Expectations

Seeing the reactions of certain posters on this forum whenever we win or lose a game, it made me realise that Fulham fans clearly have very different expectations of where they think we should be as a club.

Personally, I'm quite happy with the way things are going. To be in the position we're currently in - a stable Premier League club, playing (mostly) attractive football, able to pretty much beat (or lose against!) any team on our day, with an owner who genuinely seems to want the best for the club and a manager who has developed a close-knit, harmonious squad and is able to develop players and get the best from them - as a Fulham fan, I have to admit I'm very happy with how things are going.

However, it's clear not everyone thinks the same way - so what are your expectations for Fulham?

Are you happy with us being a stable top half Premier League club or does not qualifying for Europe represent failure to you?

Do you think we should be winning Cups and titles or are you just happy to support Fulham, regardless of what division we're in?

We all obviously have different views on this, so I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

I'm happy to be a Premier League team comfortably away from relegation. A push towards Europe would be great, but I don't really expect it and won't get too upset either way. It is a nice dream that feels somewhat attainable.

Been going almost thirty years and I'm just happy to be a fan really, whatever division we're in.

Agree with your assessment on enjoying how the squad seems harmonious and the style is good.

I'm a Fulham supporter - I literally have no expectations.... I'm just happy having a relatively stable club....

What I've seen at Fulham in the distant & not to distant past has been a mixture of happy & very turbulent....

I'm happy for it to be a bit boring, I'm yet to see the New finished Riverside stand - I remember the old Riverside Stand being built & thought that was pretty smart, but always stood in the Putney end.

So, nope I don't really have any expectations, but I still love a win against that lot up the road

Yup

As a Fulham fan for 30+ years my "expectations" are fairly measured and realistic, taking into account our history and realities of the clubs financial limitations.

I don't necessarily "expect" anything other than football to be cyclical and a rollercoaster, as that's what's materialised for most clubs in my life watching football.

That said

My dreams and hopes are are of course European football and a cup win, and to even be currently up there competing for these things is about as successful as this clubs ever been bar one season, so "expecting" it seems setting oneself up for misery 😅 . Im so glad we got to be alive in a time when Fulham managed a European final, and would love to see us there again. Even qualifying would be a massive achievement for us.

What I consider very good for Fulham is top 10. It's happened only a fraction of times ever.

What I think is doing well for a club like us is being competitive and staying well clear of relegation.

What id be gutted with is relegation of course and it's always frustrating...but even then I live in the knowledge that some of my favourite memories watching fulham have come in the championship so it's not the end of the world. I respect that the prem is the toughest most competitive league in the world, and we have no god given right to be in it historically. So enjoy seeing us beating clubs with way more resources and much bigger fanbases.

I would LOVE to win something one day,I want us always to do our best to achieve it, but it's Fulham, whatever happens, enjoy the good times when they come.  ::scarf::

Been a supporter since 1956. Only missed 3 home games between 1982 and 1999 when i stopped going after i retired in 1998. Came with Roy Bentley and could have been a Chelsea supporter if that had not happened. The thought of having a million tattoos and walking a Rottweiler every day fills me with horror.
Thankyou Fulham for many years of ups and downs wouldn't change it for the world also, thank you all Fofers for our wonderful forum. We don't always agree but we all have FFC in our hearts.

The expectations of many Fulham fans is insane and this partly due to having a very rich owner, but under FFP having a rich owner (like Crystal Palace) and having very very rich owners (like Fulham) is basically the same (ie they invest £35m per year to cover players wages).

Since the 2018 promotion, only Aston Villa and Brentford have leap frogged us. The former Aston Villa has more gate receipts and sponsorship, while the later Brentford isn't far ahead and frankly there are a half dozen teams that have done worse than us with investment.

Things couldn't have got any worse than when we had to suffer the deliriously odd behaviour exhibited by Magath that almost cost us our Championship status.

How he was appointed was one of the worst decisions ever made by Khan.
Thankfully, things are more stable, however the summer could be interesting with the noise around Silva.

Magath was awful!

Personally I would like to see a much more defined stratagy from the owners as to where the club intends to be, and that we work towards that, I expect the fans have varying expectations because the club are not exactly clear about its stratagy. Have been going since 1994, so expectations of winning something are quite muted, but languising as a top of the bottom half premier league team is sometimes a bit boring. I often think that I enjoyed the Championship far more

As a supporter I don't really ' expect' anything from my team ( other than always being professional)  . For me supporting is about ' hope ' and invariably that leads to wanting to see improvement.
Would I support the team no matter what division we are in? - of course I would.

Carborundum

I expect to visit the Cottage 17 or 18 times a season and see a competitive game of football, the outcome of which varies.  Each game serves up six hours of escapism involving two walks along the bank of a remarkable stretch of river.

Asymmetrically, I'll shrug off the defeats and get on with life, but bask in the victories for days. I expect to see things done with a football that are astonishing, bravery in good measure and I'll shake my head at the human frailties played out in front of me.  I won't be able to see everything unfurling on the pitch, choosing where to look.  And when the end of the season comes, I'll be looking forward to the next one.

Inflated expectations about finishing positions and trophies tend not to end well.  The asymmetry works against people who have them.  Success is merely the fulfilling of an obligation, anything less and it's a source of bitterness.  There's a better way to be.

My expectation for this season is quite simple, and that's to see my team walk out at Wembley for the FA Cup Final,
Beat Stoke and get a favourable draw and I really think we can do it.

Dream = Europe and cup win but I don't expect we'll ever manage the latter. I am generally quite positive about where we are as a club

Unfortunately looks pretty certain that Brentford are going to finally do it this season which makes us not doing it much harder to accept! They should win the conference league, too

Agree I think they will, they are just willing to push the dial that bit more and take a risk

I think it is quite defined... stabilise the club, then buy/bring in young talent...ESR, Kevin, Muniz, King, Bobb to try & push on

I would like a bit more detail than that, I have seen the above mentioned a few times, quite woolly as a stratagy, and no time lines etc. Are we on track? Are we now stabilised? Quite possibly form a league perspective, certainly not a manager perspective. The Khan's would do well to outline things a bit clearer

Having followed Fulham since the 1960s, I have learnt to control my expectations. That way, I am never disappointed.

Exactly the same as me - however when we have p1ssed all over a team in the first half as on Saturday, I have an expectation that this will carry on in the second half and we will go on to win the game and not throw it away. I should probably know better after 69 years of supporting our club!
