Title: Introduce yourselves and explain where are you from, and why Fulham..?
Post by: LBNo11 on February 20, 2010, 07:29:22 PM
...many of us Brits know each other and know why we became or were born Fulham fans, but what about all you guys around the globe!

So:-

1) What country and city/town are you from?

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?

I am the Eggman ... no wait, THEY are the Eggman. I am the Walrus.

I am from San Antonio, Texas [although I was born in El Paso, Texas shortly after the end of dubya dubya eye eye [tha big one]

there's a long essay lost in the bitbucket of the old FofF server that tells this more eloquently, but I came to Fulham because of my respect and admiration for Brian McBride. I stayed because of the family aspect of the club, and because I knew that we'd be struggling every season, and I'm not comfortable supporting teams that expect to win. Like a lot of us, being Fulham is more important than supporting American players, so if we nad no yanks on the roster, I'd still be here.

As Brits can usually deduce from my username, I originally supported Luton Town Football Club as I was married to a Luton girl and went to matches with my father-in-law. LTFC never had much time for their American fans, nor did most of their British fans, so the dozen or so of us who were season ticket holders had little to hold us to the club.

Oh, and I sewed all the sequins on my dance costume myself.

I'm a native born California boy who grew up playing & watching pointy ball. I've lived in 8 different states and at one time had season tickets to the Washington Redskins. While in college, in Maryland, I played some intermural "soccer" & learned the basics of the beautiful game. Other than some interest in the WC, I let it slide until my youngest came to me when he was 8 (he's 32 now) & said he wanted to played soccer. I signed him up for AYSO & in a manner of weeks, both my boys were involved, I was coaching TWO teams and reffing as well. I got the bug big time. Both my boys played into high school and then discovered girls and soccer fell off the radar screen. It didn't for me. I was introduced to English football on a saturday morning show called Soccer Week. The English game just seemed to be about getting after the ball while the Spanish & Italians were about falling down and screaming in pain. When Claudio Reyna went to Citi, I joined their web site but soon found that to them, every loss & every evil came from Reyna and the rest of the Americans. Rather stupid. Anyway, I checked out Manure, mostly because Citi hated them and found them to be arrogant & had a sense of entitlement when it came to winning. They reminded me of Mexico in that the other team was always lucky & the ref had it on for them. When McGod scored a wonderful goal againt Mexico in the 2002 Cup, I had found my hero & followed him to Fulham. As Don said, the friendliness & family atmosphere was refreshing. Early on, one of the members here, befrended me & made me feel welcome. It has grown from that. I don't post all that much but I visit this board most mornings and just about every evening. I'll be here until I'm asked to leave.

I''m an Essex boy (oh, the shame) who emigrated to the Land of Oz in 1965. My late Mum and my still misbehaving Dad are both from Edmonton, Norf London so I grew up supporting the Spuds and watched a handful of games when I spent a few months in the UK in 1982. Scarey times people ! I drifted away from football a bit in the late 80's/early 90's as I was more into motorbikes, excessive alcohol consumption, rock n roll and chasing the femmes. I returned to the UK in late '94, ostensibly for 2 years but ended up staying 7 and the football passion was reignited. A mate who is no longer with us was a mad keen blue poo fan and was in fact secretary (?) of the Oz supporters club and I promised him I'd go to the dog track and watch a game. I also went to why tart lane and soon realised I didn't belong there. Chelski was the closest club when I lived in Pimlico and I think I went to about 10 home games and even enjoyed myself. (My excuse is that The Hod was there and then Gullit arrived. Loved watching him and Zola but it seems I didn't belong there either.) My barmy Swedish flatmates found a flat in Fulham Road when we tired of Pimlico and then it happened...I strolled down to The Cottage in early '97 and realised I'd found my football home. I think I went to a couple more Chelski games but Fulham had stolen my football heart. The Al Fayed revolution happened a couple of months later and the adventure began. I can truly say "I'm Fulham 'til I die" and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Born in Hammersmith but our family always lived in Fulham.  My Father attended his first Fulham game in 1910 and I started to support the club in the 1949/50 season. Now reside in Spain but I have still seen two matches live this season and all others, both home and away, have been watched over the internet.   Have enjoyed the good times as well as the bad ones and have had many magic memories over the years.  Keep the good times rolling and enjoy every moment.

From the great state of Texas as well, the northern part though, Dallas.  Born and raised all 31 years.

February of '08, we had just signed up with a cable provider that had Fox Soccer Channel, and I decided to 'adopt' a PL team.  For some reason I gravitated to Fulham and I'm still not exactly sure what "it" was but the club has been a perfect fit.

After learning about relegation that May, it's been smooth sailing as a Fulham-follower (won't consider myself a supporter until after 5 years or a pilgrimage is made to CC).  Everyone talks about what a great manager Mr. Hodgson is but I like to think that it's my support of the club that has coincided with the great run of form the club has had since that relegation battle. <tounge firmly in cheek on that last sentence :)>

I follow the local club FC Dallas and have made it for a couple of games.  Other than them, there really hasn't been another club that I've followed.

Well, I am a 5th generation Californian and live in the very first foothills of the Sierra's 20 minutes east of Sacramento. Was born in the fantastic but weird city of San Francisco and have spent most of my years living in or near 'Baghdad by the Bay'.

Never played footie growing up, stuck with Basketball, Baseball, and American Football. My first real interest in football came about with the national prominence of the university I attended and then a few years ago I coached my daughter in U6's for two years. My kids have continued to play and my interest in the sport has increased.

Sometime in late October of 2007, I happened by Fox Soccer Channel and starting watching a Prem game. For the first time I actually enjoyed watching a match on TV after many attempts to take in a US, Mexican, Central American, or South American match. The English version of the game is just so much better in it's energy and aggression...I was hooked.

After about two weeks of watching matches and tireless research, it came down to Villa, Everton, Tottenham, and Fulham...in the end I chose Fulham over Everton. Three reasons: smaller side that didn't win all that much (I don't like following winners when I have a choice), Brian McBride, and finally after i read about the history and saw pictures of the Cottage, I knew it had to be Fulham. Craven Cottage is so unique that it's historic nature, lured me in and in the end, it was the deciding factor.  It has this presence about it that I have only felt when attending games at Wrigley Field or Fenway Park.

Now I follow Fulham at the exclusion of every other sport except cylcing including the NBA (Warriors), NFL (Niners) and MLB (Giants).

It's all I really need and look forward to these days...well that an a nice long bike ride.  :)

1) What country and city/town are you from?
Originally from right outside Worcester, MA; now call Baltimore, MD my home. And probably will continue to do so if/when I move elsewhere.

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?
They found me. But I have not ceased to because I honestly think we have some of the most knowledgeable, and friendly, fans here or in England.

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?
Soccer? No. Other sports? Sure -- the local New England/Worcester teams I grew up with.

Born, Scotland (west coast) and proud of it.
Moved to Southfields when I was 11 to a small flat with my mother. (parents separated then) Glasgow had little to offer.
A chap she met at work, Arthur, offered to take me to Fulham. Instantly, I became a Johnny Haynes fan.  He was even better than Jim baxter (haynes, not Arthur).

Fulham to me is not just about football. Several years later, Arthur was to become my stepfather and  until he died a few years ago, one of my best friends. He was a fantastic grandfather to my two children even though moving to USA limited the visits. He was a great father figure to me, central figure of our family.

On my annual visit home, when I walk through bishops park to a game, I recall those early days with him. The excitement of getting in early to get a good spot and he would buy me a programme. (I still have them).

Southfields, coincidence....my son moved to London when he finished university in boston. Got a job in the city and found a flat....in Southfields. The opposite side of the park to where I lived with mum all those years ago. (Off wimbledon park road). The first game I took him to years ago was at west ham, so he followed them (from USA on tv) . However, in his 3 years in London, he has now become a true Fulham supporter, although back in USA now. In fact, yesterday I called him to tell him about BZ winner against the brummies.

Arhtur would have loved  to see Fulham today, after all those disappointing days.

The Great Lakes State of Michigan, born in Detroit currently in the West side of our great state (Big Rapids, 45 mins north of Grand Rapids) attending university.
Why Fulham? My older brother became Fulham after Dempsey got transferred and i followed shortly.
Other teams? I still root for Celtic in the Champions League, and in my young naive days when I took a liking to football you could say I was a wet spam fan, but I have smartened up :)

I guess since I am in the process of making a permanent move to New York, I belong here.

Was born in London, in a part called Islington (Major Arsenal territory). My father was born and bred in SW6 and was Fulham through and through, as was his dad. The rest of the family all Arsenal except one uncle who always was Fulham. As a kid we moved back to SW6 and Fulham (Bloom Park Rd). My dad died when I was young, but not before he took me to Wembley in 1975. My mom then moved back to Islington but my uncle took up where my father left and made sure I stayed Fulham and would take me to the Cottage on a regular basis. As I grew up, joined the Royal Navy, fought in the Falklands, came back barely in one piece but alive, graduated from university, started my own business, did decent I guess, and even opened a US office in New York.

Anyway, have spent more time in New York the last 6 months than anywhere else and have decided to become a yank I guess. The other big reason is my girlfriend is a native New Yorker.

I have been treated extremely well here in New York and by the Americans, and it is very hard not to like what I see. So to all the yanks out there, thank you!! COYW!!!!!

I live in Brisbane Australia but the family originally came from South Wales. My dad actually hailed from Stourbridge near Birmingham and my mum came from Cork in Ireland, so quite a mixture. I came to follow FFC through my late dad as he was a great fan of Mr Haynes. Dad was in the RAF and spent some time at Northolt and used to go to the Cottage when he could. I followed Newport County as a young lad before moving to Woollongong and basically turning to Rugby League. However, always kept an interest in the English leagues and watched the games on SBS back in those days. Now I watch it all on Fox and the coverage is excellent. I had the opportuniy to recently spend 2 years living in Wandsworth and became a season ticket holder at the Cottage. Watched some great games such as beating the Arse, Manure, Spuds, the cup games at Sheff Wed and Swansea and the draw at home to Chelski when Clint scored the equaliser and the Hammy End went crazzzzzzy!!!.....Not forgetting Gera's goal against Manure of course.
I am now back in Oz with great memories of those days watching Fulham and the progress under Sir Roy. It was fantastic to see the result on Thursday and I am hoping they can continue in both the Europa and FA Cups. I am still the very proud owner of an Aaron Hughes No 18 jersey.

We the people of the United States gratefully and happily accept the request of one Fineus Finnster McFinn I(the first) to become an American, welcome and congratulations, and maybe even my appologies.

I was born and raised in Lowell Massachusettes, currently reside north of the border (here that means New Hampshire not Canada). I first found the great sport of soccer in '02 when my inlaws, more specifically my brother in law, kept telling me how Portugal were unbeatable and should win the world cup with their "golden generation", so the best I could hope for the tiny american boys was a lucky second place finish. The rest of that story is history. But I immediately became a Brian McBride fan and to a lesser extent a Donavan and Beasley fan as well, since only Brian was making a real impact "over seas" I followed him to Fulham but as I've said I stay because of the friends I've made since being here. It has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride since joining the Fulham faithful, and I know I've made the right choice. I'm not as visable online these days but I never miss a televised game and listen to Gentleman Jim whenever I can.  Although apparently not this month as seeing Nicky Shorey on our squad was a nice surprise for me today, when did that happen?

Born in Co. Wicklow, Ireland

My cousins are Fulham fans and lived in Lysia St near the ground. They got me into going to the Cottage and I haven't looked back since.

Before (and after) moving to England, I was an Arsenal fan, which was tough as I as playing for Wolves Youths as a lad !!

I'm originally from Rochester, NY, and I've lived in London (Hoxton Sq) & Barcelona and these days I call Brooklyn home.  As a kid I played soccer in one of the ubiquitous youth leagues here in the states, and because I was tall and could really hoof it they stuck me between the posts. I must admit that throughout school my main passion was lacrosse, and I eventually gave that up along with soccer when I had the chance to play junior olympic volleyball year-round.

The short answer to why I support Fulham, along with a number of other dubious choices I've made in my life: "because of a girl."

I started watching European football in college - would come home from class in the afternoon and would find UEFA matches on one of the cable sports channels. I remember being enthralled by the fluidity, the passion, and even John Motson. I was intrigued by the notion that teams like Dynamo Kiev, Galatasaray, Benfica and Ajax came from far away places to compete for trophies and glory, but at the time I didn't really understand the pecking order of continental football or owe any allegiance to a club.

As I was finishing up my degrees in '99-00, I started work at an investment firm. There was a particularly fetching English woman who worked there, 3-4 years older than I, equipped with deep chestnut eyes and sublime accent which did nothing but encourage the flirtatious tension between us. And she was from Fulham.

"Fulham?" I asked. "Never heard of them, but I really enjoy watching European matches on tv."

"We're not very good" she replied, "certainly not good enough to be on the tele. But it's in my blood and recently we've done better..."

I'm not sure if it was the chance to cheer on a not-so-good team (besides the Red Sox, I support the Buffalo teams here in the US and they're pretty awful), if I got caught up in the promotion to the top flight that spring, or if it was simply her smile that did me in. But I had certainly found a European club to call my own.

She moved on to another company before the 00/01 season started and before I was aware how much the team would grow on me, so we never really had a chance to become Fulham mates.. or any type of mate for that matter. I do know how to reach her these days, and will admit to having thoughts of ringing her up and telling her about my trips to the Cottage and to Rome and babbling Fulham nonsense in her ear and letting her know I still follow the team simply because she mentioned it to me one day so many years ago. But as soon as I do I'm confronted with thoughts of a creepy/awkward conversation during which I would have to expose the lasting impression she made on me as a younger man, and I instead resign myself to enjoying all of my wonderful Fulham memories - just the way they are.

Dude, call her up and invite her to watch a match with you. If nothing else she'll be good company and worse case, you'll find as all us old gits have done, that you can't go home again. I'd love to be wrong. Good luck.

Mr Cheviot,

May I suggest something? Life is short, you never know if you will wake up tomorrow. I have learnt the hard way not to take anything for granted on that front. This lady has been on your mind for a long time mate.

Grow some balls and go for it lad. Sort it out and take her to the Cottage. She is a Fulham girl. It would be very Fulhamish for her to say yes. Prime target could even be our second visit ever to Wembley if we can get past the Yids.

As my old uncle always used to say "unless you ask, the answer will always be no"

Hah.. thanks for the encouragement!! I guess I forgot to include that a) she's married, b) by now she's closer to 40 than 30 and c) I'm quite firmly and happily in a long-term relationship (plans to start ring hunting in a few months). Otherwise I agree with 100% of what you're saying. I'm not a shy guy, & I've historically had no issues endearing myself to the fairer sex.

It's more along the lines of... "Hey, remember me? (A decade ago you'd lean over while we chatted so as to entice me a bit and let me catch a whiff of your perfume.. and boy did I enjoy it!!) Well, I've become a die-hard Fulham supporter because you happened to be from there, and I wanted to see if you were up for talking for bit on how wonderful Roy is and how the lads are doing?"

I guess I could make it less creepy/fawning, and otherwise have no real reason for not dropping her a line. If I were to abscond off to the cottage w/ a woman though, it'd have to be the one I already have.

Raised in London I was a regular at the Cottage when Johhny Haynes was running around with Mo Cooke and Josh Chamberlain. I got to as many away games as I could afford (which was not too many in those days) including a gut wrenching cup semi final loss to Burnley at Villa Pk. In 1969 I migrated to Australia but have never lost my love for The Whites. I try and ensure any trips back to the old country are timed to enable me to catch a couple of Fulham games. I am up in the middle of the night to view every Fulham game. Most are televised live here, but for the few that are not I always find a live stream somewhere. I will not be denied my Fulham fix!!! wish I had found this earlier!

Well you could say im either new to Fulham, or maybe ive followed them all my conscious life?

As a youngster, spent the ages of 6 to 10 playing football, or soccer. At that age, all you see on the tele in Australia is man u, and as a striker at the time, how could you not love Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole teaming up together? At about age 10, I started playing Rugby League and Rugby and really made a go of it, playing overseas and against the likes of the Ulster Youth Squad, playing first grade in the local Newcastle league etc etc.

While from age 10 to 14 I didnt really follow soccer, I jumped back into it in 2005 and was drawn to Fulham from the only name that was prominent, Andy Cole. I watched when I could and followed fairly passively.

In 2007/08, Fulham changed my life, to be completely honest. I went to London to play rugby in Jan 2007, I didnt get to any games as we werent allowed to leave the hotel without the whole team etc, but I did make a walk past the cottage, and it felt like home. Id had a really depressing Knee injury on that trip that all but ended my rugby career before it started, I was going home to Newcastle to play in the Newcastle Knights under 20s side, one step from the best Rugby League competition in the world. I had racked up some depression and insomnia amongst other issues, and what did I find on the tele every week, a comfort in fox sports viewers choice. I picked up intensely following fulham during our great escape, right when Hodgson got to the club. The games at Man City and Pompey still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Id found something that was a bit of happiness amongst a pretty dark time in my life. I then moved to Brisbane in 2009 to try to get into some unis and get out of the small town where i felt there wasnt much of a future, however the breakdown of a relationship with the girl id been with since i was 15, so 4 years, left me alone in a sharehouse of international students who didnt speak english in a full time job that was paying me junior wages, 75% of minimum wage, without the energy or opportunity to get out and make friends, so Fulham once again became the refuge, watching us rise to 7th that year was amazing.

Ive since come home to Newcastle to be with my mother who got sick, and look after the house a bit as dad has to work a lot more, Fulham has become a bonding session for me and my mum, we sit up together and watch every game as she is always up late with chemo going on. Having so many games this year has given me a great opportunity to have great times with mum, but I must admit when she does get tired and go to bed, I can fully let out the hushed fist pumps at every goal and save.

So im Fulham because, no matter what was happening in my life, Fulham was a constant. Id instantly fell in love with the culture that the club emits, and once they had reeled me in, there was no way I would be leaving.

Ill be over in January 2011, not long now, and staying for two months. Finally realising a dream.

coyw!!

Glad to hear mum is on the recovery road, tell her we'll keep her in our prayers/positive thoughts... she's part of the family now. So you haven't mentioned how is your Rugby career going these days? did the knee do it in or what? you still giving it a go?

playing in the Newcastle Rugby League, second/first team for Western Suburbs, the rich club, haha.

basically we are the feeder league for the National Rugby League side the Newcastle Knights, so say there is an injury crisis at the club this year, and im an outside back so say i score a few lucky tries here and there, i might get my shot in the National Youth Comp, which is the Knights under 20s side.

From there, i have to get my foot in the door and start playing well, but its unlikely at this age for them to take someone on unless I have an absolute blinder this year.

Could get lucky, first game is next weekend, havent played for 18 months so we will see how it goes!

You're not a teenager anymore you old bastard ! Seriously though, great post Michael and I admire your honesty and
your persistence after doing your knee. I lost my Mum to the big C when I was in my 20's so great to hear your Ma is on the improve - but don't ever take her for granted mate. Enjoy the Cottage for both of you, there's really nowhere else like it anywhere, and some of the basket cases that post on here aren't too bad either.

Hey everyone,

I'm Augustino from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Being from Canada i've had very little exposure to european football as a child. After the World Cup in Korea i became obsessed with soccer (esp. Italian and Hungarian - my nationalities).

My favourite player was Zoltan Gera who had made a name from himself as far back as his days at Ferencvaros in Hungary. I supported west brom because of him, but paid very little attention to english football.

When west brom was being promoted i decided i would pay more attention, but Gera was picked up by Fulham. I had no idea who fulham were, nor did i know much about english football (then).

Fast forward to today: I've watched nearly every Fulham match in the past two seasons, i own the 09/10 jersey, a scarf, etc. I'm a huge fan of the club and english football.

Its a great time to be a Fulham supporter, and I couldn't be happier to be supporting a club that shows nothing but discipline, class, and respect. from ownership to management to the players on the field I love the club.

Don't pick on me for only being a fan for a couple years ! hahaha
I know it isn't the ideal reason to support a club, but give me a break i'm from Canada and all we've got is the MLS.... sigh.

Cheers
Augustino

1) What country and city/town are you from?

Born and Raised in Auckland New Zealand and still living here

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?

I came to London in 99 for a 2 year working holiday, and lived an Hammersmith for majority of the time. My friend worked at The Royal George on Charing Cross and i spent alot of time there and met a lovely young girl who was working there at the time who happened to be a Fulham Fan, me never heard of them and wasnt really keen on supporting a 1st division team at the time, but my ex girlfriend persisted and told me about the history, the Al-Fayed movement and how the club was on the up and up. Went to a few games 10 quid was the price back then :) and just loved it and been loyal ever since, especially the 00-01 season was great

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?

When i first arrived i was living in Kennington Walworth rd end, and got roped into watching Arsenal games  (the shame of it)  but no love was there, and that girl i met broaden my horizons and changed everything

i support 2 rugby teams The Auckland Blues and All Blacks and 1 Rugby League Team South Sydney Rabbitohs (Russell Crowe owns that team)

So:-

1) What country and city/town are you from?

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?

1. I'm from from the US. Originally from Marion, Ohio, I now live in East Stroudsburg, PA while completing a 2nd master's degree.

2. I needed a Premier League team and picked the one with Dempsey and other Americans. I think the Spurs game in 07/08 brought me in with Kamara's overhead kick.

3. I supported Inter, and sort of still do. Also the Columbus Crew who I saw clinch their first MLS cup birth in 08.

My name is Bill.

Edit: I'm moving to Davidson, NC in August.

Greetings.  I'm from Boston (U.S.), not Lincolnshire.  I started following Fulham a while ago, can't exactly put my finger on when but some time around when they had to use Loftus Road.  It wasn't exactly a conscientious decision, but more of an osmosis.  I guess when I realized that emotions were generated both good and bad by the goings on of the club is when I morphed into a Fulham follower.

The struggle to avoid relegation when Roy came aboard 3 years ago was one of the more thrilling scenarios I've ever been a part of as a fan.  To have an emotional stake in that was tremendous.  I probably would not feel that way if they had been relegated, but I don't have to worry about that now.  :021:

I also closely follow the Bundesliga so I'll keep my eye out for any activity here for fans of a similar bent (not Darren).

In closing, it's great to be here and hopefully Roy has a strong distaste for scousers.

Morning  :58:

I have just found this message board through the FFC sites board and thought I would start here.

1) What country and city/town are you from?

I am originally from Basingstoke, UK and after living there some 34 years of my life, we decided to emigrate to Vancouver Island Canada.

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?

I started to support Fulham when my 2nd cousin moved from Gillingham to Fulham.  I was watching him/Fulham in 1997 when pregnant with my daughter.  We came to every home game and I was hoping for the Season ticket.......however!...after having my daughter Megan (now 12) my Husband was the one to get the season ticket and I was at home with her - whats that all about!.  Luckily I soon got my head out of my butt and insisted on returning to the cottage where we supported, Coleman through his accident, Paul Bracewell through his management, tigana, Sanchez, Keagan, Coleman, and Hodgson (hope I haven't missed any).  After my Cousin left, I preferred to stay with Fulham as I'd grown to love the team/ground.  I remember the promotion game in, think it was 97/98, like no other - proud as punch.  I also remember the relegation battle, my kids making signs saying "come on fulham you can do it" and Danny Murphy pointing at my Daughter and clapping - made her day!

I loved the end of season dinner when Boa Morte was playing for us where I set my table alight ahhhh just when you want to act posh and all! hahahha  Meeting Maurice Cook, Jimmy Hill and Chris Coleman.  Players were there too and had pictures taken etc.  Although I did want to kick one player for being so arrogant (Andy Cole).   I have many many fabulous experiences at the cottage and we miss it terribly.

We feel like the best season for Fulham was when we left (trying to tell us something ).  We watched closely on the net/tv (it was all Liverpool over here though boooo) and I updated my husband at work with the scores - it was a great ride watching the final and we deserved to win it...but we wished we'd have been in the UK to experience it "proper". Upon a recent visit back to the UK in May, I tried to organise a trip inside the ground but as it was shut (off season) it wasn't to be.  So we stocked up in the club shop instead:).  I have named my house here in Cowichan Bay, Craven Cottage and we have the Metal street sign to endorse it hahah.  All our canadian friends ask about it and we'll duly fill them in :)

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?

My husband was a Man Poo supporter but I hated them....I did have a spell of following Teddy Sheringham/TH in the early 90's...but it was short lived hahah (THANKFULLY).

COME ON YOU WHITES !   :clap_hands:

GoldCoastWhite / YankeeJim / LBNo11

Thank you for the welcome  :038:, I really appreciate it.

Yep I loves my Fulham!.....I'll have to take a picture of my house (with my sign hahah) and post it as my picture on here, it looks qiute at home!  My son and daughter are staunch Fulham supporters as much as me and my husband.  My son always has something Fulham on hahah, either shirt, socks or shorts and he has the huge Fulham St. George Flag up in his room permanently.

We all loved it when Fulham were doing so well in the Europa, but my son especially.  He went into school with a signed shirt that we arranged for him before we left and showed all his class mates and explained our journey to the final.  When he started to get crap from some of the other boys in the class who support the only teams they know - Chelsea/Arsenal and Man Poo - he quickly retorted......sorry, I don't believe you are in this cup anymore are you?.....I cracked up.

It is hard being so far away and not being able to pop to the spotted horse, the Crabtree for a pint and then have a burger in the park and a plastic Heineken in the ground.   Listen to the Diddy Hamilton announcements or wave at Billy the Badger and Mo hahaha.

The club is so much more than footie - I just love it.  I remember standing in the Hammy end and singing my heart out - when the kids started coming it was seated.

One thing that always makes me laugh is an Aston Villa game where we could only get tickets for the "mixed end" hahah - there was all 4 of us and we were right next to a bunch of AV lads.  They were screaming all the way through the match and we were all over them.  They were pretty loud and my daugther must have only been 9/10.  When we scored my daughter turned around looked at them and screamed HA HA IN YOUR FACE hahah - I must have shrunk in my seat - I quickly grabbed her and told her to zip it but secretly I was thinking (yeah good on ya!) hahah.  The mans face wasn't impressed but he didn't have anything to say either hahah.  We then had to explain about the "manners" of footie (or the ones we have at CC anyway!).

She's still the same now - Megs found out her Canadian teacher was a Liverpool supporter and one day he played the last bit of their last Europa match as some kind of lesson (so he could watch it hahah).  Megs went in on the day of the final all kitted out in her Fulham stuff (just to rub it in) and they both sat at lunch break and watched what they could of the match hahah (great teacher eh!) - she didn't get to see all of it - but he did pop into her other lesson and tell her the result (with a smile no doubt).

My son - he was allowed the day off school as my husband said "if we win Nat, its like the biggest moment in Fulhams history and I want my son to remember it for being able to see it - rather than having been at school that day - I can be a cool dad for one day! hahaha).  Saddo.

Anyway I am waffling but I have so many great memories and I hope to get more in the future.  Next time we plan a trip home it will be during the footie season thats for sure!

I am from Sacramento California.  I became a fan of Fulham, like many American fans, because of Brian McBride and the other American players on the team over the last 10 years or so. As American I found it easier to follow the EPL than most of the other European leagues.  I followed Fulham just to see how the American players were doing and eventually became a fan of the club itself.  I would say I really became a fan durring the " Great Escape".  It is not always easy for me to see many games because I work on Saturday mornings hear in California, when many EPL games are played, I do follow the games on Match tracks or at least read and find highlights after work.   I hope to be able to make a trip to London to see a game myself some time in the next few years.

Welcome slow!  Glad you signed up...don't forget to contribute...the more the merrier!

Born and raised outside the capital, Washington, DC.  Always had an interest in the game, although never really locking onto any one team.  I did always hate ManU for some reason or another.  I was a student at Univ. of Maryland, and now resident of Virginia.

I took to playing in an "old fat guys league" in the evenings, and soon found an online soccer game which I became keenly interested in.  Ultimately, I met a lot of great guys through that, one happened to be a lifelong Fulham supporter, and after many discussions I was interested.  The English game always seemed more interesting to me, so it was easy to jump in.  After seeing them avoid relegation at the end of the '07-'08 season, and then gain 7th place the following year, I was intrigued.  After following the Europa campaign, I was hooked for good!

Regrettably I am not a Terp, more of a twerp, not making any educational progress other than surviving a British Secondary Modern school - my only qualification for the job as a Mod on here is that I look like a 'bouncer' (doorman).

Enjoy the journey...

Funny, I lived in Annapolis (and worked at the TGI Friday's there) during my college years.  Most of my wife's family still live around there.

Where in Southern MD Jim?  I lived in Calvert for most of my life before moving to VA a few years ago (save the time in Annapolis during college).  I graduated from Northern HS there.

BugDaddyAt,

My pop retired from the navy while at Pax River Naval Air Station. We lived in several places in St Mary's County  & I use to sail my O'Day round about Point Lookout & sometimes over to Solomons for crabs. I came back to California in 1979 & have been here ever since.

I apparently never introduced myself properly on this site.
thin
Well here goes:

Born in Flanders (sea side), living in Brussels (defending the capital against those French speaking Caucasians), hoping to move to New York or any other part of the world some day. I work in academia (that is: until my contract ends) preparing a PhD in Political Science and giving a number of classes to undergraduates (both at BA and at MA level).
Became a Fulham because of Airfix ( :airfix: ) his endless talks about the Whites. He got me hooked I guess (even though Fulham is an "acquired taste"). Airfix and myself met through an online football game (same as Bigdaddyat) in which we both have a management role. I head the team that heads some 50 forum admins, after basically building that from scratch. Befriending Airfix wasn't too hard, as he - or "she" as he is known in the game - has an excellent taste in humour (I am funny, he is sometimes funny) and is overall a nice chap. We don't discuss politics, so that helps too.

My Belgian team is Union Saint Gilloise, a former bigshot but now a Division III team. It is in my view the only "Belgian" team left in Brussels, in the sense that people speak French, Dutch and Bruxellois (a patois of Dutch and French) without thinking about language divisions and the separation of the country. You can start a sentence in French, change to Dutch halfway and end with the typically Brussels "menneke".

1) I'm from Argentina and i live in Buenos Aires

2) I used to play rugby when i was a youngster and i had always dreamt about going to some 6 Nations (5 Nations when i played) to the UK so last year when i turned fourty i decided to do it. I arranged everything myself on the internet and flew on February for three matches, in London, Edinburgh and Cardiff. As my two other passions are football and music i had to do something about those too. So i bougth tickets for Eric Clapton at the O2. Football was a little bit more difficult because my weekends there were occupied by rugby. But there was one Europa League game on a Thursday, February 18th to be precise. I had heard of Fulham and i was staying in Wandsworth at a friend's whilst in London, so i bought two tickets for me and my girlfriend (another football fan).
Those of you who had been to Craven Cottage will understand that that nigth was the answer to question number two, and those of you who haven't been to Craven Cottage .... well you will understand after you've been there.
Since then i follow Fulham FC by every means possible from the distance. Fortunetly the Premier League has a lot of coverage here (5 to 6 games every week) so i've manage to see most of the games on TV and some on the internet (really very bad quality).
The trip was a dream come true and that nigth after beating Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 my love story with Fulham began.
We are planning to go on May on another football and music trip (details coming soon!)

3) I used to be a San Lorenzo fan in Argentina

Name's Steve (surprise, surprise). I'm a native of a small town just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who took a quick jaunt across the United States two years ago and now lives in San Diego, California. I'm here on the recommendation of Rich at Craven Cottage Newsround.

I'm 27 and really got into soccer around the age of 18. I always was, and still am, a hockey player, but got into it via a mix of how similar the sports are at their roots, following the 2002 World Cup, and trying to impress an Italian foreign exchange student. Very late-teen male of me to try and impress a woman with knowledge of sports. But that's another story, far sillier.

The closest club, proximity wise, to my hometown is the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The Riverhounds are a semi-professional team that competes in the USL-2, America's 3rd division. Financial instability has made the club change its ownership group a few times in its short history and its ground even more frequently, often playing in high school football stadiums and, briefly, playing on a converted baseball pitch for a minor league baseball team. Watching a soccer game with a large, raised mound in the middle of the field is an... interesting experience.

I'd probably follow the club more if I could, but the season is incredibly short, television/radio/newspaper coverage is minimal-to-none and the drive to the stadium generally takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete. On top of this, the Hounds even had to take an entire season off due to financial difficulties a few years back. While this is typical of most lower-division American teams prior to folding, the Riverhounds came back, changed their colors, announced a partnership with Everton and a few other initiatives. Not bad.

But, it just wasn't feasible to follow them consistently. As for MLS, I've never quite adopted a team. I've adopted the league as a whole and it's allowed me to enjoy all of it, with minimal bias. As a big supporter of the USA National Team, it's easier not to hold grudges against the players composing the team if I don't adopt a club in that instance. The National Team was my first love, so I've prioritized my American experience to tailor to that.

So, Fulham? Well... I tried out following a number of clubs, began following them each a bit just to see if I could get into them at all. Inter Milan. Celtic. Blackburn Rovers (really, breifly), but none quite did it for me. I started following Fulham right before McBride came in... just a nice mixture of the squad's makeup, the personality of the Cottage, Cookie Coleman himself, and the penchant for bringingin  American players (especially ones I held in high, personal regard like Dempsey and Keller) kept me around. In time, more nuance of the club has propped up for me and Fulham is, easily, the club I follow the most. At home and abroad.

One of the fondest sports memories I hold as a sports fan is Fulham's away win at Pompey to stave off relegation during the first Hodgson year. I've experienced championships in Pittsburgh... a couple Super Bowls and a trio of Stanley Cup win in my lifetime... but nothing quite mimicked that header from Danny Murphy. Still feels weird saying it... "Danny Muprhy header." About 9:00 a.m. for me. No Fulham fans around, save myself... I've converted a couple of my friends, but they were off at college about five hours away, so texts had to do. Just standing up, in my bed, while other family members of mine surely had no idea of what excitement could be had at that hour on a Saturday morning before getting out of bed, especially since I struck out at the bar the previous night. Just absolutely stellar feeling.

So yeah, a bit overlong, but there you have it. I'll enjoy getting in on the talk eventually and hopefully learning a thing or two more here that can't quite be found on the tele or on skysports.com

So, just spotted the Exiles/Overseas-Forum :tom: :58:

1) What country and city/town are you from?

Born in Oldenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, raised in Heiligenhafen. It's a small dump at the coast of the Baltic Sea near the island of Fehmarn.
Very good for all sorts of surfing, kiting, sailing et cetera. Apart from that very dull.

But three Fulham fans in relation to a population figure of 10,000 isn't that bad considering the rusticity and isolation of this area. There might be more after our Europa League run and my constant promotion. :dft011:
Basically everyone in my town knows that I'm a Fulham fan because it's so uncommon.

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?

Visited London and SW6 when I was about 9 years old and was immidiately taken with the Borough and the Cottage.
As I love football and there was no German club I supported because I didn't (and still don't) like German football that much I started to watch Fulham's matches and follow the club's progress.

On top of that, I like Fulhams philosophy: Never-say-die, fighting until the end.

Even when winning is illogical, losing is still far from optional.

Fulham showed that whenever I watched them, past and present. Do you remember our match against Chelsea, a few days ago? We fought. Yes, we lost. But we tried. They didn't let their fans down too often. I love that.

I also like that underdog mentality. You know "Big, Rich Chelsea" and "Tiny Fulham".

I simply don't like those - mostly quite ignorant and selfish - "big club"-fans.

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?

No, I didn't.

But most of my friends are fierce Hamburg supporters.
So it was a somewhat cool feeling when we watched the semis together. We attended the match in Hamburg and watched the second leg at home. They laughed at me when Petric scored their goal but where quiet when Davies struck in that beautiful, beautiful goal and where totally devastated when Gera scored the winner.

"Quarter of an hour to play...in by Davies...beyond Hangeland....IT'S IN!! FROM GERA!...HOW ABOUT THAT?....FANTASY FULHAM.........There's a tidal wave on the Thames...Zoltan Gera, Fulham 15 minutes from the final."

I was jumping through the whole room (I still don't know why my couch is still in one piece!)  and they just sat there...

I also attended the final and was mad at those "cheaters" and "divers" (:dead horse:)....but all in all I was proud.
It was one of the best days in my life. :54:

Mr Fulham Fan weirdly enough i think i saw your town on television last night, a comedian called the Pub Landlord (Al Murray) who makes a living mocking the Germans and mostly French visited there. I'm sure it was your town, something about it being the first bathing resort in Germany, had a steam train/tram going through the town. And FP, Wow we have fans in Argentina that's unbelievable, 15 years ago we hardly had any fans anywhere.

Hello all.  I live in Indianapolis, Indiana.  My original club is Dortmund, from travelling to Dortmund on a business trip in 1997.  In recent years as I have gotten to watch world football again, I have became a big supporter of Barcelona.   As they are the only club I follow who is on top most of the time, I do not like any of the top English clubs they might face in the Champions League:  Arsenal, Manu, Liverpool, Chelsea, City....come to think of it, I do not like any of the top English clubs at all!

I gravitated toward Fulham in England because I just like the club.  I like the name Fulham, the Cottagers, everything about them.  I have a friend here in town who is a diehard Hotspur supporter and tried to influence me to like them, but I just find Tottenham dull.  I'd say the only other club in England I enjoy watching is Sunderland.  Everyone else apart from them and Fulham does not interest me.  I gravitated toward Fulham before I knew any Americans were on the squad, by the way.  I don't care whether any club I follow has American players or not.

So, Fulham have become my #1 in England.  As we Americans so often do, I also follow other European clubs:  Olyimpique de Marseille in France, AS Roma in Italy, and the aforementioned Barcelona and Dortmund.

As my screen name suggests, I was born and raised in New York City, and have lived here all my life (although, despite my name, I am no fan of the Yankees).  I played soccer in grammar school. high school, college, and, thereafter, in the old German-American League, an amateur league here in New York.  I was a Junior General, watching the New York Generals with 500 other people in a Yankee Stadium that held over 75,000 people, even before there were the Cosmos.

The death of the NASL and work took me away from the game, except for the World Cup and European Championships, both as a player and a fan, until two things:  Cable television and the growth of my son, who is a bigger soccer fanatic than I was (alas, an Arsenal fan).

I began to follow Fulham, like many Americans, because of Brian McBride, my favorite player long before I even knew of Fulham.  Because my wife is from Denmark, I previously followed soccer there, particularly FCK and the national team.  I still remember celebrating 1992 with my in-laws, and I hope to do so again when FCK knocks Chelsea out of the Champions League.

Wow, I remember the Generals... not well, but I do remember them.  I used to live in Bergen Cty and  have a clearer memory of the Cosmos playing at Hofstra and Randalls Island than I do of the Generals.  In any case, welcome to FoF.

I was going to post this a month ago but ridiculous problems getting registered held me back. I was going to moan about it but life is too short.

My first match at Craven Cottage was in 1962. I believe it was Stanley Mathews' last one in London. I had tried all the grounds in West London since arriving from Scotland in 1961 at the age of nineteen but the moment I walked into the Cottage I knew I was home. The stadium was very similar to my hometown team, Motherwell. That I haven't topped myself in all those years is remarkable; supporting the 'Well and Fulham together for about 50 years is a sign of an unstable and definitely mad character.

I lived in South London and Surrey for most of that time and have two sons and a daughter who all support Fulham. The oldest did some youth coaching for Fulham and is a STH as were the others till they went to university and moved on. I had a season ticket in the Riverside right on the 18 yard line at the Putney end. I have seen the greats from the Maestro onwards and was lucky enough to get to know Bobby Robson. My Scottish girlfriend at the time thought we had a Scottish goalkeeper called MacEdo.

I have been contributing on and off to Fulham forums under a different guise since Paul Thorpe started Tfi.

Like lots of others I have had many personal ups and downs in my life but at least on a Saturday and occasional Tuesday at the Cottage I could forget my problems for a few hours. Four years ago I retired to Gozo but like the madman that I am I kept my season ticket for a year; I just couldn't bring myself to give it up! I get to 2 or 3 games a year now but I see every Fulham match home and away thanks to the genius of Dreambox which is very popular in this football mad country. Most, of course, follow Man U, Liverpool or Arsenal. Thankfully there are few Chelsea here.

I have met three other Fulham fans who live on this rock and I try to convert everyone else. Even the local bar puts our matches on now. Our profile was increased immensely by the Europa run and I managed to get to the Roma game. However I still miss the stroll through Bishop's Park, the drink(s) in The Cottage (great shame it is now closed) and the comfort of being amongst fellow fans. Still, we move on...

Greetings to all the Fulham fans!
I've discovered this forum a few days ago, and I'm very glad that I found it.
First of all, sorry for my bad English, I'm from Romania and I still got much to learn about the language.

1) What country and city/town are you from?
Born in Romania, Ploiesti, and here I live.

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?
I'm 17 years old, and when I was 16, I began playing soccer. And my teammates were always asking me: "Who do you support from other countries?". And I always said: "Nobody". Well, one night I was watching my first Fulham game on TV (Juvestus-Fulham 3-1), and I was like "I heard of Fulham, Premier League team, Juventus will have a hard night at them. After that, I watched the second leg, and fell in love with the club that night. I've searched fulham stuff like videos from the previous seasons (I watched all the highlights from the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons) and I've read everything I could about the players.
Now every day I read all the Fulham news, my favorite player has become Clint Dempsey, alongside with Gera and Murphy, and my first game at the Cottage was Fulham-Everton 0-0. I want now to read the opinions of other Fulham fans, and I hope I can visit again, this season, the beautiful Craven Cottage.

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?
Yes, Rapid Bucharest, I still support them.

I want to ask, are there any Fulham fans from Romania?  :wine:

I now reside in Rochester, NY, on the south shore of beautiful Lake Ontario, but I'm originally from Detroit (which is relevant).

I started following FFC thanks to Brian McBride. Saw him score a wonderful goal on Fox Soccer, then leave the game injured. When a friend and I made a football pilgrimage to London a few years back, we bought tickets online to see Man City (the old Man City). The match itself was brilliant (3-3 draw), breathtaking pace of play vs. MLS and other US. But what capped it for me was The Cottage. Growing up in Detroit, I saw many Tigers baseball games at the old Briggs/Tiger Stadium downtown, and The Cottage had the same look and feel -- a playing ground from another era, seating close to the field, palpable fan emotion when things went well or poorly. Then the incredible Europa League campaign sealed the deal, in spite of the final match result.

I must admit I'm a little partial to Everton, too. So similar to FFC in some ways: "small" club in a city dominated by a "big" club, old ground, ability to add good US players to the squad for positive results. But my primary loyalty is to FFC: COYW!!!

im new to the forum. From Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (USA). I was attracted to fulham from the heavy American influence (as I'm sure most others from the States are very similar). I loosely followed when Clint Dempsey (my favorite player) signed and I heard about how remarkable the Great Escape was. The next season I got the fox soccer channel and finally watched live games. I fell in love with the small club big hearts persona and couldn't get enough of it. I love everything about the club and make sure to watch every game on a stream or on TV. I follow them every way I can and I enjoy watching behind the scenes features or reading about the clubs history. I especially love the Cottage. I am too young to have liked any other team but I will stick with Fulham for a while I hope, even if they become American-less. I hope to get to the Cottage  in the near future, especially before Dempsey leaves but I'll be going to college soon and probably wont be able to afford it. I'll support the club from over here as much as I can and wear all of my apparel whilst the looks of bewilderment I receive because people have no idea what I am wearing. COYW! for life.

Welcome aboard. All the advice I can give you is to jump in at the deep end and immerse yourself in all things Fulham. You'll soon find you had friends in countries you'd have difficulty finding on the map.

We're either a family, a street gang, or a cult -- I haven't made up my mind which -- but you'll go a long way before you find a better bunch.

Welcome in, my friend, to the show that never ends.

1) What country and city/town are you from?

I'm from Gravataí, a little city in the south of Brazil. (near Porto Alegre)

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?

I knew the club down by 2002, in a manager game, but I say that I started to support FFC from the 2005-06 season, when I connect with other fans and saw that it was not the only one to like this crazy team. From that season, I discover an inexplicable passion for the club and today I say with all certainty that I am a fanatic supporter of Fulham.

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?

In Brazil i support the Sport Club Internacional.

Inter is a great Brazilian soccer club and Its stadium is on the bank of a river like craven cottage.

This similarity helped me to choose Fulham my team in england. :62:

Come to Brazil in 2014, you will love my country. :dft010:

Welcome! Your English is fine you just have to love the Mighty Whites.

I've read that when Kasey Keller played at Borussia Mönchengladbach that the fans nicknamed him "The Wall". Is that true?

Yes that`s true. Kasey had 3 great seasons in Germany. He was defenetly one of the fans favorites. Especially his last game at Borussia Park was unforgettable ...After the game he sung through the stadium microphone a famous Borussia chant against there rivals FC Köln...He started with Cologne Cologne and the crowd answers with "die scheisse vom Dom" that means Cologne Cologne the poo.e from the Dom (Special Church in Cologne)... :Sparkyticus:...

1)  I am from Lewis Center, Ohio

2)  I was talking to a friend last April who convinced me I should finally start following English footie.  He is a Man U fan, and I refused to root for Man U, or Arsenal, or Chelsea.  I started to watch Premier League matches for about a month and I noticed I continued to follow Fulham and their matches more than any other team, plus Craven's Cottage had by far the most classic look (at least in my mind) than any of them.  In August I again started to watch and Fulham was playing Blackburn.  Hangeland had given up an OG, but then walked down and buried a header on a set piece right after that.  I remember the announcer saying, "He is walking with a certain menace" as he stalked down and that solidified it for me.  So, while I am a huge Dempsey fan, my favorite player on the team is Hangeland.

3)  Columbus Crew

Wow small world kirkoa, that's like 20 minutes away!

1.) Currently reside in New Albany, Ohio just outside of Columbus

2.) I'm actually relatively new to the sport itself still but have been soaking up all the knowledge I can over the past few years. As with a lot of Americans, I never really gave it a chance until I had the opportunity to intern with the Columbus Crew. At first I thought of it as just a way to finish my degree (sport marketing) but soon I feel in love with the game, becoming as much of a fan as I was an employee. As my internship ended, my love for the game did not.  I continued to follow MLS very closely, watching every match I could and of course attending Crew matches locally. This peaked my curiosity toward the higher levels of football. Despite not having any geographical connections, I still wanted to find a Premier League team to call my own. The quality of play, atmosphere and tradition fascinated me. It's really unlike anything in American sports. As others have said, picking Chelsea and Man U was too easy and felt kind of dirty (like picking the Yankees). I watched tons of EPL matches every Saturday morning and scoured the internet trying to find connections to clubs.

Ultimately, I found Fulham. I can't explain what specifically hooked me but something just felt right about the club. I loved watching the games on TV and Craven Cottage seemed like a place straight out of a movie. I knew Brian McBride (who was a legend in Columbus sports) had quite a career at Fulham as well. I will admit having Clint Dempsey also peaked my interest. I'm not going to pretend to know what it was like before they were an EPL side, but I can respect what it took to get them to where they are today. I like that they aren't the most glamorous club and are often overshadowed by the larger ones. They remind me a lot of the American teams I support. I've been cheering on Fulham for about 3 seasons now and have always been extremely loyal to my teams and Fulham is no different, even if it means early Saturday mornings or crappy internet streams.

I'm actually planning my first trip to England with my wife for this fall. Of course the first stop on my list is Craven Cottage but we haven't booked the tickets yet since I'm anxiously waiting for the 11/12 home schedule to come out first. I'm sure I'll be looking for advice as it gets closer.

3.) As mentioned above, the Columbus Crew.

Other sports:

I'm a HUGE ice hockey fan and support the Columbus Blue Jackets. Also, I'm a big fan of the Cleveland Browns in American football. (probably should have picked Aston Villa because of that)

Brand new football fan here, hence the name.

My name's Jim Schauber, and I hail from Billings, Montana.  For those of you geographically unfamiliar, Montana is a large state on the US/Canadian border, famous for it's mountains, wildlife and natural beauty.

Why Fulham is a tough question, the real question I'd have to answer first is why football?  I've never played the game, though both my kids have.  I've never been to Europe and I've never seen a live professional game at any level.  I, like alot of Americans I would suppose, limited my interest in football to the World Cup as a matter of national pride.  I couldn't have named 3 players at the start of the cup and by the end was cheering for them like they were my own.

What I do watch faithfully is baseball.  Specifically, Baltimore Orioles baseball.  For any MLB fans out there, it's a singularly painful exercise to be a fan of the Orioles, and usually by early in the season I find myself watching them lose half heartedly while flipping through the channels to find something more interesting to watch.  One day I happened across the Fox Soccer Channel and found myself riveted to the TV watching a Premier League match.  I couldn't tell you who the teams were but the level of play was fantastic and there's something about watching 50,000 people cheering in unison that is inspiring.  I decided to learn more about the league and find a team to root for.

I went to the League site and started sifting through the teams.  The only thing I knew from the start is I had no interest in rooting for Man U.  Everything about them smelled like the New York Yankees to me.  Too many fans, too much money, too many titles,...  After digging around without much luck I decided to look for some of the players I had followed in the World Cup.  That led me to Dempsey and Fulham.

Having lurked around this and a few other boards for a while, I'm fully aware that this process won't necessarily resound well with the lifelong Fulham fan, however; it is what it is.  I'm looking forward to learning more about the sport and in the process hopefully not making too big of an a$$ of myself.

Welcome Neophyte. You have made a wise and considered choice. Most of the yanks on here have followed some player over and to be sure, the Brits consider us all neophytes.  :003:  Just remember, it's a pitch not a field, and attack not offense & a match not a game. Once you learn that, perhaps in 25 years they'll consider  you a novice. After all, they did invent the beautiful game. They are a good lot (not bunch) on here and once it is believed that you love the Mighty Whites, you will be treated well. The mods do a great job in keeping the language generally in a form that is acceptable in polite society. Tune into the matches and then join the discussion afterwards. If you need some on line feeds PM me and I'll hook you up.

Neophyte, welcome.  Like your story,  makes me trust you.  One of my best friends in the world, Tim Petersen (and his wife Monica Marquez) are from Billings.  They live is Seattle now. I know its unlikely but maybe you know them.  Just had to ask.

Thank you.  I figured it wouldn't pay to make myself out to be some sort of savant.  One of the ridiculously dumb questions I have would give me away soon enough.

I don't know your friend, though my wife might.  She's lived here her whole life, with the exception of our college years. Billings is a smallish town, 100K.  I probably know someone who knows them. :)

I've been making a concerted effort to watch a couple of matches a week at least.  Watched Genoa and Sampdoria today.  Fantastic finish by Genoa to win in overtime.  Does anyone know of a place where I could learn the basics regarding the differences between the leagues, what the relegation rules are, who to watch, who to hate and why, that sort of thing?  Any help would be appreciated.

Well hey!  That is funny, I am also a Browns fan and you would think Villa would be the natural choice, but they just didn't "click" with me if you will.  It's funny how so many Americans are saying the same thing about Man U and the similarity in following the Yankees, I thought the same thing.  I can also say Go Tribe and Bucks and Blue Jackets.  Cool to find another Fulham fan so close.

I'm in Cleveland and of course I'm a tribe and Browns fan too.  Funny thing about Aston Villa is that Randy Lerner was also a Fulham fan ( I read he followed Fulham, Aston Villa, and Arsenal) when he spent time in England during college.  If Al Fayed hadnt bought Fulham earlier who knows,  Lerner might have.  I think Lerner has put in about the same amount of money to AV as Al Fayed has for Fulham

Very cool! Sounds like we'll all have plenty to talk about in the fall (assuming there's a season). Hadn't heard that about Lerner, that really would have sealed the deal for me liking Fulham. As with kirkoa, Aston Villa just didnt feel right. I really tried to follow them due to the Browns connection but they just never had the same appeal as Fulham.

1) I currently live in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.  I'm originally from Parkersburg, West Virginia. I've also lived in Cleveland and Columbus.

2) My initial interest was due to Brian McBride.  The steady parade of American connections grew my interest in Fulham until one day I realized they were my favorite club.

3) I supported--and still support Columbus Crew. That is, as mentioned above, how I found my way to these parts through Brian McBride. My mother grew up in Germany and indoctrinated me to FC Bayern from an early age, so I'll always pull for them against anyone but Fulham or Columbus. A visit to the West Country also gave me a soft spot for Bristol City as I was treated marvelously by that club when I visited Ashton Gate.

I'm glad to have found this site. I look forward to interacting with Fulham supporters form around the globe and, judging from the Ohio contingent on here, right down the street.

1) I grew up in Seattle - I only skimmed a few of the entries on this thread but I didn't see anyone else from Washington State. I just graduated from college and plan on moving out to Washington DC sometime soon, where I'll only be five hours behind London and won't have to get up at ungodly hours to watch Fulham play live.

2) I started supporting Fulham circa 2006. I was initially drawn to the club since Brian McBride played there, but I didn't really fall in love with the club until a considerable amount of time after that. I despise the New York Yankees for all their money and arrogance, and I didn't want to support a club that embodied the same rich ideals (then, the traditional Big 4). Looking more at Fulham, I discovered the Cottage and everything that it meant to the supporters as a symbol for what the club stood for - tradition, civility and modesty. I figured that this was the club for me, with a few Americans to root for as well. I studied abroad in London during the fall of 2007, that fateful time when Lawrie Sanchez was managing our beloved club into the ground. I went to two games (as much as my slim budget could allow), both draws: 3-3 against Man City (an incredibly entertaining game) and 2-2 against Blackburn (considerably more drab).

3) I did not - a good friend of mine is a big Arsenal fan so I pull for them sometimes when it comes to Champions League stuff and title races. But otherwise I'm Fulham through and through.

Welcome Rabbit. FOF is the best place to stay up on the Mighty Whites. Even though our English cousins relegate us Yanks and other riff raff away from the main board, they treat us well. (They don't know we won the war :033:). You'll find a great number of great people here. The Mods do a good job unless you make comments about the bad boys from south of the border. Course the Scots could say the same thing.

Well, hi there people. First of all I want to thank Dave (twitter - WhiteNoise1879) for helping me to register here, and become part od Fulham family.

I'm from Montenegro; I hope you know where it is. Reasons for supporting Fulham?! The most beautiful stadim ever, long history... Well to be honest I don't know why. It simply happened. It was (as far as I can remember) one of their first seasons in EPL when Joan Tigana was a manager. So it is almost a decade. Also, music had a huge impact. Sex Pistols, Clash, Jam, Damned, Lurkers, Buzzcocks were one of my first bands I really liked. You know... Punk-rock change your life. Nowdays I also like Brit Pop. Almost all stuff I listen is from Britain. Thats one of the reasons, also because I like England. Expat Fulham, all this years I am ,,keeping an eye" on FC Barcelona. But Fulham suits me much more, because of the way I am. Football + music + beer, hey isn't it obvious?!

Sorry for my English... GREETINGS FOR ALL OF YOU!

Fulham all the way!

I was born in leafy snobby Surrey more years ago than I wish to remember. The first players I saw at the cottage were Haynes, Hill Langley etc. (that blows my age secrecy) I was about 13 I think when I first went to see Fulham and was hooked. As I got older and had a family I couldn't afford the cost or time to go regularly but always followed them. I admit that I got back to going when MAF took over and soon became a season ticket holder. One day my daughter asked if she could come with me and happily she caught the bug and became a season ticket holder too. Then in 2003 she moved to Scotland and I followed her up there a year later. We went to many away games up north and had some good trips but many many bad away results but we were not deterred. Then in 2008 my daughter and family emigrated to Brisbane on our recommendation. (we had been over a few times and loved the country and especially the weather).I followed out last year and now also live in Brisbane. Hence my handle ...McAussie.
We go to see Brisbane Roar sometimes but spend most of the game talking about Fulham.
So there we are.A new life but always the same team COYW

Finally getting around to post to the board.  Used to be active over at FulhamUSA.com before the dreaded hack.  Started following Fulham after watching Brian McBride in the '06 World Cup.  Prior I had followed a northern devilish red team as they were a college friends' team and they were one of the few teams you could actually see matches for.  Fell in love with the history/Cottage.  Made my first of hopefully many trips last April to the Cottage.  We had tickets for the Wigan match but alas that pesky Thursday night Wolfsburg match pushed it back to Sunday the day we left.  There was nothing to do but pay up for what would be as we all know a great night.  I was able to get two tickets in the Hammersmith end with the wife in front of me as there weren't two seats side by side.

This magical day started with us heading over to Abbey Road where despite the anger from the two delivery trucks I was able to get the wife's long life photo of her crossing.  Man those guys were mad at me.  Ha!  We then took the Thames boat tour and proceeded to heckle back the Wolfsburg fans insisting Fulham had never experienced the powerhouse that is their club.  We made it down to the Golden Lion.  Surprisingly, it was early enough no "guard" was posted.  We (my wife) quickly be befriended the patrons and proceeded to take in the festivities.  We walked down to the match and of course were ear to ear smile on the tube after the match seeing both 2nd half goals scored right in front of us.

Hoping to be more active on FoF!

Well first off... I hail from Serbia, Belgrade 23 years old. Guess that pretty much covers it
It started off when i first heard of some really really rich arab taking over some low division team (both unknown to me at the time, result of not having internet access). Amazing promotion in only few years, and then kicking everyone's ass in Championship (with over 100 points was it?).
So naturaly i decided to repeat their success on SWOS 96/97 :D being that was my favorite thing in the world at the time... i fell in love with the team about that time and been faithful to them ever since. I am a bit ashamed to admit but currently i follow Fulham with more passion than Red Star which is my hometown team and i've been their fan well, since i the day i learned what football is.
Glad to finaly be here, no idea why i didn't sign up sooner tbh

I was born in Detroit, Michigan and now live in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

I was on study abroad, and while I was in Glasgow, I was fortunate enough to take in the 2005 liverpool ac milan champions league final. The city was abuzz, and the atmosphere was electric. I was hooked. I had been playing fifa on the xbox, and decided I needed a team to support. I learned the transfers european competitions and relegation by playing the game!

I was casually following liverpool and celtic until the end of 2005, so just about 6 months until I watched a weekday game over the thanksgiving holiday, mcbride scored and I had won a bet. Dempsey got transferred a bit later and that was that. I've missed maybe 10 games since then. I've made the pilgramige over multiple times, and have been over to see bolton, sunderland and chelsea away as well as blackburn, aston villa, chelsea, and west ham at home!

Hello. My name is Artjom. I'm from Ukraine. Sorry, but the city can not name. I am from east Ukraine. I once registered on the site, but then deleted the profile. Wrote two posts. I can not explain why the club chose. Liked it. In addition to Fulham a fan of Werder Bremen and my local team.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English :-)

Yes, of course. I'll go with a friend. He is also a fan Fulham. Maybe will more fans from Ukraine or Russia. With me will be someone who roots for MK Dons. He wants to meet with Ray Lewington.
I failed to attend the match in Donetsk with Shahtar.

Welcome! My grandfather left the Odessa district in 1914 and came to America. Guess he got out just before it all blew up. His remaining family were never heard from. They were Germans living along the Volga.

Unfortunately the original was badly hacked and was offline for an extended period whilst Mike briught a new one online. The membership suffered. The problems I found with the old MB was that, of the all the posts, there were fewer and fewer about Fulham and more about anything else, in particular, one section which became the personal rant space of one mod, which was as political as you could ever get.

Sports and Politics and Religion DO NOT MIX, and simply brings out the enormous divides amongst fans of one club.

The latest reincarnation looked good, fewer members, less posts, but more sport - and in particular Fulham - related.

Fred: Don has little to do with the FUSA MB these days, by all accounts, though Cleveland Mo is very involved, if you can contact her instead.

I think it got hacked because it has USA in the name maybe some people don't like that in some part of the world or it could have been some people that support other teams in EPL and live in USA that did that i don't know but this friends of fulham is great site and if fulham usa doesnt get back up we should tell those people to come to this site.

I agree politics and religion have no place on soccer sites but there should be posts about other stuff that is not related to Fulham so when Fulham is not playing we still something to talk about.

Welcome one and all to the best forum for Fulham supporters world-wide.

Now, don't be strangers, just because you may not be based in the UK it doesn't mean you cannot post on the main board. This exiles area is for those subjects that are peculiar to overseas fans. Anything Fulham can go on the main board.

My name is Rob and I live in Cincinnati, OH. Born and raised in St. Louis, MO but have been in the Buckeye state since graduating college. (you won't meet anyone like me, I could not care less about the Cardinals. Huge Blues fan in my youth but moving to Ohio ruined my love of hockey and replaced it with American football).

I became a Fulham fan because I love Dempsey. I have hated Chelsea since I began following the EPL during the 06/07 season, so FFC was a natural fit. Even if Dempsey leaves, I'll still support the team. We'll win a trophy someday and it will be that much sweeter than being a front-runner Man U / Liverpool / Chelsea supporter like my friends.

Never really followed a squad before Fulham and I am proud to say that they are very near and dear to my heart, even thousands of miles away in the Midwest in the States. One of these days, I will make a pilgrimage to the Cottage. Until then, COYW!!!!!

Hi, I was born at an early age & lived in Southfields, SW18. In 1954 when I was 9 my father took me to Chelsea for my 1st match. As I was not very tall I couldn´t see over the wall at the front so only saw the ball when it was in the air. My father told me that the next game that Fulham had we would go there as he said they had railings I could look through. All I can say is thank God for that wall.
I then started to go to every home game with a group of friends. When I started working we went to all the away games. The most expensive Football Special train trip was 19/6d to Newcastle. The players traveled on the same train.
I was a Season Ticket holder in the Stevenage Road Stand. Block G Row A seat 11.
I then moved to Yeovil in 1999 where I worked in the A&E Dept of the hospital. This meant that as I workrd most weekends I was unable to get to see many live games.
I then retired in 2008 & moved to Spain & love the life style. Thankfully not many ex-pats where I live. I play lawn bowls 2 to 3 times a week & this winter will be going for the Spanish National Trials.
That´s about it.

(Posted this to the General forum by accident; moved it here instead.)

Greetings from San Francisco.

I am about as fresh of a fan as it gets: I had been thinking about seriously following the PL for a number of years, and last summer some combination of American sports lockouts and Megan Rapinoe's cross to Abby Wombach convinced me that the time was right.  But what team?

(I used to go to Sheffield for work, and I was drinking beer one time with a coworker there who knew a lot about American football.  He was a Packers fan -- in fact, he was wearing a Brett Favre jersey at the time.  He had picked the team, he said, to antagonize a friend who followed the Minnesota Vikings, and now he was completely hooked.  I remember thinking at the time that if I ever started seriously followed English football, I didn't need any better reason than that to pick a team.)

I had been quietly soliciting opinions for the six months or more, and the answers I had been getting ("pick somebody in the Champion's League") were uninspiring.  I didn't want to be That Guy -- like the guy I met last month who said his favorite teams were "Manchester United, Barcelona, and Spain".  (There are a lot of That Guys following football here.)  Of the "top" teams, the only one that tempted me was Arsenal (honestly, I just like the word), and I flirted with but ultimately rejected Liverpool, on account of my lifelong devotion to the Boston Red Sox.

I looked around in the mid-table.  Fulham seemed unlikely to be immediately relegated (a real fear I had!), they were in London, and they had Dempsey, which was at least a name I knew.  Good enough, right?

That seems like a long time ago.  I spent a disproportionate amount of time last year worrying (in the fall), thinking about Fulham, and getting up way too early to watch games.  My wife bought me a Fulham hat from the shop for Christmas; it's supposedly one-size-fits-all, but my head is too large.  I wear it anyways.  I know a lot more than I used to about how to find dodgy streams of European television stations.  And if I watch a game in public (rare, as most of them air in the early morning in California), I get to be one of the few Fulham fans in what is generally a crowd of That Guys.

I started following Lork on twitter and he told me about this place.  Thanks Lork.

Friends of Fulham is open to all, even residents of California's second city.  :dft012:

This is a great bunch and the mods keep the floor swept. One of them is also a Californian; Ridgerider who is from the Sac area. Me, I'm near enough to LA to be branded as such.

Fulham has  a streak in it that in some ways resemblies the Cub fans. During the great escape of a few years ago the whole board was convinced we were going down and generally were surprised when we did not. That might be changing since in the Europa league we came back from 3 down against Juventus with the goal of the decade from our boy Clint. The fans stood up singing "Stand up if you believe". Watching on the TV it brought tears to my eyes. I'd loved to have been there.

Just remember your place. You are a colonists and as such have no football knowledge. Course it's always good to call it soccer every now and then just to peeve our English brothers. Welcome.

Hi all, i'm Daniele from Torino, Italy; i follow FFC since the promotion in EPL, my first game was against WestHam (lost 0-1, Kanoute......) in Putney End. I came to the cottage many many times during these last years, international member, plus other away matches like Portsmouth (the great escape), Birmingham and Europa League (Basel, Torino obviously and the final at Hamburg).
Everytime i follow a game, my little flag is always with me (you can see it in the picture).
Why Fulham?
I got several friends that support other London teams, so, i have choosen the best one in order to have competition with them!
And so we can have beautiful weekends in London, expecially in pubs  082.gif

Talk about late to the party!  I thought I did this years ago but as they say confession is good for the soul.  Hi, my name is Barry and I am a procrastinator.

1) What country and city/town are you from?

I was born and raised in the Great Lakes Region of the United States, but nowhere near the Great Lakes, in the far southwestern reaches of Indiana just off the Ohio River in Evansville, Indiana. Evansville is famous for, well I live here and I don't even know what Evansville is famous for.  It does boast having the second largest street festival in the United States second only to Mardi Gras which I'm sure pretty much everyone has heard of.  I am also certain that one day straw hats and the West Side Nut Club Festival will be just as famous as beads and Mardi Gras. At least it could be if topless women would start wearing the straw hats instead of ... but I digress.  As an adult I moved all the way to Newburgh, Indiana and if you can find Evansville on an Indiana map it won't take you long to find Newburgh. That is about all you need to know about Newburgh unless of course you are a civil war era buff in which case you should know that Newburgh was the first town North of the Mason-Dixon line to be captured by Confederate forces and it was done without a shot being fired although the town was under threat of cannon fire.

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?

Because Fulham Football Club called to me.  Called to you you say?  Yes that is what I said. If you don't believe me go back and read the first sentence. No, wait don't do that because if you don't trust me you could get caught in an endless loop so just this one time trust me about what I said.  Fulham Football Club called to me. From all the way over here (or there if you don't happen to be sitting in England as you read this)?  Yes FFC called to me from way over there but not at first and here is where I insert the "this is a sappy you should move on story warning" along with the "this story will contain the use of the word soccer" warning.

Didn't move on?  Oh well, don't say you weren't warned.  Let the tale continue.   I came to soccer (hush you were warned) like many American parents through my kids.  The older ones played in recreational leagues and had fun doing so. I was glad to remain blissfully ignorant about the game for the most part with my oldest two.  Somewhere along the line I found some interest and started to help coach my youngest sons team and then coaching some little kids including my youngest daughter.  Keep in mind this spans a long period of time from oldest kids to youngest.  It had been over a decade and I had invested time in learning the rules and liked the game at this point and I had gotten involved in the league.  When my youngest began playing from day one she was that kid. If you have coached youth sports for any length of time at all you know the one I am talking about.  Anyway, we got to the end of one of the seasons a couple of years down the road and she was bouncing about this "free skills camp" one of the parents mentioned their kid was going to. The next thing I know my seven year old daughter was on a field scrimmaging with nine year old girls who had been training for half a year and not looking one bit out of place and then I have a coach telling me that if she has the patience for it I should spend some time watching professional matches with her for as long as she is willing to sit still for it.

So now if I am going to do this I have to pick a team for us to watch because the game has pulled me far enough in that I really need a rooting interest. As I am sorting through professional leagues trying to pick a league to follow I find out I can get access to both the MLS and English Premier League  (don't mock me that is what all the press here calls it and I didn't know better until Finn summarily corrected me god rest his soul) on a regular basis.  I picked a team from each league to follow, however, since we are discussing Fulham I will ignore the MLS team selection.  My first inclination was to pick my favorite USMNT player in the Prem and follow their team.  Had I followed my first instinct, I would have selected Everton as my team since I was, and still am, a huge fan of Timmmmmy! I pushed that first instinct aside deciding that with player movement being so high I needed a better set of criteria for picking a team.  The process went something like this:

1. If I ever get to travel to England what is the city I want to spend the most time in?  Easy answer was London and the London clubs that year were Arsenal, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham.
2. Which clubs, if any, do you find a reason not to like? I could never pull for a team commonly called the Cheats so West Ham was gone leaving Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham.
3. I had to drop one more and I always liked an underdog so Fulham was still in and if I am going with a front runner it will be Arsenal for the style of play so good-bye Tottenham.
4. From there I went to the forums and found Fulhamusa.com and that just felt like home. The moment I logged on the board and began reading about the club history and family atmosphere I knew I found my club. AmericanMike, ChicagoTom and the FUSA posters managed to create a little piece of Fulham for me and that was all I needed to finish setting the hook.  I have not regretted it for a single day.  Ironically, the first Fulham match I watched courtesy of Fox Soccer Channel, I think, was the 2007-2008 season opening 2-1 away loss to Arsenal.  Maybe one day I'll get there to see a live match.

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?

No, but I did adopt the Columbus Crew simultaneously.

Nightwind15 here!  Born in Wilmington, North Carolina of the US of A.  Started playing football in 1968 with a bunch of Vietnamese in a place I did not want to be.  I played in the first match I ever saw.  They made me the keeper because I was tall and had played wide out in college.  I came to be attracted to Fulham due to Brian McBride coming on board and for the fact Fulham was an under dog in the league.  You know how we Americans clamor for the weak sisters of this world.  Anyway, loved the team the anxiety of staying up in the early years and now just simply stuck on Fulham and know everything printed about every player.  I watch the matches televised and the replays.  Go You Whites.

Greetings from the American Southwest!  Grew up in the Midwest near Lake Michigan, been baking in the desert for the last few years.  Began following EPL after the 2010 World Cup, enjoyed that so much I wasn't ready to stop, and unfortunately the domestic product here in the states isn't quite up to snuff (though improving, certainly).  Found Fulham mainly due to the past US International connections, like McBride and Dempsey, and just fell in love with the club and its supporters.  So much so that I am now planning a visit across the pond so that I can visit the Cottage and catch a match.  Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi All,

Relatively new fan (still learning who all the players are)

1) What country and city/town are you from?

I'm from Melbourne, Australia.  oztralian I live out in foothills of the Dandenong Ranges in a town called Tecoma.

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?

I had my first trip to the UK in March this year and decided to take my 10-year old son to a match.  We looked up the fixture for a match that suited and happened across the Fulham v Wolverhampton game.  When I called from Australia to book tickets the staff were fantastic.

Fast forward to the day of the game.  My son and I took the Tube to Putney Bridge and then the walk through Bishop's Park to the cottage.  We had a fantastic time; the scoreline helped but it was much more than that.  We felt welcomed and included; this is a great club.

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?
Time to own up; I originally had a minor interest in Tottenham, purely because I was given one of their shirts when I was a young lad.  Nothing more than looking at the news occasionally to see if they had won or lost.

...Hi Grimfang I hope you enjoy FoF, there are a few on here from Oz and of the Kiwi persuasion. Don't worry about the names of the new players, in this day and age you just get used to their names and they are off somewhere else in a blink of an eye.

Enjoy the ride, and get out and post more - we don't bite...

1)  I was born at the Elephant and Castle, but lived in Vauxhall ( untill 15 years old ), then Brixton ( for 6 glorious reggae infused years ),followed by Chiswick for 4 years until work took me overseas to firstly Milan for 3 years, 2 years in Qatar , then even further afield to Australia for 5 years and finally here in New Zealand.

2)  First went to Fulham game in 1957 with a couple of school friends...........and have been WHITE through and through ever since. Still go to the cottage every time that I am back in England ( I will be there again in May for the Reading and Liverpool games )

3)  Never want to and have never ever supported any other team.

Hi, I am Stefano and I am a Fulhamholic.
I am from Rome (Italy), but I do have a slight obsession for London and the Uk in general, be it football or music or whatever else. I came to live among you lucky people a couple of years ago, but unfortunately I am now back in Berlusconiland. My first time at Fulham was a 2-1 victory v Everton in the famous 2010 season and after that I never looked back. I had been to Spurs for my very first taste of english football, but nothing compared to the Cottage, the Golden Lion, Tasty's, the dump that was Bishops Park back then etc. It's fair to say It was love at first sight with the whole area even before a ball was kicked.
Since then I followed the whites home and away whenever I could afford it and this season I flew over for three games, Manure away and for the two back to back home games of Wet Spam and Manure again.
I didn't support any english team before. As a kid I was a Sampdoria fan, quite weird considering I am from Rome and I still look out for their results but I don't consider myself a Samp supporter anymore...I am 100% Fulham these days, but I do have a soft spot for Barnet (it was close to my home in London and I was their manager for years with Football Manager ;) ) and Celtic though.

Hello All,

I'm Nate...from Brisbane, Australia. I'm an Australian originally but only just came back to Brisbane a couple of years ago after living in SW6 for a spell (Munster Rd, The name is a giveaway).

Why Fulham?...Well out of pity initially. I went to my first EPL game on a cold Wednesday night with a friend i'd known from Brisbane at Craven Cottage. I think we played Hull?...I sat in the away end because that was the only place I could get tickets. I sat next to some fat guy from Hull and he told me to shut up about Mark Schwarzer....he was creating alot of heat though so I tried to cuddle him a bit. He didn't appreciate it. Hull scored right at the death after Richard Garcia had come on (another Aussie) and I was filled with sorrow. My friend and I decided that night that we would follow Fulham FC. We started going to more and more games after I became a member and eventually I was going to every game. The short walk from my flat was golden and I started getting my girlfriend (now fiance) to go to games. We loved it...

After a few years my girlfriend's visa ran out so we had to move home. I try to stay up and watch the games with my buddy who was at the game with me that first night (he's moved back too). But I mostly just want other people to talk to about all things Fulham. Most people I know support bigger teams and it's nice to talk to people with perspective.

Anyways, nice to meet you all. I'll be lurking around.

I found out yesterday that one of the people in my team has been taken by her husband to the Cottage ('dragged' was the actual word she used for the first time, but now goes willingly). I immediately altered my opinion of her. Funny that, eh?

I figured this would be a good spot for my first post, but I am from Rhode Island, USA and a big fan of the New England Revolution. When Clint Dempsey moved to Fulham I started casually following Fulham but by the end it became a full blown obsession and once Deuce left for Spurs it was far too late to change allegiances. So I am stuck with Fulham, for good or for bad, the rest of my life! Come on you whites!!!

What country and city/town are you from?
I was born in Battersea, London at the height of the Blitz. Because Herr Hitler and his Luftwaffe were making life uncomfortable, we moved to Wales where I spent the first six years of my life.
When we returned to London, what had been our house was now a pile of rubble, but we found rooms between East Hill and York Road in Wandsworth. Although we lived in abject poverty, I wouldn't swap my childhood for anything.
These days I live in a remote bush town in Victoria, Australia, some four hours from Melbourne. I originally came to Australia in 1976 on a four year's contract, but one thing led to another and we stayed,

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?
In 1951 my uncle persuaded my father to take me to see Fulham. I was ten years old. My family were all Chelsea supporters but they wanted to see Tom Finney who was playing against Fulham for Preston North End. I was hooked. I had to do a paper round and help deliver bread for a bakery to earn enough money to go to games, but by the time I was eleven I was attending more games than not

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?
No never – and if anything ever happened to Fulham I would never support any other team :down_under:

I am living in Sydney now after a 15yr spell in Hammersmith. I am from Cork Ireland.

My first job in London was on North End Road Market in Fulham between '96 and '99. Having arrived in the borough I had no initial allegiances and so went to see all 3 teams. The impersonal arrogant feel to "The C Club" alienated me immediately and the Shepherds Bush experience was also poor. I fell in love with Fulham and it has long since grown into a healthy obsession. I follow the club closely on a daily basis and being down under seems to have made it more intense. I try to get back twice a year if possible and I make sure there is a home game on before I choose my flight dates.  Fulham is a wonderful community and we have a great heritage. My most memorable experiences were the Portsmouth away game in the Great Escape and the bus from Craven Cottage to Hamburg for the final. If any fulham fan is around Sydney or Australia, I would be delighted to meet up and talk about our dear club.

And no - there has never been any other team that got me excited except for that brief spell when Ireland punched higher.... from about 1988-1994

Hello All I have just joined this Forum as a result of the FB Group - my name is Scott & I live in Adelaide, Australia.

In April 1998, my wife & I moved to London to live, as I had just completed my Uni Degree as a Mature Age Student.

3 Days after arriving (Easter Sunday) I was standing outside Earls Court Tube Station @ around 7:30am & 'bumped into' 2 x Blokes wearing B&W Scarves - they had been to a 'lock in' @ The Pharaoh & Firkin Pub in Putney Bridge & were on their way home.
I mention their names because many on here may know them: Ferret & Orm

Initially, I assumed they were Newcastle Fans (as the Gordies has played The Arse @ Highbury, the day before).
When they told me they were FFC Fans, I said: "Who? You mean the team Terry from 'Minder' supports?"

I asked how I could get to a match & they said "We" play @ home tomorrow, if you meet us at the Pub, you can come with us.
So I turned up Easter Monday for a home match v Carlisle: Stood with them @ the Hammy End & 5 - nil to The Fulham!
I was 'sold' & would now be Fulham 4 Life.

The season ended with FFC making the Play Offs but going out in the 1st Round.
I then attended a 'Fans Trip' to the Isle of White in the Off Season & returned for 'The Keegan Era' - What fun was had on that Cup Run; away trips to The Dell, Villa Park & Old Trafford ... not to mention Liverpool in the League Cup (staying in a Hostel at the back of Anfield) & scoring 100+ points for the Season & winning the League.

We then got pregnant with my son Oscar (that's him in front row, 2nd from the right in my Profile Pic - FFC pre season in Melbourne with 'Woy', he walked out with Bobby Z) & we had to return to Oz  :012: because we couldn't afford to live in London on a single wage.

I returned (on my own) briefly in Jan '03 to see us play in the Top Flight (staying with Ferret - who is Oscar's God Father BTW) & fortunately saw Louis Saha play v Everton @ Loftus Rd (one of his last matches for FFC thanks to 'Purple Head' putting untold Media pressure on him via The Sun). He, Simon Morgan & Chris Colemann are my favorite all time players for FFC (I never saw Haynes, obviously or Robson or Best).

I was so fortunate to meet the NEC Njimegen Fans (in particular Frans & Twan) after that match too in The Golden Lion Pub - which gave me another Club to follow in another European League - Ferret & I went over to Njimegen for a 'tour' of their ground, a couple of days later.

Oscar & I watch most matches on Foxtel here in Oz & I will be taking him to The Cottage (& NEC) ASAP - when I can scrounge the finances together! He is also under strict instructions upon my death: Buy 2 x Business Class Tickets to London - via Melbourne.

He is to scatter 1/2 of 'me' on the MCG (we are huge Cricket Fans & go The Ashes Boxing Day Test every tour - Ferret too has been out here for 2 of them, including when you last won  :031:   :046: ... Oscar & I were there this time too (err, 5 - nil)) & the other 1/2 of my remains are to be scattered @ the Hammersmith End of Craven Cottage!

There are only 4 things that matter in my life: My Football Club, My 2 Children & My Wife - in THAT order  049:gif
#Fulham4Life #There is only ONE Simon Morgan  :Haynes The Maestro:

I am football fan myself, having learned it in my late 20's in Spain, when I was globe trotting. I've followed it ever since, being a fan of the Spanish, French, English, German, Dutch (back when they played like gentlemen) and the Americans. I've been partial to Arsenal, having been a Bergkamp fan for a long time. Ridge rider told me to get on the blog and let you Englishman know that we're not all as provincial in our sports appetite as you might have suspected. Onward Fulham!

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club? My grandad and mother were born in Fulham and grew up here with stories of Fulham. Believe me it was hard in the early to mid 90's to get any Fulham news here in Australia.

3) Did you support another team before Fulham? Most Aussies followed Craig Johnston for Liverpool, so had kept an eye on them until Fulham made the Premier League.

3) I'm not only new to FCC, but to the EPL and football in general.  Soccer, *cough, isn't one of the "big 4" sports in the US but that's slowly and gradually changing.

Hi,
I am a Fulham FC supporter from Helsinki, Finland. Maybe the biggest reason from me to choose this team was Antti Niemi when he played for Cottagers, the year was 2007 or 2008. For me Fulham FC is the only team to support in England. I'm also a supporter of HJK Helsinki because it's my local club.

Currently I miss seasons with former Finnish international coach Roy Hodgson, those days we had defence who knew what to do. Last seasons have been a bit messy but I believe Fulham will rise again.

I registered for this forum because I want to discuss with other Fulham fans and also I want to improve my English skills as well.

Cheers!  082.gif

Ahoy,
I'm a Whites fan living in Durango, Colorado. I grew up in Colorado Springs, where I was raised in an athletic family and I fell in love with soccer during my playing days as a Goalkeeper. I knew of Brian Mcbride and knew of Fulham for a long time and loosely followed them until 2009. Fulham became an obsession in 2009 as I needed something to quench my thirst for the upcoming World Cup. Fulhamerica were playing in the Europa League so naturally I began to follow them. I watched them burn through the Europa League and I've been in love ever since. I also closely follow the Colorado Rapids and have attended many games.

Welcome FatguySkinnyJeans.  I figure I should help Jim in welcoming you to what is an awesome family and a love that is currently in a bit of turmoil.  Hopefully we'll get things going in the right direction next weekend.

I was born in Hammersmith but grew up in Essex surrounded by West Ham fans, including at school, went to a few games there but didn't settle with te atmosphere.  My uncle was a Fulham fan and he used to take my older brother along to the cottage, then when I was about 12 or 13 (1961/2) I was allowed to tag along, we used to stand in the Hammersmith end about 1/2 way up behind the goal.  Loved the friendly atmosphere from the start.
I moved to Auckland, NZ in 1971 and have lived here since, had the odd trip back but for various reasons have not made it to the Cottage, somewhat regretful of that, always followed the results and any news as much as possible.  Even sat up with a Dutch friend in '75 to watch the FA Cup final.
For most of the Prem years I used to watch as many games as possible on Sky, then last year signed up to Premierleaguepass.com for streaming on web.  This year I am reduced to scanning for streaming sites or the replays on the Club site.
I come on to the FoF site most days for a read and occasional post.  I am a little sick and tired of the number of negative posts, I don't have a high regard for the current manager and wish him gone as soon as possible, but I am not about to cut the cord to FFC yet.  I honestly think we will see a change in the next couple of weeks.
I will continue to visit and read and post on occasions no matter what happens.

Hi, I guess I am a Fulham Exile (proud to be...), so here I go:

A little introduction if I may (I guess that's the idea here). I am Martin, I live in Vienna, Austria. I am probably more of a football fan than have any affiliation to a particular club. Possibly I would be a better journalist or referee than fan. But Fulham F always had a special place in my heart! Very sympathetic club! I was in Hamburg in 2010 and by chance got a ticket for the Atletico Madrid final. Great game. I was within visibility of Hugh Grant....  077.gif

I consider myself a guest here. I like you website, makes a very good impression. I feel well here. I think a good website is like a business card of a club. If people are being made feel welcome, they automatically like the club!

Another reason why I am here: I will be in London end of October and would only be too happy to watch Fulham FC at Craven Cottage (v Reading on 24 October?).  Thanks for reading my intro. In case of any questions feel free to ask.  Good luck to you all!

Welcome Vienna1. You'll find that other than a few whiners and complainers, we have a great bunch and most of the negative ones are good at heart. The club is signing new players and I'm getting excited about our promotion push this coming season.  If you hang around a bit you'll fall in love with the Mighty Whites!  082.gif

Hi everyone posted an introduction way back in 2010 on the have we ever introduced ourselves thread, but as I've done more lurking than posting over the last 5 years, thought I'd re-post here with some more bits added, now I'm trying to stick to my new year resolution to be more active.

My name is Chris and I was born and still do live in Stoke-on-Trent.

I decided on a whim to follow Fulham in the mid 1980's, what made me do it, I don't know, Panini stickers and wanting to be different would be the most likely culprits, however as I think about it now I also feel there must have been some sort of 6th sense that attracted me to FFC. We are not your run of the mill club and are quite unique, it's almost like I always belonged even from nearly 200 miles away its always felt like my club. A club that suits my personality.

My 1st game was a 1-1 draw at Port Vale on 19th September 1987, I have the programme which is how I remembered the date, but I can't remember who scored.

The following 2 seasons were spent glued to teletext waiting for news of how we were doing on a Saturday afternoon with my yearly Fulham fix coming at either Vale Park or Gresty Road where I remember big Jim Stannard our Goalkeeper scoring direct from a goal kick once, the only places I could get to see us play live.

Freedom soon came when I passed my driving test on the day Italia 90 started and for season 91/92 I was able to get to the delights of Shrewsbury, Bolton, Bury Mansfield etc if Fulham were playing in the north I was usually there.

Amazingly (or maybe not it is Fulham after all) I did not see us win a game until the 91/92 season (nearly 5 years) when we beat Bolton at Burnden Park 3-0 and I'm sure Andy Cole might have scored or made his debut for us that day.

What on earth possessed me to keep following us during that dismal period when all my mates were watching Stoke City and Port Vale have some relative success I do not know.

My 1st visit to the Cottage was in 93/94 to witness a 0-0 draw against Wrexham.

I'm now married and have 2 young daughters who I hoped would like football thus giving me an excuse to get to more games but they are not bothered.....yet.

Whilst I've never been a regular I've attended at least one game per season since that day in September 1987 as a spotty 14 year old and would not change any of it, how many fans of other teams can say they've watched their team in all 4 divisions and a European Final.

Nice story. Fulham is full of fans that actually have to work at it. Try following a noon match in SoCal. My wife thinks I'm nuts to get up at 4 AM for a football game. I cant imagine how those down under do it  :down_under: Of course it is all worth it. Well, except that the whining of the past 18 months has gotten out of hand. Life is not without its burdens. LOL
Post more often and work on those girls. You could always threaten to abandon them in Chelsea and see if that'll get them in line.
Here's at ya!

Don't envy you having to get up at 4 in the morning. Both girls know under no circumstances are they ever to support Chelsea, although my eldest daughter is currently making noises about supporting Arsenal. I'm sure her mum is behind it all

Arsenal is not so bad. At least they play pretty football. On the other hand, if she were pushing Chelsea........well, lets just say  the jury would probably find it justifiable.

Hey Folks!

I am Matt originally from Cincinnati, OH, USA, and have been following Fulham since the 2010-2011 season. Originally turned on to Fulham because of the Deuce and other previous american connections. Had the opportunity to visit the Cottage(2014) for a game when I was studying abroad, and saw them beat Bolton 4-0 :yay:

Looking forward to cheering on the Whites this season and getting to know the FoF community a bit better!

Cheers,
Matt

Howdy! My name is Lyle, and I am a Fulham fan going back to the 2006-2007 season. I live in Brede Hangeland's birthplace of Houston, Texas. I am originally from Louisiana, but have lived in Texas for over a decade now. I used to be a member of the FFC website forum way back when as Crispus Attucks, and I was a forum poster at FulhamUSA when it existed. I even met up with a couple of FulhamUSA folks years ago at a Houston pub to watch Fulham play.

I haven't been following Fulham super closely the last several years, but I am back to paying more attention now. I chose Fulham for its history, Craven Cottage, and the fact that it wasn't a powerhouse club. The character of the club just seems to fit my personality more than some other clubs. It's gentlemanly. The Americans on the team, like McBride and Bocanegra, helped at the time too.

I remember you as Crispus. I wonder if our hosts ever figured out who the real Crispus was? Welcome back. The overseas board has been almost inactive for some time. A lot of yanks bailed when Deuce did. The horrible football under Jol and the crazy kraut didn't help.

BTW, hope you and yours came out pf the recent hurricane/flooding ok.

What's up? Yeah, I posted quite regularly under Crispus Attucks. Loved it. I remember one person saying something about it, but I think they were American. Good times.

I made out okay during Harvey. Weirdest hurricane I've ever been through. Wasn't all that powerful for Houston, but then the thing took 5-6 days to move past us dropping an insane amount of water. Where I live got standing water of over a foot. I live in a second floor apartment and made out fine. I had to take a neighbor in from the first floor. They got 5-6 inches of water in their place. The water receded very quickly so we weren't in need of rescue. It wasn't a bayou, creek, lake, reservoir, or river flooding. Most people in Houston made out fine, but if you were right up near a body of water, you probably had catastrophic flooding. Some folks within walking distance of me with homes near White Oak bayou got wiped out. The level the water had to get to get inside their houses is amazing. Houston is picking up and moving forward.

I never really stopped following Fulham, but once FulhamUSA had website issues and the Fulham forum went away, I just kept away from Fulham fandom. Got back into baseball following the Astros in some lean years, but recognized they were building up something good, which is happening now.

Fulham looks good though. Bought the TV package. Watched the Boro and Forest games. Likeable team and I admire the owner Khan. Seems like a cool dude.

I have been watching more Bundesliga now too. I was a student in Germany and worked there one summer. I was near Cologne and pay attention to  1. FC Koeln. Great fans, but their team is a mess right now. Historically a big team in Germany, but since the late 90s they've been a yoyo team, going up and down.

Kia ora all from Auckland NZ. I've been here 16 years. Technology smiles on me now as I can get up n watch at 4am!
55 years old from Putney, first game taken to CC by my brother in '71 v Charlton, won 1-0 and hooked.

Glorious years up until 77 when I got an undeserved kick in that put me off going for many years but always checked scores, drifted back in 90s during Phoenix era!

Loving the way Slav has us sorted. Exciting times and love some of the groups on FB as some great characters!!

Cheers for letting us in. Usually well behaved but like most like caps drop a F occasionally. Looking forward to discussions here. Wish site had update to more accessible on mobiles.

Cheers all. Dave

Hi Friends.

My name is Ramón and I am from Two Sisters a city of Seville, in Spain. My fauvorite team is Real Betis Balompié, why Fulham is a good question.
To get started, I love the English league, the charm of its stadiums and when I first saw in photo Craven Cottage, I fell in love, wonderful.
Since that day I follow everything I can to Fulham.
The past November of 2013 I fulfilled a dream, I visited Craven Cottage to see a football match, Fulham vs Swansea. I wouldn´t forget this day, the only bad point, the result, defeat.
But see Craven Cottage, see a football match and when the match ended, appreciate the stadium and watch a dream come true, it's fantastic.
This year I want to come back and watch another game.
I have registred to this forum to talk about Fulham, meet other fans and to get better my level of English, I need to improve it  :003: :003:

Regards

Tried registering a few times, but this one finally stuck.  I think it was my username.  But anyway...

- From New Jersey in the States, played soccer as my main sport all growing up.
- Been a Fulham fan since McBride days (though not the main reason why I chose the club).  Working in a global job (and in many cases directly for a Brit or two), I know a lot of folks overseas, and everyone obviously had their club.  I stayed a general fan for a bit, and once I was more familiar with the Premier League, found the history of Fulham as London's oldest club, and the Cottage, as something I could get behind, even if they weren't 17-time League champions, etc etc..
- Visited Craven Cottage in summer of 2013 with my 3 boys in tow (all soccer players).  Was allowed to go out to the pitch, since it was off-season, got some great pictures.  Great time.  One of my sons is a Liverpool fan.  At least he hates Chelsea.

My first post.

Let me start by saying I've only been a real fan of the beautiful sport for the past five years. (I turn 51 next month)

I live in Los Angeles, California...born in a small town in Virginia where I wouldn't have ever heard of the sport of soccer if my mother hadn't moved me to Los Angeles when I was 13. (this was before I learned that UVA actually has a decent soccer program)

Since I was 8 years old I've been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan....my favorite athlete of all time is Dr. Julius Erving (basketball known as Dr. J).  My most recent favorite athlete has been Kobe Bryant.

So my favorite sports to watch use to be American Football and Basketball.

12 years ago I divorced my wife.   At the time my daughter was 2 years old.

10 years ago....the man that ended up spending those last 12 years with my ex...started coaching soccer to my 4 year old daughter.

My daughter now plays club soccer...and she just made the team for her high school squad as well.(9th grade)

I've always loved watching my daughter play soccer...but I didn't start to LOVE the sport until I saw my first EPL match between Manchester United and Arsenal.    NBCSN introduced me to Manchester United and GOOD football (I never liked the Los Angeles Galaxy OR the MLS because I simply thought it didn't look like "good" football)

So yes...I now include Manchester United with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Football Club as the sports franchises that I really like a lot.   The Steelers are the only team that fall into that LOVE catagory because they were my first.

Why Fulham?

Mostly because of the owner.    He's an American success story...he also happens to own an NFL team that I was hoping would come to Los Angeles a few years ago.   I didn't want the RAMS or the CHARGERS back in LA.  I wanted the Jaguars...whose games I'd started watching along with my Steelers.

Clint Dempsey...always respected him as a fighter.   Decent footballer imo.

I've now watched 3 full Fulham matches.

They play better ball than Manchester United.    They actually use their #9 (Mitrovic) the way United DON'T use Romalu Lukaku.  Fulham have an offensive identity that I can see.   United don't.

Fulham is more entertaining to watch than United has been the past 3 seasons.  I hate Jose Mourinho.

The only thing Fulham appears to be missing are two world class defenders.   One to play CB and one to play LB.

Otherwise...the team is an entertaining team to watch.

Last thing I'll say is that over the past 5 years world football has become my clear cut favorite sport to watch.

I owe that love to Manchester United and my daughter.

Thank you to both.

Edit:   I just joined FulhamTV and I've gone back and watched 5 (90 minute) of the matches that started Fulham's unbeaten streak last season.    Great broadcasts.

I should have at least 20 matches under my belt by the time the international break is over.  :)

Welcome! I live just north of LA, in the hills west of Palmdale and east of Castaic. A small part of Cali that is still what it used to be. I'm planning on moving out next year. Agree with you about the Galaxy and Mourinho. I too can't get into MLS. Bradley has done a good job at LAFC but the quality of the football to put it bluntly, is poor. I lost interest in the NFL some year ago. The games seem to be more about personalities than the actual game. That and ESPN can't broadcast any sort of sport without making the announcers more important then the actual contest. If you haven't heard a FFC match broadcast by Gentleman Jim, you are in for a treat. He is the original "homer". He is wonderfully partial and his voice just gushes with his love for Fulham.

I think you'll find our British hosts to be quite wonderful. Keep quiet about ManU. On here they're known as Manure and Chelsea is known as the blue poo or the scum. LOL There are a number of Americans on here. I joined when McBride came aboard, 2004 I think. There are many of the locals who were born into Fulham. A number have been fans for 60-70 years. Keep in touch and post often. If you get snipped at, ignore it and phrase all that is Fulham.  082.gif

Hi everyone, long time guest, registered yesterday because I think I need a place to vent as this season unravels. Born in Hammersmith, grew up in Wandsworth. My uncle, a Chelsea fan, would take me to any local game that was cheap (it seems unbelievable now, but you used to be able to decide on the day what match you would take in). I hated Chelsea, Brentford and QPR barely registered with me, but something about The Cottage, the colours and the walk to the ground made me a Fulham fan. I was a season ticket holder in the Riverside, but in 2011 I moved to the Czech Republic to raise my family with my Czech wife. If any of the guys here are ever in Pilsen and fancy a few of the excellent local beers and a football chat let me know!

How Pilsen doing these days? I rode through their on a train to Prague in 2000. It looked like it had some old charm to it, but also a bit rusted out.

Exact same reason I started following fulham - Mark Schwarzer! Followed him from Boro to Fulham and fell in love with the club and the rest is history. Lived over in London for a bit over a year and was lucky enough to be over there for the entire season we were promoted. Some absolute brilliant memories I'll take to the grave with me - overcoming a 1-0 deficit in our play off against Derby to book ourselves a spot at Wembley and being one of the first ones over the fence to pitch invade at full time and running over to a bewildered Ryan Sessengnon and hugging and celebrating with him. Winning the play off final at Wembley. The day was just absolutely perfect. Pre match at one of our designated pubs who's name escapes me had an amazing vibe about it. Really set the tone for an amazing day for the club.

Fulham supporters are few and far between over here given everyone supports a top 4 club. Refreshing to see another Aussie Fulham supporter!

Welcome to the two of you. Our Aussie contingent has fallen off since the esteemed Corked Hat past. I've been chasing the Whites since 2004 when Brian McBride (McGod) came aboard and just fell in love with the club. Gentlemen and gentle ladies abound along with a few horse's petutes. You'll figure out who they are the first time your opinion differs. In all in good fun.

Have always supported Fulham (20 yrs). I lived in Scotland and would fly down on weekends to my friends place in London. He lived in Hammersmith and I would time my weekends to coincide with games at the cottage. I brought my wife there 4 years ago just for her to see it.

Hi everyone! I just joined this board today, though I have been supporting Fulham from twitter for a while now (@RSLboi).

I am from St. George, UT, USA (though I am often in SLC watching Real Salt Lake).

Started supporting Fulham back in 16/17. My mom had bought me a Man City jacket when I was a kid, so I always had supported them. In 16/17 ESPN had just started showing some Championship games, so I decided I should pick a Championship team. I picked Fulham because of the Radiohead song Ful Stop (figured the "Ful" might have been related), and because their kits were sweet. Started to read about the history of the club and realized basically every American star had played here. Over the next year of watching Fulham, I realized supporting a team that always wins like City wasn't any fun and my love for Fulham was growing strong. Once the 17/18 season started, I was a full fledged Fulhamaniac, and it's stayed like that ever since.

Wise decision lad. I too started with Citi when Claudio Reyna was there but after a bad match the trash came out of the woodwork and bashed Reyna with endless xenophobic slurs. There is very little of that with FFC and none with the long time people. Great bunch here. (Mostly, LOL)
The FFC website has an inexpensive way to watch the majority of the Whites matches so check it out.
Remember, Brian McBride's correct name is McGod. Great captain and a great competitor and roundly loved at FOF.
Welcome! COYW

I am from Shepherds Bush but live in Powder Springs Georgia US.
Why Fulham, my mothers family used to live just down the road from the cottage and got Bombed out in the war, all her brothers were Fulham fans, so it was only natural they would take me to the games. I think my first game was when I was 5 in 1953, we moved to Vauxhall but always Fulham
I was at first a QPR supporter because I was born just down the road from loftus road and could hear the crowd, but Fulham through and through, used to travel with the lads in the late 60's and early 70's but then married an American girl so my visits to CC are pretty rare these days.

Well, I had never been a huge football fan until I married my wife, who's half English, and met her father, who's a lifetime Fulham fan and introduced me to the sport.
I've since then started following British, French and Russian football as well as the Belgian league, and I've been cheering for Fulham for over a decade now... man, it doesn't help me feel any younger!

Welcome Tanker. Best place in football is next to the Thames. Things are a bit slow at the moment. Seems there is some sort of virus going round. It'll all get better when the Mighty Whites come out of hibernation.

1) What country and city/town are you from?
Montreal, Canada...born & raised. Work has brought me to Japan several times. I started off as 'FanFromJapan' on the old, official message board. I switched to 'HPFlashman' before it shut down.

2) Why do you support The Fulham Football Club?
At first, I was following Paul Peschisolido's career. That was in the spring of 1999. Then, Fulham charmed me. All Canadian fans know Graham Leggat. He was a broadcaster/announcer in Canada. When I found out he is a legend of the club, I was completely sold.  :wow:

3) Did you support another team before Fulham?
The Montreal Manic (Yes, it's a club).

Hi. My first post after tiring somewhat of the Fulham Independent (TIFF) board.

Lived in Teddington until I was 18 (1983). Dad used to take me one week to Fulham the next to Scum when we were both in the old 2nd Division. Made me choose but suggested Fulham. I didn't need much convincing. As a child going to Fulham you'd be passed down to the front of the terrace so you could see the game. At HT and FT you'd find your dad! Stamford Bridge just a horrible cauldron of neanderthal, NF scum.

Moved to Australia with my Australian mum. Hard to support from Australia in those dark days before the Internet and our rise to the Premier League. Sometimes I'd have to wait until Tuesday to see scores from Saturday games!

For the last 12 years, I've taught in international schools in Vietnam (where I presently am), Germany and Lao and got back to London and the odd game sporadically. Moving to Hong Kong to continue the teaching odyssey in a month (yes, you can get flights now from HCMC to Hong Kong). My 15 year old son has never lived in England but is solid Fulham. Sorry George.

Welcome! My wife has a cousin who's living near Saigon. He served over there, met a girl and over the years decided to go back and stay. Even though I was there at a negative time (1968), I found the country beautiful and the people generally cordial.  Like to go back some day.
I'm always interested when I find a White even further from the Cottage than I am (SoCal). Anyway, post often.

I have been a Fulham Fan for over ten years now. I follow them as the letters on their kits FFC stuck with me from early days of watching Premier League football. Early in my football days I supported Chelsea during the John Terry/Didier Drogba period. However I have been solid with my Fulham support since that time. Thanks for letting me on board and good luck lads against Chelsea this Saturday. Relegation? NO!

Hi guys!

I'm actually a Spurs supporter and have been visiting the Lane multiple times per year from here in Austria until Covid came. Now I'll be there from Oct 15th to 18th for the NFL London games and I just can't leave London without a proper football stadium experience.

As Spurs do not play this weekend unfortunately I have decided that Fulham might be the best option. The Arse, West Ham and Chelski are no option obviously as I hate them as much as you do probably. Always liked Fulham especially because of their cool home ground. So it will be Fulham vs QPR on October 16th.

Now I got some questions regarding the ticketing process, honestly couldn't find anything on their official homepage. Do I need to be a member to gain access to match tickets? What is the area inside the stadium with the best atmosphere? How much are the tickets? Is there any pub around the ground for a pre match beer with good atmosphere?

Would appreciate if some of you could answer my questions. Can't wait to visit the Craven Cottage!

rgrds from Austria
Lukas

I'm from St. Louis, Missouri ( just like Tim Ream).

It's sort of a silly story of how I became a Fulham fan. On my first visit to London, I happened to rent an apartment on Wardo Ave.  While out on a walk around the neighborhood,  I came upon Craven Cottage and was just struck by it's charm. The Johnny Haynes statue was another thing that added to the idea that this team had deep roots, and I was interested in finding out much more about the team. I was a little surprised to find the team is owned by Illinois native, and almost-St. Louis Rams owner Shahid Kahn. (He put an offer in but was outbid by Stan Kroenke,  who quickly moved the team to Los Angeles.)

I'm a recent fan of soccer, and I'm eager to learn more about the sport. I do like American football and baseball, but have found both of those sports have become overburdened with so many rules that the games are becoming tedious. I really don't know much about the team, or the league, but I am learning a lot, and am really excited about watching Fulham this season.

Welcome RichTrue to the boards.  I followed Bryan McBride to FFC back in 2004 and have fully enjoyed the ups and downs of being a Fulham fan.  If you do your research you'll find that there is no other team in Europe that has had or currently has more American players.  Long may that be true  049:gif

Look forward to seeing and hearing more from you on the boards.

Born raised in Melbourne Australia
Lived in Hammersmith for 2 years in the mid 90s. Went to QPR and Chelsea games but even though we were almost last in the 3rd tier and the other 2 were in the premier league, I loved standing at the Cottage and have been an avid fan since.
Proud to say after two visits since I lived in London that I've seen us play and win in all 4 divisions.
Never miss a result or game on Bein sport when we play

'Allo, Friends.

1) I currently live north of Baltimore, Maryland. Before that Central Pennsylvania, Boston, Cincinnati, Indiana. Born outside Chicago.

2) Last year my son suggested we start following non-American football. My grandmother was born in London, so I did some research and discovered she was born in Fulham. The family lived on Escourt Road. A bit of research about the team piqued my interest. Then I watched a game. Gentlemen Jim, Jamie, Ream, Mitro, and the Cottage hooked me in immediately. A good friend here has relatives who lived in Brentford, so I had an immediate local rivalry to boot.

3) Not beyond the University team where I teach and team USA.

Here's hoping I can make a pilgrimage some day!

Hi all,

Just registered today, but have been following Fulham since the start of the season.

I come from Portugal and the main reason to follow is João Palhinha!! Me and my 2 kids are Sporting Clube Portugal fans and love this guy!
Just so unfair he didn´t play almost anything in the world cup, what a dum our coach was...

I expect to go to London in February with my family and love to be able to watch a game.

Hello all,
Thought I'd introduce myself, have been a quiet "observer" of FOF for some time but this is my first post.
I'm an Aussie but have been supporting Fulham since 2008. The reason i started supporting Fulham was because it was the closest Premier League team to where I lived in London at the time and they also had a rather epic Aussie Mark Schwarzer as goalkeeper at the time.
I've been an avid supporter ever since albeit it has certainly been a roller coaster ride over that period. Whilst there has been plenty of pain and anguish as a supporter you can always guarantee that it is never dull being a Fulham supporter!!
And what a season they are having this year! Up the Whites!
PS. I'm now living in New Zealand, be interested to know if there are many kiwis on here?

Hello from Nashville, TN. I started to follow Fulham in 2005-6 when the EPL was only available on an obscure cable channel (Bein Sports) in the US. Why? They were the only team with US players so I just figured why not? Then I fell in love with the team, the Cottage and the club as a whole. Been a loyal friend of Fulham ever since. My dream is to see a match at the Cottage. Hopefully this season as my job is now taking me to the UK. That's the short story. COYW.
