If you're taking 5 CBs, I'd take him for his experience and leadership qualities alone. He's been playing well since he got back in the Man Utd team and did well in recent England games.

He's done more to earn it than Stones and Colwill

I'd take him. He's been playing well, is a real threat at set pieces and I don't think we can rely on Stones who has hardly played and has repeated injury issues and Colwill who has only recently returned from a long term ACL injury. First choice probably Konsa and Guehi but Maguire is good back up in the circumstances.

Being reported that both Foden and Palmer are not included in the squad.

Agree with Foden as he's had a ridiculous number of chances but has never delivered for England, but as much as I hate Chelsea I can't agree with not taking Palmer. Even if he's dropped off he still has it in him to produce results, not just for Chelsea but in the Euro final.

What does Sess have to do to get into the England squad? I guarantee if he was in Arsenal or City, he'd have gotten a call up by now.

Henderson is the epitome of what bores me about watching England. When I see england managers STILL bringing him on I eye roll immediately. So unremarkable, so dull, so unexciting.

I gather he's a good dressing room influence, but it's not like he's been the backbone of a winning England team and utterly mental to take him over Wharton or MGW

Toney I can understand to be fair. Top scorer in Saudi, crap as it is, and proven in england as a goal threat of which we have few after Kane

It's a no from me, too slow. That being said, if it's between him and Burn, he gets the nod.

The bigger shock would be if the excellent Lewis Hall is left behind, he completely neutralised Lamine Yamal and looked good in his England cameo too.

I think Tuchel will have looked at our last tournament, where it was a very young squad and we struggled. Doesn't mean he's tight but that will be the reason. I for one would definitely take Wharton, perfect back up for Anderson.

I can see the logic, he's a good target man and great penalty taker. Watkins isn't so good with his back to goal. Toney will be third choice striker.

The recent warm up games were awful to watch, but demonstrated that this England team have to have a classic centre forward on the pitch.  Quite right, and we are taking three it seems.

Henderson must be one heck of character in the dressing room.  Adam Wharton and Morgan Gibbs-White are much better players.

Overall, it's a sensible squad.  Tuchel should have a much better idea of which players are carrying knocks, which work well together, who brings the right energy.  He's no respecter of reputations.

If we need a goal, he's going to have a bench including in-form Watkins, Madueke, one of Rashford or Gordon, one of Eze or Rodgers.  That's a decent set of choices against a tiring opponent.  If it's going to pens, he's got Toney to take one.

All but one of the teams are going to come unstuck, the trick is to have a plan, do nothing stupid (being light on centre forwards would have been) and hope for a bit of luck and a team that gels over the next few weeks. 

If I have a concern it's that Anderson and Rice might be a bit too similar to play together well.  It's right they both go, but Wharton is different to either of them.  Selfishly, I just like watching Wharton play.

Maguire's childish reaction to missing out is exactly why he should miss out. He has a huge ego that is completely misaligned with his quality at this point, which would be a big problem in a 5th choice CB.

Watkins is in form in a much tougher league.

It's like Serbia relying on mitro when he was with us and he was banging goals in and making a difference, vs when Serbia went to the world cup after mitro had moved to Saudi and Mitro hardly/may have not even, scored a goal. The standards are so drastically different still, that they can't compare. Mitro was the top scorer in Saudi, or up there as one of.

Now he's playing in Qatar or something silly.. Toney being up against the best defenders isn't a reliable option off the  bench, especially if doing so when it matters.

Watkins should definitely be on the plane
