliable starter in mid-season. They are firmly in mid-table, with a large gap up towards the European places and a healthy enough buffer against relegation. As January transfers go, this should be on the easier end when it comes to negotiations.

Still, Galetti's story has yet to be corroborated by other outlets and he does not suggest that any advanced negotiations have taken place – he simply claims that the question has been asked and it seems that Everton have not yet acted on whatever response they received. Wimmer may well be of significant interest to them, but a deal is far from done.

Or perhaps this is just a case of a club doing due diligence, and they may well leave it to others to make a move. But Wimmer looks and smells like the kind of players whose energy, application and sheer speed might suit Moyes' style of play. It wouldn't be a shock if he did indeed end up at Everton – or a side much like them.

Fulham in talks to sign Oscar Bobb in £35 million deal
Marco Silva's Fulham are looking to beat Tottenham to the signature of Manchester City attacking sensation Oscar Bobb.

Oscar Bobb's future has been a massive talking point for weeks, as he hasn't had enough game time under Pep Guardiola and is willing to leave the club. Multiple top clubs in the country are aware of his situation and are willing to battle it out for his signature.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fulham are looking to beat the competition to sign the 22-year-old winger. The Cottagers have put forward a proposal worth £35 million, as they look to strike a deal with Manchester City.

Bobb joined the City youth setup in the summer of 2019. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team in the summer of 2023. He has only gone from strength to strength since.

The Norwegian winger has been involved in 47 matches and has contributed towards seven goals. While he is quite highly regarded by people at the club, the 22-year-old has struggled to get regular game time under Guardiola.

Bobb looks set to leave City this month
Having racked up just 739 minutes in the first half of the season, Bobb isn't pleased about his situation. Meanwhile, Antoine Semenyo's arrival from Bournemouth pushes him further down the pecking order. As a result, the City graduate is keen on leaving the club, and the Manchester-based giants are ready to negotiate his departure.

As per a report from Football Insider, Tottenham have been keeping tabs on him and would love to add him to their squad. Thomas Frank seeks more quality in the final third after a disappointing start, and the versatile Bobb can certainly help their cause.

Not only will he add more quality on the flanks, but he could also cover for James Maddison or Xavi Simons when needed. However, it seems Fulham are doing everything in their power to beat Spurs to his signature.

They are in talks to sign him on a permanent basis and have already put forward an offer worth £35 million. Negotiations between both parties continue, as they look to reach a common ground. While there are other top clubs that want Bobb, the Cottagers are moving quickly to ensure they can sign him.
