Arsenal injury, suspension list and return dates for Fulham: Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber latest
Arsenal will look to strengthen their grip on top spot in the Premier League table when they welcome Fulham to the Emirates Stadium for Saturday evening's London derby.

The Gunners returned to winning ways last weekend with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United, a result that moved them three points clear of second-placed Manchester City.

This weekend's contest at the Emirates will see Arsenal play two games more than the Citizens, handing Mikel Arteta's side an opportunity to stretch their advantage at the summit, at least temporarily.

The Gunners come into this fixture on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie, and Arteta will be pleased that his squad appeared to emerge unscathed.

Riccardo Calafiori also returned as an unused substitute in that encounter, suggesting the Italian defender has fully recovered, although some players remain fitness concerns for the North London club.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their Premier League clash with Fulham, who arrive after a 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

Kai Havertz
Status: Major doubt

Type of injury: Muscle

Possible return date: May 2 (vs. Fulham)

Kai Havertz was forced off during the first half of last weekend's victory over Newcastle with what appeared to be a muscle problem and was also absent for the midweek trip to Madrid, leaving his participation on Saturday in doubt.

Jurrien Timber
Status: Major doubt

Type of injury: Ankle/Groin

Possible return date: May 2 (vs. Fulham)

Jurrien Timber has been sidelined since limping off against Everton in mid-March, and his comeback has been eagerly awaited by the Arsenal support in recent weeks.

However, Arteta revealed in the pre-match press conference for the Atletico game that they ''do not know yet'' when the Dutchman will return, making him a major doubt for this weekend's contest.

Mikel Merino
Status: Out

Type of injury: Foot

Possible return date: Unknown

Mikel Merino is still recovering from surgery on a fractured foot, and Arteta recently revealed, "It's a bit premature to say" whether he will feature again this season, although the Arsenal boss also stated that the Spanish midfielder is pushing hard to regain full fitness in time.

ARSENAL'S SUSPENSION LIST
Arsenal have no players suspended for Saturday's Premier League game against Fulham.

Preview: Arsenal vs Fulham - prediction, team news, lineups
Seeking to temporarily re-establish a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, Arsenal welcome Fulham to the Emirates for Saturday evening's London derby.

Mikel Arteta's men return home after a creditable 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, while their visitors scraped a 1-0 success over Mikel Arteta's predecessor last weekend, edging out Aston Villa on home soil.

Match preview
Paris Saint-Germain might have been able to postpone their league game in between their two UCL quarter-final clashes with Liverpool, as Ligue 1 sought to give the holders the best possible chance of progression, but Premier League teams are not afforded such a luxury.

Therefore, Arsenal must pit their wits against Fulham fewer than 72 hours on from a fiery stalemate with Atletico Madrid, who gave away a penalty for Viktor Gyokeres to convert, won one of their own for Julian Alvarez to hammer home, and escaped conceding another for a David Hancko 'foul' on Eberechi Eze.

A "fuming" Arteta did not hold his tongue when discussing the latter incident, but Arsenal are nevertheless in a favourable position ahead of next week's second leg, having equalled an all-time club record in the Spanish capital.

Back to domestic matters, Arsenal stopped the Premier League rot with a classic unconvincing 1-0 win vs. Newcastle United last weekend, snapping a run of four straight losses across league, FA Cup and EFL Cup action and moving three points clear of Manchester City in the process.

Arteta's men can now open up a six-point gap at the summit of the Premier League table, as the Sky Blues do not play again until Monday night against Everton, and their astounding record of just 11 goals conceded at the Emirates in the 2025-26 top flight makes for worrying reading for their goal-shy visitors.

A few hours before Arsenal's nervy one-goal victory last weekend, Fulham snapped their scoreless sequence courtesy of an identical triumph at home to Aston Villa, by virtue of Ryan Sessegnon's first-half strike.

Marco Silva's men had failed to fire in a 2-0 loss to Liverpool and goalless draw with Brentford prior to the visit of the Villans, but the Cottagers are now at least somewhat back among the goals amid a particularly trying attacking period.

Indeed, Fulham have only found the back of the net in two of their last seven games in all competitions - netting a mere four goals in that time - to slip down to 10th in the standings, albeit just two points below sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

European sojourns are therefore still not out of the question for the away side, but whether they would compete on the continent under Silva is a different matter, as the Portuguese is thought to be one of the top contenders for the vacant Chelsea job.

For now, Silva is simply striving to end Fulham's three-game winless and scoreless run on the road, while also bidding for a Cottagers club first; the visitors have never won a Premier League away match against the team starting that day at the top of the table.

The unpleasant statistics keep on coming for Fulham fans, as Arsenal have not lost any of their previous 32 league home games against the Cottagers - the most one team have ever gone without defeat to a single opponent in English football history.

Team News
Arsenal's Newcastle triumph did not come without sacrifice, as Eze and Kai Havertz both sustained muscular injuries; the former shook off his problem quickly to be involved on Wednesday, but Havertz was missing and is a major doubt for the weekend.

Arteta also suggested in his pre-Atletico press conference that Jurrien Timber (groin) was still some way away from being fully fit again, while Mikel Merino (foot) is still battling to return before the season finishes.

In brighter news, Riccardo Calafiori was an unused substitute on Wednesday after recovering from a knock, and the Italian could be promoted to the XI alongside the returning Bukayo Saka and Eze, both restricted to cameo roles at the Metropolitano.

On Fulham's side, Sessegnon's match-winning procession came to a premature end when he was forced off injured in the second half, but Silva is keeping his fingers crossed that the former Tottenham Hotspur man escaped serious injury.

However, Hale End product Alex Iwobi will not be reuniting with his boyhood club due to a thigh problem, while Kenny Tete and Kevin are both working their way back from ankle issues too.

Antonee Robinson is on standby in case Sessegnon is ruled out, while Bernd Leno and Emile Smith Rowe should start at their erstwhile home.

Arsenal possible starting lineup:

Raya; Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Gyokeres, Eze

Fulham possible starting lineup:

Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Lukic; Wilson, Smith Rowe, Chukwueze; Jimenez

We say: Arsenal 1-0 Fulham
Arsenal away has historically been a fruitless day for Fulham, and given the Cottagers' shortcomings in front of goal, that streak will almost certainly continue.

As was the case against Newcastle, Arteta's jaded men may only need one moment of magic - or one set-piece - to get the job done, and warm up for their Atletico reunion in ideal fashion.

From Portugal: Fresh club identify Fulham's Marco Silva as candidate
Fulham are facing the realistic prospect of losing Marco Silva this summer, with interest building from Portugal as his contract situation opens the door to a departure.

The 48-year-old is approaching the end of his deal at Fulham, and there is a growing sense he is preparing to close a five-year chapter in London. That alone puts the Premier League side in a delicate position ahead of the summer window.

According to Portuguese newspaper Record, SL Benfica have now identified Silva as one of the profiles they are considering for their managerial future. Even with José Mourinho expected to be in charge next season, Benfica are actively mapping out alternatives.

The key detail here is not an immediate move, but preparation. Benfica want options ready, and Silva fits what they are looking for.

Benfica's shortlist and Portuguese pull
Marco Silva's name carries weight in Portugal. He is not only Portuguese, but also familiar with the demands of the domestic game, with proven knowledge of the league.

Silva had a good spell at Sporting CP, one of Benfica's biggest rivals, before he came to England. He won the Taça de Portugal there in 2014/15 and laid the foundations for a successful generation at the club. That experience is seen as an asset.

There is also a personal connection with Benfica director-general Mário Branco. He worked with Silva at Estoril, during the early rise of the manager's career. That relationship is specifically highlighted in the report as a factor behind the interest.

Fulham situation and contract pressure
From Fulham's perspective, this is where things become more complicated.

Silva has built a stable and competitive side in the Premier League. Over the past two seasons, Fulham have consistently punched above expectations, often sitting comfortably mid-table and avoiding relegation concerns.

However, with his contract running down, the club are now exposed. There is no guarantee he will renew, more Premier League and European clubs have his name in their shortlist and now reports in Portugal suggest he is not planning to continue at Craven Cottage.

That would leave Fulham needing to act quickly. Losing a manager with clear tactical identity and experience is not easily solved.

What happens next
Marco Silva's situation now looks like one to watch closely over the coming weeks.

Benfica are not pushing for an immediate appointment, but their interest signals intent. They want a Portuguese coach with experience, authority, and understanding of the league. Silva ticks those boxes.

For Fulham, the timing is far from ideal. If Silva decides to move on, the club could be forced into a managerial search just as the summer window opens. That creates uncertainty around planning, recruitment, and squad direction.

As things stand, there is no formal move. Still, Benfica's positioning makes it clear they see Silva as a serious option – and Fulham may soon have a decision to deal with.

Fulham lineup vs. Arsenal: Predicted XI for Premier League fixture amid Ryan Sessegnon injury worry
Fulham's most recent match-winner Ryan Sessegnon is a moderate injury doubt for Saturday's Premier League match with London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates.

The former Tottenham Hotspur wide man struck the only goal in last weekend's 1-0 win over Aston Villa, but he then had to be withdrawn in the 81st minute with an unexplained issue.

Marco Silva is hopeful that Sessegnon has avoided a serious issue, but he also stressed the need to exercise caution over the 25-year-old given his rotten luck with injuries over the years.

With Antonee Robinson fit and raring to go, Silva may see no need to take a risk of Sessegnon, whose demotion could be the only change to an otherwise settled Cottagers XI.

If Sessegnon is indeed spared, Robinson would join Timothy Castagne, Joachim Andersen and Calvin Bassey in front of ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who made 125 appearances for the Gunners during a four-year spell from 2018 to 2022.

Another erstwhile Mikel Arteta student - Emile Smith Rowe - should line up in the number 10 position too, but fellow Hale End graduate Alex Iwobi will not be involved because of a thigh injury.

As a result, Harry Wilson and Samuel Chukwueze should continue in support of Raul Jimenez, who boasts two goals from his last four games against the Gunners.

Fulham possible starting lineup:
Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Lukic; Wilson, Smith Rowe, Chukwueze; Jimenez

Back to the Cottage mentioned in latest FFC programme
Opening the recent matchday programme for our home game against Aston Villa and we spotted some familiar pictures and stories as we spotted the words of John Burns, a member of Back to the Cottage, who shared his memories of the journey over the period when Fulham ground shared with Queens Park Rangers and the supporter-led work that ensured our return to our historic ground.

The article is shared below with the permission of Fulham FC.

Most fans know the Fulham Supporters' Trust and the role it plays. But do they know how – and why – it came about?
Its roots lie in a series of events that once threatened Fulham's very existence. It really was that serious. Supporters were being given no say, and many feared history might repeat itself.

Back in 1986, during the close season, I wandered past Craven Cottage and noticed it was being boarded up. To my horror, I discovered it was set to be demolished for housing. Had we been sold down the river, Brighton-style? Were Fulham to be cast out, with the Cottage gone for good?

Fans reacted quickly. Phone calls were made – including to the Chair of Hammersmith & Fulham's Planning Committee – and the demolition was halted. Word spread rapidly and supporters mobilised. Demonstrations followed, culminating in a pitch invasion of more than 4,000 fans, alongside the local MP, during a 2-2 draw with Walsall.

Speculators had already begun circling. At one point, a chairman was imposed with a plan to merge Fulham with QPR. In total, three developers had a go at dismantling the Club. What we needed was leadership, and we found it in Jimmy Hill. Not all of his methods were universally popular, but he was a passionate Fulham man who gave us direction and resolve. With the support of his board, Hammersmith & Fulham Council, and a downturn in the property market, the Club survived – and crucially, stayed at the Cottage.

Fast forward 15 years to 2001. Mohamed Al Fayed, our new benefactor, had taken Fulham to the top flight and now proposed redeveloping Craven Cottage to meet modern seating requirements. The plans looked ambitious and exciting. But they came with a catch: we would have to move out temporarily.

At first, supporters bought into it. We saw the designs, the model – even the now-infamous 'spaceship' – and Loftus Road was offered as a short-term home. It felt like a necessary step forward. But, as plans developed, timelines began to shift, and complexities emerged. Fans, along with local groups including the Fulham Society, took a close interest in how the redevelopment might unfold and what it would mean for the long-term future of the Club at Craven Cottage.

If supporters were to play a role in that conversation, it would have to come from within. Ahead of the Manchester United game on 19th October 2002, an email was circulated under the title: "If you care, read this." The response was immediate and significant, bringing together a wide group of like-minded fans.

'A proposed redevelopment of the Cottage came with a catch: we would have to move out temporarily.'

Through the Fulham Supporters' Club, a committee was formed to represent fans on the issue. Its aim was clear: to support the Club's long- term future at Craven Cottage. From that, the 'Back to the Cottage' campaign was born.

What started as a small group quickly grew into a movement of around 4,000 active supporters, backed by many more season-ticket holders. There was a strong sense of unity, with a shared focus on ensuring Fulham remained closely connected to its historic home.

The campaign organised, educated and engaged. Early efforts focused on meetings and leafleting, many held at the Hammersmith Society Rooms. As momentum grew, so too did the scale of activity, with marches, demonstrations and creative ways of raising awareness. Support extended beyond the fanbase. Politicians, community groups and supporters from other clubs all took an interest. There was even a meeting at Motspur Park attended by the Club's owner, reflecting the importance of the dialogue taking place.

Supporters Direct, who had experience of fan-led initiatives across the country, played an important role in guiding the group. Their involvement would eventually help lead to the formation of the Fulham Supporters' Trust.

At Old Trafford, Fulham supporters joined Manchester United fans in raising concerns about wider issues in the game, adding their own message to a national audience. There were also moments of tension, such as a march from Stamford Bridge to the Cottage, although these were generally outweighed by the positive and determined spirit of the campaign.

One of the most memorable events came in May 2003, when supporters organised a Thames flotilla to Charlton. After making their way along the river, fans marched with several Fulham legends from Greenwich to The Valley. Even in defeat, the effort drew warm recognition from Charlton supporters.

The wider football landscape also provided context.

Other clubs had faced extended periods away A from their traditional homes, and their experiences highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong connection between a club and its ground.

The campaign itself became both visible and inventive. Protest marches often carried themes, combining humour with a serious message. At Loftus Road, during a game against Middlesbrough in January 2003, a supporter dressed as an Egyptian mummy was bound to a corner flag in a light- hearted but pointed display. On another occasion, a Fulham Flutter winner made a memorable appeal over the microphone, urging: "Chairman Mo, take us home."

Behind the scenes, the situation remained complex.

Craven Cottage's location made it a unique and valuable site, and there were many factors to consider within the redevelopment process. Supporters responded by engaging closely with the detail, seeking to better understand proposals and contribute constructively to the wider conversation.

'It was a long, hard-fought struggle, driven by supporters who refused to accept the loss of their Club's home.'

Hammersmith & Fulham Council reaffirmed its longstanding position in support of maintaining football within the borough, while the Cottage's listed status and heritage added further weight to its significance. As the late Derry Quigley memorably described it, the ground felt "de facto consecrated" – a place of deep importance to generations of supporters.

Momentum continued to build. Former players, including Johnny Haynes, spoke of the importance of Craven Cottage, while media coverage and supporter publications helped keep the issue in the spotlight. The conversation even reached City Hall, where a conference on London's football clubs and their grounds was held under Mayor Ken Livingstone.

Meanwhile, Craven Cottage itself remained unused. With no obvious alternative site within the borough, and Loftus Road presenting practical limitations as a longer-term solution, attention increasingly turned towards how a return might be achieved. Supporters explored potential solutions, including the installation of seating to meet requirements, drawing inspiration from initiatives at other clubs. It was a significant collective effort, reflecting both creativity and commitment.

In time, circumstances began to align. Planning challenges, practical considerations and wider factors all played a part in shaping the next steps. The shared objective of returning Fulham to Craven Cottage gathered momentum.

Ahead of the 2004/05 season, the ground was brought back into use. Temporary stands were installed, seating requirements were met, and Fulham returned home. The 'Back to the Cottage' campaign played a crucial role in that outcome. It was a long, hard-fought struggle, driven by supporters who refused to accept the loss of their Club's home.

From that movement came something lasting: a stronger, more organised fanbase, and ultimately the formation of the Fulham Supporters' Trust. Without that fight, Fulham's story might have been very different.

Arsenal vs Fulham Prediction: Can Gunners Go Six Points Clear in Premier League Title Race?
Victory over Fulham at Emirates Stadium would put Arsenal six points clear at the Premier League summit and increase the pressure on title rivals Manchester City. We look ahead to the match with our Arsenal vs Fulham preview and prediction.

Arsenal vs Fulham: The Key Stats

Arsenal are overwhelming favourites to take all three points, winning against Fulham in 72.1% of the Opta supercomputer's pre-match simulations.
Arsenal have scored 17 goals from corners in the Premier League this season, including their winner against Newcastle United last time out – the most any side has netted in a single campaign in the competition.
Fulham are one of only two teams to have avoided conceding in the opening quarter of an hour of Premier League matches this season, alongside Man City.

Arsenal have a chance to open up a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League when they take on Fulham at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

It was only last week that Manchester City displaced the Gunners at the summit by following up a 2-1 win over Mikel Arteta's side with a 1-0 victory at Burnley.

However, Arsenal defeated Newcastle United 1-0 while City took part in the FA Cup last weekend, and Pep Guardiola's side are not back in Premier League action until a trip to Everton on Monday.

The Gunners consequently have a chance to add some pressure on City, who will have two games in hand, by overcoming Fulham.

It will not be straightforward by any means, though, as Arsenal have a quick turnaround from their Champions League semi-final first leg – a 1-1 draw away to Atlético Madrid on Wednesday; they will need to avoid the distraction of having a chance to reach the final for the first time since the 2005-06 season in the return leg on Tuesday.

That is an essential part of competing for multiple honours, and Arteta's side have proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with on their own patch.

Arsenal have conceded just 11 goals in their 17 Premier League home games this season, only failing to find the net themselves once. The two home games in which they conceded more than once this term were their only defeats (3-2 against Manchester United, 2-1 against Bournemouth).

Eberechi Eze has also performed impressively in London, where he has scored all seven of his top-flight goals for Arsenal. Only Olivier Giroud (14) and Tony Adams (12) have had more consecutive goals in the capital from the start of their Premier League career for the Gunners.

Fulham, meanwhile, have failed to score in four of their last six league games, denting their hopes of qualifying for European competition.

However, with sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion just two points ahead of them, they will be keen to quickly turn their form around as the campaign reaches its climax.

Harry Wilson will undoubtedly play an integral role if they are to spring an upset, having provided more goals (10) and assists (6) in the Premier League this season than any of his teammates. He is also one of just 13 players across the whole division to have played both 100+ passes into the opposition box (137) and had 100+ touches in the opponent's area (100).

Fulham will hope to have Alex Iwobi back from a thigh injury to face his former club, while doubts remain around the fitness of Kevin and Kenny Tete.

Arsenal may be able to call upon Kai Havertz and Jurriën Timber, both of whom missed the semi-final first leg against Atléti, but Mikel Merino is still out with a foot issue.

Arsenal vs Fulham Head-to-Head
History is well and truly on Arsenal's side in this fixture; the Gunners have not lost in 32 home league games against Fulham (W25 D7), which is the most any side has faced another without defeat in English Football League history.

Furthermore, Fulham have never won a Premier League away game against the leaders in 13 attempts, drawing three and losing 10. This is their first trip to the team that is top since drawing 2-2 at Liverpool in December 2024.

The Cottagers have won just one of their last 15 top-flight games against Arsenal (D4 L10) – a 2-1 home victory in December 2023 denied Arteta's side the chance to finish the year on top of the table.

Arsenal vs Fulham Prediction
It's hard to look past Arsenal, who came out on top in 72.1% of the Opta supercomputer's 10,000 pre-match simulations.

Fulham are well and truly up against it with a win probability of just 11.9% – lower than the 16% likelihood of the spoils being shared.

Arsenal vs Fulham Predicted Lineups
Arsenal: David Raya, Cristhian Mosquera, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice, Martín Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Viktor Gyökeres.

Head coach: Mikel Arteta

Fulham: Bernd Leno, Timothy Castagne, Joachim Andersen, Calvin Bassey, Antonee Robinson, Sander Berge, Sasa Lukic, Harry Wilson, Emile Smith Rowe, Samuel Chukwueze, Raúl Jiménez.

Head coach: Marco Silva

Fulham hesitant to pay €24 million for Samuel Chukwueze
Fulham will reportedly look to sign 58-cap Nigerian international Samuel Chukwueze on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window, but the Cottagers are unwilling to pay AC Milan's full €24 million asking price.

According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Fulham will aim to complete a permanent move for Samuel Chukwueze after the 2024/25 season concludes. The West London club signed the 26-year-old winger on a season-long loan deal from AC Milan, which includes an option to purchase him for €24 million.

However, despite being keen on securing Chukwueze's services permanently, they consider the valuation excessive and will unlikely trigger the purchase clause without renegotiating the fee. While the Cottagers remain confident in Chukwueze's potential and wish to extend his stay at Craven Cottage beyond this season, they are hesitant about the current price tag. The report does not specify how much Fulham would be willing to offer for the Nigerian international, creating uncertainty around whether negotiations with AC Milan will prove fruitful.

Samuel Chukwueze Transfer to Fulham: What's Happened So Far?
Samuel Chukwueze's loan move to Fulham has produced mixed results since his arrival last summer. The 26-year-old came to Craven Cottage following an underwhelming spell with AC Milan, where he struggled to establish consistency in Serie A. His early weeks in the Premier League showed promise, as he made an immediate impact. However, his form has become increasingly inconsistent as the season has progressed.

The Nigerian international has recorded three goals and four assists across 22 appearances for Fulham, contributing to one goal every 150 minutes of play. His influence has diminished since Oscar Bobb arrived from Manchester City, with the Norwegian immediately becoming a first-choice starter for Marco Silva. Despite facing increased competition, Chukwueze has done enough to convince Fulham to pursue a permanent deal this summer.

What's Next for Fulham's Transfer Strategy?
Although Samuel Chukwueze has not been a consistent first-choice starter for Fulham, his productivity rate demonstrates his utility to the team. Manager Marco Silva has shown faith in the winger's abilities, and a permanent arrangement appears likely if financial terms can be agreed upon. The challenge now lies in negotiating a reduced fee with AC Milan that satisfies both parties.

Additionally, Fulham face mounting pressure regarding Harry Wilson's future, as the Welsh winger has entered the final months of his contract with the club. With Wilson being pursued by several high-profile clubs, including Aston Villa, Fulham must prepare contingency plans.

While alternatives, such as Kareem Tunde, have emerged on Fulham's radar, retaining Chukwueze would be economically sensible given his familiarity with the club's system and teammates. However, until Fulham and AC Milan agree on a more realistic fee, the player's long-term status remains in limbo.

Vote Bernd for Premier League Save of the Month!
Bernd Leno's unbelievable reaction stop at the death against Brentford has been nominated for the Premier League's Coca-Cola Save of the Month award.

With chances at a premium, it looked like the hosts were going to snatch all three points when Dango Ouattara sent a close range effort goalwards in the 90th minute, only for Leno's left arm to shoot up out of nowhere and send the ball over.

"At first, I wasn't even sure if it was in or not, and then I saw all my mates come over!" Leno said at full-time. "It was a good moment. It was important for us, because I felt we deserved a point."

His competition for the April accolade comes from Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, Karl Darlow, Martin Dubravka and Antonin Kinsky. You can vote for Bernd below until midday on Monday.

Marco Silva to Chelsea: it couldn't happen... could it?
As reports claim Silva's on the Blue poo's shortlist, George ponders where he'd rank on the list of Fulham's biggest traitors.

After Chelsea sacked Liam Rosenior after just 106 days in charge, the BlueCo group are once again on the look out for a new manager.

Our former right-back has barely had time to pen his "five things tanking at Chelsea taught me about business" LinkedIn post this week, before a grim report in The Standard asserted that Marco Silva is in Chelsea's three-man shortlist for the vacant role.

Alongside our long-serving boss on the list are homesick Spaniard Andoni Iraola, and Xabi Alonso - whose treatment by many of Real's "Galacticos" mirrored the levels of disdain held by Chelsea's players towards their "supply teacher".

As the skeletons from the Abramovic era continue to tumble out of Stamford Bridge's many closets, you'd wonder why any manager would want to sip from that particular novichok-laden chalice.

My instant reaction upon heading the links were "surely not". After so many years and so much achieved, surely our manager has enough affection for the club not to stab us in the back like that? Plus, Marco himself recently snapped at a reporter who mentioned Chelsea's shortlist during a press conference. But then it got me thinking... could it actually happen? The answer is yes, sadly. To quote the great Mick McCarthy... "It can." Here's why.

Make no mistake: if Marco defected it would be the biggest heel turn since Anakin Skywalker slaughtered those Younglings in the Jedi Council's chambers. However, the sad possibility of it happening is very real. The bookies have him as third favourite for the Chelsea job, but Iraola looks destined for a return to Spain, and after his ill-fated spell at Real Madrid, Alonso will need to do some serious "aura farming" if his ego is to return to the size Chelsea require of their managers.

As we approach summer with Marco's contract still unsigned, the man whom we owe so much could start to look increasingly like a man checking the structural integrity of the bridge he's about to burn.

To those saying "Marco wouldn't do that to us," I remind you of the infamous Watford-to-Everton saga, when Everton were accused of tapping up Silva while he was flying high with Watford. Despite initially staying with the Hornets, Silva's head had been turned and he continued to coquettishly peer over his shoulder at Farhad Moshiri for the remainder of his tenure, while their league form bombed.

While Watford and Everton aren't direct rivals, and Silva is currently a free agent, what this incident proves is his willingness to jump ship once a bigger club starts fluttering their eyelashes. Marco has always believed he is a Champions League-quality manager, and I don't disagree, but repeated "will he, won't he" contract sagas has left the fanbase feeling he potentially sees Fulham Football Club as a stepping stone. Throw into the mix the geographical convenience of the move and all of a sudden I'm actually starting to get a little bit worried.

We've had our fair share of traitors over the years, but these rumours got me thinking: where would Marco rank in our all-time list of club Judases if he were to defect? Let's have a look at the contenders...

Chris Martin
A gentle one to kick things off. I know this one is a bit of a stretch, seeing as technically he wasn't even our player, but in 2017, while on loan from Derby, Martin decided he simply didn't want to play for Fulham anymore because he wanted to go back to his parent club - like a homesick primary school kid on their first residential trip. Amazingly, he's still only the second most annoying person with that name.

Leslie Mark Hughes
In 2011, Hughes resigned as Fulham manager after one season, infamously citing Fulham's lack of ambition. He reportedly thought the Aston Villa job was his for the taking, before moving to our local rivals QPR in January 2012. This is my personal favourite. Who can forget beating Hughes' QPR at Loftus Road on that crisp, sunny day, as the Fulham faithful belted out "love your ambition, we're better than you!". Pavel Pogrebnyak wrote himself into Fulham folklore that day, replacing our former striker Bobby Zamora, who himself defected for the Hoops that January. As for Leslie, he's currently managing famously ambitious National League club Carlisle United. Expect great things from that man, one to watch for sure...

Bobby Zamora
Bit of a weird one, this... A stalwart of Roy Hodgson's side whose goals helped write the greatest chapter of our club's history. But the elephant in the room was that he never actually liked playing for us. Who can forget how he used to bizarrely call-out a section of the Hammersmith End every time he scored - allegedly because he heard them giving him abuse once - and therefore seemed to angrily celebrate each goal for the club during that season: "There you go, just scored the winner. Now shove it up your arse!". He of course followed Lesie to QPR, which is why he's on this list.

Clint Dempsey
It breaks my heart to include Deuce, as he probably remains to this day my favourite ever Fulham player despite this unfortunate saga. We loved him. He was our American hero. Then, in 2012, he decided he was too big for FFC and reportedly refused to play in order to force a move to Liverpool, before signing for Tottenham in a panic on deadline day. He eventually came back on loan and we've mostly forgiven him (because he's Clint Dempsey), but that summer felt like a messy breakup where your girlfriend leaves you for a model, gets rejected, then ends up with your cousin.

Aleksandar Mitrović
This one still stings. After cementing club legend status, we had ordered the block of marble his statue was due to be carved from. However, we were smacked in the face with reality after our talisman reportedly declared he would "never play for Fulham again" to force a move to Al-Hilal (of all the clubs) in 2023. We got the money, but we lost our king. A bleak reminder that as Fulham fans, we can never have nice things.

Tosin Adarabioyo
Like Marco, Tosin spent months nodding along to contract talks, only to walk out the door for nothing, joining Chelsea on a free transfer in 2024. I think I speak for all Fulham fans when I say that this betrayal has been worth it for the sheer comedy moments it has provided. He's settled like sleet at Chelsea. During their recent defeat at Craven Cottage, one Chelsea fan tweeted:

Supposedly a big reason for the move was because Tosin believes he should be playing for England, and a move would help put himself in the running for contention. Which reminds me, I would also like to publicly put myself in the running for a date with Margot Robbie please.

Let's face it: if Silva left for Chelsea it would feel like a special kind of dagger to the heart. He'd become the architect who burned down the cathedral he built; the disciple who had his head turned by 30 silver coins. This would constitute a level of betrayal usually reserved for Greek tragedies or The Godfather films: "I knew it was you, Marco. You broke my heart". Liverpool or United? We'd understand. Chelsea?! That's unforgivable.

Of course, some will argue that Marco should think twice. After all, the wrath of the Fulham faithful is a heavy burden to carry. No doubt the prospect of riling up the notoriously aggressive Riverside stand has Marco quaking in his Chelsea boots.

Jokes aside, if the unthinkable did happen, he would undoubtedly become the biggest traitor in the club's history.

Pre-Arsenal Press Conference
Marco Silva is determined to bring Fulham's winless run away at Arsenal to an end.

At both Highbury and the Emirates Stadium, Fulham have never won away at the Gunners in the Premier League era. It's a record that the boss is keen to bring to an end, with his side firmly in the hunt for a European spot.

With Arsenal fighting for their first Premier League title in 22 years, and with Manchester City breathing down their necks, Silva was asked in his pre-match press conference whether Fulham could take advantage of any tension and anxiety inside the Emirates on Saturday evening.

"Let's hope we can use that," Silva replied. "That depends on us, it depends on them, and it depends on many things. Whether the environment is tense or not depends on how we play and whether we are good enough to make it happen. Simple as that.

"Arsenal are a top side, a side that are title contenders, that play to win all of their games, but are also the most solid team in the league.

"They are a team, that even if they are not playing at their best level, they have other ways to punish the opposition.

"They are very difficult to play against. When at their best level, they are a top side. Compact, solid, they work hard off the ball, starting from the striker. They are a team that don't give up a lot of space to the opposition."

"You try to analyse them, and against Atlético Madrid, their frontline was [Viktor] Gyökeres, [Martin] Ødegaard, [Noni] Madueke and [Gabriel] Martinelli. But it could be [Bukayo] Saka, [Eberechi] Eze and [Leandro] Trossard. It's clear for us, that their squad depth is better than seasons before, so they can totally change their frontline. It speaks about themselves, and the quality and depth that they have."

"We also enjoy this type of situation, we just have to look at ourselves and be competitive to fight for the three points. Three points to fight for – and we will fight."

Arsenal XI vs Fulham: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup and injury latest for Premier League
Mikel Arteta faces rotation dilemma ahead of Champions League semi-final decider against Atletico Madrid

Mikel Arteta must decide how much he can afford to rotate when Arsenal host Fulham on Saturday evening.

It is a crucial match in the Premier League title race, with Arsenal having the chance to go six points clear of Manchester City, who don't go to Everton until Monday night, but it comes in the middle of the two legs of their Champions League semi-final tie against Atletico Madrid.

Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze both started on the bench for the first leg on Wednesday night and should come into the starting lineup this weekend.

Saka has not started a match since the Carabao Cup final in March but after two cameos as a substitute, Arsenal now need him to find his best form again.

Martin Odegaard came off early in the second half against Atletico having had some treatment on the touchline before half-time. Arsenal will desperately hope that is not another injury concern.

There are likely to be changes at full-back, with Riccardo Calafiori offering fresh legs and a chance to rest Piero Hincapie.

Arteta has consistently stuck with Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi in midfield. Myles Lewis-Skelly came off the bench to get some minutes in midfield against Newcastle, but it feels unlikely that Arteta will trust him from the start here.

Kai Havertz is a major doubt with the muscle injury that kept him out of the Atletico clash.

There is also uncertainty over the fitness of Jurrien Timber, who is yet to return to full first-team training following an ankle injury that has seen him miss the last nine games across all competitions.

Arteta will provide a full team news update at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1): Raya; Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Zubimendi; Saka, Odegaard, Eze; Gyokeres

Injured: Merino

Doubts: Havertz, Timber

Time and date: 5.30pm BST on Saturday May 2, 2026

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Arsenal vs Fulham: Gunners handed early boost for Fulham clash as Marco Silva confirms three injury absentees
Arsenal have been handed a boost ahead of Saturday's meeting with Fulham after Marco Silva confirmed he will be without three players for the Premier League encounter.

The Gunners are set to return to Premier League action after playing out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid.

Mikel Arteta's side are sitting three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the standings following last weekend's 1-0 win over Newcastle United, although their title rivals possess the advantage of a game in hand.

With the margins so close, Arsenal know they can ill-afford any slip-ups in Saturday's outing at the Emirates Stadium.

Silva provides Fulham injury update ahead of Arsenal match
The Gunners now know that their opponents will be without three players for the Premier League meeting.

Ryan Sessegnon is among those who will miss out after sustaining an injury and has been ruled out with an injury in Fulham's 1-0 win over Aston Villa - a game in which his first-half effort proved decisive.

"It's not good news about him (Sessegnon)," Silva told reporters in Thursday's pre-match press conference.

"Sessegnon is going to be out of the next game, and probably the one after will be the same story for him, and then we will have to assess him day by day.

"For the Arsenal game, for sure out. For the game after, for sure out.

"Alex [Iwobi] is out still, plus Kevin."

Former Arsenal man, Iwobi, sustained a hamstring problem in Fulham's goalless draw against Brentford earlier this month, while Kevin is continuing to work on his recovery from surgery on a foot injury.

Meanwhile, Silva also admitted that there are "some doubts" over other members of his squad.

Who will replace Sessegnon in Fulham's starting lineup?
With Sessegnon ruled out, USA international Antonee Robinson looks set to reclaim Fulham's left-back spot after settling for substitute appearances in the last two games.

Robinson could have the task of stopping Bukayo Saka, who is in contention to make his first start since returning from injury.

Timothy Castagne is set to start on the opposite side of the backline despite the possible return of Kenny Tete.

The Dutchman is in contention to make the matchday squad, but will not be fit to start in north London.

Team News: Sess ruled out of Arsenal clash
Ryan Sessegnon has been ruled out of Saturday's trip to Arsenal.

The left-back scored the only goal in last weekend's win over Aston Villa, but was forced off in the latter stages.

"It's not good news about him," said Silva when asked about the fitness of the 25-year-old.

"Sessegnon is going to be out of the next game, and probably the one after will be the same story for him, and then we will have to assess him day by day. For the Arsenal game, for sure out. For the game after, for sure out.

"Alex [Iwobi] is out still, plus Kevin. Kenny [Tete], we will have to see how he reacts from the last two sessions. He can probably be involved in the game.

"We have some doubts on some players, but we will assess them tomorrow to see how they react from things that happened in the week."

Silva: I pay no attention to being linked with Chelsea job
Marco Silva says he is paying no attention to being linked with Chelsea.

The Fulham boss is being considered by Chelsea following the Blues' recent sacking of head coach Liam Rosenior.

Silva's contract at Craven Cottage expires this summer and he has so-far not agreed a new deal.

Asked if he feels flattered to be linked with the Chelsea job, he said: "I don't pay any attention. Decisive games for us and all focus will be on Arsenal and what we have to do against them."

Silva also insisted that staying at Fulham is not dependent on them getting a place in Europe.

The Whites, who face leaders Arsenal on Saturday, are 10th in the Premier League table, just two points behind sixth-placed Brighton with four matches of the season remaining.

"Nothing is going to affect or not affect," he said.

"It would be a decision that I and the club are going to take together.

"Many things are there. We are completely on the same page and aligned with what will be necessary for the club for the future. The future of the club is always there.

"It's a fight. We are in a big fight with many teams for the European places. If we make it, the team will be great."

Silva confirmed that Ryan Sessegnon is out injured and will miss this weekend's game along with Alex Iwobi and Kevin.

Kenny Tete is "maybe in contention" for a place on the bench but the derby is "too soon for him to start," Silva added.

Arsenal vs Fulham injury news latest as manager confirms fresh blow
Arsenal face Fulham in the Premier League this weekend and Marco Silva will be unable to call on a key player due to injury

Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon has been ruled out of the Premier League clash against Arsenal this Saturday. Marco Silva confirmed the fresh blow when issuing a team news update on Thursday, with the Cottagers' head coach also confirming two others are still out, but that one key player could return.

He said on Thursday: "It's not good news. Sessegnon is going to be out of the next game, and probably the one after will be the same story for him, and then we will have to assess him day by day.

Losing Sessegnon for the trip to Emirates Stadium is quite the blow for Fulham, with the former Tottenham star having scored the winner against Aston Villa last weekend.

Silva does have Antonee Robinson to call on, though, with the USMNT star back fit after a challenging season with injuries. Kai Havertz has also seen his campaign plagued by issues with the 26-year-old currently unavailable.

He picked up a new problem during the win over Newcastle United which saw him miss the Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid.

Both Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka came off the bench having overcome recent injuries, with the latter's nine-minute cameo last weekend his first appearance since mid-March.

The England winger subsequently played the final 22 minutes in the Spanish capital which means he could start against Fulham on Saturday evening.

That game is one of four huge league games remaining for Mikel Arteta's side with the Premier League title up for grabs. Manchester City play just over 48 hours after Arsenal as they head to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday evening to face Everton.

The Gunners' semi-final second leg follows in that midweek with a controversial 1-1 draw against Atletico played out on Wednesday.

Referee Danny Makkelie awarded three penalties on the night but only two stood - both of which were converted - with the third overturned following a VAR review.

On the incident, Arteta said: "What I'm incredibly fuming with is how the hell the penalty on Ebz gets overturned in the manner that it happened when there is no clear and obvious error. And this changes the course of the game. And at this level, I'm sorry but this cannot happen."

Arsenal vs Fulham: Premier League – teams, start, lineups, title race
Arsenal will move six points clear of EPL title rivals Man City, who will have two games in hand, if they beat Fulham.

Who: Arsenal vs Fulham
What: English Premier League
Where: Emirates Stadium, London, United Kingdom
When: Saturday, May 2, at 5:30pm (16:30 GMT)
How to follow: We'll have all the buildup on Al Jazeera Sport from 13:30 GMT in advance of our live text commentary stream.

For all the talk of ‌Arsenal having blown their Premier League title hopes after being reeled in by Manchester City, the truth is that come Saturday, they could have re-established a six-point lead to pile the pressure on Pep Guardiola's side.

City's 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on April 29 meant that, having trailed by 10 points a few weeks earlier, they were able to knock Mikel Arteta's side off the summit for the first time since October.

Momentum appeared to have shifted completely, but the fixture schedule may have come to Arsenal's rescue as they try to clinch a first English crown since 2004.

How can Arsenal re-establish their Premier League lead so quickly?
With City otherwise engaged in FA Cup semifinal action last weekend, Arsenal ground out a 1-0 home win over Newcastle United to end a four-match losing streak in domestic competitions.

On Saturday, they host London rivals Fulham while City do not play again in the league until Monday, when they face a tough-looking trip to European-chasing Everton.

While City would have two games in hand before they kick off at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the prospect of again having to make up a six-point gap with ‌absolutely no margin for error would be a serious test of their resolve.

How do Arsenal and Fulham shape up for Premier League clash?
According to data analysts Opta, Arsenal are still favourites to end the season on top – but that could all change if they stumble against Marco Silva's Fulham.

Sitting in 10th place with four games, Fulham are still very much in the hunt for European qualification and will be looking to exploit any Arsenal fatigue after Arteta's side's 1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semis on Wednesday.

"We will go there with no fear, and play for the badge," Fulham midfielder Josh King said.

Stat attack – Fulham at Arsenal
History will be a considerable comfort, however, to Arsenal fans struggling to cope with the title-race tension.

Fulham have played 32 times away to Arsenal in all competitions and never won.

City's record at Everton is equally impressive, though, losing none of their last 18 in all competitions and winning 15 of them and drawing three.

Whatever the outcome of Arsenal's derby with Fulham, a City win at Everton would then give them the chance to crank up the pressure as their next league game at home to Brentford comes the day before Arsenal's trip to West Ham United, a fixture being described as Arsenal's toughest in the run-in.

What happened the last time Arsenal played Fulham?
Arsenal beat Fulham 1-0 in the reverse fixture between the sides earlier this season at Craven Cottage.

Leandro Trossard scored the only goal of the game on October 18, in the 58th minute.

The home side failed to register a shot on target, while Arsenal managed five and had a 63 percent share of possession.

When did Fulham last beat Arsenal?
The west London club secured a 2-1 home win in the Premier League two seasons ago.

Raul Jimenez and Bobby De Cordova-Reid scored the goals to turn the game around following Bukayo Saka's fifth-minute opener.

Head-to-head
This will be the 67th meeting between the sides, with Arsenal winning 44 of the encounters and Fulham claiming the spoils nine times.

The first match between the sides came in 1904 in an FA Cup tie that Arsenal won 3-2.

The next game came 10 years later when the sides met in the league for the first time, with Fulham exacting revenge with a 6-1 home win in the old Division Two.

Arsenal team news
Both the German and fellow forward Eze were injured in the Premier League win against Newcastle last week, but the latter shrugged off his knock to appear as a substitute against Atletico.

Jurrien Timber and Mikel Merino are both definite absentees through injury, but Riccardo Calafiori returned to the bench for the Champions League game in midweek and could be in line for a start.

Arsenal predicted starting lineup
Raya; Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Gyokeres, Eze

Fulham team news
Former Tottenham winger Ryan Sessegnon could return from a knock sustained in Fulham's last outing, but Alex Iwobi's thigh problem means he will not face his former club.

Kenny Tete and Kevin remain confirmed absentees.

Fulham predicted starting lineup
Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Lukic; Wilson, Smith Rowe, Chukwueze; Jimenez

Chelsea, Benfica-linked Marco Silva reveals whether his Fulham future depends on European qualification
Fulham boss Marco Silva insists his future is not dependent on the club's European qualification bid.

Silva is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree a new deal with the west London club.

The Portuguese's contract situation and impressive work at Craven Cottage have led to links with Chelsea and Benfica.

The Blues are currently searching for a permanent successor for Liam Rosenior, who was relieved of his duties earlier this month.

Benfica, meanwhile, have put Silva on a shortlist of potential replacements for Real Madrid-linked Jose Mourinho.

Silva insists European qualification will not decide Fulham future
Speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Arsenal, Silva was asked whether the result of Fulham's European qualification bid could impact his final decision over his future.

"Nothing is going to affect or not affect," Silva told reporters at Thursday's pre-match press conference.

"It would be a decision that I and the club are going to take together. Many things are there.

"We are completely on the same page and aligned with what will be necessary for the club for the future. The future of the club is always there."

Silva dismisses Chelsea links
When asked about the links with Chelsea, Silva insisted his only focus is on his current work as Fulham manager.

"I don't pay any attention," Silva added. "Decisive games for us, and all focus will be on Arsenal and what we have to do against them."

In regard to Fulham's European bid, Silva's side will head to the Emirates Stadium in 10th position following last Saturday's 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

They are currently level on 48 points with Brentford and Chelsea, leaving them a point adrift of Bournemouth in the Conference League spot.
