NFR A very proud bear

As some of my long suffering readers may recall, from time to time I have mentioned that Rupert Jnr, my son, plays American Football to a reasonable standard.

Yesterday he made his professional debut for Straubing Spiders in a pre-season friendly against Dresden Monarchs. He only arrived in Germany on Wednesday, had one training session and barely knows his team mates. Dresden are one of the top five European teams, so the Spiders were not expecting too much out of the game beyond a shake out and some team building.

It was televised, so we got the relevant channel up on the tv and settled down.

They drew 16 - 16. The boy done good, making two tackles for losses (making the opposition attack lose ground), one a solo effort, and showing he can make it at this level. Mrs Rupert said she thought the commentators called out his name, I confess it was difficult to make out as it was, naturally, in German.

Anyway, I am proud of my boy, and I want the Fulham family to know it.

I don't pretend to understand the game but I do understand how proud you must be that your son is succeeding in the top flight of a sport. Congratulations.
