Games for New Years Day 01/01/20

The “traditional” New Years Day game is against Reading at the Cottage.

Fulham v Reading

Well the Stoke game was more difficult than it needed to be but a wins and win and with other results going our way we’re back up to third.

It will be interesting to see if Hector gets to play, depending on how serious Mawson’s knock was and if he’s eligible as the “window” opens on the day of the game and he may need to be registered 24 hours previous to kick-off? Either way I hope he improves the back four but he may take some time to “bed in”.

Off the pitch there are a group of Reading and Fulham supporters walking the 40 miles from the Madejski to Craven Cottage!
“This will be the fifth walk between the two clubs which shows his huge passion for the cause.”
The team are keen for people to join them at Griffin Park for the last stretch of the walk and talk at 11am on New Year’s Day; to show a strong message of unity towards male suicide prevention, and encouraging openness of the battles with mental health.
If you want to take part, get in touch with the team via Twitter @walkandtalkMMH or Instagram @walkandtalk_MMH
You can donate to the team fundraising page and follow their progress using the hashtag #WalkAndTalkMMH

Games for the Weekend 29/12

Back to the Cottage this weekend for a Sunday kick-off this time to face Stoke City

Fulham v Stoke City

After the triumph against Leeds we came down to earth with a bump against Luton Town, at least we didn’t loose but we certainly didn’t deserve to win so a draw against one of the worst teams in the league was fair, we didn’t turn up!
So this weekend we get to play the team one place above Luton who they beat 3-0, at least we’re at home this time so that should be in our favour?
Our previous games against Stoke have been reasonably even affairs, seven wins, eight losses and one draw, the majority of these games were played in the Premiership.

Games for Boxing Day

For our post-Christmas game we travel up to Kenilworth Road to play Luton Town.

Luton Town v Fulham

So after an unexpected? result against Leeds we face Luton Town. When “the Hatters” visited Craven Cottage earlier in the season Mitro’ got himself a hat-trick, more of the same would be good. The final score was 3-2, which I think flattered Luton but having said that it was a good game and we can’t afford to go to sleep as we did towards the end of that game.

Luton are struggling a bit, they’ve lost their last 3 games and in November were beaten 7-0 when they played Brentford however, they have won against Wigan and Charlton.

Games for the Weekend 21/12

This weekend we welcome Leeds United to Craven Cottage for a 3 o’clock kick off.

Fulham v Leeds United

After our 3rd defeat in a row we now get to play probably our toughest opponents so far this season!
In some ways our current form could lull Leeds into a false sense? they’ve been outstanding all season and we’re constantly inconstant. If we play to our potential, we have to at some time? and if Leeds are a little overconfident then we will surprise them.

Our recent record against Leeds is interesting, we’ve won 2, lost 1 and drawn 5 so “history” shows that it should be a tight game.

Leeds captain and key defender Liam Cooper could be back in the heart of their defence, Mitro’ will give him a real test and should be an interesting contest between the two of them.

Games for the Weekend 14/12

This weekend we have another London derby when we travel up the road to Brentford.

Brentford v Fulham

Two defeats on the trot means that the next couple of games, this one and the next home game against Leeds could either confirm that we’re “real” promotion contenders or condemn us to the playoff’s (at best).

Our record against Brentford is indifferent, 2 wins, 4 losses and 3 draws and with their current form I can’t see us getting more than a draw when we really need a win.

Games for Mid-week 10/12

Yet another evening game, this time we travel to Deepdale to play Preston North End for a 19:45 kick-off.

Preston North End v Fulham

So our winning streak came to end with a home defeat, it had to end some time and in truth we didn’t play well enough, even with poor refereeing decisions, against Bristol City.
Neeskens Kebano, when he came on, showed some nice touches and AK47 changed the game, why didn’t he start? Away to Preston we’ll need to play a lot better and have a better game plan or we’ll get nothing out of the game.
Preston also lost at the weekend, they were away to QPR, so they’ll be looking to get a result against another “London” team. They’ve had a pretty consistent season so far being around or above sixth place, we’ve averaged ninth.
However our record against Preston is a good one, we’ve won four and drawn two.

Games for the Weekend 07/12

Saturday afternoon, 3 o’clock, how unusual we get to play Bristol City at the Cottage on a “normal” day and time.

Fulham v Bristol City

Our boys must be full of confidence as we’ve won four on the trot and we’re only five points from the top spot sitting just behind West Brom and Leeds in 3rd place.
Mitro is still on fire, 15 goals now and not looking to slow down anytime soon. Rodák has settled quickly, especially for a young goal keeper, he’s on 22, as keeper’s don’t normally hit their prime until their late 20’s or early 30’s, he’s a very exciting prospect.

Bristol City had a great result last weekend thumping Huddersfield 5-2. In recent years we’ve had mixed fortunes against Bristol City, we’ve only won twice and lost four times, once in a cup game.

Games for the Weekend 29/11

Yet another non-Saturday 3 o’clock kick-off, this time Friday 19:45 see’s us travel to Wales and the Liberty Stadium in order to take on Swansea City.

Swansea City v Fulham

Tuesday evening saw us gain a comfortable win over Derby, always a good thing! Swansea had a tough draw away to Huddersfield so both teams will be approaching this fixture with an air of confidence.
A couple of downers were the injuries to AK47 and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, a shame for both AK would have been hoping to cement his place in the team and Bobby Reid getting his first goal.
Swansea have been something of a bogie team for Fulham with 5 wins, 1 draw and only 2 wins for us against them. Let’s see if we can get a 3rd win against them!

Games for Mid-Week 26/11

Tuesday evening at the Cottage, this time we take on Derby County.

Fulham v Derby County

After a shaky start Friday evening the lads eventually came good with AK47 getting a couple of well taken goals.
Scotty Parker will have to think hard and long about his inclusion in the starting eleven now that Mitro has served his one match ban.
If the two of them could form a partnership they would be truly frightening to any team.

Derby also had a home win, their fifth successive home win, against Preston North End on Saturday however they’ve not had too much success on the road.

Games for the Weekend 22/11

So we get another Friday evening game, this time it’s against local rivals Queens Park Rangers.

Fulham v QPR

Is it me or do there seem to be far too many “international” breaks this early in the season?
Anyhow following our good away win unfortunately, due to collecting too many yellows, we’ll be without the leagues most potent attacker Mitro for this weeks game however, QPR will also be without Geoff Cameron for the same reason, clutching at straws I know but they’ll be without a “key” defender, perhaps they cancel each other?
Tom Cairney and Joe Bryan could be back from illness and injury so it will be interesting to see how Scott Parker lines up the team without Mitro?

Our “head to head” against QPR so far is 6 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws, following their home draw against Middlesborough last time out, QPR boss Mark Warburton said “We have taken two points from 12 but the boys have been hard done by in a couple of games.” I’m sure he’ll not be hard done by playing against us but I hope it turns out to be only two points from 15.
