Title: IN light Rod Stewart crying at Celtic. Have you ever cried a Fulham match
Post by: mr-ska on November 09, 2012, 09:18:33 AM
I have...never when we've been relegated.. because im usually ready for it..

I remember crying when we lost the FA Cup Final...  i wasn't at the match..  just remember my whole family being upset at the result.  I was 6 at the time.

I cried when we drew 1-1 with Sheffield Weds to confirm our promotion to the Premiership.

Obviously the great escape brought some tears after Murphy put the ball in the net..  but then i thought i was having a heart attack because i was celebrating so much.

The Semi Final at home to Hamburg brought the most tears... when we equalised,  when we went ahead,  and then at the final whistle..  just utter disbelief!

I didn't cry at losing the Final...  i felt depressed more than anything. Which was soon replaced with a huge amount of pride at what we'd achieved.

Anyone else  had a good old sob?

Both the Juventus and Hamburg games made a shed a tear, whilst celebrating frantically of course.

Yes, I was 16 at the time. I lost a night of revision because of it, and look where I ended up

Promotion to the Prem at home to Sheff Wed because my Dad who was a life long FFFC fan had died earlier that year and I just wished that he had been by my side on that great day  :dft004:

Also at the final whistle when we beat Hamburg to get to the final the seeing the emotion of everyone around started the tears of joy.

Can't say I've ever cried myself, a tear has been in the eyes though on a number of occasions: our survival at Portsmouth, the Juve home game (after going to the away game and sitting freezing my butt off in that ground after not taking very appropriate clothing it made it all worth it), the Hamburg semi-final win.

I will however always remember at the Final in Hamburg there was an old guy sat next to me, must have been in his late 80's and a lifelong Fulham fan. He was crying at the opening ceremony/teams coming out. Guess he never could have imagined seeing Fulham in such a game and the occasion was too much for him - was touching to be honest.

I was teary eyed at the game at home to Walsall during the Fulham Park Rangers fears. When their fans joined in the chants and the support and....It was just so great.

I never expect to win and so am just depressed and or angry after big defeats.

But there are a few great wins that make me come close.

Home to Hamburg semi final.....to think we were going to a european final and thinking 15 years ago how the club were looking and where we were. I think the way we won the semi final and the matches we had made that night even more dramatic and emotional.
I wanted to get on the pitch and give Mr al fayed a hug and just say "thank you so much for what you have done".

Unashamed boo-ing when Dempsey's chip went in.  Couldn't control it.  I knew I would after we got the third and the fourth looked possible.

hamburg, juve, pompey.

like most, the final for me was...just a dull pain. There was no real feeling. I just sort of moped about all week without feeling up nor down. It just felt like nobody could beat us, even when it was 1-1 i thought it was the fairytale ending, winning in penalties, gera to take the decisive one or something like that, cement his place in our history etc.

When forlan scored, i just sat there and watched, and then went off to work (it was about 8am here at the time).

At home to blackburn last season, i had lost my mum during the week and my dad insisted i used his season ticket to go (i work sats so cant go most games).... My mum was always behind me at football whether i was playing or going to Fulham even making me sandwiches to go with until her last days (i'm 46  :021:)

Anyway at i think 2 - 1 down i was sitting there thinking how crap life was but then we turned it round and Zamora (wish it was someone else) scored the penalty to clinch the win.. i stayed in my sit after and had a little cry but even after such a week i was actually happy and smiling purely because we had won.

A reminder of how strong an emotion Fulham is in probably all our life's.....

Watery eyed at the final whistle in the cup final and when the late goal at Europa final went in. There was just no time to get it back.

Only once.  When John Mitchell scored with virtually the last kick of the game against Birmingham in 1975 semifinal.

After the replay, the extra time and everything that went on before, it all just seemed so unreal.

never. but i was closest when we drew 2-2 at derby and then it was very realistic that we would be relegated.

Remember being behind the goal for that one and the ball seemed to creep oh so slowly over the line!

And at Vicarage Road when we lost 4-0 in the Bobby Campbell days and went down. Not so much because of that, but because of the coin that was thrown at me from the home fans on the other side of the safety barrier.

The final home game of the season on promotion to the Premiership. As the team were presented after the game and there was Chris Coleman lifting the trophy. Was trying to take photos and could not see a thing. It was a dream come true and it had been a long 33 years of support since the previous top flight game.

I do remember being upset pretty much all of the 79-80 season. It was my first full season of watching fulham every game I could (well as much as you can at 13) and of course we got relegated. this combined with a crap home life (mother & father breaking up) led to many nights crying under the covers after another loss.

Felt very depressed on occassions,  but look horrific if i cry, so being vain try to avoid it at all costs. If we beat Barcelona though i wouldn't be able to hold myself  back with tears of joy.

Yup, at Selhurst park (68-69 I think?). Fulham were 2-0 up at half time, with a very portly Johnny Byrne playing for us and I think Frank Large was involved. As a solitary Fulham fan attending a Croydon school it was tough! Anyway, Palace scored 3 in the second half and were champions, blub, blub.

So many memories in this thread and "I was there moments" when my emotions would have been at either extreme.  Train journey back from Watford in 79/80 and relegation, Bristol Rovers play off defeat, Europa Final, Clay & Bulstrode to Juve, Pompey, promotions all the way to the Premiership etc etc etc

Actually cried?  Hamburg at home.  My Dad who does not come to many games was there and we with more grown men than I can remember wept for joy that night.

Agree with Crystal palace relegating us when i was a lad. And also blubbed after Juve and especially Hamburg. But not when we lost to Atletico.

Reading some of these posts has actually brought tears to my eyes: I have no doubt shed a tear or too but never when the horrible things have happened - FA Cup Final defeat, Watford, Swansea, Europa Cup Final defeat - or ground sale issues - most powerfully when Bulstrode was going to make us into Fulham Park Rangers - which have all left me in a deep depression where talking is pointless and my whole mood is affected long term. One exception here is when I came to Craven Cottage after my mother died as she also loved Fulham.

When the good things have happened, tears have often appeared at some point around the euphoria and the hugs with beloved strangers - but often unexpectedly when I'm back at home with my wonderful Fulham loving family. Coyw!

Shed a tear when the boys walked out in the Euro final, just seeing how far we had come from those very dark days and now in front of the world felt like really we had put our name on the map. Oh yes tears of pride alright.

I am quite happy to admit i too have cried a few times. The first was before the game walking through Bishops Park ahead of what was ment to have been the last ever game at the cottage, twice our average crowd turned up that day, if my memory serves me right it was at home to Bradford in 1992. The second was after the Sheffield Wednesday game when "we are the champions" was being played and all the flags were being waved, i had waited 25 years for something that good to happen. Villa away was a close call as was Juventus and Hamburg. Swansea was very sad but no tears i guess we were used to failing back then.
