Linked with this guy at CM. Looks lively and a great athletic profile. Still in the mix for Cestero though apparently, waiting to see if Real can bring in a midfielder before sanctioning his move.

Would be a good signing...but didn't we just sign Shea for that spot.   We're heavy in the midfield unless we're moving on from...ESR.

Charles is more a 6 historically, this guy is more an 8.

We still interested in another CM - we wanted Pitarch originally remember before that got squashed - Cestero is the preferred option now it seems, but down to Real Madrid sanctioning a move if they get another midfielder apparently.

This means Palacios presumably moves more advanced or wide or they simply rotate ...I don't think Tom Cairney really suits this team anymore given the high pressm so doesn't surprise me Arbeloa is keen on younger legs in the middle. Especially with Iwobi looking questionable at times in this new system too

I just saw on skysports website that Reiss Nelson has left Arsenal by mutual consent. If we cannot get whoever our prime target is, I don't think bringing him in on a Willian type deal would be a bad idea. He knows the clubs and players and I think it's going to be fairly low risk for us.

Thought he was off to West Ham last I read
Hamstrings made of silly string sadly as he has alot of talent. You'd only take him on for pay as you play at prem level and even then he's taking up a squad space when likelihood is he ends up out for most of the season - simply can not stay fit

Yeah I remember when he was with us, had a great game looked like a real talent and about 30 seconds before he was about to be subbed off he went down clutching his hamstring. If he was fit and the wage package was reasonable it might be worth considering. Ideally we would get someone who is more established

I really think we need a new goalie this window

I wonder if, maybe, the thinking behind giving 3 Academy keepers squad numbers (Borto, Allen, Kaiser) is that we squeeze a bit more out of Leno until one of our own is deemed ready.

Too late for that Id say. This should have been addressed at the start of the window,  not a couple of days before it closes.

New goalie will easily cost us 25m + and we would/should offload Leno somewhere, which isnt easy (without us looking desperate to get rid off him).
Add that to our other recruitments.

These things should be thought out before the last week of the window

Quote from: Coast94 on August 27, 2026, 01:55:54 PMOk getting a little worried now. All seems extremely quiet. We need at least 3 in before the deadline.
Dont worry. A lot of clubs would panic but we excel in trolley dashing. I expect 3 players minimum on D-day alone, mostly loanees, maybe getting one permanent signing in before that.

So yeah, 4 players is a piece of cake if we are desperate enough
This isn't giving me quite the reassurance I'd like, though Joe Bryan was great after we'd put behind us the small matter of relegation with just 26 points.
Yeah me neither, I was only joking. Our way of doing business is not the way id prefer us to

One day we may get all our business done in good time instead of always leaving stuff last minute. This summer promised so much, but three deals is still a bit short of what we need.

Fingers crossed TK has some genuine surprises up his sleeve

Unlikely to ever happen given our size and resource restrictions

We have addressed the major problem positions with plenty time to spare bar RCB, which tbf isn't for lack of want or trying.

Naturally as per Leeds chairmen clubs like ours will leave powder dry to later in the window as players will become available to us that weren't previous and you need to be ready to pounce - which I can see makes sense, particularly on positions that aren't emergencies. Just the nature of the game tbh.

We have been making multiple 25m+ offers for CBs for best part of last month and a half apparently. But outside of that aren't really positions we desperately need enough to not explore what becomes more affordable or possible later it seems.

Indeed, fingers crossed, but frankly I'm less on edge about this than some others... plenty times we've made numerous purchases in the last week and/or 48 hrs. More than doable imo and plenty rumbles about players we're in continued talks with agents wise. As per Leeds chairman on the end of the transfer window 'nothing like a good old deadline to get things moving' or words to that effect.

Fulham aren't getting a CB for less than 40 million.   Apparently Chelsea are about to bring in an 18 year old CB for that amount...and the kid is currently above average at best.

I've given up believing the legitimacy of almost all Chelsea purchases at this point.

I think we can find something for 30m + addons with strict stipulations. keeping all fingers crossed

Our resource restrictions exist regardless of the window, doesn't mean we can't plan ahead and get our business done early. Why did we sell Diop when we didn't have a replacement guaranteed or almost through the door? We're exposed unnecessarily. Take it that we may just disagree on the approach. I appreciate that occasionally we may get a decent deal on the last day, but often it feels rushed and bringing in players for the sake of it, instead of because they add real quality to us.

Well I guess something to do with not wanting to sign a new contract, so it was sell or let go on a free.

Could be multiple reasons, we didn't do it in the case of Lukic for example - his replacement Charles was in shortly after, so it's not an every-time thing.

Diop was the second-choice CB in this instance
1. We looked like we were tying up Nwaiwu deal, player liking posts left right and centre, being told x is the offer that will do it, by Trabzonspor - offering that expecting to seal the deal, only for them to pull the rug out as well as rumour of an additional new agent creating further suprises. Perhaps you can call that naive, but we don't know the time constraint on the offer from diop...Sometimes it works out, like with Shea Charles, sometimes it doesn't. Imagine almost all clubs will say this has happened to them before.

2. Ipswich may well have said look we can't keep waiting for this Nwaiwu deal - we're moving on if he's not available to come now, and we went, ok...we got enough time to replace, we got Nwaiwu all but in the door, let's secure the money and allow the player to move on to his new club. We may all think clubs would be chomping at the bit to sign him personally, but in reality we don't know if there was a rabid market for Issa the player was happy to move to, and we were happy with what we were offered + the player clearly wanted the move so off he went.

Also - Presumably, his wages off the books amount to about half a million we haven't spent since moving (80k x 6 weeks) can understand they weren't keen to keep training with and paying that, for a player we had no intention on keeping.

It's easy for us to judge without the full scope of what goes on internally but for me whilst it wasn't ideal I can see a perfectly reasonable reason for why it's played out as it has.

2 of the 3 players we brought in on Deadline day we had been in discussions for a long time. However it feels to us on the outside, they seem confident they will do the business they need and given as I say we've signed 4 players already 3 of which address the main issues we do indeed differ on our concerns about the approach here. I am assuming the people who have seen the process work first-hand have a learned reason for having a will to repeat it ultimately.

Scrolling through this before tonight's game & I see Jay had said out loud whether I had been thinking.

I don't see where a fit Cairney gets a game in our new pressing style as he has never been the most mobile even in his younger years.

We need to get in as many as we can for the window shuts but however many we get it is likely to be a few windows before we transition from the older profile preferred by Marco.

It's going to be a roller coaster & as always my first ask is survival in the Premiership.

I think the thing that is markedly more noticeable about the younger players we've brought in is that they are a lot more mobile and at ease technically with the ball at their feet. Garcia, palacios, Kevin, Charles are all examples.

When it comes to the likes of Reed, Cairney, Iwobi and Berge, it just feels like there's a generational difference in the way they've been trained growing up with the ball, as whilst all obviously top players professionally speaking, they're definitely not as comfortable on the ball it seems

Same, and their sales. Imagine believing that Delap fee is legitimate. Madness.
