Snibbo

If we buy him he's crap / pants pulled down / not worth it / reject / second best / overhyped / waste of money etc. etc.

Quote from: SerbianLad on February 01, 2026, 11:45:28 PMI still think we shouldn't take a risk on Pepi. We're not a "big 6" club, so we can't spend virtually unlimited amounts of money. We need to spend smart. We've already gambled with Kevin and Bobb(and to a lesser extent ESR), I don't think we should make another big money signing of a young, somewhat unproven player. And that's on top of the things that I've already mentioned numerous times in various threads here.

I'd reevaluate in summer.

Seems they are very strong on Pepi. He's clearly been seen as a top target across the board for ages for them to be pushing as persistently as they have.

If they're sure then they're sure and theyve presumably seen enough to be convinced.

It's definitely a big roll for the dice and I respect the boldness, and fortunately were established enough and have spent frugally enough to splash a bit seemingly.

I like the Pepi move but it is a big risk one. With world cup though prices could well go ballistic for players we want this summer so perhaps they're also considering/anticipating that. Also...were in a genuine position to try and qualify for Europe this year...so maybe that's why theyre willing to go all out

An exciting , bold, if a little terrifying moment...but hey , were going for it

Yeah, also we can say things like he shouldn't miss a chance, or we shouldn't have to wait for him to adjust if he cost X amount.

I have a good feeling about it, the striker market is a total mess and hard to judge. For points of comparison: Arokadare was €26m, Beto €25m, Thierno Barry €30m, Evanilson €37m, Larsen £45m.

Absolutely brutal market out there. The fee is clearly on the high side, but I'm encouraged by the very specific profiling of him here and it feeling so deliberate. The injury record is the major gamble.

Just grabbed that figure via transfermarkt but you're right that other places have reported it higher so figure might be wrong.

Just putting it out there, we paid similar money for Smith Rowe and he hasn't exactly set our world on fire tbh.

sarnian

Call me cynical but just wonder if all this talk about Pepi is a red herring and we are actually talking to somebody else.

Essentially when he recently, and only just recently, started playing 90 mins regularly, before his arm broke, he was scoring a goal a game (aged 23).

I appreciate people when they say its the eeridivisie, but R9 started there too, and a decent amount of others have gone on to excel

Re Evanilson the €37m excluded add ons, €47m including them. The Beto figure was €30m, and Barry €35m. Larsen fee quoted as €50m without add ons, €55m included.

The €37m Pepi deal doesn't clarify how much is up front vs add ons.

As Ray Rock says with a strong athletic player Iwobi whilst a fine footballer with the ball without it he is so weak in the tackle which often leaves us vulnerable to the break.

Ray Rock?  Has he ever posted just one complimentary comment about Fulham and their management on this or any other board. Just treat him with the disdain he deserves.

Everyone is allowed to get something right! I did in 1998.

Re Pepi, he is quite quick it seems and has scored goals albeit at a lower level than the premier league. 37 million euros seems a lot but then strikers cost money, we all know we need a striker so if it happens let's we should remember it isn't the player that chooses the fee.

PSV wanted 45 million euros earlier, so seems we have found a middle ground, the fact the quoted a price to me says they have targets in mind, would be silly on their behalf not to have irons in fires as these things cam happen.

Fingers crossed for this and a midfielder

ffc73

The price we are being quoted is probably the going rate nowadays.  It just demonstrates how difficult it is for us to complete.  Would we have a Sesko on the bench to come on for a Cunha?

As been said before in this thread by others, the Pepi deal could be agreed & he joins us in the summer.

Liverpool appear to have done this.  From BBC, "Liverpool have agreed a £60m deal for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet - but the centre-half will not be joining the club in the current transfer window."  This 20-year old defender is unproven too.  Big bucks and every signing is a risk.

fulhamfever

Sometimes people look at prices and expect them to be prime Ronaldinho (yeah Barca only paid £21 Million for him).

In the Prem buying a player for big money does not equal value.

Richarlison, Solanke and Tel at Spurs combined cost 150 million yet have not set the prem alight.

It's just business
