Marcus has got a call-up for England.
Well done !
Great news for Marcus and hopefully a major confidence boost, well done!
Happy for him. Shocked is an understatement.
Marcus could be joined somewhere along the line by Alfie Mawson and Ryan Sessegnon in the England squad.
Good luck to him!!
Just the start but what a fantastic achievement for a true professional who has grafted and overcome every challenge he has faced for the past 5 years.
As above, fingers crossed for a bus stop outside Alfie and Ryan's front door soon...
Really happy for Marcus, brilliant and more recognition for our brilliant academy.
Absolutely delighted for him. Well done Marcus. Nobody can handle a flare like that man!! :yay:
Very happy for Marcus who I regard very highly as a goalkeeper and a person. :yay:
Also proud and thrilled for Fulham to see him making his way from the academy to the national team. 049:gif
Did I also read in the Tuesday roundup that he'd got himself a new contract?
Not to be the bearer of bad news... Betts onlt gets an England cap when he takes the field, but also he has joined as part of the wider training group. Great news for him, not so good for Fulham as he will not be taking part in Fulham training.
well i have been saying fabri has been dodgy in the few games he's played for us - well done to slava for making a quick change, and well done to marcus for earning a call up
I'm delighted for him.
Well deserved, may not get a game but to be part of a wider training group is a massive feather in his cap.
We could have a possibilty of Betts, Mawson and Sessegnon all being called up along with possibly Chambers and Bryan - COYWs
brilliant news.
Is he the first fulham goalkeeper called up to an england full squad?

Stockdale was called up but dipped out because he was getting wed.
Great news.
Congratulations to him.
Shows another reason why it is important to be in the PL.
One Of Our Own + At 26 he has been with us for over half his life.
Great news - well done.
Knew this would happen this season! Earlier than expected though.
Well done ,also puts your value up
Massive congrats and fully deserved.

Fernhurst, The last goalkeeper to get close that we produced was a certain Tony Macedo...only his birth place held him back, as you are well aware. 049:gif
Well done Betts :54:
I have a gut feeling he's going to put in some fantastic performances in an England shirt and play in an actual competitive game for Eng too..!
Such great news - well done Betts - you deserve it !
I think Maik Taylor could well have got a call-up if he hadn't already opted for NI.
Fantastic news for Betts & Fulham. He will be followed by Sess & Mawson. Would be great for all 3 to play together for England.
Congratulations and well deserved.
That's great news. I wonder if it will have any effect upon Slavisa's view of him relative to the other keepers. Your horn is loudest when someone else blows it for you.
Well done to Betts. Fully deserved call up. 049:gif
Well done to Betts, will be good for his confidence..
Selfishly though would have been good to have him training with the defensive unit this week but very happy for him.
Fantastic news! Well done Betts 049:gif
I say good luck to Betts but at the same time I find this amusing.
At the end of last season when questioned Gareth Southgate said that they were keeping an eye on Betts but they would not select a keeper who did not have Premiershp experience.
Two games later!!
Ive got a sneaky feeling betts regularly reads this message board, well done mate.
FULLY DESERVED :clap_hands: :yay: 049:gif :dft012:
This shows how being back in the Prem puts the club back in the media's/public eye, after a few years of Championship invisibility.
Bets call up is great for the club's profile, as well as for the player, who fully deserves it - well done mate.
Let's hope we see some more Fulham players getting full England caps.
Great news. Quite a turnaround the past few weeks.
pleased for the callup, but a callup ain't a cap. I doubt he'll get one this time out, and I don't think anything other than a massive drop in form can pry the gloves from Pickford in the next 10 years, but good recognition for the difference he's made for Fulham this season.
Pickford is injured!
Congrats to the man!
Totally deserved. Betts has been our best keeper for a long time and remains our best until I see someone capable of taking over as our number one (and as yet I haven't).
So very pleased for him and as others have reminded us, he's one of our own.
Superb news - well done Betts. Recognition for all your hard work and determination. 077.gif :wow:

I'm pleased for him as well but to be fair to Rico and Fabri. None of our goalkeepers have any experience in the Premiership. Slav sees far more of them than you or I and picks accordingly. The one thing we do know about Betts is he sticks in there and doesn't give up. Which maybe true of Fab and Rico too. What is certain is we have a trio of good keepers who will fight to keep us in this league.

They obviously see a lot of potential in him and he does have all the attributes needed to succeed and time on his side.. that being said though there's a lot of competition for the number one jersey and whilst no keeper has made it their own.. i wouldn't put him above the likes of pickford for instance. That said he probably is the most rounded keeper in terms of approach and academic all round ability due to his dad's influence and with his height and ability if fine tuned and encouraged perhaps one day he could go to a tournament at least.
Would be quite something to see us have three players in an England squad at a tournament.. aided by the fact slavisas style is similar to the one Southgate wants to play.. I also think schurrle could make his way back into the reckoning for the Germany squad if he continued to play this way.. when was the last time we had a German international on our books?

Betts in my opinion is better at the moment than the other two keepers and safer.
Coincidentally so does Slavisa.
He deserves to be called up to the England squad in the same way that he deserves to be Fulhams number one.
I remember how much it meant to him when the final whistle blew in the play off final, after keeping another clean sheet, and secured our place in the Premier League once again, and he is one of our own.

A championship standard keeper was sold and two academy keepers were loaned out.
What makes you think whether or not Betts is 100% capable that Fulham wouldn't sign some competition for the #1 spot, like they have for every other position. Rico and Fabri are fantastic competition and 3 top level keepers pushing each other can only help us.

Passion is part and partial of competive sport, it's an important ingredient in the process of becoming a success.
I hope he is there to stay in goal as our number one.

Having Rico and Fabri on the books will create a healthy competition for places.

There's also the fact that Betts can speak English, which most of our back line speak. No doubt being able to commicate with the defence has benefitted him. On a slight tangent, I would be surprised if we kept all 3 keepers. I don't see why Rico or his parent club would accept a whole season of being 3rd choice when he can do that back in Spain.

Speaking English is a massive advantage for a Goalkeeper in England, in fact it is essential, and Rico can return home to Spain if he or his parent club are not happy, with my blessing.

Exactly that's why I said "until I see someone capable of taking over (and as yet I haven't)". If Ricoh or even Fabri turn out to be better keepers then good luck to them. You have previously made extravagant claims that they are both better, you seem to have based this on their past experience. I prefer the evidence of what I see and as yet neither have shown anything to suggest they can overtake Betts, but I agree it might happen. We will have to wait and see but in the meantime Betts remains my preferred choice.
It's not technically a cap unless he plays a game though right?
It's not a cap in any way, shape or form unlesss he actually steps onto the pitch during the course of an international match.
("call" rather than "cap" might have fitted better in the title of the thread. But if the cap fits....)
Well done Betts - delighted!

Does it matter who plays where? Slavs picks the player he feels will do best in any particular game. He now has three keepers who all have their strengths. Several things happen when new players step into the squad. A player whose spot is under pressure can up his game. As Betts has done before. He may want away. Players coming in have to get to grips with possible a new league, country, language and style of play etc.
My heart would like Betts, as one of our own, to keep the shirt. My head wants the best possible player available to us.
Well doe Betts, hope you are given some game time and a cap quite soon.
This really must give you the edge and make you our no 1 keeper.

Would this be Fabri's distribution in just two games? If so I am sure you fully u derstand that the statistical significance of such a small sample is far too low to provide any factual evidence?
Great position for Slav to have the chioce.
Heres another fact. Betts speaks English. Quite important as I know having been an ex defender with a few non English speaking keepers.
Statistically, Fulham only lose league games this season if I don't attend. "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

Ahh but how many penalties have each saved?
Considering Betts is out of contract next summer can see him not extending now and seeing how many games he plays and I can't fault him if that happens.
Seemed to be enjoying his inclusion in the squad.
Does the letter he receives informing him of his selection include the sentence "bring your own sandwiches"?
Only spotted him once behind his manager, chomping on some food like there was no tomorrow.
