Quote from: Somerset Fulham on January 29, 2026, 10:38:22 AMStrand Larsen is off to Palace for £45m apparently.

I just don't get why clubs are so willing to pay so much for this guy. I must be missing something.

50 including add-ons

Mad.
1 goal in 21 btw.
Appreciate that he's scored a decent amount last year but I must be missing something too as never blown away by him

And that 1 goal was a penalty.

Biereth was with our youth, was very good prospect & he jumped ship to Arsenal before signing pro with us.

Still only 22. Maybe get him back instead of Pepi  ::wink::

Did look a very good prospect for us.

Mitrovic was significantly better than him. The margin is huge actually.

According to the PL site:
Mitrovic 129 Apps, 38 goals, 11 assists
Strand Larsen 56 App, 15 goals, 5 assists

So no, the margin isn't huge actually.

But what I really meant is their physical attributes, the difficulty it causes defenders and the kinds of areas they score from.

Strand Larsen has 1 goal in 21 PL games  (a penalty) this season and you want to say the gulf between him and Mitro isn't huge?

I've heard it all now.

I think one  would probably point to Mitro's international exploits and general impact on the club to be fair which were huge in comparison, granted Larson is somewhat blocked by another Norweigan but still at club level he's had one solid purple patch in a season, where Mitro was a huge player for us over an extended period - (though he unfortunatley had to endure life under Parker in the prem 😅)

I do think just from the eye test the gap is pretty significant. BUT I get ya point about just being physical and tricky to deal with. Although I'd also bank on Mitro to outmuscle Strand, something about that Serbian Spirit was a different animal.

Apart from being ambitious and receiving an offer from Arsenal which offered him a career path Biereth was in the shadow of Stansfield . He was told that he would quickly become their number three striker but for some reason it didn't work out. There is no way that he would come back.

I regard it all now.

This year his side will finish last by a huge margin, it's pointless looking at that in isolation.

You could have looked at Mitrovic's stats after our dire 20/21 season and said the same thing.

You could maybe which is your right but I couldn't say the same thing when I'm looking at their respective PL careers to date.

SL had a purple patch last season but has gone AWAL this season.

Mitro was totally mismanaged by Parker and then went from strength to strength under Marco improving every season. Playing Cav upfront instead of Mitro was an error that just about everyone could see except Parker.

SL has gone backwards.

From SkySport;
Fulham also want to add a young striker and a midfielder. They have been in talks with PSV Eindhoven for striker Ricardo Pepi and Udinese for midfielder Arthur Attra.

Also Keiron Bowie travelling to Hellas Verona for a medical following an increased offer of £6 million to Hibs. Fulham reported to have a 20% sell on clause included after selling to Hibs for £600K.

Still think we're not going to get another CM and the plan is to retread Bobb into an 8. Seems like he can navigate traffic pretty well while holding onto the ball which is kinda what we're missing in the midfield. Give us more press resistance in that area and he's played a significant minority if his games as either an attacking midfielder or a right midfielder.

He's a 5'8 winger, there's no chance he can play as a CM in the premier league because he hasn't got the physical presence

It's definately a possibility, he rotates between wide and more central. We'll see what Marco thinks. There was alot of rumblings from City fans etc that he has said in past he likes/prefers to play more central. He has all the raw attributes that would make sense as an 8 ball carrier in theory.

High quality dribbling
Ability to beat the press
Good at passing in tight spaces
Strong on the ball for his size

I could see it making sense. Suspect we'll get a better idea of what Silvas thinking when we hear questions on Bobb from the press conference later this week.

If we only had Adama as an outgoing, whilst bringing in Pepi, Atta, and Bobb, then it'd be a very good window.

Though concious we've a few players out of contract at the end of this window, so we're back to playing catch up again on our squad to a degree.

Sess, Raul, Wilson, Chuk are a significant part of our attacking output this season.. We need to tie down 2 minimum, and ideally at least three.

As an example see Jeremy Doku's assists last night in the CL.
First as classical left winger beating a defender first on the wing before the assist.
The second appearing amongst traffic in the centre circle and sending a beautiful pass for Haaland to run onto.
Like Bobb a smallish winger who can beat a defender or two before passing.
If Bobb can emulate Doku's performance last night for City on a regular basis - happy days indeed are ahead.
Highly regarded by City supporters apparently, but have questioned if he can regain the form he showed before his bad leg break.
My concern would be similar to Robinson's form since he came back from leg surgery!

We have an option on Sess's contract to extend by a year and an option to make Chucky permanent so not a huge concern on either I would say

Sometimes the case but depends on how good his other attributes are. Can be possible at the 8 for a player like Bobb. He has top-level technical ability on the ball. There are some players that height that are probably too lightweight, but must say Bobb is suprisingly strong on the ball and hard to disposess. Plenty of central mid players his height or smaller - you just have to have top level attributes outside of that for it to work:

Wilshere, Schneider, Modric, Iniesta, Verratti, Santi Corzola, Steed. etc etc.

Not really a worry but we do need to start getting ahead of these contract situations in the future. Let it get close enough to expiring and the players and their agents start dreaming of large signing on bonuses. Tosin, Tete and Wilson have all been issues in just the last couple years.

So no, the margin isn't huge actually.

But what I really meant is their physical attributes, the difficulty it causes defenders and the kinds of areas they score from.

Mitro played his first PL season as a teenager at a relegated Newcastle side. He then played for two different relegated Fulham teams. I.E. 3/4 seasons he played for relegated teams. That skews the stats. He was also borderline abused by Parker in one of those seasons.

Mitro in his best PL season got 14 goals in 24 matches. JSL also got 14, but in 35 matches. Mitro's worst PL season (the one under Parker) he had 3 goals and 3 assists in 27 matches (14 of which were sub appearances, i.e. more than half of his appearances). JSL in his worst PL season has 1 goal and 1 assist in 21 appearance (7 of which were from the bench, i.e. 2/3 were as a starter).

Their international records aren't even comparable, Mitro is up there with the very best all time international goalscorers, JSL is nowhere near it. Mitro had the record breaking Championship season. Mitro's got a more impressive youth career, etc. I could go on and on, but he's just simply better.

Also, we sold Mitro after a very good season, they sold JSL after a season in which he scored 1 in 21.
