Unrelated, but I thought he was amazing at WC. Never heard of him and he was easily one of the top 5-10 midfielders in the whole tournament.

Good bargain that. Barely makes it worth selling him tbh

But yeah, we have put ourselves in this position yet again. Sell players earlier or extend their contracts, how hard can it be for a DoF? Its not the first time.
Not that Id ever thought we'd make a profit off of Diop but getting a decent fee would have been nice.
But as someone mentioned: he is on 70k, had a good wc and his next contract is likely to be the contract in which he can get most money out of - which ideally is not at Fulham considering his age and position in the CB hierarchy.

So 8 mil is a shame, but if keeping him means giving him a pay rise then its a no for me
Its not just the transfer fee its getting him of the wage bill to finance a replacement
And thats why I think we should sell him, as I wrote

Because they are a tiny shitty club that has no say when bigger clubs come knocking?

Agreed I've wanted him massively since Afcon where he looked absolutely brilliant- and we were linked back then - he was discussed here then, but he was linked to chelsea and a few others so assumed we wouldn't get him. So surprised he hasn't gone to a bigger club than Fiorentina tbh. Think he's gonna cost someone alot of money in 2 years. He is small in stature which might be why people haven't taken the punt at this stage. But looks hugely talented to me

I Ronic

Would we sell unless we had a replacement in place?
Unless announcing a new signing devalues Diops worth, clubs knowing he's surplus to requirements etc?
Or am I over thinking it. This is Fulham after all.

Looks like Nwaiwu is all sorted which kind of makes sense given the Diop news breaking this morning

Might have taken a bit less on Diop to get more upfront to pay for this chap

Still interested in Balogun it seems

If the price is true, that's a no brainer to me. In a world where you would pay 30 million plus for Pepi, you certainly should be willing to go to 40 for Balogun.

I'd imagine he commands higher wages than Pepi but it doesn't look so high it would not fit in the team structure.

Balogun seems more like a TK signing than AA

We've been interested in Balogun since he left arsenal while Silva was here.

Almost a targets were and have been cleared and agreed on by all parties involved. So even if it's first brought up by TK or manager, or scouts...they still have the be agreed to be a good target by all involved. It's been said all pre-existing targets have been run by AA for his feedback

Only occasions that have been specifically pointed out to be different was moves like Muniz where we didn't have much data on him but trusted Marcos strong feelings on him. Imagine similar will go for the young Madrid kids

a quarter finalist in the world cup where he was a key player, and an international with Morocco - He wasn't either of those when he signed with us, his value should've increased. I think he's worth more than 10m euros, even with 1 year left - he's only 29 after all
A bit like your house or car General, you'll only get what someone is prepared to pay. I think getting 70,000 a week of the books is more important than the fee for the club.

If we sign Balogun will we also sign Trump to get his red and yellow cards rescinded?

I tend to agree it does look like that. However I am also thinking maybe coaches at Madrid are used to getting players bought and put in their squad without much say in which player is signed, they just say we need a striker of this stature etc. Again I don't know either way a snot working in ether club but I am sure I read somewhere that teams in Europe normally operate that way.

Again

Every interview done by the club for many years now, has said, explicitly, that the club operates a multi tick system whereby the manager, scout team + dof & stats team sign off on players.

There is little to no reason to believe that it is or will be any different with AA. Until told otherwise- We know how our club operates as they've told us multiple times over in interviews.

In Nwaiwus case - We were linked to this player prior to Silva's departure which means Marco will have signed off on him and, from all reports from the likes of FFN...Arbeloa has been consulted for weeks on our transfer plans and what he wants. As part of this he almost certainly will have been consulted on our pre-existing list and invited to watch tape and assess targets together...as has been clearly stated our previous managers were.

So whichever department first pointed out the target(stats/scout/manager/did) it will have passed through all departments for assessment. However they run things in europe I don't know, but that's the set up at Fulham

Yes we do, but given AA's only recent appointment it may seem it is a TK signing. I was just wondering if he would be used to that sort of type of signing if they operated that way at Madrid for example. I also think I read we were willing to give Marco control over transfers or at least an even bigger say when we were offering him new contracts recently.

JimmyConway

Just said on wireless Alex Scott of Bournemouth has told the club he is not going to renew his contract which still has two years left to go! These players have all the power along with their agents and holding teams ransom. Bournemouth now in all likeliness forced to sell this summer and these top teams go around whispering sweet nothings to players. We have moaned about players in last year of contract but first time I have heard of a player with two years left indicating he is not going to sign a new deal. There will be an argument his letting Bournemouth get a good fee now but this looks to me the player and agent forcing the clubs hand but will hide behind whatever the transfer fee is to escape the flak.

I'm saying FFN who has links at the club, and other sources fwiw, have been saying AA has been consulting with Fulham for some time about transfer targets, even before being announced.

And we were linked to Nwaiwu before Silva had left. So he was already a target under previous manager. However they operate in spain, I've little doubt AA will be invited to be a significant part of the process just as other managers were. Whoever makes the first suggestion - all targets are assessed and agreed to by all parties ultimately.

The club reportedly have been willing to give Marco the benefit of the doubt if he felt strongly enough about a player, even if they didn't have enough stats or scouting data (see Muniz) and we're already seeing AA's wishes being pursued with the young kids at madrid so seems likely a similar set up as ever.

Angus Telford

I'd be interested to know the scouting history for Nwaiwu considering he was available 6 months ago for about £25m less than we're now going to pay for him

Its unbelieveable Fiorentina signed both him and Atta.

So it seems Nwaiwu is on his way in but knowing how our club does business that could mean another 10 days at least before he's on the training pitch!

As for any other new recruits, (and we do need several) do you think we will be surprised by 2 or 3 incoming's out of the blue  and soon or will it be the usual late late arrivals?
