The punishment will be very severe. The Qataris will walk away from the club. This will be catastrophic for City. They will fall through the pyramid over the next few seasons I suspect.

Quote from: Fulham 1879 on September 25, 2026, 10:06:36 PMEverton deducted another six points after Man City round guilty of 114 charges. Premier League officials said it was vital to respond swiftly to the findings and send a clear message that financial irregularities will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

A Premier League spokesperson explained, "Obviously, punishing Manchester City is going to be incredibly complicated.

"They have extremely expensive lawyers, there will inevitably be extensive appeals, those appeals could lead to further appeals, and realistically we could spend several years working out whether we're actually allowed to take any points off them.

"Fortunately, we already have an established precedent for taking points off Everton whenever we feel like it, so we've done that instead."

Are you quoting Newsthump like it's a real, serious news organisation? It's a parody site.
I thought the satire was obvious and I even provided the link.

Fair enough, didn't know if you knew it was satire. It's hard to know through text.

Except that City are not owned or financed by Qatari money.

Quote from: ffc73 on September 26, 2026, 01:15:10 PMThe reports suggest that financial irregularities go beyond footballing rules so it will be interesting to see if HMRC get involved.

Or the National Crime Agency or Serious Fraud Office.

The football authorities (and government to an extent) have a huge job on their hands on not allowing this to spiral out of control and ruin the country's most treasured pastime and a huge asset for an otherwise beleaguered economy. Justice must be done and be seen to be done, but then everyone needs to move on and get on with the football. If it's allowed to sink into legal campaigns to award trophies to teams that came second etc and all manner of other things, we'll wake up and find the PL is on par with Serie A as another formerly leading European league.

Apologies, quite right. Not sure what put that in my head.

115 charges was widely quoted - what was the one of which they are innocent?
The world is made up of electrons, protons, neurons, possibly muons and, definitely, morons.

The punishment should be something like they have to pay back 200 points. They continue to earn points for wins and draws but every point they earn goes to pay off that debt. Means two guaranteed demotions and maybe more if they play poorly.

Obviously Nick wrote something that was positive towards City, but is there anyone else out there that has any sympathy and doesn't want the book thrown at them.

Our club have stayed religiously within the bounds of the financial restrictions, in doing so I believe we have suffered in the transfer business, so from me no, broken rules pay the price.
Story of my life

Sadly she wasn't

Hopefully they are thrown out and only two relegation places this season..

I have been thinking about this and maybe this is a question for Twig. Perhaps the teams that feel they were affected, which is a lot, premier league and championship teams, should create an alliance and hire lawyers to represent them as a whole. It may help to get some meaningful justice

WindyCity

Hard for me to imagine anything serious will come of this.  Hope it does, hope I'm wrong.  Haven't really kept up with all the details, have just read some bits and pieces.  It seems some are calling for City to be banished from the PL and placed three or four tiers below PL.  The charges are that serious and plentiful.  Possible nothing happens for several more years what with appeals and appeals and appeals.  Will be interesting to see how all plays out, but I'm not holding my breath for anything to happen soon.......

That's way out of my area of expertise, it sounds reasonable but only a specialist lawyer would be able to give a meaningful answer.

What I do know is that I have absolutely no sympathy whatsoever and like most on here (Nick excepted), I want to see them properly punished in full.

Agree the punishment should be severe but have grave feelings that at the end of the day it will be a complete whitewash and cop out for legal reasons.

Hopefully  City playing Woking soon

Ironic  Glazers taking too much money out of Utd

City owners putting too much money in

The punishment has to be severe enough to act as a deterrent to all clubs.

Anything else renders the financial rules not worth the paper they're written on.

There will be widespread outrage and condemnation from a multitude of clubs with the serious threat of major legal action against City if these charges are not harshly dealt with.

I said at the time, and again when we were up for sale, if my club had been bought by such a institution, I would struggle to enjoy games of my club. I would probably put my 'support' on stand by.

With that in mind, i don't feel so sorry for those supporters of old man city. If anything its a blessing that they'll be able to support an honest club again.
