Fulham sign Lecomte

The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Benjamin Lecomte from French side Montpellier.

An experienced goalkeeper with 329 Ligue 1 appearances to his name, Lecomte has signed a two-year deal, tying him to Craven Cottage until the summer of 2027.

Speaking to FFCtv after signing, Lecomte said: "I'm really, really happy and proud to join Fulham because it's a new step in my career and I think it will be really nice to be part of the Club."

Tony Khan added: "I am excited to welcome Benjamin Lecomte to Fulham until at least 2027.

"He is a talented goalkeeper with valuable experience, including more than 300 appearances in Ligue 1, and his arrival will further strengthen the team and add depth to Marco's squad, as we prepare for next season in the Premier League!

"Welcome, Benjamin! Come on Fulham!"

After a handful of appearances as a youngster for his parent club Lorient, Lecomte's first taste of regular first team football came while on loan with Dijon in 2013/14, helping the club finish sixth in Ligue 2 with 14 clean sheets in his 31 appearances.

That form saw him establish himself as first choice at Lorient upon his return, missing just one game over the next two seasons as they successfully maintained their top-flight status.

A solitary point relegated Lorient in 2016/17, but Lecomte remained a Ligue 1 player by signing for Montpellier, whom he represented 79 times across the next two seasons as they finished 10th and 6th.

A move to Monaco followed, though 18 months of his contracted years there were spent on loan in Spain with Atletico Madrid and Espanyol, respectively. The highlight of his time in Monaco will have been his 13 clean sheets in 28 outings as they finished third in Ligue 1.

In January 2023, Lecomte made a return to Montpellier, where he has been first choice ever since, ending his time at the club as captain last season. His career record to date reads: 402 appearances, 114 clean sheets.

Lecomte has been capped by France up to Under-20 level, and has spent time in the senior squad in the past.

Very important signing for us imo.

We've flirted with disaster having Benda as our back up the last two seasons. We just got lucky that he was never needed.

The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Tabby

Sorry Angus, we were consistent with last year  ::wink::

Trust him more than Benda and didn't seem to cost a lot. Not expecting anything huge though.

Lighthouse

Experienced Keeper that can only strengthen the squad. There are no drawbacks at all to this.

Agree with all of this except it was only last season that Benda was our back up. Rodak was still around in 23-24.

Great signing! Although he had some bright moments, Benda never filled me with confidence. Lecomte is someone who I'd trust to do a decent job at least in any game he plays.

Coastwalker

Can see him taking over the No 1 Spot.🤔

Do you think Marco would take that gamble? Very thorough manager Marco.

A good signing.

I think Benda's is better than some suggest but his biggest issue was not being able to play regularly and gaining experience at the top level.

I doubt it will happen now for him but he can fight for a place in a championship team and we have improved the number 2 spot!

Everyone wins!

I think Marco is, but we don't know if he was happy with Benda or not. Him being moved on suggests perhaps not.

Might have been an option he was left with by the club? Speculating here as no way of knowing.

A good signing and an upgrade to benda as a back up gk. maybe he can put some pressure on Leno for the no1 spot too.
