Nice piece about his impact at Celtic on the BBC website.

Always liked Matt. Good eye for a pass and very friendly towards the fans. Feels like we've missed out on one here

We aren't doing well bringing through the academy talent are we.

One of the problems when you have a huge squad.

Could be decent competition for Carvalho. Or he could have taken the backup spot that falls to Chalobah/Onomah.

This is also the kind of attitude that makes me unsympathetic when people start crying and gnashing their teeth about youngsters leaving and how unfair it is, we clearly have no loyalty to them.

Yes thought he had much going for him. I spoke at length to an FFC scout about him - he felt Matt had a real chance of making it ....and looks like he has.
I also like what I've seen from Ollie O'Neill . He reminds me of Sean O'Driscoll the way he drifts past players

From what I could gather, O'Riley was most unhappy about Parker insisting that he play in a more defensive midfield role for the under 23s. I don't think bringing him on against Reading and then substituting him before the end did much for their relationship either.

O'Neill's a terrific talent. Not sure if you have seen much of Luke Harris, but he has the potential to be the best player to come through our academy in a long, long time.

i remember him running the show against Wycombe away in the carabao cup

Gossip was that Matt  had decided to leave almost a year before he actually did. He didn't seem to have much encouragement to stay.
We shouldn't keep making these mistakes and it could happen again with some of our present talented crop of young U23 players.
There are more are more and more 18/20 year olds making their mark in the top divisions.

Given that our u23s are currently pissing the league you'd think there would be some talent there.

As with any youngster coming through thry should be eased into the team gradually or start with a loan to get game time. Neither happened.

The club is between a rock and a hard place. They absolutely have to get promoted at the first time of asking when relegated, as otherwise FFP issue bites, plus the better players, e.g. Tete, Tosin, Mitro etc may look elsewhere. So on the one hand, other than the absolute gems like Carvalho, most youngsters barely get a look in because we are either carrying bottom end of PL players from our last PL season, or we have bought good players e.g Wilson to help us get promoted. And then when in the PL, we are fighting for our lives so the experienced players get picked. But on the other hand, we are also trying to develop quality players through our academy, which does fairly well for our size and the number of other London area clubs we are competing with, but inevitably some of those will not get many opportunities to prove themselves and may then do well somewhere else, e.g. Adebayo, Woodrow etc.

Basically, it is easier to push young players through when the stakes are not so high, you are mid table etc. I think we have made mistakes with not getting some of the promising ones out on loan enough, where they can get minutes and learn the men's game. It's nice that our U23s have done so well, but would it not be better to get Hilton, Bowie, O'Neill etc out on loan?

This from MK but now is dominating the midfield for Celtic

Never forget...

Parker chose to play his love child Onomah over this man....oh and also Harry Arter. We potentially lost out on O'Riley because we gave his place to Josh and Harry in the line up....depressing

Rumour is that Ollie O'Neill is off in the Summer rather than continuing with the club. Another one bites the dust?

FFP makes it very hard to sign players like Carvalho, who is possibly worth up to £110,000 per week to another club because in three years time he could be sold for more than £20m (i.e. his wages over three years). But FFP wise that would mean we cannot bring in another £110,000 attacking midfielder (e.g. Riyad Mahrez), and we'd have to use Carvalho instead. While the reamaining lifetime value of Fabo Carvalho (20yo) is more than Riyad Mahrez (30yo), the later is more useful over the next 3 years.

Facts Not Fiction

Scott Parker decided to employ his brother in law, pushing O'Riley out. The former is now plying his trade in non league.

Scott Parker is the main reason why O'Riley left.

There is an opportunity right now, with Kebano injured for someone in that wide left position, is there anyone up to the task.
