Games for the weekend 28/10

Another away game, this time we travel to the South Coast to face Brighton at the Amex

Brighton v Fulham

Well the game against Spurs didn’t go quite to plan, it was a derby after all, but apart from a couple of mistakes I think the “team” played reasonably well. I feel for Calvin Bassey, he was playing out of position and appears to be as “one footed” as Tom Cairney.
We (Marco) still haven’t worked out how to play with either Raul or Vinicius to our best advantage, neither are Mitro! having said that, apart from the first two games, when Mitro was banned for the eight games last season Vinicius came good.

The best news we’ve had for a while was Marco signing his new contract, hopefully there will be additional funds for the January transfer window and I’m sure having a “stable” situation at the club can only help with recruitment?

Last season’s away win at the Amex was a “smash and grab”, more of the same would be very welcome.

Brighton are having another good season, they’ve not been out of the top 10 so far. They lost their last game away to Man City, drew the previous one, home to Liverpool and suffered a heavy away defeat to Villa, 6-1 at the end of September.
They’ll be looking to getting back to winning ways and will look at us as an “easy” 3 points?

Our recent record against against Brighton is even with 4 wins, 5 losses and 3 draws.

my team would be…

Games for the Week-end 18/02

We get to go to the seaside to take on Brighton at their place this weekend

Brighton v Fulham

Our performance against Forest was one of the best I’ve seen this season, we could have scored two or three more than we did and apart from a 10 minute spell in the second half, I believe we completely controlled the game.
Forest were very unlucky loosing both centre backs early in the game, in truth I don’t think it made a great difference.
Willian’s goal must be up there with some of the greatest goals scored at the Cottage?, Manor Solomon getting his first, in front of the Hammersmith End, was also a very special moment.
Mitro wasn’t at his best however if not for an inspired Keylor Navas, would have scored yet another outstanding effort, I hope that he was subbed for tactical reasons rather than injury.
Tim Ream, once again, proved that age is just a number with some perfectly timed interceptions, he just “reads the game” so well.
It was good for the two new boys to get a run out, I’m guessing that we’ll see far more of them in future games, I can’t wait to see Mitro and Lukic link up on a regular basis.

For the longest time that I can remember, beating Forest on Saturday gave us “the double” over a Premier League team, we have another opportunity for a “double” against this weekends opponents.

Brighton are also having a fantastic season, ahead of us only on goal difference, and will feel a little hard done by only getting a draw against Palace?

How many of us would have thought that this game would have been between 6th and 7th?

Current Form:
Brighton – WWDWD
Fulham – WLLDW

Our recent record against Brighton is quite close with 3 wins, 5 losses and 3 draws, we won the home tie 2-1 last August.

Assuming no further injuries my team would be…

Games for Mid-week 30/08

We welcome Brighton to the Cottage for a game under the lights.

Fulham v Brighton

I think we were unlucky against Arsenal, we deserved to get something out of the game but at least we gave a good account of ourselves.
I wonder how many of the “Mitro can’t do it in the Prem” comments will be rescinded?, the mans still on fire! Tim Ream also needs a shout out, many Fulham fans, me included, love the man but didn’t think he was still “up to” Premier League standard, I’m very glad to admit that I was very, very wrong, more power to Mr Ream, long may he continue.

Brighton are have a great start to the season, 3 wins, away to Man Utd & West Ham, home to Leeds and a home draw to Newcastle, and are currently sitting in 4th place, (that could change with this afternoons results) so they’ll be coming into our game full of confidence.
They’ve lost Maupay to Everton, apparently he was very close to signing for us?, but I’m sure we had a nice chat as our “talks” appear to go on forever, they’ve also lost Yves Bissouma, to Spurs, and Marc Cururella to Chelsea.

Our record against Brighton 2 wins, 5 losses and 3 draws

The team started well against Arsenal so my team would be…

Team against Brighton 01/09

Over on the forum we’ve been discussing which team we’d choose to play against Burnley this weekend, here are a few team selections…

whitejc

Brighton v Fulhamsubs: Fabri, Odoi, Christie, Vietto, Stef Jo, KMac, AK47

We’ve now got an impressive squad with at least two players fighting for each starting place so I think Slav will rotate the team for most games in the early part of the season, once everyone has fully ‘clicked’ we may see less ’tinkering’ especially at the back where partnerships are invaluable, think of Aaron & Brede, “the Thames Barrier” they were far better together than apart!

Its very difficult to argue that anyone who played against Burnley should be dropped however I think for ‘tactical’ reasons that Chambers will get the nod over Odoi even though he had a good game last Sunday.
I also think that Anguissa will start as I don’t think Brighton are as ‘physical’ as Burnley.
For me Ryan gets the start ahead of Vietto, who had a really impressive game but I think our ‘boy wonder’  will show the premiership why he’s so highly regarded.

Brighton v Fulham

Bettinelli now has the shirt to lose and despite one or two wayward long balls he did nothing wrong against Burnley. He did not stand a chance with either goal in my opinion.

I think both full backs need upgrading if we are to really make the most of our style. Both Fosu-Mensah and Bryan are capable defenders and can make up the numbers while we are on the attack. However neither can bring what Fredericks brought last year and take it past the last defender and really make chances from nothing when we are struggling.

I felt Odoi was quite comfortable at the weekend. I actually thought he did as well as he could for the first goal and was rather unlucky. He continued to contribute to building the attack. I think Mawson will replace him long term so hopefully Odoi can avoid any massive clangers until then like at times last season.

Up front Kamara replaces Vietto who for me was largely ineffective against Burnley despite popular opinion and had quite a few loose balls and touches. Burnley’s tired legs after 70 minutes flattered him. Kamara in the meantime got another brace midweek to add to his promotion-winning form last season and remains my hot tip to breakthrough this season.
