the hosting company has a couple of "issues", they assure me that their on top of them and the site shouldn't go down again

Thanks John, thought it was my end.

Yeah i was going to bring it up at the Moderator roundtable....  I think the amount of people viewing or posting on the site is rocketing! Remember.. this is close season..  it used to be one man and his dog... and Blingo  and that was it...

...I think it's due to the popularity of the mods..?

You know you just lost fifteen brilliant thoughts of mine! Thoughts that will NEVER meet the public sphere!

after some investigation the hosting company has told me that the Friday down time was due to another website, hosted on the same server, getting excessive amounts of traffic.
This traffic was caused by an extremely high profile Twitter account posting a link to it.  The site was receiving hundreds if not thousands of visitors a minute and the PHP engine was stalling.  Originally it crashed due to the high load and high memory usage but we re-configured the server to handle PHP memory usage better during this time and the server then did not crash again.  However, due to the extremely high load PHP sites were running slowly.  This was resolved a few hours later.

Sunday's crash is still being investigated.

In the meantime, friendsoffulham is being moved to a different server, this should not cause any interruption however, when I get a date/time for this move I'll let you all know (will be in the next 48 hours)

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I think Brentford is trying to hack our site  :58:

I seriously doubt that any Brentford supporters have the brain capacity to be able to hack a website.

just a quick one, sometimes i try and post something and it doesn't let me, with a message "you're not allowed to post" or something similar. It happens very reguarly, is this a known bug?

we will be switching servers this morning, sometime between 10:00 & 11:00

WhiteJC

well that was painless!

we've switched servers so fingers crossed that the crashes are behind us  :026:

LBNo11

...well done WhiteJC, it was so painless that some are complaining on the FoF facebook page that they demand more stress, I can't mention names as I cannot spell the Belgians name...

Ooops!

Indeed! I must protest about this smoothness. I have been stressing out all morning as I would have been unable to check FoF for a full hour. I was mentally prepared to deal with it. And now it happens without even the slightest disruption. That is highly unfair! It should have been an eventful moment we could still look back on months from now and tell heroic tales about how we survived this ordeal. It could have separated the boys from the men!
