TC's Sporran

is to take relegation on the chin, no sacking of the manager, saving millions not gambling on players and then next season being much better prepared financially to go for promotion to the prem and the season after THEN make an attempt to stay up armed with a much more experienced manager and more importantly loads more money
accept being a yo-yo club for another two seasons

also new stands dont grow on trees?

No but contract expiry aside felt we should have attempted this with Slavisa 2 years ago. Of course staying up would have been preferable however.

No

We will just be in the same situation then that we are now (that's if we're even lucky enough to get promoted again, which is always a gamble in the Championship no matter how much you spend)

WhiteJC

you're making the assumption that there is a plan, I don't see one

RaySmith

No.
There's no way you  can guarantee if or when you will go up again  if relegated, and  going down causes such upheaval to a club -  sacking of staff, losing players, etc.

And why would anyone actually want this anyway - if you stay up you get that season's Prem TV money, and can  build for the future.
If you go down, you can stay down for years or for ever, or even head in the other direction - us with our  spanking new stand even!

No ,no , no. No matter what, the club should be giving their all and by that I mean from the board to the team on the pitch. Us fans are owed that much at the very least.

finknottle

No. But I'm sure the owners know there is a fairly high chance of us going down so are trying to buy players who might stick around and do a job in the championship (ie - Reed, Robinson). Loaning out Mawson and Sess so they get a full season of championship experience would also mean they'd be ready for a promotion push.

They also need to see if Mawson can stay fit for an extended period of time.

If we go down this season, we aren't gonna come back up.

A relegation bounce and stay up is a plan (maybe good or maybe bad but it is a plan), but we need three young centre backs at the club now that will peak in a couple of years to implement it.

Players that are yet to peak include: Rodak; Tete, Robinson; Reed, Anguissa, Onamah; Kamara, Mitro and Cav that haven't yet peaked, but we need another two to three centre backs younger than imbedded to implement it.

If we plan to go down in a bounce plan, sell everyone older than Cairney immediately.

Being a yo yo club in the end means quality players leaving on a regular basis turnover of players of a lesser quality so less chance of going back to the prem.

It needs a wise old head to have a plan.

Sting of the North

Of course we don't plan to go down. There's a big difference between planning to go down and being aware of the high risk of doing so. As such, decisions should of course be made with the possibility of next season being spent in the Championship, but the main focus and goal is of course to stay up.

There is no competitive or financial gain to be had by being relegated as compared to staying up.

If we go down this year we will loose a host of players on a perm transfer rather than the loans that went out last season.
I cant see Mitrovic, Anguissa, Cairney, Bryant, Tete, etc staying if we go down, meaning we have to start building completely again and wont go up in 3/4 years

At the moment (on paper) we look well set to have a fighting change to stay up (yes yes we need 2 x CB & a winger) but the core is decent enough to stay up.

I'm sure all this was said 2 years ago about not coming back etc but we did. Not entirely sure we would this time round though. I am wondering if the Khans hadn't expected us to get promotion this year and it caught them by surprise and are desperately trying to make the best of the situation.

It isn't a plan so much as what is enforced on us by FFP. Because we're still paying off the 2018 transfers across the lifetimes of each signing's contracts, and we haven't sold any of them, we don't have any money to spend on new transfers, particularly when you bolt on the £30m we spent on three championship forwards on top of that.

Remember when we needed to invest in January 2019 and didn't? We're in a very similar situation with very similar financial commitments now.

If it is the plan they're doing a great job

I reckon we could spend another £100m on new players this season without hitting the maximum permitted losses under FFP. So we're hardly constrained.

Yes it would bite us in future years if we went down, lost the ZPL revenue streams and still had to account for those players. But there are exit strategies for that - selling them, loaning them out, clauses providing for a reduction in their wages if we go down, or best of all, loaning them now and only making the deal permanent if we stay up.
