I like Southgate but it was notable how much better we looked playing a high press, he needs to switch to this. I can only assume he's worried about the lack of pace in central defence and risk of being dome on the counter, but we showed we can't defend when playing a lower block.

agree with OP but i only saw second half . very negative approach . I though germany moved the ball about and found each other better than we did . Not knocking him but just dissapointed with the style of play that yes is similar to scotty .

The last 2games England have been playing  pretty miserable and seem to have been  not motivated so think this could be the end of Southgate expirment or the start of it,can see the likeness of Scot Parker method.

Southgate probably loses to Wales and the USA in the World Cup, which would see England not get of their group probably.

Doubt that. Group isn't up to much. Think it'll be an exit at the hands of one of the more mature sides in the knockout stages. Have a horrible feeling that the Euros was our time to win a major trophy and we didn't take it.
Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I smiled when we had a throw in way up the pitch yet succeeded to pass it all the way back whilst being harassed & all the way to the keeper who rushed & kicked it out of play. But a point is a point. I also thought Kane was offside prior to the penalty shout.

I was having the exact conversation with my better half yesterday evening....ok, she was asleep - but our dog will vouch for it

Southgates England bore me rigid. They are flat track bullies. Rarely watch the internationals now. With world class attack minded players we should play to our strength but rarely do

He sets this team up as a mid table prem team while convincing everyone we are underdogs . That team should have won the Euros comfortably but like a mid table prem team just says didn't we do well .
As for last night . Brings on a £100mio footballer and is a tactical genius ?

Let the handbrake off Gareth and let these guys play .

Southgate has never excited me except when he was manager at Middlesboro and I had him down as first manger to be sacked (and duly won money)

To me, he is a brown nose FA non confrontational pair of hands

His football is exciting as an ice cream that has been out in the sun all day

Best England football in last 50 years was under Joe Mercer

Unfortunately Southgate managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in his two biggest games to date, the game against Croatia he was struck by tactical paralysis and completely lost the plot second half, against Italy his terrible subbing and penalty screw up cost us the match. If he had brought on our young attackers earlier we could have run the aged central defenders ragged and the pens would not have been needed. But no, he delayed until the game was over.

It was very Parker-esque but with a massive amount of pressure on him.

I think he needs a slightly more adventurous addition to his coaching staff, to remind him in moments of tension that attacking can sometimes win the game ! They seem so careful all the time. His prep and team building is excellent. It is just the final execution and that touch of bravado that is lacking.

Also of course he has a potentially amazing squad, it does help.Rice/Kane/Grealish and our full backs are enough to win a tournament.

PS Sunbury White spot on about Joe Mercer, Mick Channon and co were brilliant for that liberating brief period.
