Quote from: Hatch007 on September 02, 2026, 03:24:46 PMAS report suggests the opposite is true of Devon's assertions regarding "no "bargains" and there was no competition for their signatures."

Affengruber had a €50m release clause earlier in the window and there was interest from other PL clubs as well as Italy.

Add to that, Larsson (who I presume falls into DevonFFC's "it's only crap left on the shelf") spoke to Arbeloa a month ago about the move. Yes it may have happened on the last day, but these things genuinely aren't as immediate as people make out.

It's now at the point where I am desperate for us to win a major trophy so we can stop using the now infuriating "oldest club in London" marketing strap line  ::angry::

I still feel gutted about Hamburg. I was there for it and will likely never get a chance to travel to a European final again.

I was upper tier in the corner, so I had a bird's-eye view of Forlan's miscue dribbling over the line, ending a heroic cup run.

It was at that moment that I realised there is no god.

If there was, it's pretty obvious he's never been to CC.
Could be something to do with the Toilets under the Hammy.

Quote from: McBrideOfFrankenstein on September 02, 2026, 01:53:35 PMImo Devon's post overall is too negative but he's absolutely right about the "oldest club in London" thing :slap:
Every player parrots it in his first interview. We have more selling points than that, surely? Location, aesthetics, and in my opinion highly underrated home support in the Hammy End.

Sidenote the club seriously does need to improve acoustics to let the HE be heard. Only once you've sat there do you realize how truly muzzled it is, not only on TV but also to the rest of the park. Can't they hire a team of sound scientists or something?

Very true.

Friend was at the Riverside Stand for the Wimbledon cup tie and said they could hardly hear the HE (as for the atmosphere and noise generated in the Riverside the less said the better !)

If they ever plan to revamp the Hammersmith and Putney Stands, Khans would do well to get some acoustics engineers on board 🔊

Larsson likely became a deadline day deal because the club had a large chunk of the transfer budget remaining after not securing their higher priced, higher rated CB. It was a smart pivot if true.

If 2 or 3 of the CM signings work out well the club can always sell Berge in the winter or summer window. They can then reinvest those profits elsewhere at GK, RB, CB, or RW.

The Athletic put together a ranking of all PL transfers from this summer (yes, it's terribly clickbaity). They have Garcia at #8 and I couldn't help but chuckle at this: "It is asking a lot for him to replace Raul Jimenez...". Look, I appreciate Raul's efforts and work ethic, but he had 5 non penalty goals last season and looked pretty much spent at the PL level. If Garcia can't even minimally exceed his production we're in trouble.

Fwiw, the comments from Elche fans make for encouraging reading of our new CB.

Easy. Mitro, Demps, Saha, Berbs and Cole.

Look, I'm terribly appreciative of what Raul gave us at the end of his career. Just saying that (in response to that Athletic ranking blurb) it shouldn't be "asking a lot" to replace a guy who was clearly nearing the end of his productive PL career and only managed 5 npg last season.

Don't know about 40 but from 2000 onwards: Mitro, Saha, Berbs, Andy Cole, probably even Zamora.

Zamora at his best was ahead for sure. He was unbelievable in that Europa league season.

Angus Telford

I mean Zamora is stretching it blimey, but anyway, most of those were well out of our reach in their prime, and if Garcia this year hits any of those levels aged 22/23 he will be a £100m player and we will be rubbing ourselves
