He's become a bit of a journeyman like Patrick Roberts. Think both of them had bit too much ego and let their heads get to them too much which distracted them from achieving things with their careers. Elliot has more of his ahead, Roberts has settled somewhat at Championship level, but when they first broke onto the scene they seemed to have higher ceilings. Wonder what would've happened to both of them, and Carvalho for that matter, if they'd stayed at Fulham.. wonder if they ask themselves the same thing

Or they were never as good as hoped. Elliot could yet have a highly successful career but probably won't happen for Fabio, and hasn't for Roberts.

Whilst it's often said that time is a great healer, suspect that when he visits us again in February, it's going to come a bit too soon to avoid a further round of "direct feedback".

With getting in two CBs and having three at the club, do we sense a potential change to a back three in the offing with two wing backs further forward? Feels better suited to the players we'll have at the club.

Two CMs in front in Larsson and Charles looks promising with long term in mind, but both look like they've got quality to start too once they've settled in.

I might be wrong here but two things spring to mind:
AA has - to the extent of my knowledge- never played a back 3 in the classic way that Xabi Alonso uses one. And I dont count his use of a DM slotting into the backline as a back 3

Secondly, you'd think he would have tried the tactic out at least once during pre season?

Having spent almost 2 months implementing a tactic just to use a back 3, with all the implications that entails

I just think that this is typical us: we wait and wait and wait and then we will do 3 months worth of in/out transfers in 48 hours so we are forced to push players out (through loan)

Just found out Wilfried Zaha is a free agent, no idea how he's been playing lately

£8.5m doesn't fill me with confidence for a starting CB in the premier league

Sort of like Hangeland or Robinson for £2m each.

Hangeland was in 2010 and Robinson 2020 so I don't see any comparison with today's market.

Diop is a starting CB for Ipswich in 2026. We sold him for £8 million I believe so totally comparable with a CB we are allegedly signing for £8.5 million.

Hugo Larsson and Angel hopefully meaning Iwobi is now being seen as a LW again as we already have Berge and S.Charles and Palacios and Cairney.

Tete not being in the squad Sunday now seems to make no sense, as does selling Diop with no replacement, hoping im proved wrong on both of these by the end of the day but aint looking good.

RW looks like we're giving Zepa and Bobb till the end of the year to show there stuff, be great if one or both come good

I cant seem to grasp that either. Although the window hasnt closed just yet so we'll see what happens.

Right now our central midfield options are Charles, Berge, Cairney, Larsson, Angel, King, ESR and Reed. Iwobi and Palacios can play centrally but all points to them being used primarily as wingers. So 8 players for 3 positions is quite a lot, arguably 2 more than whats needed.

So wingers are Kevin, Bobb, Palacios, Iwobi and Zepa. Considering that Kevin doesnt seem to suit AAs style, this set up looks quite worrying if we cant get Bobb yo start producing the goods. I dont see either Iwobi or Zepa being able to influence the game in any real sense. Id say we should look to bring in a left footed RW and send Zepa out on loan.
