Palace?

Didn't Glasner reportedly block the Guehi transfer? In the end, both will leave Crystal Palace and they'll get significantly less money then they would have got if they sold him in the summer.

And then what ? How far down do you go for the top clubs, and if you say the top four, then what happens when the next lot become the top four, do they then become out of reach for lower teams, I don't know the answer.

Tbh, I hope that doesn't happen.  And yes, I know how unfair and unbalanced this league is.  Maybe, just maybe, the FA can get their act together and make some changes that does level things.  But, even if that doesn't happen, I still find intriguing the David v Goliath aspect of games played in this league.  And in recent years, we've seen clubs other than top 4/6 make inroads into top table positions.  Both ManU and Spurs have been recently tumbling.  Many times you see lower table teams give the top dogs a run in games, sometimes maybe losing, but just barely by a single tally.  And I rather enjoy and look forward to FFC matches v the top clubs, especially recently under MS's tenure, always with a feeling we can get something from these type of games.

Silva has been offered one so sign it or confirm you're off. Don't think that is too difficult to understand even for someone whose English is as bad now as it was 4 years ago.
Apparently he was and told Steve Parish three months ago he wouldn't sign it but they kept it quiet. Says he'll do his absolute best for Palace until the end of the season but that he wants a new challenge. Probably pissed off with the amount of players that they're losing and I can't say I blame him.

Don't think that will make a spark of difference, they'll still have scouts at the Prem games when a player catches their eye, and their grass will be even more greener (or super-greener one might say).

Personally, I don't feel this SL will ever come off, as fans will leave in droves when they find they cannot afford to travel and prices space-rocket (higher than the sky by reference).
Logical is just in the name - don't expect it has anything to do with my thought process, because I AM the man who sold the world.

The Palace board makes interesting reading with some ire directed at their chairman Steve Parish. I can't believe the figures they are quoting of him receiving £2.5m per annum salary are anywhere true?

On the one hand I can understand why he's mad at losing his top players. On the other hand, you can't compete as a small club unless you sell players for a profit and replace them (hopefully) wisely.

And yes, if they lose Mateta too, the wheels are fully off. Proper West Ham behaviour from them, losing all their goalscoring, creativity (Eze and Olise), the core of their defence and their manager over the space of two seasons.

If that was us, I'd be so, so despondent.

The owners don't give a single toss about the local fans. They care about the rich fans in Saudi or wherever who can afford £1k+ hospitality packages.

It's replacing them that's the problem!

It progressively got like this over a number of years . Clubs like palace and us and Brentford for that matter are it seems not allowed to have super players they get snatched by the big boys with money to burn . In today's era we would never have hung on to Johnny hanynes like we did . The money they're offered is massively life changing .

the money players are on at Palace or Fulham is life changing. But it's never enough for some

I agree - they earn more in one year than many earn in a lifetime of working. I am not sure how they can spend it all but still it seems they demand more and more which only the very biggest clubs can afford. We will never break into that elite 6 or so teams it seems to me. Spuds are 14th in the league but can still splash £35m out for an average footballer

Never understood this point. They should actively seek less money? What a weird world you must live in. There are plenty of crooked bankers and crooked politicians making more money but you point your finger at football players cause they don't have blind allegiance to a "small" club.... Weird man

FA Cup winners to this in the space of 8 short months.

Talk about catastrophic success.

I am not weird or at least my friends don't think I am - read my point. I have made no comment on the level of their wages nor them seeking less money. I said these players demand more and more and only the biggest clubs can afford their demands. That is self evident meaning that FFC are always going to be playing second fiddle to the big six. Its progressively worse for clubs lower down the league, whilst at the grass roots level clubs scrimp and save just to exist. It just doesn't seem right to me as someone who has an interest at grass roots club level as well as being a FFC fan

I have to say, I do feel a bit sorry for their fans. They've had their best season in history and now they'll seemingly lose a lot of their key players and the manager that brought them success. Maybe they'll recruit well, but I'd be very disappointed if the same thing happened to Fulham.

ScalleysDad

I might have dreamt it but are Palace not on more points than at this time last season minus two key players. They will probably survive this season and already know what Plans A,B and C are for next season which may quite possibly start from Monday after the events of this week with a rebuild chest full of cash. Not a hopeless place to be at all really. Us on the other hand ..............

Quote from: bog on January 16, 2026, 02:18:41 PMPalace fans must be sick of it all. Let's be honest, a club of their stature shouldn't have beaten one of the top clubs in Europe to win in the FA Cup and have such a strong squad as they have. It's not right. Oh and they shouldn't have had such a good manager.

Their supporters do have my sympathy.

Brighton go through this every year, become Chelsea feeder club. Bournemouth lost all their best players this year too. Meanwhile Man Utd can afford to burn through money without any need to win things.

Us on the other hand have only sold two players in recent seasons that we'd have preferred to keep.

But they both wanted to leave (one for money and the other for sporting reasons) so rather than let them run their contracts down and be open to ridicule by the fan base "how could the board possibly let Mitro and Palhinha leave for free" the club cashed in and have since twice made club-record signings.

I know which fan base I'd rather be amongst ............

When I saw the Sky articles today it reminded me of us after the Europa run. Same kind of feeling.

Seems to happen to most clubs that flirt with success. Soon as they make it to that top 6 they get their team and manager poached. In some ways not quite breaking into that yet is what's helped us largely keep what we have in Marco and our squad.

Expect if we manage to reach Europe that well see plenty of the talent that got us there nicked. King, Bassey, ESR, Kevin , Muniz, these are all prime targets for being nicked if we and they do well.

Really is hard to break into the top 8 club and stay there. Credit to villa for managing to keep that momentum moving for now.  Their creative accounting and playing the same dirty games as the likes of Chelsea and city with all their violations is seemingly the only way
