Games for the weekend 03/10…

Another trip to the south coast, this time to take on Bournemouth with a 8 o’clock Friday evening kick off

Bournemouth v Fulham

After a disappointing, still a wins a win, cup game against Cambridge Utd, the Villa game was a different kettle of fish.
Once again we were denied a couple of penalties, and to add insult to injury Josh got booked for diving! I’m not sure that these things even themselves over the season, if they do then we’re in for a hat full of luck at some point?
Raúl going off injured, and with Muniz not being in the squad, meant we had to play without a striker, not ideal!
Muniz sounds as if he’ll be unavailable for some time, hopefully Raúl will only be out for a few days, if neither are fit for Friday’s game I’m not sure who’ll play up front as the young lad, on loan from Bayern, Kusi-Asare wasn’t even in the squad against Villa.

Bournemouth have had a good start to the season with wins against Wolves, Spurs, Brighton, losses to Liverpool and Brentford, with a draws against Newcastle and Leeds.

Our record, for the previous 8 games, is not that good with only 1 win, 3 losses and 4 draws.

My team to face the cherries would be, I’m going to be optimistic and have Raúl available…

Games for the weekend 28/09…

We get to travel to the “second city” to take on Aston Villa at their place for a Sunday 14:00 kick off

That was a very good performance against Brentford, I think its now become law that Harry has to score against them?
I felt for Josh, everyone makes mistakes, I hope that it wont effect him too much. I was surprised that Kevin didn’t start the game but Iwobi’s contribution, his goal and assist and all-round game shows that Marco know far more about his players than “we” do, well certainly more than I do.
Iwobi had probably his best game in a Fulham shirt both scoring and an wonderful pass to assist Harry’s goal.

The FoF stats man, LudlowRichard, came up with some interesting points from Saturday’s game…

     Harry Wilson's sublime goal last night was our 800th goal in the PL and the less sublime (but equally enjoyable) Brentford OG took us to 801 PL goals in our 689th PL fixture.
     By coincidence, the three points last night took our total PL points to 801.
     OGs for us in the PL now stand at 32, level with Steed.

Villa haven’t had the best start to the season and I’m sure before the season started they’ll have marked this game as an “easy” 3 points, lets hope they’ve got that wrong.

Our record, for the previous 8 games against Villa, is really not very good with 1 win and 7 losses.

League Cup – 25/09

We welcome Cambridge Utd to the Cottage for a game “under the lights” for a 19:45 kick off

Fulham v Cambridge Utd

Marco has said that he wants to take the cups seriously so a home win game against League One Cambridge Utd would see us through to the last 16. However I hope we don’t take this game as an easy win, no cup games are a given.
I think Marco will use this game to “blood” Kevin, King and Chukwueze as an attacking force, these three could be a potent attack throughout the season?

Cambridge won against Fleetwood, 2-1, on Saturday so will be full of confidence and looking to take a Premier League scalp having beaten Charlton 3-1 in the 2nd round.

We last played Cambridge in 2019, Cambridge won 1-3 at the Cottage.

Games for the weekend 20/09

A late kick off, 20:00, at the Cottage sees us take on Brentford under the flood lights

Fulham v Brentford

Two weeks in a row at the Cottage!, lets hope this game is a better one than against Leeds, still a win is a win, and on a positive note, how about Kevin!
I know we can’t say too much with only a 15(ish) minute cameo against, no offence, not really top class opposition but, what a player, he really looks the part! lets hope he carries on in the same manner and that Chukwueze and Kusi-Asare have similar impacts, we could be in for a really exciting season.

Brentford had a good game against Chelsea, one of our ‘old boys’, Carvalho, getting a 93rd minute equaliser.
It looks as if they relied on long throw-ins, something I’m sure we’ll be working on in training this week.

Our record, for the previous 8 games against the Bees, is reasonably good with 4 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw, including “the double” last season.

Games for the weekend 13/09…

We welcome Leeds to the Cottage for a 3 o’clock kick off

I’m still fuming about VAR and I really feel for Josh, having your debut premier league goal, especially against local rivals, disallowed for a non-foul a couple of minutes before, I would have been devastated! Then to add insult to injury they score past added time, the length of which was extended due to the 3+ minutes the referee took to agree with VAR, changed the game.

We finally, finally announced a couple of signings, after the window closed!, why do Fulham leave signings until the last possible moment? I’m assuming its to save money however not having players pre-season surely will cost us league points and therefore places? Which in turn will cost us “prize money” as the higher the finish the more money the team receives.
Both players look to be very exciting additions, Samuel Chukwueze on loan with an option to buy was the first to be announced. If rumours are to be believed, Chukwueze has been a ‘long-term’ target and could become a fans favourite, hopefully his load will be successful and he’ll join permanently at the end of the season.
Kevin, Shakhtar’s player of the season last year, has signed until 2030, with an option for a further year, so having lost one Brazilian, Pereira, we’ve gained another.
I don’t think either will start this weekends game but I do think they’ll both be in the squad and will come on at some stage.

Jonah Kusi-Asare was announced the day after the window closed on a season lone with an option to buy. Interestingly it appears that part of the loan deal is that the fee of 3 million will reduce dependant on how many games he plays?
Kusi-Asare is a young, 18 years old, Swedish striker who looks to be a very promising prospect.

Our record, for the previous 8 games, is OK with 4 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw, a cup game that Leeds won on pens.

As I said I don’t think any of the new signings will start the game, they’ll be on the bench, so my squad would be…

Games for the weekend 30/08…

We get to make the short trip to the noisy neighbours place to take on Chelsea at Stanford Bridge for the early, 12:30 kick off.

Chelsea v Fulham

For me facing Chelsea, home or away, are always the games I first look for when the fixtures are announced.

Two league games into the season and we’re still unbeaten, OK we’ve not won but Brighton away is always going to be difficult and Man Utd always “get lucky” when we play them! VAR and ref’s never appear to give little ol’ Fulham anything do they?
Josh King hasn’t looked out of place it’ll be interesting to see if Marco can accommodate both Josh and ESR in the same team, they could be really good for each other.

Wednesday’s League Cup game was a good run out and was good for Raúl to get his first of the season.

Our record against Chelsea, for the previous 8 games, is reasonably poor with only 2 wins, 5 losses and a draw. Last seasons away win, for me, was one of the highlights from last season.

Games for the weekend 23/08…

For our first home game of the season we welcome Man Utd to the Cottage for a 16:30 kick off on Sunday

Fulham v Man Utd

After last weekends away trip to Brighton, how to make a last minute draw feel like a win, we’re back home at the Cottage to take on a Man Utd team that is now more in the mould of what Ruben Amorim would like it to be? We’ve always, more often than not, given Utd a good game and have been unlucky not to have had much better results, our luck has to change some time?

Last weekend saw Josh King, for only his second league start, show that he’s ready to play an important part this season, he was my MotM, remarkable for an 18 year old!
Overall it was a poor game, I think Brighton looked the “more complete” even though they’ve had far more “comings and goings” to their squad, the home team having slightly more possession and shots 10 with 4 on target compared to 7 and 2.
Brighton took the lead from a penalty, Fulham could have been awarded a couple for fouls on Josh King but neither were given and it fell to substitute Muniz to score with the last kick of the game in the 96th minute.
Last season Fulham set a Premier League record with 17 goals from substitutes, it looks as if we’re aiming to keep it going.

It’ll be interesting to see if we play in white shorts or black?, I can’t see Utd not wearing white shorts so we could “revert” to black?

Our record against Utd, for the previous 8 games, is reasonably poor, we’ve been unlucky, with only 2 wins, one a cup game on pens, and 6 losses. We have always played well and should have had less losses but that’s not what the record books say!

Games for the weekend 16/08

We kick off the season with an away game at the Amex, Saturday afternoon 15:00

Brighton v Fulham

Apart from no new faces, reserve goalie aside, the pre-season appears to have gone reasonably well? only loosing to Sheffield Wednesday behind closed doors, at least that we know about.
Ryan going off against Eintracht Frankfurt was, fingers crossed, only a precautionary measure, with Antonee not getting any game time after his operation, some reports say he’ll not be fit for the start of the season, we might be a little exposed down the left?, having said that, young Amissah gave a good account of himself against a “Champions League” team.
Another lesson learned was that Raúl has to take free kicks, that was a beautiful goal! he’s also been scoring from free kicks for Mexico.

After a very lacklustre transfer window, hopefully only “to date” and we’ll have some exciting new players soon?, we get to travel down to the south coat to take on Brighton at their home ground.

Being the first game of the season its obviously far too early to comment on form, we have had a good pre-season, its just a shame any “new” players won’t have had the time to bed in?

A plus point, in my view, is that we get to see this seasons away kit for the first time. I’ve always liked the 1999/2000 away kit, which provided the inspiration, and as a very welcome bonus displaying an “embroidered”, non of your stuck-on tat!, 1995 badge, my favourite.

Our record against Brighton, over the last 8 meetings, is very good with 4 wins, 1 loss and 3 draws.

Games for the weekend 11/11

We’re off on our travels again, this week we’re off to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa for a 2 o’clock Sunday kick off

Once again we didn’t get what we deserved from the Man Utd game, or perhaps we did? Muniz did reasonably well but we really do need a Premier class striker.
With Muniz going off injured, I really felt for the lad, I’m assuming that he’ll not be available this weekend, I’d start Raul, hopefully spark a bit of Wolves Villa rivalry? I’d also rest Robinson and Pereira.

This is going to be another difficult game, aren’t they all?, as Villa are on a decent run of form, even if they did loose against Forest last game.

Our recent record against Villa is reasonably even with 10 wins, 8 losses and 4 draws.

I’m assuming that Muniz will be unavailable and Diop, Traore, Tosin and Tete will be unavailable, my team would be
